01:00It's time for qualifying ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2026.
01:04A race that hasn't been won from pole for the last five Grand Prix around the Hungaro ring.
01:09But don't be fooled. Qualifying is so, so crucial here.
01:12In the previous 40 races around this 2.7 mile circuit, only four have been won from outside the top
01:19four.
01:19And it's going to be really, really competitive too.
01:22Because the last four pole positions here have been decided by a combined time that doesn't even get to a
01:29tenth of a second.
01:30So it's going to come out you're thick and fast today around these 14 corners.
01:34Six to the left and eight to the right.
01:36You've got nine megajoules of energy and plenty of braking and corners to get your batteries topped up to the
01:42max.
01:43Softest tyres in the Pirelli range, C5, C4 and C3.
01:47And the tyres are really hanging on for a dear life by the end of a lap.
01:52And so far this weekend, well, we've had Charles Leclerc, fastest in free practice one.
01:56Lewis Hamilton, fastest in free practice two.
01:59Lando Norris, fastest in free practice three.
02:02Three different drivers, three sessions, topping the timing charts.
02:05And this time last year, we had a surprise pole as well.
02:08So, Martin, up for grabs today, I think.
02:10Very much so.
02:11All we could think about yesterday was how fast Ferrari were.
02:14And suddenly, McLaren turned up to the show today.
02:18Kimi Antonelli had to miss free practice one yesterday because you have to let rookies in your car.
02:22Twice per year.
02:24Seems odd when he's still a 19-year-old himself.
02:26But he took a little while to get up to speed.
02:29He certainly did that again in free practice three earlier today.
02:33So, you're absolutely right.
02:34It's going to be incredibly close between McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes.
02:39And we still can't count out Red Bull either.
02:42And as you can see from the flags that were fluttering at the back of the grandstands,
02:46wind has picked up a little bit.
02:47It's gusting around and it's swirling around as well.
02:50And it's something of a tailwind going into Turn 1 where we look from at the moment.
02:55You can see a few flags being waved by the fans here.
02:59But it is a bit swirly.
03:01And that's not good for the drivers as we found out yesterday afternoon.
03:03No, and they were breaking into a headwind down the pit straight yesterday, which was helping them at that point.
03:10But certainly phases of yesterday anyway.
03:12But they've managed to get rid of a few of the bumps overnight down there.
03:17The last one of Turn 14 has been playing up as well in terms of the surface.
03:22And I'm sure the teams will have tuned their car, tuned their suspension, ride heights and other aspects to try
03:29to help the drivers not keep just locking up the front axle, burning out those front tires down into Turn
03:341.
03:35But it is downhill.
03:36It's a critical braking zone.
03:38You can't afford, if you break two or three metres too early, you must go home.
03:41You can't afford to leave any time on the table down there.
03:44And so it has been a challenge.
03:48But inevitably, they'll find a way through.
03:50Last year's pole sitter, Charles Leclerc.
03:52In fact, his last pole in Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton's last pole in Formula 1, came in 2023 at this
03:59very track, a track where he's been on pole nine previous times.
04:04Could he become today the first driver ever to get ten pole positions at a single circuit?
04:11The record is there to be broken.
04:13He already holds it here at the Hungaro Ring.
04:15He could also have the outright record for the most front row starts at a single circuit.
04:20If he can manage one more, it will be his 12th here.
04:23George Russell knows what it's like to be on pole here in Budapest because he did it in 2022.
04:27But he has been lagging somewhat behind his teammates so far this weekend.
04:32Right.
04:33As we look into the visor of Lando Norris, waiting patiently in the garage, 30 seconds to go to the
04:39green light.
04:40Ted Kravitz is ready for us down in the pit lane.
04:43Come on, everybody.
04:44The cars are about to come out.
04:45Where are they, Crofty?
04:47We've had this at the beginning.
04:48They are waiting.
04:49I mean, normally, it's funny the way you get to some circuits and they're queuing up at the end of
04:53the pit lane.
04:53Yes, I hear the growl of a Mercedes engine in the back of Carlos Sainz's Williams.
04:59But he might be thinking as he trundles past me in the pit lane, where is everybody?
05:02I think he's got a Cadillac for company at the end.
05:05But Sainz and Alex Albon have really been compromised in their preparations so far.
05:11So Williams will do well to get out of this Q1 session.
05:15And OK, they did manage it.
