00:00All right. So this is perfect because I want to go back. I want to rewind before the PGA Tour,
00:05before the DP World Tour, before the Challenge Tour.
00:07I want to go all the way back to 2014 where you're playing on a tour named after Sir Bob
00:12Charles, the only other man from New Zealand to win an Open Championship.
00:15Your win at the 2014 Miroi Open. I did a little research here. I'm told this is a Lynx course,
00:22wins up to 55 miles per hour.
00:24So how much of your brain, your heart, when you're out there playing in open conditions, is just you're back
00:30in Miroi or a place similar to that in Miroi playing Lynx Golf in New Zealand?
00:34And maybe give our audience a little bit of color on what it's like playing Miroi or other New Zealand
00:39Lynx courses, what that feels like.
00:41So I would say the closest – I haven't played Miroi in a few years, actually. I need to tell
00:47you another story about that event. I won that event in 2021.
00:50So we'll get to that just after this. But like Miroi is an amazing course on the water, a lot
00:56of fun to play.
00:57But it's like – it's a Lynx course with – at least when I was playing, it was like kakuya
01:02grass.
01:03So it would be like – it would look like a Lynx course. It would feel like a Lynx course.
01:08But then like every chip shot you hit, you could almost make come back because the ball would sit so
01:13good.
01:13Like it was – so the closest we've got is probably a golf course called Paraparumu Beach, which is down
01:20in Wellington.
01:20That place is amazing. Like that's a proper Lynx course.
01:23And like, you know, we don't have anything necessarily quite with the turf that you have in the UK.
01:31Like there's just something different about that Lynx turf.
01:33But we've got a lot of golf courses that have similar style at least.
01:37And then you're going into like – you've got Tare Edi, Tiare Lynx now that are proper Lynx courses.
01:44Like firm fescue, like play properly like a Lynx course.
01:48But yeah, like I've got really good memories of playing Miroi.
01:52Like playing in the wind, controlling your ball.
01:54Like I don't live too far away, like 35, 40 minutes from that place.
01:57So, you know, I haven't been out there much recently, but I played a lot growing up.
02:02But I've got a story.
02:04I'll tell it very quickly.
02:05From 2021, middle of COVID, New Zealand's still locked down.
02:09European tour, DP World Tour is like back to normal.
02:12So I've got to keep my card out there, right?
02:15And there's a couple of those Charles Tour events in New Zealand.
02:19One at a place called Golf Harbour, which now unfortunately is not a golf course.
02:22And then back-to-back weeks at Miroi.
02:25So I go play Golf Harbour.
02:26I win the week before, just trying to keep myself ready for DP World Tour when I go back.
02:31And I get a phone call from Steve Williams, who I obviously know really well.
02:35Steve goes, he goes, are you playing Miroi next week?
02:38I said, yeah.
02:39He goes, well, it's like 15 minutes from my house.
02:42Can I caddy for you?
02:45So I'm like, yeah, mate, that'd be great.
02:47But I'll give you, like, just to warn you, like, it'll be a carry bag.
02:50There's no yardage book, and, like, we can use rangefinders.
02:54And he's like, that sounds great.
02:56So I turn up on the first tee on Thursday for that event with Steve Williams on the bag.
03:04Wow.
03:04And just, like, walking around.
03:06And then, so I play with Daniel Hillier all four days that week.
03:10He's like the up-and-coming kid.
03:12Him and I were in the last group on Saturday and Sunday.
03:15Dan has a two-shot lead on me, one-shot lead on Sunday.
03:20And I go out and shoot.
03:21I think I shot 64 to win on Sunday, which is pretty awesome.
03:25And then we get, we finish up on the eighth green, like, Steve's real chaff.
03:29We're having a bit of fun out there.
03:30And he looks at me and he goes, does this count?
03:33I was like, I mean, I don't know.
03:35Like, it's four rounds.
03:36It's a strike play event.
03:37Like, I think it does.
03:38So he's like, okay, great.
03:40This is 151.
03:42So he's had 151 wins as a caddie.
03:44And he's got the flag from the Mirror Way Open when he caddied for me, which is pretty sweet.
03:48Yeah, it counts.
03:49It counts.
03:50Definitely does.
