00:01МУЗЫКАЛЬНАЯ ЗАСТАВКА
00:41Practice for round seven of the Formula 3 championship
00:45and drivers getting themselves up to speed
00:48with the Hungarian circuit,
00:50a completely different challenge to what we had at Spa.
00:54Difficulties getting up to speed
00:56with the track just getting up to temperature.
00:59Saleem Hanna found himself into the barriers.
01:02Lots of lock-ups going down towards the first corner,
01:05which has been a regular feature throughout the day so far.
01:08Out front, though, Freddy Slater would go fastest.
01:11133.9 for him.
01:13He was one and a half tenths quicker than Brando Baddoware in second.
01:17Four tenths clear of Brando's teammate,
01:19Pedro Claro for Rodin Motorsport in P3.
01:22Gene Nakamura featured well up in fourth.
01:24Teofil Nihal was in fifth place.
01:27We did have two red flags, one for Saleem Hanna and one right at the end of the session
01:31with Noah Stromstead coming to a stop going down towards turn 12,
01:35where there will be an additional DRS zone for this season,
01:39giving us three overall.
01:41But that was practice.
01:42We're about to set the grid now for qualifying.
01:45Can Freddy Slater replicates what we've seen done by Logan Sargent,
01:50Rafa Kamara and Teofil Nihal this season
01:53in taking three pole positions in a row?
01:55If he does so provisionally,
01:57he will go into the lead of the championship
02:00with two points being awarded for pole position.
02:05Green flag at the end of the pit lane.
02:07We're getting ready to go.
02:08My name, Chris McCarthy.
02:09Alongside me, Piers Pryor, throughout the weekend.
02:12And Piers, this is a different challenge for them, isn't it?
02:16And a circuit where qualifying is absolutely crucial,
02:20much more so than somewhere like Spa.
02:22Absolutely.
02:23It's difficult to overtake around the Hungara ring.
02:25And as you mentioned, Chris,
02:27Freddy Slater fast in practice,
02:28looking to go back to back with poles,
02:30is probably the favourite, I would say, for this session.
02:34However, there's one man that will be looking to stop him doing that,
02:38and that is the man just creeping in the back there with the silver helmet,
02:40the number two, our championship leader.
02:42He was strong here last year.
02:44Second in the sprint was featuring high in that wet feature race.
02:48Unfortunately, he got taken out by Gerard Schee in that one.
02:50But he was strong here last year with Fremer.
02:52He's moved over to Campos this season.
02:53It's been an inspired move for his confidence
02:55and also his performances this year.
02:57And there is Gerard Schee.
02:58A driver is actually a specialist around this circuit
03:00for no reason other than he seems to always go well here.
03:03Last year was very strong in qualifying indeed.
03:05He was strong the season before in GB3 as well.
03:09So, yeah, look out for him, the Dam's Lucas Oil team as well.
03:12But there is your championship leader.
03:14Absolutely so.
03:15Now, last year, it was Rafa Kamara on pole with a 1.32.5 Vista circuit
03:20where he crowned himself the Formula 3 champion with a round to spare.
03:25Marie Boyer was second, Tuka Tappanen third for ART Grand Prix.
03:30What stood out to me most, Piers,
03:32was how close it was down the field.
03:35Six and a half tenths down to Nicola Lecorte in 26th place.
03:39It was so, so close.
03:41It was half a second between the top 23 drivers.
03:45So it's going to come down to very fine margins.
03:48Less than four tenths between pole and missing out on your partial reverse grid,
03:53which is outrageous, isn't it, when you think about it,
03:56considering you've got 30 drivers, 10 different teams,
04:00all the drivers from all corners of the globe,
04:01the best drivers of their area, the best drivers of their continents,
04:05all out there, which is why we see it so close.
04:07But it's going to be a close qualifying session, that's for sure.
04:10Hugo Gucheku, your championship leader.
04:12Let's hear from him what he had to say coming in to the race weekend.
04:18I think it shows, you know, the job we did at the start of the year
04:22to still be leading after Spa.
04:26And yeah, now going into this final phase,
04:28it's going to be really important to end off well
04:30and finish the year strong.
04:32So I'm sure it's going to be a close championship battle
04:35with the doubleheader in Madrid.
04:37But, you know, we've got to focus on our own job.
04:39You know, I think if we do all our bits right,
04:43I'm sure we're going to be in a really good place.