05:17Well, at least looked like they were going to be having enough on Friday.
05:22But today they've been pretty slow.
05:24I think they were the last two to finish in the timesheets in free practice three, weren't they, Crofty?
05:29Ahead of Sergio Perez, who had problems with his brakes.
05:33They are now fixed in the Cadillac.
05:35And now we have Lance Stroll and the Aston Martins are ready to go as well.
05:40And Fernando Alonso for Q2.
05:42Yes, I'm going to say, I'm going to call it now, I'm going to say it's going to happen.
05:47The only reason Lance Stroll might not make it is because he's had much less track time this weekend.
05:50Yes, he has, with a suspension failure on Friday afternoon.
05:54That's the big question from this Q1 session, Martin.
05:58Can Aston Martin get out of that bottom six?
06:01I agree with you, Ted.
06:02There's a half a chance.
06:03You can see how dusty the track is, just the amount of dust they're picking up,
06:07trending down the pit lane.
06:08And it's a natural bowl here, which makes it great viewing.
06:12A bit like Brands Hatch.
06:13Great viewing where you can see a lot of the track from one position in the grandstands
06:18or wherever you happen to be.
06:21And it is also then, with a lot of movement, can be very dusty.
06:25Dust settles, it's windy, as we pointed out.
06:28So there's been a Formula 2 sprint race since they were last out
06:32and a poor Super Cup practice or qualifying.
06:34So the track will feel significantly different in the early phases.
06:40So Aston Martin haven't got beyond Q1 in 2026.
06:45In fact, they've been the two slowest qualifiers of the last five consecutive Grand Prix.
06:50But they come here with a significant upgrade.
06:52It's a B-Spec car.
06:53There's 16 different areas of the car that have been upgraded.
06:57And it's shared about 20 kilos of weight, too.
07:00As for Williams, they haven't had a top ten start here since 2016.
07:05They haven't reached Q3 this season.
07:07And they could be under threat from the team in green.
07:11So let's go through this lap with Carlos Sainz,
07:14former podium finisher, of course, here at the Hungaro Ring.
07:18But he's in a very different car this year than he was for Ferrari.
07:21Yeah, this is a tremendous corner turn for turning blind.
07:25And he's already then lost that lap, of course, with track limits.
07:28He damaged the underneath of his car.
07:30Look at the rubbish he's picked up on his tyres, his front tyres as well.
07:34That's all the discarded rubber out there in no man's land from the Formula 2 race.
07:39That'll take a few corners to clean up.
07:42Carlos went wide there, right at the end of Free Practice 3 this morning.
07:45He said, I think I've damaged the underneath of the car.
07:47So that is not his favourite turn at Turn 4 so far today.
07:53Alex Albon becoming the first driver to make 100 career Grand Prix starts.
07:57Ford Williams at this weekend hasn't scored a point in Budapest since 2020 with dearly love.
08:03Somewhere near the top ten here this weekend.
08:06And he's hanging on for dear life there at the bottom of the hill into Turn 12.
08:11It was really tiptoe, wasn't it?
08:12And he turned the steering wheel in the back end of the car, just didn't have enough grip.
08:16And into the final corner.
08:18They've also been struggling on the way in.
08:19The surface is breaking up a bit towards the inside.
08:22But they look like they've fixed that.
08:24Stay left, shortest run to the line.
08:26It's a 21.5.
08:27And we're looking at times much, much faster than that today.
08:31Well, already Lance Stroll goes seven tenths faster than Alex Albon.
08:35And Stroll's teammate, Fernando Alonso, is going quicker still through the first two sectors.
08:40And a 120.6 from him in the Aston Martin.
08:44Now, we mentioned tailwind down into Turn 1.
08:47We saw Carlos Sainz going off at Turn 4.
08:50There's a tailwind there as well.
08:52And it's reportedly about a 10 kilometre an hour tailwind through Turn 4.
08:57It's a slightly higher elevation there than it is at Turn 1.
08:59But it's not what the drivers are going to be looking for.
09:02Medium tyres on Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari.
09:05Yeah, meanwhile, when you're connected to the ground, does it matter?
09:08Well, it does matter because your aerodynamics are helped reasonably dramatically into a headwind.
09:15And similarly, very much hurt when there's a tailwind.
09:18You've got less downfall, less air going over your car.
09:21So this is Ferrari keeping a set of softs for later in qualifying.
