00:00Now, subtropical storm Josephine, meanwhile we do have an area of concern well south of Bermuda and then way to
00:06the east as well on the horizon.
00:08It could become a tropical setup here.
00:11Meanwhile, in the east Pacific, the moisture streaming in is off to the north.
00:15We've got a tropical storm named Vance off to the south of the area of Mexico.
00:20But here's Josephine, and Josephine's drifting north at 6 miles per hour.
00:23Max sustained winds 65 miles per hour, so we went from a nor'easter to a subtropical storm.
00:30What was once part of the storm has now fractured off to the east.
00:34This was really closely tied to the fronts that were driving the organization of the nor'easter.
00:40Now this big chunk of clouds off to the east, well removed from the center of the storm,
00:44and this area of low pressure has been spinning over the relatively warm water long enough that it is a
00:49subtropical storm.
00:50So, max sustained winds again 65 miles per hour, drifting north at 6 miles per hour.
00:55Way, way offshore, we have winds producing waves that are 18, 19 feet.
01:01And then closer to the shore, we have 6 to 10 footers out there.
01:05Big waves, storms going to race to the northeast, and it will become a cold course storm in about a
01:11day.
01:11So it's only about a 24-hour window when this is a true subtropical storm.
01:16Subtropical storms have been named for about 25 years.
01:18We certainly do name more storms now than we would have with the old rulebook 40 or 50 years ago.
01:23But Josephine is on the map.
01:25And watch the wind field expand as this becomes a cold course storm.
01:30Again, a larger wind field.
01:31St. John's, Newfoundland, we can see gusts of 60-plus miles per hour there when it exits the east coast.
01:36Now, for the most part, we're forecasting 40 to 60-mile-per-hour gusts for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and
01:42Labrador.
01:44Rainfall, eastern part of Nova Scotia, 2 to 4 inches of rain.
01:48It's going to be a fast mover.
01:49That will mitigate some of the worst of the flooding.
01:50They can handle this there in the Canadian Maritimes, an area that faces some of the fiercest storms of the
01:56western hemisphere when it comes to wind, rain, and sometimes snow.
01:59This is going to be a rainmaker there.
02:01All right, now down into the area around the mid-Atlantic coast.
02:03We still have coastal flooding.
02:04The winds have been shoving that seawater into the Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware Bay.
02:09The back bays are dealing with high water as well.
02:11It's been cumulative, and there's been, what, four days of this so far since the weekend.
02:15Now five days, and we have about a two-foot surplus in water levels for high tides and low tides.
02:21So the offshore storm, Josephine, is going to stay offshore for the most part.
02:25The only exception will be New England.
02:26A little bit of a blitz of some rain there for Newfoundland and Labrador eventually.
02:33But even in the U.S. side, we have places like Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket.
02:38Just a little bit of rain, a small fraction of an inch tonight, and that'll be about it.
02:42Great weather for the interior.