04:47So to cover off what Hugo was talking about there,
04:49for those of you who don't know,
04:51the last round of the championship at Madrid
04:54has now been awarded an additional feature race
04:58and a qualifying session as well,
05:00due to the fact that we are nine rounds this season
05:02rather than 10.
05:03It gives us 67 points available for that weekend
05:07compared to 39 points available here at the Hungary.
05:10And for new fans as well,
05:12Piers was referring to the reverse grid pole.
05:16So in Formula 3,
05:17the top 12 are reversed for the sprint race tomorrow
05:21and then they line up as they qualify on the feature race.
05:24Well, we heard from the championship leader.
05:26Let's now hear from the driver.
05:27One point behind him,
05:29Freddie Slater for Trident.
05:34For me, I don't focus on the championship.
05:36It's OK, it's nice to be at the front
05:37and we know what we need to do.
05:39But for me, it's just about maximizing my potential,
05:42the opportunities that we get given on every weekend.
05:44You know, it's FIA Formula 3, anything can happen.
05:46It's a very chaotic championship.
05:49And I think it's very clear what we need to do.
05:51And I think we need to improve our race pace.
05:53Like I say, I'm going to do everything I can
05:55to kind of maximize the result.
05:56And I think that's what we did at Spa.
05:58Of course, we didn't have the pace to win,
06:00but, you know, I walked away with a P3
06:01and drove really cleanly and really well.
06:03Didn't do anything stupid.
06:05So I think we're doing the right things at the moment
06:07to put ourselves in the best possible chance
06:09for the championship at the end of the year.
06:12He really is driving like someone going after a championship.
06:16No points for Ugo Ugochiku last weekend,
06:17which saw the gap close right down.
06:20Now, last weekend, Biz saw lots of people
06:22looking for that toe up the camel straight.
06:24This weekend, slightly different.
06:26You want some space and they're starting to look for that now.
06:29Absolutely.
06:30Here we go.
06:30Oh, here we go.
06:31Yes, we saw some jostling and side-by-side action
06:35at Spa looking for a toe.
06:36This weekend, it's looking for space.
06:38In theory, everyone on the racing line
06:39should be at racing speed by this point right here
06:42as per the race driver's briefing,
06:46but not what's going on at the moment.
06:48Drivers have to be a bit careful.
06:50Yeah, and now they're starting to get their foot round
06:52coming around the final corner.
06:54You want space due to the fact of that second sector
06:57in particular where corners come at you very quickly,
07:00but up to racing speed we go now.
07:03This is the first flying laps of this session.
07:06Most of them using a carryover hard tyre in practice,
07:09and now they've got the medium tyre on for this session.
07:12Three sets of the yellow side will medium tyres.
07:14We photo the second place in the championship,
07:16Freddy Slater down towards turn two.
07:18Downhill we go.
07:19Tricky braking zone this one
07:21because you continue to go downhill
07:22and you trail the brakes into the corner.
07:24Don't need to make the apex there.
07:25Then we're going to completely flat out
07:26to the lowest point of the circuit,
07:28exit at turn three.
07:30Yep, three sets of Pirelli medium tyres,
07:31so we'll probably see three runs
07:33from every driver in this session
07:34if all goes to plan.
07:36And those bustling...
07:37Oh, Slater wide at turn four.
07:39That's going to be a feature of this session.
07:40Yeah, and if he was four wheels over,
07:42that's lap gone for Freddy Slater.
07:44Four wheels over the white line
07:45means a lap deleted.
07:46Now looking at the timing,
07:48we have everyone putting their first sectors in.
07:51Freddy Slater is actually fastest
07:53of all of them so far.
07:55Yevon David actually going very quick as well.
07:57He's just a few hundreds off Freddy Slater,
08:00but getting ready to see
08:01the first flying laps coming in, Piss.
08:03Yeah, here we go through the fast turn 11.
08:06Again, another corner where we often see drivers
08:08pushing the limits and going beyond track limits.
08:10So Slater fast in the first,
08:12not fast in the middle,
08:13but we know this lap will not stand.
08:15He's been over track limits.
08:16Tearfield Nile, the driver that took the
08:18back-to-back-to-back-to-back pole positions
08:20at the first few events of the season.
08:22He's fastest for Campos in the middle sector.
08:25We don't know whether he's gone over track limits
08:26at this stage because they will be getting to those
08:28and deleting the laps as they get to the end of the lap.
