00:00Shogunist East MP Vandana Mohit raised the concerns about the number of suicides in Trinidad
00:05and Tobago during the opposition UNC's media conference on Sunday.
00:09In doing so, she read from a statement posted by opposition leader Kamala Prasad Bissessa
00:14on Facebook about the suicide committed last week by teenager Jayden Lalchand.
00:20And the opposition leader said, there are reports that Jayden suffered tremendously
00:26over an extended period of abuse and bullying.
00:31If these allegations are proven to be true, justice must be served on all who terrorized
00:39this beautiful child and all who turned a blind eye to his suffering.
00:45I will ensure that a heavy price will be paid by all those involved in tormenting and terrorizing
00:54this child into taking his own life.
00:58May he finally find peace in the arms of God.
01:02There you have it from the opposition leader.
01:05MP Mohit spoke of the opposition's response on Sunday and previous concerns it raised
01:11about the suicide problem.
01:13And we will join her in ensuring that justice is served for Jayden Lalchand.
01:19I understand that MP Barry Parra is on his way to the family this morning.
01:26And this speaks to us in the continued fight against school violence, school bullying and
01:36suicides in our nation.
01:38On May 13, 2024, we the opposition would have brought a matter on the adjournment on rising
01:45suicide in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:48Members of the government bench giggled.
01:51Jayden Lalchand's mother told the Express newspaper he was the subject of bullying at
01:56his school.
