The appointment of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of Police was mentioned during a debate in the Parliament on Monday night and at an Opposition party meeting on Tuesday night.

00:00During the opposition UNC's pavement report meeting in Oropuch East on
00:04Tuesday night, the constituency's MP Dr. Rudal Munilal referred to a statement
00:09made by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley in the House of Representatives before
00:14it approved the three-month extension of the state of emergency in Trinidad and
00:19Tobago via the government's majority on Monday night. The Prime Minister said it
00:24has come to his attention police officers quote in some districts at
00:28night are so afraid of the criminals that they close the police station door
00:33turn off the lights and be inside there hoping that the criminals don't come at
00:39them end quote.
00:59Those in charge of the government have consistently dismissed the opposition's
01:03claim that it has collapsed and in the lower house on Monday night the Prime
01:07Minister had a message for the opposition.
01:28The Prime Minister declared if the opposition is saying that they are
01:50dissatisfied with the performance of the current police commissioner quote the
01:54government cannot jump in and rectify that end quote.
02:24The Privy Council had ruled that there was nothing unlawful or
02:34unconstitutional about the decision taken by the president on the advice of
02:39cabinet in 2023 to extend the service of the police commissioner by one year.
02:43Because an officer is there on a year's extension a retired officer in logic
02:50house that would mean that while that year is going on the Commission is
02:54searching for no no no it is only when a vacancy occur and of course when the
03:00vacancy occur we have no commissioner so we extend the community commissioner
03:05who is there again. This is a madhouse.
03:07In response to one opposition MPs reference in the lower house to the
03:12process in Chicago the Prime Minister said that is comparing apples with
