00:00In a statement to the media on the fatal shooting outside of a preschool in Malik on Wednesday,
00:06Opposition leader Kamala Prasad v. SSS, her party, the United National Congress, vehemently
00:11condemns these atrocious acts of violence.
00:14Speaking with TV6 News via telephone, the opposition leader reiterated her party's appeal
00:19for Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley to remove Fitzgerald Hines as Minister of National Security
00:25and for the Prime Minister to personally take the helm of the National Security Ministry.
00:56When Prime Minister Rowley announced the appointment of Port of Spain MP Keith Scotland as Minister
01:03in the Ministry of National Security to particularly deal with police issues on July 25th, he expressed
01:10his confidence in Minister Hines continuing to lead the National Security Ministry.
01:26As we try to do more and so much trouble is coming to us from the police, I want to put
01:36it that way.
01:38We decided that, as Prime Minister, it's my prerogative to make that decision.
01:43That the Minister was being distracted by too many other things when we wanted more
01:50focusing on the police at this particular point in time.
01:54The Prime Minister continues to show his confidence in National Security Minister Hines.
02:00Opposition leader Prasad Besese said in her statement to the media on Wednesday that there
02:03is wanton lawlessness and gang violence because of government's incompetence in dealing with
02:08this problem.
02:09TV6 News is reporting that gang violence claimed the life of two men and left a child and two
02:15adults injured in front of a child care centre on Wednesday morning.
02:20The opposition leader expressed her concern for the child who was injured and all of the
02:25children at the pre-school.
02:26Yes, I think it is most important that they are given counselling, that's the most shocking
02:32thing for any individual, far less for children.
02:34So I think they should be given immediate counselling, should be afforded to all the
02:39students, not just the ones directly affected but all the students who were there to have
02:45witnessed and heard what transpired on that day.
02:49The opposition leader says Trinidad and Tobago has descended into a danger zone and declared
02:53terror pervades the nation and blames what she calls the negligence of the government.
02:58I am the only politician who has gone to Mova Lavender to listen to the concerns of people
03:03there and to the residents of Mova, I say to them, keep strong, help is coming after
03:09the next general election.
03:12The next general election is due next year, 2025.
