00:00Like, what was the say to your game when you finish that round on Friday,
00:03you make the cut at even par?
00:04Like, you're kind of sweating out the cut line.
00:06I mean, winning the golf tournament probably isn't something
00:09you're necessarily considering, I would imagine.
00:12No, like, to be honest, after Thursday's round,
00:14I'm like, I've got work to do to make the cut.
00:16I shot two over.
00:17I actually played okay.
00:19You know, tee to green, I hit it pretty solid,
00:22and I putted awfully, which sounds strange
00:26because I didn't miss anything on the weekend at all.
00:29Like, I made everything I looked at with shaky hands
00:32and everything on Sunday.
00:34So, like, golf's strange like that, right?
00:36But I played really good on Friday.
00:39I was four under through 11.
00:40I, you know, really felt like I was going well,
00:44and I had a couple of bad shots coming down the stretch
00:46and, you know, finished it even.
00:48And kind of, I played the last hole the opposite on Friday
00:51as I did on Sunday.
00:53You know, I knew I had a couple to play with to make the cut.
00:56But, like, if I hit driver, it brought in all the trouble
01:00and it brought in a big number if I didn't pull it off.
01:03So, I kind of hit five iron, five iron,
01:05then missed the three-foot of a par on Friday afternoon
01:08to get in at even.
01:09I knew at least even was going to make the cut.
01:12I was more disappointed to bogey the last
01:14because the All Blacks were playing on Saturday morning.
01:17And I knew when I missed that putt
01:20that I wouldn't be able to watch the whole game.
01:22And so, I was, yeah, I was, I watched the first half
01:27before my warm-up and then was following the scores
01:29for my second half.
01:30And then, you know, you're not, you're even par,
01:33you're eight shots back or whatever it was going into the weekend.
01:36Like, I'm not thinking of winning the tournament.
01:38I'm thinking I've got the nice conditions on Saturday morning.
01:41You know, there has been scores in the mornings both days.
01:44If I go out and shoot a decent score,
01:46like, I've still got a chance of a really nice week.
01:49Like, up till last week, I'd never had, you know,
01:52a top 10 in a major.
01:54You know, so I was thinking if I can just, you know,
01:56try to sneak out and get a top 20 or something like that,
01:58have a good round, that'd be awesome.
02:01And then I didn't miss a shot on Saturday.
02:03Like, I played.
02:04I got it.
02:05I watched it, man.
02:06I was in the booth, Fox.
02:07And seeing just really the weather was, I think,
02:11the most interesting aspect of that Saturday morning.
02:13We saw sunny skies pretty much the whole week.
02:16But for whatever reason, that Saturday morning
02:18till about when you got to the 18th hole,
02:20it was overcast conditions.
02:21It was light and variable.
02:23You had a favorable pairing, too,
02:24as Andrew Shoffley, another guy who was running that day.
02:27You guys were feeding off each other.
02:29And I tell you, I don't know if you saw the shot on 18
02:31that I tried to replicate of yours from that Saturday round.
02:36You didn't see it quite yet?
02:38I saw the putt.
02:40Okay, we'll talk about the putt in a minute.
02:42But I got to ask you about that fairway bunker shot on 18.
02:45We know you used the XI seven irons.
02:48Did you use the eight iron out of that bunker?
02:50Is that right?
02:51Yeah.
02:51Yeah, I had it on.
02:53That's stupid, dude.
02:54I went in there and I'm like,
02:55I don't know how we got this to the front of the green.
02:57I was in between a six and a five iron.
03:00And I just like went open face and tried to just,
03:03just maybe just slice down on something
03:05and try to use the wind to get it there.
03:07That was an insane shot, dude.
03:09Yeah.
03:09Look, I mean, it was one of those,
03:11it kind of parallels with Sunday how I played 18.
03:14Like it was, I knew there was a little bit of history there to be had.
03:18You know, I hit the tee shot.
03:20I thought it was pretty close to staying in the fairway.
03:22Obviously ended up in the bunker.
03:23I kind of walking up,
03:24expect that I'm going to be hacking it out sideways
03:26or maybe wedging it down the fairway
03:28and trying to get up and down
03:29and get a piece of that major record.
03:32And then I see it's on the upslope.
03:33And I was like, I looked at it.
03:35I'm like, I think I can get this.
03:37And I was like, so I asked my caddy, Dean,
03:41and I was like, what do we got?
03:43And he goes, we got 150 front.
03:45This is meters, by the way, sorry.
03:46We still work in meters.
03:49We got 150 front.
03:50I was like, what's it over that like front left bunker?
03:53And he goes, it's 160, I think, from memory.
03:56And I was like, I think I can get eight iron over this.
03:59Like I just got to hit it real hard.
04:00And I was like, in my head, I was like,
04:03I'm happy to take this on.
04:04Like if I lay it up and I make bogey,
04:0863 is a great round,
04:09but there's going to be a little bit of what if there as well.
04:11Like I thought I could do it.
04:13Like I should have taken it on.
04:14If I make double, it was kind of like,
04:16if I make double taking it on, well, you know, so be it.
04:21And I hit it and I heard the sound.
04:24Like it clips something, it hit grass.
04:26And that's that little photo of me going like that.
04:28Like I don't know if it hit like a blade of grass
04:32and made a big sound or like caught a little bit of the lip
04:34or whatever, like there was something there.
04:37But then I look up and the ball's still going.
04:39And I'm like, damn, that's pretty good.
