00:00So, I think as we kind of do on these major championship recaps,
00:04we kind of work through the story of the day from your perspective.
00:06And so, I think we've got to begin with Cam Young teeing off
00:10at just five minutes past noon local time,
00:13two hours and 15 minutes before the leaders, goes out in 29.
00:17You're originally with the Siwoo Kim and Ryan Gerrard group,
00:20but you get pulled over to follow Cam, take him in as he's moving up the leaderboard.
00:25I actually never even teed off Siwoo and Gerrard.
00:28I went straight away to Cam.
00:31Yeah, so he makes birdie at the par 5, 17th, gets to 10 under,
00:35finds a fair, that tee shot in 18, finds a fairway bunker there.
00:39He says in his press conference after he tried to open up a six iron wide open
00:43to hit it out of there, tries to take it on, ricochets off the lip to the right.
00:47His third finds a greenside bunker, almost holes out that bunker shot
00:51for an unbelievable par, but ends up making the first bogey of the day
00:55for a 64 and post nine under a little after 4 p.m. local.
00:59So starting there, like talk to us about what it was like taking him in.
01:03And then at that point, do you think there's any chance in your mind
01:05that nine under is going to hold up as a winning score?
01:08I did not.
01:09I did not think nine under was going to hold,
01:11but it didn't take long for me to think that he might just win this thing outright.
01:16It only took probably about 30, 40 minutes because Siwoo Kim was at 10 under par.
01:21You didn't know if the tournament was in his hands at the time.
01:24You felt like the leaders, especially Sam Burns at Fox,
01:27felt like they were going to make birdies at the par fives.
01:29There's still plenty of other guys in the mix when Cam Young finishes round,
01:32but it was probably the most difficult day of the week.
01:36And it was mainly because of the wind conditions.
01:39I felt like the wind was a little stronger and more consistent.
01:43And just think about it, too.
01:44The golf course received four days of similar dry conditions, windy.
01:50So by the end of the week, you'd have to expect that at some point,
01:54the golf course is going to just remain tougher.
01:57And if you get some tough hole locations, and especially on the back nine,
02:00they kept on putting hole locations on the short side of where the wind is, right?
02:05So think about the right hole location at 11.
02:09You think about the right hole location at the 14th,
02:12the right hole location at the 16th.
02:14These were really, really difficult golf shots, especially to try to hold.
02:20People don't understand how difficult it is to hold a 15-mile-an-hour breeze
02:25at the Open Championship.
02:26It is a – to make the ball fly straight, it's a 10 to 12-yard fade in normal conditions.
02:32To make the ball actually curve to the right, you probably need to fade it about 18 to 20 yards.
02:38And when you do that, you add spin.
02:40So what happens there is that you lose distance.
02:43So a 150-yard shot, like, for instance, I'll give you examples.
02:47Siwoo Kim at 16 had that number.
02:49And try to just fade a 7-iron at 150.
02:53It still came up short.
02:55It's just what guys are not accustomed to with how heavy the wind is here.
02:59And that's why I think the scores were so high because of all the crosswinds
03:03that they had out in this Northwest wind throughout the entire week.
03:07Very few holes ran up and back as far as the wind goes with the compass.
03:11So it just made it really challenging for guys to really hit it close.
03:16Now, we saw plenty of it on the front nine,
03:17but the back nine seemed to be the more difficult one to find birdies coming home.
