00:00So let me, let me go back to the all-star game with you, Bobby, 27 strikeouts.
00:05I didn't watch it. I don't know anything about that.
00:08Okay. Well, you, okay. So wait a minute.
00:11It's something that you loved your entire life.
00:13You're not watching the all-star game.
00:16So you've lost interest in the all-star game.
00:19Yeah, of course. I see those guys play every day, you know,
00:23you know, if I want to see them on TV to watch in an exhibition,
00:29that's not my cup of tea. I have other things that I'd rather do.
00:33So yeah, all-star game in baseball, you know, if they,
00:37if they paid the players a lot of money, if they won,
00:40then there might be an incentive. The idea of, you know,
00:43home field advantage in a world series, that's ridiculous.
00:47When it was pride and, you know, it meant a lot, you know,
00:52win or lose American league, national league,
00:54when there was such a thing as an American league and a national league.
00:58I thought that was a fun situation, but, you know, just the, you know,
01:04guys throwing fast and swinging hard, again, isn't my cup of tea.
01:09What was the, you know, when I grew up, I mean,
01:13Parker and Wright throwing downing out at the plate,
01:16Reggie off the light tower.
01:18These were things that I grew up with Bobby that were signature things that I
01:22grew up because I waited for that all-star game.
01:25When did baseball lose that, that,
01:28that signature moment for that event in your opinion,
01:32was it interleague play that hurt that game so much?
01:35So that that game, like you just said, Hey,
01:38I'd rather watch the Dodgers maybe a couple of weeks from now,
01:41what happened to that all-star game? Is it because of interleague play?
01:46Uh, possibly, probably. Yeah. Um, uh, I, I don't know what lost it,
01:51you know, in 2001, I managed it in, in Seattle. Uh,
01:55it was a big thrill managing all-star game when I got there and I saw the,
01:59the lack of, uh, uh, competition of, uh, of, you know,
02:04the win factor had nothing to do with anything. And, uh, it,
02:09it was disappointing to me to tell you the truth. And, uh, you know, they,
02:13they, they, these games, um, need a fix somehow if you,
02:17if you want true competition, but it's hard to ask these guys to,
02:21to, you know, ante up and rev it on up just to,
02:25to play a game that's in some city.
02:28And instead of having off days, you're traveling.
02:31Instead of being with your family, uh, and relaxing, you're playing. Um, uh,
02:36it's, it's a different world these days.
02:38Boy, I'll tell you what,
02:39I never thought I'd hear Bobby Valentine say,
02:41I have no interest in the all-star game. All right.