09:25Or a set of soft tyres maybe for the race tomorrow.
09:29By running mediums now, they think that they've got enough pace on these medium tyres to clear the bottom six.
09:35Because that's what you need to do to get through into Q2.
09:38It's not about the fastest time necessarily at this stage of the weekend.
09:42So it's a gamble we've seen teams take before.
09:45But on the surface, on paper, it should be a gamble that Ferrari are more than capable of.
09:50Sergio Perez has a time on the board.
09:52He's currently slower than his teammate Valtteri Bottas.
09:55Perez leads that Cadillac head-to-head.
09:576-4 so far this season.
09:59We haven't seen the McLaren strategy on tyres yet because they haven't gone out of the pits.
10:03But Mercedes are out there, both of them, on soft tyres.
10:07Right, so Ferrari doing something very different to Mercedes.
10:11Hamilton crosses the line and it is the quickest time so far of a 1.18.7.
10:16So let's see how quick that is compared to the rest.
10:20And while the Aston Martin's lapping in the mid-1.20s, this probably is a very good move by Ferrari.
10:27And if it's not a good move, they can come out in about eight minutes, nine minutes' time.
10:31Martin, on a set of softs and there's probably no harm done as long as they can put a lap
10:35in.
10:35Yeah, you're right, they pretty much cleared the bar within 1.18.
10:39We saw a 17.9 this morning, but as I explained, the track will not be anywhere near as good
10:45a condition
10:46for a little while as it was this morning.
10:49Right, take us through this.
10:50The man who leads the World Championship at the age of 19, Kimi Antonelli on his first flying lap.
10:57Yep, breaking down the left-hand side.
10:59Track still falling away from you.
11:01Leclerc's had his lap time deleted, so he'll disappear from that spot in a minute.
11:07And that's somewhat changed the face of that for Ferrari, hasn't it?
11:11It was his 1.18.878.
11:13It was.
11:15Yes, there he's gone now.
11:16So back to Antonelli.
11:18And that doesn't look flat out at all.
11:20It's not flat out at all.
11:21So has he had an issue somehow?
11:24Now, he did a couple of preparation laps before a flying lap in practice.
11:30Fred Vesti, who drove his car in FP1, was explaining how you need to get the internals of the tyre
11:36up to its working window,
11:38not the surface of the tyre.
11:39You need to be building it up gradually, and it's that thermal heat that you want, not the surface heat.
11:45And the Mercedes maybe takes a couple more laps to do that.
11:48Verstappen's on the flyer, though.
11:50Here we go.
11:51This lovely little chicane.
11:52You take a bit of kerb, skip and a jump.
11:55Use the concrete on the outside.
11:57Super fast.
11:58This right-hander tightens on the exit.
12:00Just pinches a little bit there.
12:02Absolutely.
12:03Harry flatters through the left.
12:05It has to lift off a little bit, but not really downshift.
12:08Big braking zone downhill now.
12:11Keep pulling the shifts right into the apex.
12:14Pick up the throttle.
12:15Sweep to the right-hand side.
12:16Now, there's a lot of grip on the inside of that corner.
12:20Open the steering wheel.
12:21Use a bit of the pit lane in to cheat, get the car straight, help your traction.
12:26A lot of understeer carrying him slightly wide through the final corner, but still goes fast as it is on
12:34the soft compound tyre, of course.
12:36Yeah, there should be a decent gap between the soft and the medium.
12:39There isn't between the soft and the medium when you're comparing Ferrari to Red Bull.
12:44That's not the best times that you would have expected.
12:48Now, what's happened to Lando Norris here?
12:50He's letting the car through, I believe.
12:53Antonelli's gone very, very fast in the first sector.
12:56So he's on a flyer then?
12:58Yeah, he's now on his flyer.
13:00In fact, Norris was letting Antonelli through so as not to get a penalty for impeding the speed he's carrying
13:07through there.
13:08Look at the way, the direction, Jay.
13:09You can just see the roll in the chassis and the tyres tucking under a little bit there.
13:15But that Mercedes looks beautifully balanced, really does.
13:19Down into turn 12.
13:21And he can just throw it in the front sticks.
13:24We'll see what he looks like in the last corner compared to Max Verstappen's car on the same tyres.
13:30A little touch wide through there, but flicks across.
13:33And Max had a lot of understeer here.
13:35Antonelli looks like he's got more command of the front axle of that Mercedes.