08:32Slater provisionally jumps up
08:34to the top of the field,
08:35but we know almost certainly that's going to get erased.
08:37What about Tearfield Nile?
08:38Here we go.
08:39Across the line comes the Campos racing driver.
08:41He's taken three poles,
08:42and provisionally he's gone right to the top,
08:45but a long way to go in this session.
08:47Slide for Yevon David coming through the final corner.
08:50He had a very good first sector.
08:52How did the second and third line up?
08:53Pretty good.
08:54The AIX driver who has taken a podium this season
08:57at Silverstone P7.
08:58MP Motorsport desperate for a podium themselves.
09:02Sliding through the final corner.
09:03Tapanen put it on the front row last time.
09:06Here he comes up to the line,
09:07and once again, second place for him,
09:09but Taito Kato looking very quick.
09:11Taito Kato has looked quick all season.
09:13He's been up inside the top ten a fair few times.
09:15We head into the final corner.
09:16Bit of a slide through the middle,
09:17but cuts back just about staying on the rubber.
09:19What can the ART driver do as he comes over the line now?
09:23Oh, eighth place.
09:24Pretty good, but not exactly as promising
09:26as he would have hoped after a purple first sector.
09:29We look at Jin Nakamura,
09:31the driver that was so strong last time out as well.
09:33What can he do?
09:35To third place for Jin Nakamura.
09:38Gerard G goes up to fourth as well.
09:41Two dams drivers in the top five.
09:44Finn McLaughlin goes to twelfth.
09:45Let's look back then at Freddy Slater
09:47and this mistake for him up the hill.
09:49We saw the off-board shot.
09:50Turned four, tips it in, blind entry.
09:52Got on the power very early.
09:53Hit the curve.
09:54I think we just got it.
09:55Everything happened a bit early there.
09:56Slater braked early, turned in a bit early.
09:58Got the power and hit the curve,
09:59but just ran a bit wide.
10:00We see a big lock-up from Louis Sharp.
10:02It still makes the apex.
10:04That won't do that front right Pirelli tire any good,
10:06but it didn't seem to hurt his lap time too much.
10:08Similarly, for our championship leader, Ugo Chukwu.
10:12Yeah, Sharp had his lap deleted.
10:15Matteo de Paolo had his lap deleted as well.
10:17So did Celine Hanna.
10:19So three drivers who have lost their time.
10:20Freddy Slater will join that queue.
10:23So you might see that timing tower on the left.
10:26Drivers will go shooting down it
10:29and that will mean their lap time has been deleted.
10:32Ugo Ugo Chukwu, first run in for the championship leader.
10:35Slater just needs to be up in the top 12, doesn't he,
10:39now at this stage of the season.
10:41He and Freddy Slater, just one point between them.
10:44Neither of them can afford big mistakes.
10:46They've got Teofil Nile 39 points back
10:49trying to chase them down already.
10:51Very close gaps as well, Piers.
10:53Yeah, very close indeed.
10:54We saw last season, wasn't it, 4-10 to the top 12.
10:57Well, we currently are 4-10 to the top 12.
10:59That'll be a great result for Finn McLaughlin
11:00if things finish as they are now.
11:03He hasn't made it inside the tops of this season
11:05off the top of my head.
11:05I don't think he has.
11:06Just the once at Silverstone.
11:08Oh, just the once, of course.
11:08Sorry, that was a good result from McLaughlin at Oceki.
11:10Actually, he hadn't been to or raced out before.
11:13But obviously, things almost certainly will change.
11:16As every run that we do,
11:18the cars burn off more fuel.
11:20No refuelling during the session.
11:21They put a new set of Pirelli medium tyres on again.
11:26And Jin Nakamura currently sitting in third place.
11:30A driver that's high on confidence.
11:31Getting a good run of form with Hitek.
11:33He really is.
11:35Jin Nakamura coming into pit lane.
11:37We asked him about his thoughts on the Hungarian circuit
11:40coming into the weekend.
11:41Let's hear what the Japanese driver had to say.
11:46I did race here last year in Freca.
11:49So the results were not positive.
11:52But still, we had a very good pace.
11:54And I have confidence to drive this truck.
11:57So, yeah, I like this truck, to be honest.
12:00But I just hate very hot weather, I would say.
12:05So if it's too hot, I'm going to hate it.
12:09But the truck itself, I like it.
