00:0050 games plus now, George, are you a fan of the ABS?
00:06Yes.
00:07Yes, I am.
00:08I've been a proponent of robot umpires for a long time here now.
00:13I wish they would have to expand it.
00:15On Long Island here, we go to Long Island Duck Games,
00:17and they have the ABS.
00:19Every call is automatic.
00:21You don't even notice it.
00:22The umpires were a little pierced like this, pitch, strike.
00:26Well, it's just you don't notice it.
00:29And we get the – it's not what's getting the calls right.
00:31I understand they're not going to be perfect with the umpires, with the robots.
00:34I get that.
00:35But it's the same for everybody.
00:37The strike zone is not changing inning to inning, batter to batter, all right?
00:41Because there's a Hall of Famer on the mound doesn't mean he gets a 24-inch strike zone.
00:44Well, because, you know, Aaron Judge is at the plate.
00:47He doesn't get a smaller zone.
00:48You know, everyone gets the same zone here.
00:50The calls are more uniform here.
00:52So, yes, I am a big fan of the ABS.
00:55I'd like to see them expand it, Dan.
00:57So, this week, they started the negotiations on Thursday between the union and Rob Manfred in Major League Baseball and
01:05the owners.
01:06You know, first thing that was brought up, obviously, was a salary cap.
01:09They were talking of implementing one in a floor of $171-plus million.
01:15I said this, George, and you tell me if you agree or disagree.
01:18You know, the reason the salary cap in the NFL works is because the contracts are not guaranteed.
01:22If you get into a position where you've got a Bo Bichette contract and the guy's not hitting his body
01:28weight, I mean, you're stuck with that contract.
01:31I mean, how do you think Major League Baseball gets around this?
01:34And, by the way, the union is saying absolutely no way are they going to go with a salary cap.
01:40Is there going to be a work stop, did you think, in December?
01:44Oh, yeah.
01:45Oh, yeah.
01:45Oh, yeah.
01:46In December, 100%, all right?
01:48The question is how many games are we going to miss next year, all right?
01:51That's going to be the question here.
01:53If I had to guess, we're going to miss games.
01:55There's no way.
01:56Let's just say the season's going to start on March 28th.
01:58There's no way the season's starting on March 28th.
02:01Could it start in April?
02:02Possibly.
02:03May?
02:04Possibly.
02:04You know, that's really where the question remains here.
02:07The owners, this is the first time in 32 years since 1994 that they're asking for a cap, all right?
02:11So, it's going to be a problem.
02:13The players have been steadfast against the cap forever, going back to Marvin Miller, all right, and Donald Feer and
02:18all that.
02:18So, it's going to be very difficult to get that.
02:21Certainly, if they do get somewhat of a cap, it won't be what we've heard.
02:24Max 245, minimum 171.
02:27That's not happening.
02:28It'll probably be somewhere around $800 million to throw the 240, like the 345.
02:32And the 171 will be lower to around a 120.
02:35I just did the math the other day on this.
02:37Let's just say it was 245 or 171.
02:40The teams that underspend would need to spend about $800 more million to get up there.
02:45Yeah, good luck with that.
02:46Go get those owners to agree to spend that.
02:48And the teams that are over the cap would need to lose about $250 million.
02:51That's the Dodgers, Yankees.
02:53There's only six teams that are over, and a couple of them are just barely over.
02:56Dodgers and Mets lead that.
02:57So, it's not going to be the way it was.
02:59Will the system change?
03:00Yeah, it's going to change.
03:02Do I think it needs to change?
03:04Probably.
03:05A hard cap?
03:06No.
03:06I think there'll be some kind of soft cap, Dan.
03:09I think it's what they'll eventually agree to, some kind of soft cap.
03:12But it's going to be a mess.
03:13So, to answer your question, I would be floored.
03:17I hope so.
03:17I want – you know, I love baseball.
03:19I want games to start on time next year.
03:21I have a funny feeling when I'm playing – I would give the over-under around May 15th.
03:26I love it.
03:26I love it.
03:26You