13:40Hopefully he stayed within track limits, but he's lost time in the final sector.
13:45He got a bit wide, didn't he, in a couple of corners?
13:47On this evidence, Martin, those medium tyres seem like a decent set of boots to put on, to be honest,
13:54because both Verstappen and Antonelli, no more than seven hundredths of a second clear of Lewis Hamilton.
13:59George Russell is, unless he's got a great final sector up his sleeve,
14:04and that didn't look brilliant through the final corner,
14:06yeah, he's not going to be anywhere near the top three.
14:08He's not fifth fastest only for George Russell.
14:11So Leclerc went again, and he's popped it into sixth place, as you can see,
14:15with a 1.19.3, which is probably kind of okay in Q1.
14:20We'll see what the cut-off zone is.
14:23Oscar Piastri, fraction out side of the time he needs for the first two sectors.
14:28Lando Norris quicker by a couple of tenths through the first part of the lap,
14:33actually four tenths in the first part of the lap.
14:35Piastri, though, to the final corner.
14:37We'll be hoping he's kept some grip alive in those tyres, but that, that was a lot of drifting entering
14:43the final turn,
14:44and he goes fifth fastest ahead of Russell, but a long way on this track,
14:48behind the likes of Hadjar and Hamilton, Antonelli and Verstappen.
14:51Lindblad goes P8 for racing balls.
14:54He lost a lot of time with an engine change, and FP3 only got out with five minutes to go.
14:59Liam Lawson goes ahead of him by a couple of tenths,
15:02and on board, then, with Lando Norris hustling his car and seemingly very happy to do so through the final
15:09turn,
15:09goes fastest by four tenths of a second.
15:13Yeah, as a professional driver, you learn to know what you have to sort out
15:17and what you can just let go with the car.
15:19Yeah, it does that, it does that.
15:21I'm OK.
15:22That from Piastri was one of those, sort this out now, because it was really,
15:27back end of the car stepped out, because the rear tyres are crying with,
15:31because they're overheating, and Norris had to jockey his through there as well,
15:36right through the final corner, as you get to the end of the lap.
15:39But the Aston, they're really close to the inside there of the Apex.
15:43Has this helped Alonso?
15:44It has indeed.
15:46Gabriel Bortoleto will tumble down the order and into the bottom six.
15:49He's had his lap time deleted.
15:51Lance Stroll gets out of that bottom six, but still a little bit.
15:56Four tenths behind his teammate, who's in P12.
16:00On board now with Valtteri Bottas, half a second down through the first two sectors.
16:06It seems this year, Martin, with that reduction in downforce,
16:10with a grip that isn't there, it's a track for the hustlers, this one, isn't it?
16:13If you want it on rails, this ain't the place for you.
16:16No, they've got a lot less downforce,
16:18so we're lapping about three seconds slower than last year,
16:21but that's because we took a lot of grip out of the cars as well.
16:24They're narrower as well, and slightly smaller tyres,
16:27so no great surprises there.
16:29What they're not short of around here is any kind of electrical deployment.
16:33It's very easy to fill the battery, unlike Silverstone, unlike Spa.
16:38And so we don't have any of that talk to worry about.
16:42What it probably means is there'll be less overtaking as well.
16:44Let's hope that's not the case, but the logic is absolutely spot-on.
16:50P20 for Valtteri Bottas, where he's started four times already
16:54during the course of this season,
16:56and their confirmation of Gabriel Bortoleto getting a lap time deleted
17:00four track limits, so that throws a spanner or three into the plan for Audi,
17:06and it was at turn four where he's gone off the track.
17:09And you don't need a replay, really, to sort that one out.
17:13That's a long way off.
17:16In fact, he's gone far enough to not scrape the plank too much as well.
17:21Gabriel Bortoleto on his way back to the pits,
17:23exceeding track limits, as did Pierre Gasly,
17:26but that's not going to worry.
17:27Their timings as it stands.
17:29A Ted down to you.
17:32Bortoleto was worried enough to ask his team to inspect the car,
17:36so he just trundled past me in the pit lane.
17:38Couldn't see anything on the edge of the floor,
17:40so it looks like it was the plank in the diffuser
17:43that he was worried about.
17:44So they've jacked him up in the Audi garage,
17:46and they are going to have a look at it,
17:47but I think it would have been just a few sort of scrapes,
17:50some curb rash if that actually exists, Crofty,
17:53and then he'll be out with one run at the end to set a time.