12:13Jin Nakamura, one that doesn't like dealing with the hot conditions.
12:18This is a place where it can get very hot around the circuit.
12:22But Sunday, where there is a chance of rain as well.
12:26We did have a wet feature race here last season as well.
12:29So will history repeat itself?
12:31We'll have to find out.
12:32So far, so good, though, for Jin Nakamura.
12:34P3 for him.
12:35So far, so good indeed.
12:38I'm interested to see that both of the dam's Lucas Oil cars
12:41of Gerard Schee and Nicola LaCorte up there,
12:43they seem like they have genuine pace this weekend.
12:45Nicola LaCorte, seventh place in practice,
12:48only half a second away.
12:49Gerard Schee was strong last season,
12:51having a bit of a front wing adjustment from Ugo Ugachuku.
12:56Yeah, and Ugo's family watching on from the sidelines,
13:00looking down at the live pictures, I'm sure, as well.
13:04And just keeping updated with how things are going there.
13:09Got Ugo leading the way, of course,
13:11in the championship by points.
13:13And we're well into the business end of the season now,
13:15so it gets even more nerve-wracking watching races
13:18than it would do on a normal weekend.
13:21Freddie Slater is going to lead us out of the queue.
13:23And we've got currently in seventh place,
13:27but we saw him go all four wheels over the white line
13:30up at turn four.
13:31So we'll see what happens with that.
13:34Nicola LaCorte, fifth place for him in this session so far.
13:38Let's go through the top 12 as it stands there.
13:41We've got Niall and Tapanen, one and two,
13:43then Nakamura, third.
13:44G is fourth, LaCorte, fifth,
13:46then GST, Slater, Kulnagi,
13:48Ugochuku, Kanato-Li, Taito-Kato, McLaughlin,
13:52and feature race winner Ernesto Rivera,
13:54the driver who would be missing out
13:56just on a sprint race pole.
13:58But two more runs to come.
13:59This is the first of them.
14:01I expect the order on the left-hand side
14:03to be markedly different after the second run,
14:05which we've got coming up now,
14:06and then probably will change again on that third run.
14:09This is the point of the session
14:10where potentially we may see some teams
14:13choose to do something slightly different.
14:14The baseline strategy for our qualifying session
14:17will be three runs,
14:18which lasts about nine minutes each,
14:20so everyone's going out 17 minutes to go.
14:22They'll do a nine-minute run now,
14:23and then they'll come in, change tyres,
14:24and do another nine-minute run.
14:26It's nine minutes because you do two warm-up laps
14:27on a set of tyres,
14:28a flying lap and then a slow-in lap.
14:30But we've seen a number of times this season
14:32from Van Amersfoort, from ART,
14:34teams choosing to go slightly off set
14:37and be on a fast lap
14:38when everyone else is in the pits
14:39to give themselves free air.
14:40Now, it's one of the shortest circuits
14:42on the FIA Formula 3 calendar,
14:434.3 kilometres with 30 cars around the circuit.
14:47That's not a huge amount of space,
14:48and we saw drivers queuing up
14:50on the final sector of that first run
14:53or leading on to the first half of that first run.
14:54Slater, actually, was one of the drivers
14:56that was trying to find a space, did so.
14:58I wonder if we're going to see any more of that
15:00in this session or this part of the session.
15:02Yeah, everyone will be looking to improve.
15:05There's absolutely no doubt about that.
15:06We're a second away from the pole time,
15:08so that was just the warm-up, that first run.
15:12And now we get into the next phase of the session,
15:15and this is where the punches really start to be thrown.
15:18Teofield Nile on board with him.
15:20We're going to go for another warm-up lap.
15:22Adrian Campos nervously watching on from the sidelines.
15:27I think he knows and would have been saying to Teofield Nile,
15:30you're still in this championship fight.
15:32Go out there and get pole position
15:34and put pressure on the other two drivers.
15:37They know what it takes to go all the way
15:40in a championship fight.
15:43Teofield Nile currently leading the way
15:45with Tuka Tappanen second,
15:46who's 14th in the standings,
15:48which I'm sure will come as a surprise for many.
15:50Did the double here as well in Formula Regional,
15:53Tuka Tappanen, so it has very good history,
15:56does the Ferrari junior.
15:58Interesting in practice,
16:00the middle sector, sector two,
16:03which goes from turn four, five, six, seven, eight, nine
16:06through to the exit of turn 11,
16:07where most of the corners are,
16:09where most of the lap time is available.