17:58But talking of the times, as Max goes out on the same set of soft tyres,
18:04is he followed by Antonelli?
18:06Yes, he is.
18:08Alonso's right on the cut-off.
18:10An early 120, a 120.2, a 120.5 maybe will see you into Q2.
18:17Alonso, it's tantalisingly close for the two-time world champion.
18:22And if you're new to Formula One, you're wondering what a plank is,
18:24it's a piece underneath the car that's not made of wood,
18:27that's made of other materials, a legality.
18:30You're not allowed to wear that away.
18:32But, of course, if you straddle a curb, it gets quite badly damaged,
18:36and that's to stop teams running the cars too low, basically,
18:39and do what we used to do in the 80s and 90s,
18:42and just throw a brand-new floor on it every day you went out,
18:46or a repaired one, a bodged-up one, whatever you had.
18:51And also, to take away a lot of some downforce, basically,
18:56to have a step underneath there.
18:58Otherwise, if we didn't do that over the decades,
19:00I don't think anybody would physically be able to drive these cars now.
19:04They would be so unbelievably fast if they were full ground effect,
19:09all the right suspension and semi-automatic or automatic gearboxes
19:14we used to have, ABS brake.
19:16If you didn't stop all of that, the cars would be too fast for the circuits
19:21and too fast for the drivers, and pointlessly fast, to be honest.
19:25Quite.
19:26Esteban Alcon currently 14th in the timings ahead of Oli Behrman,
19:31who's out-qualified him at the last four consecutive Grand Prix Behrman
19:35in that bottom six, along with the two Williams of Albon and Sainz,
19:38the two Cadillacs of Bottas and Perez,
19:40and the Audi of Bortoleto, who needs to get a time on the board.
19:45Max Verstappen's gone out on his set of used tyres
19:47that we were seeing in the practice sessions.
19:50The tyres were actually, once you've cooled them down,
19:52OK to go for another run and to go faster too.
19:56Seems the way, doesn't it?
19:57And at this stage, it's always worth quite clearly going out
20:00with a bit of extra fuel on board,
20:02even though you're probably throwing away a tenth of a second doing that,
20:05just to give yourself back to security, being able to go again,
20:09as we sure saw with Charles Leclerc.
20:11A couple of tenths outside the best time through the first sector for Max Verstappen.
20:16The Red Bull has been more impressive in the middle part of this lap,
20:20going through the chicane, six and seven.
20:22It's been named the driving centre corner.
20:24Now they've all got corner names at these.
20:26Turn eight, nine, Buda, and then Pest.
20:28I don't know if it is a particularly pesky turn.
20:31At turn nine, turn 11 is Lacey.
20:34And then we get down to Schumacher at turn 12.
20:38Senna and Ferenc-Zis to finish the lap.
20:40Of course, the Hungarian who won the very first Grand Prix,
20:43the French Grand Prix, back in 1906.
20:46I dare say these corner names are going to take some getting used to.
20:50Yeah, the driving centre one is not the one that thrills me.
20:54In the middle, it's a great little chicane, actually.
20:56I'm sure they could have come up with a better name than that.
20:59You're absolutely right.
21:01Second fastest from Max Verstappen doesn't improve on his best time so far.
21:05Antonelli's not improving.
21:06George Russell is, though, currently down in seventh at the moment.
21:10Antonelli to the line.
21:12Second fastest, actually, that is his best time of the session.
21:16But he's still about three-tenths off Lando Norris.
21:19Right, George Russell, another go on these tyres.
21:21Goes from seventh up to sixth.
21:23Not surprised, he was wrestling it, wasn't he?
21:27All the way through the final corner there for George.
21:30Here comes Carlos Sainz to try and get out of the bottom six.
21:33Does only just, though.
21:35The right side of the line for the time being.
21:38Here's his teammate Alex Albon to try and send him back down into that bottom six,
21:41and he hasn't.
21:42Alex Albon could find himself out here.
21:45He missed Q2 by seven-thousandths of a second in Spa as Leclerc goes eighth fastest.
21:51He's been out-qualified by Sainz in the last four races.
21:53Alex Albon not looking good for him here as Bortoleto put Sainz back in the bottom six with his time
22:00-lap.
22:00And if that counts, will it be good enough for P9?