16:11Taito Kato was actually fastest
16:13in that middle sector there.
16:14And we had Badawe, Lakota and Slater.
16:16They were all up there.
16:19And then you had Teofield Nile and Ugachuku
16:21first and second in sector one,
16:23which is dominated by the long straight down
16:26towards turn one.
16:27Then you've got another straight down towards turn two
16:29and then a flat-out section through turn three.
16:30So potentially just a slightly differing set-up approaches.
16:35Maybe, this is conjecture at this point from me,
16:38but maybe slightly lower downforce configuration
16:40for the Campos drivers,
16:44choosing to be a bit fast in the straights,
16:45lose a little bit in the middle,
16:46but gain it back in a straight line
16:47compared to the fast middle sector
16:50from the ARTs, the Dams,
16:53and Roden's as well,
16:56potentially Slater as well.
16:57He was fourth pass in the middle sector.
17:00Ernesto Rivera, Red Bull Junior,
17:02just behind fellow Red Bull Junior,
17:03Finn McLaughlin,
17:05will be looking to move forward.
17:06Has been so strong this season,
17:09all five rounds he has done.
17:10He has been in the top 12 in the standings.
17:13Now we start to see the drivers
17:15getting themselves some space
17:17out in the front of the queue
17:18and looking to improve
17:19after that mistake last time
17:21will be Audi Junior Freddy Slater
17:23as he powers his way
17:24down the start-finish straight now.
17:25Here we go.
17:26This is the all-important braking zone
17:27for turn one.
17:28You've got a long time to think about it.
17:29We've seen many, many lock-ups
17:31from F3, F2, and Formula One drivers.
17:33A few actually ending up in the barrier,
17:35but nicely managed there from Slater
17:37as we head it down towards turn one.
17:38All looks under control so far.
17:40He knows he needs a clean lap.
17:42He will have known that he ran wide
17:44at the exit of turn four last time.
17:45Dances the car to the middle of turn two.
17:47Doesn't make the apex.
17:48That's okay.
17:49No one does in a Formula 3 round here.
17:51He keeps the minimum speed up
17:52by running around the middle of the circuit there
17:54as it's off camber.
17:54This was where he went off last time.
17:56Will he turn in later?
17:57Three and a half.
17:58Turns up in sector one alone.
18:00Beautifully within track limits.
18:01Now turn five.
18:02This is the middle sector.
18:03We're getting into the meat and the potatoes
18:04of the lap now.
18:05Out to the gravel on the left-hand side.
18:07Technical six-seven chicane coming up.
18:09Hopefully we'll hop the curb on the right
18:11and the left.
18:12Nicely done.
18:13Stay within track limits once again.
18:15Technical's turns eight on the left
18:17and turn nine.
18:19Try and get the power early
18:20because it's a bit of a run now
18:21as we head flat out through turn ten.
18:22Not really a corner.
18:23Just setting you up
18:24for the entry of turn eleven.
18:26Important to stay within track limits once again.
18:29Just about right out of the limit of grip.
18:31Two and a half tenths up at this stage
18:32but everyone else improving as well.
18:34Down to the final sector.
18:35Turn twelve.
18:36The right-hander.
18:36Then back to the right-hand side
18:38to open up the long apex turn thirteen.
18:40Slater was fastest in this final sector
18:42in practice this morning.
18:43Hooks up the curb beautifully on the inside.
18:45Gets some rotation
18:46as we head into the final corner.
18:48Freddy Slater now through the final corner
18:51and you can see with the steering wheel
18:52how aggressive he's having to be
18:54towards the line we go now.
18:56This should power him to the top
18:58and it does so.
18:59133.4.
19:00Badoer just behind in second place
19:02now over the line.
19:04700s back.
19:05What about Teofil Nal?
19:07The Frenchman he has got.
19:08He doesn't improve
19:09so stays fourth place.
19:10Now we pick up Red Bull Junior
19:12Ernesto Rivera
19:13currently in 15th.
19:14That's about to change.
19:15He goes to P7.
19:16Ugachuku is the next.
19:17We need to keep an eye on his teammate
19:19and we pick him up now
19:20coming to the final two corners, Piers.
19:22Yeah, two green sectors so far.
19:23No purples
19:24but that's not a big issue.
19:25We're going in narrow
19:26to the final corner
19:27making it work.
19:28The driver's going in narrow there
19:29getting to the last corner.
19:31How many times have we seen
19:31drivers have oversteer moments
19:32on the way in?
19:33Ugachuku dancing the rear of the car
19:35makes the apex
19:36that no one else did
19:37in the final corner.
19:38That should give him a good run
19:39onto the start finish straight
19:40well with this put Ugachuku.
19:41Not good enough, Chris.
19:4311th place.
19:44That would be a front row start
19:45for the sprint
19:46but he would be far behind
19:48his championship rival.
19:49Tapanen up towards the line.
19:51He comes now.
19:51No improvement from him
19:52and that will be a lap deleted
19:54for Giusti
19:55in the background as well.
19:56He didn't improve anyway.
19:57What about James Wharton?
19:59Gained six places
20:00a little bit closer
20:02to the top 12
20:02but needs more to improve.
20:04Taito Kato
20:04just outside that top 12
20:06and now he's comfortably in it.
20:08P7
20:08for the Japanese driver.
20:10His teammate Gwadish
20:11P11.
20:12So
20:13Slater
20:14133.451
20:15that is now his only
20:17lap
20:18that has not been deleted.
20:19His first one
20:20did get deleted.
20:21Lecorte
20:21second.
20:22What a lap
20:23from the young Italian driver.
20:25Then Badouer,
20:26Niall,
20:26Tapanen
20:27all within a tenth
20:28of a second.
20:29Nakamura,
20:30Kato,
20:31G,
20:31Rivera,
20:32Lee,
20:33Giusti
20:33and Christian Ho
20:34is up into the top 12.
20:36Whoa!
20:36There it goes.
20:37Full of styling board
20:38and a front wing
20:39in the process.
20:40Straight mode
20:41and no mode.
20:43We had Killcam here
20:44last year
20:44where the camera
20:45took a pretty bitter end.
20:47Saw his life flash
20:49through his eyes
20:49and then Enzo De Ligny
20:50ran off the exit
20:51at Turn 7.
20:52It's been a close kill,
20:54hasn't it?
20:54Stromstead.
20:55Now,
20:55there you go.
20:57You can see
20:58just getting dragged
20:59over the kerb
21:00on the exit there,
21:01Piz.
21:02Stromstead,
21:02you saw he was just
21:03half a car
21:04with half a tyre
21:05wider
21:05than when we were
21:07on board with Slater
21:07and that just meant
21:08that when he got on
21:09the power in the middle
21:09of the corner
21:10the grip wasn't there.
21:11We've seen in practice
21:12from F3, F2
21:13and Formula 1
21:14as soon as you get
21:15slightly off
21:16the perfect racing line
21:17the grip drops away
21:18so aggressively
21:19that you just have
21:20no grip mid-corner
21:21and then that leads you
21:22to run wide on the exit
21:23and Stromstead
21:24with a lost time
21:24and that lap time as well.
21:26I'm surprised actually,
21:27Chris,
21:27at how few drivers
21:29improved on that second run
21:30considering the tracks
21:32are holes
21:32part of a session cleaner,
21:34a bit more rubber down,
21:36the drivers got more experience.
21:37In theory,
21:38the fuel's burned off as well.
21:39In theory,
21:39every single run
21:40they should be going
21:40two or three,
21:41maybe four tenths
21:42of a lap quicker.
21:43So Slater will be happy
21:44that he's currently
21:45at the head of the field
21:45but he needs to go out
21:46and perform once again
21:47because that lap time
21:48that he's done at 33-4
21:49may not be enough
21:50for ultimate pole position
21:51at the finals part
21:52of this session.
22:21This is a crucial run
22:23into the summer break as well.
22:24You'd have to wait a long time
22:25to come back from this
22:26so Ugo knows
22:27this is a big run
22:28coming up now.
22:29This is crunch time
22:30for Ugo Chukwu.
22:31He can't afford
22:32to have a track limit.
22:33He can't afford
22:34to have a poor run.
22:35He can't afford
22:35to lock up at turn one.
22:37This is what
22:37the Formula One teams,
22:39the people
22:40that are making decisions
22:41about these drivers'
22:42future careers
22:43will be looking at.
22:44When your back's
22:44against the wall,
22:45how do you react?
22:46When the pressure's on,
22:47what can you do?
22:48How can you deliver?