22:02Ocon moves ahead a little bit.
22:04Oli Behrman goes up to P14.
22:07The projected cut-off time of 1.20.1.
22:10What can the rest do now?
22:12Alex, sorry, Alvin Lindblad stays 11th fastest.
22:16It'll be Kolopinto and Lawson to cross the line next.
22:20Kolopinto's on and out lap.
22:21Here comes Liam Lawson, and he stays 10th fastest.
22:25You've got Perez and Bottas, Stroll, Albon and Sainz in that bottom six as Hülkenberg goes sixth fastest.
22:32Nice lap from Nico Hülkenberg to get into the top six.
22:36Right, Valtteri Bottas, what have you got for us?
22:38Once upon a time, you're guaranteed Q3 here, and you're down in 21st at the moment.
22:43It looks like Aston Martin have an upgrade that is better for them now than the Cadillacs.
22:48Perez, slowest of all the qualifiers.
22:50Alonso goes P14, pushes Gasly into that bottom six.
22:56Gasly and Kolopinto, both on a flying lap, though.
22:59They've just gone through the first sector stroll pit.
23:02He's out.
23:03So it's Gasly and Kolopinto against Behrman and Alonso here to see what happens to sort this qualifying out.
23:11And there's a lot of people, I'm sure, with all due respect to Alpine,
23:14probably keeping the fingers crossed that Fernando Alonso can make it into Q2.
23:20Yeah, so it's the, you're absolutely right, it's the two Alpines now that can do some damage back there.
23:26They're both on personal best first and second sectors.
23:31Red lights are on.
23:31That's the end of the session.
23:33Gasly does indeed go 13.
23:34And that's pushed Oli Behrman right onto the cusp.
23:38I think Alonso is going to be safe here.
23:40So, Franco Kolopinto pushes Oli Behrman down into that bottom six.
23:45No one is on a lap behind Pierre Gasly.
23:50Fernando Alonso qualifies for Q2 for the first time this season.
23:55All right, good job.
23:57Maybe a bit more to come the next set.
24:00Let's go.
24:00Yeah, let's go.
24:02It's painful to say it, but that's quite a milestone for Aston Martin this year, isn't it?
24:07Yeah, so clearly, but the really good news is there, that they're clearly beginning to really understand that car.
24:15If you can make upgrades like that and just suddenly leap forward, they're past, he's out-qualified, they're a Haas,
24:24two Williams and two Cadillac.
24:26So, that's a decent step forward for Aston Martin.
24:30Now they need the power unit to do the same thing.
24:32Back comes that upgrade in Zandvoort.
24:35So, Sergio Perez.
24:40That's terrible.
24:41Why, why, why the balance is changing so much?
24:46Alex, it was a good lap considering the car is all over the place.
24:49That's on us.
24:51Not the first time we've heard James Vow say that during the course of qualifying this season.
24:57Sadly, for Williams, two cars out for Cadillac, two cars out.
25:01Lance Stroll misses out too.
25:03And Oli Behrman for Haas.
25:06It was a good lap considering the conditions.
25:08So, it's all about how our car had in it.
25:10Let's see what we can do overnight.
25:12Yeah.
25:13We'll just keep working.
25:16There's a race to come and Carlos Sainz from 15th on the grid finished third here back in 2021.
25:23He's got a big job to do tomorrow by a tenth of a second.
25:25And Oli Behrman is out as Aston Martin make it through with Alonso.
25:58And Oli Behrman is out as Aston Martin make it through with Alonso.
25:59And Oli Behrman is out as Aston Martin make it through with Alonso.
25:59And Oli Behrman is out as Aston Martin make it through with Alonso.

35:33Probably just carried a bit too much speed in
35:35And then hung on to the brake pedal a little bit too long
35:39And the front tyres just wouldn't live with it
35:41I think the good news for Charles Leclerc and for Lando Norris
35:45Who's on a used set of tyres
35:47Is that the yellow flag had stopped waving by the time they got down to that corner
35:50Leclerc goes second fastest
35:53Norris crosses the line now
35:55Three-tenths off Max Verstappen
35:57But as I say, that's a used set that he's using
36:02Only one set used during Q1 as well
36:06So they're saving tyres for the top ten shootout
36:10They think they'll be in there no problem
36:11Arvid Limblad goes third fastest
36:14And Alan Permain saying they were saving tyres during Q1 for him too
36:19George Russell got caught up in those double-waved yellows
36:23That were flying when Isaac Hadjar went off the track
36:27As Ocon goes eighth fastest
36:28So I think George Russell's first flying lap here
36:32Compromised by those yellow flags
36:35Eighth fastest for Gasly
36:38Antonelli
36:38Seven-hundredths of a second clear of Max Verstappen
36:42So he didn't get compromised by the yellows
36:44George Russell did
36:45And that's just bad luck being in the wrong place at the wrong time for George
36:48Yeah, to confirm, that's an Elie Verstappen
36:50New tyres, Lando Norris not
36:53Limblad was, Leclerc was
36:56And Piazza, both McLarens on used tyres
36:59In those front runners
37:03On board with Lewis Hamilton
37:05Soft tyres on
37:06Not the mediums from Q1
37:09That served him so well
37:10Goes quickest
37:11Wow
37:12Into the 1.17s for Lewis Hamilton
37:15By a couple of tenths of a second
37:18And whilst he goes fastest
37:20I said that the yellow flags stopped waving
37:23When Charles Leclerc got down to turn 12
37:26Where Isaac Hadjar went off the track
37:29I've got no grip on him
37:31Like, I don't know
37:32We're doing something wrong with tyres
37:34I have zero grip
37:36Yeah, I don't think he's alone in that
37:39Kimi Antonelli
37:40But I can see what he feels
37:41Because you're just riding on board with him
37:44You can
37:44You can see that he really is
37:47Wrestling and fighting away
37:48This is the Isaac Hadjar moment
37:50Down at turn 12
37:52Yeah, so he understood
37:54Front slid into the gravel
37:56And then, of course, the back has no grip
37:58When it gets there
37:58Gave it a little bit of throttle
38:00Which is probably
38:01Okay, but come on
38:02Someone is always the same
38:04Is he talking about traffic?
38:06Yeah, I don't think it was traffic though
38:08Was it?
38:09You can see George Russell
38:10Just in the back of the picture there
38:13Charles Leclerc has been noted
38:14For a yellow flag infringement
38:17And whether that's
38:18The stewards wanting to
38:20Just have a little look there
38:21To see if he did lift off or not
38:23When he went through that zone
38:25If the yellow flags were out
38:26Yeah, if it's double yellow
38:28You've got to really
38:29In fact, your time
38:31Normally
38:32As you've seen with George Russell
38:36You can't have a time
38:38If there's
38:38Everybody assumes
38:39It's double waved
38:40Double yellows
38:41If you go through that zone
38:43That's it
38:44That's your lap gone
38:44You don't even try to do a time
38:46But
38:48It's whether there was
38:49A single waved yellow
38:50A double waved yellow
38:51Did he lift?
38:52Did he not lift?
38:53Did he need to abandon his lap?
38:55Well
38:55Was it a double yellow?
38:57Should Charles Leclerc's lap time
38:59Have been deleted?
39:01I wonder
39:01The 1.18.9
39:02We'll let that sort itself out
39:05But just have that
39:05In the back of your mind
39:07As Lewis Hamilton
39:08Comes back into the pits
39:10Hamilton knocked out
39:12In Q2 in Hungary last year
39:14Yeah, it's a pretty tricky lap
39:16Yeah, there's plenty more time in there
39:17It was a pretty tricky lap
39:19For him there
39:20Only reached Q3
39:21By, what
39:22A hundredth of a second
39:23Here in 2024
39:24But looking in better shape
39:26It has to be said
39:27This time around
39:28No further investigation
39:30Charles Leclerc
39:31For a yellow flag infringement
39:33Phew, we can get on
39:34With qualifying
39:34With no penalties for anyone
39:37Ted
39:37Sorry
39:38Ted, down to you
39:40So far
39:41Across you, of course
39:41A couple of things from down here
39:42Gabriel Bottoletto
39:43Did an out lap
39:45And then came straight back
39:46Into the pits
39:47So I think that was on a used set
39:49Isaac Hadjar has put a new set of softs
39:51And has gone straight back out
39:53To make amends
39:54And get a time on the board
39:55And not for the first time
39:57Fernando Alonso has outfoxed
39:58Yours truly
39:59Down here in the pits
40:00Because he did have another set of new tires
40:03They were down the back of the couch
40:04So he's on them now
40:06Right
40:07He found them
40:07He found them
40:09He found them