22:49We've seen it
22:50for the likes of
22:50Rafa Kamra last year.
22:52He had a couple of times
22:52and even this year
22:53in Formula 2,
22:54our Formula 3 champion
22:55of last season
22:55moved up to Formula 2.
22:56We saw it in both Miami
22:58and also in Monaco
23:00when he had pressure on,
23:01didn't get a lap in,
23:02had a couple of incidents,
23:03touched the wall.
23:04He only had one run to do it.
23:05Bangs it on pole position.
23:06Can Ugo Chukwu go out there,
23:08close that gap,
23:09get himself into the top 10
23:10or even better,
23:11get towards Slater
23:12at the front of the field
23:13and really give Slater
23:14a problem for the remainder
23:15of the season?
23:16It's only been Slater
23:17and Ugo Chukwu
23:18that have been in the top 12
23:19every session so far.
23:20Oh no,
23:21Kato has a lap deleted.
23:23So that moves Ugo Chukwu
23:24into the top 12
23:25going into this final run.
23:27What a change that is.
23:29It provisionally puts him
23:30on sprint race pole,
23:32but Slater is on overall
23:34pole position as it stands.
23:37Still one more run to come
23:38and things could change
23:39once again very quickly.
23:42Slater, La Corte,
23:43Badoua, Nile,
23:44Tapanen, Nakamura,
23:46G, Rivera, Lee,
23:47G, Steeho, Ugo Chukwu.
23:49Those are the top 12
23:51final runs now incoming.
23:53Eight minutes,
23:54which is closer
23:55than to the end of the session
23:57than I thought we were going to have
23:58our final run,
23:59which means that I think
24:00pretty much all 30
24:02of our FIA Formula 3 cars
24:04will be going for
24:05their final lap
24:07at pretty much the same time.
24:10It is Slater
24:10that leads the whole field out.
24:12That's good for Slater.
24:14That means that he can control
24:15the front of the field.
24:16He will do everything he can
24:18to try and keep
24:18everyone else behind him
24:20while bringing his tyres
24:21into a temperature situation
24:24that will give him
24:25the best opportunity of a lap
24:26because if he has cars in front,
24:27it just opens up variables
24:28and that's what Ugo Chukwu
24:29and everyone else behind
24:30is going to have to try and do.
24:31They're going to have to manage
24:32the gaps of the cars in front
24:33and behind,
24:34whereas Slater has clear track
24:35ahead of him for now.
24:37Salim Hanna,
24:38your notice,
24:39is back with us this weekend.
24:41He was racing here
24:41Formula Regional
24:42earlier this season,
24:43was with us at Red Bull Ring.
24:45That's the car
24:46that should be Brad Benavides,
24:48but he is currently injured.
24:51He brought out
24:52the red flag earlier,
24:53didn't he?
24:53Salim Hanna didn't really
24:54get a lap in because of that,
24:56had a crash at Turn 5
24:57and now has had both laps deleted.
24:59So just needs to get a time
25:00on the board here.
25:01Doesn't want to make
25:01that uncomfortable trip
25:03to the stewards
25:04to ask for permission
25:05to go racing.
25:06LaCorte
25:06on for what could be
25:08his best qualifying
25:09up there in third.
25:10Yeah, LaCorte,
25:11as I mentioned,
25:11looked genuinely strong
25:12in practice earlier.
25:13A second-year driver,
25:14we've spoken about it before,
25:15he had some ups
25:16and a fair few downs
25:18last season,
25:18but has really come back
25:19this year
25:20and gelled with the Damns team,
25:21really moved on
25:22as a young driver
25:23and as a young person
25:23is really pushing on,
25:25got a great attitude
25:25this season
25:26and it's really paying off.
25:27He's been consistently
25:28faster at any point
25:30than he was last year
25:31and then this weekend
25:31looks like he's just
25:32on a new run of form.
25:34He's got Gerard Shea,
25:35his teammate,
25:35who's strong around here,
25:36but he's outdoing him
25:37so far.
25:37LaCorte,
25:37if things ended as it were,
25:38would be going
25:39for his best weekend
25:41of points to date.
25:42And if he just
25:43improves slightly,
25:44he could give
25:44Damnsuka Soil
25:45their first pole position
25:46in Formula 3.
25:48Could we see that done
25:49by Nicola LaCorte?
25:51Looks like it's going to be
25:52one more warm-up run
25:53before we go for it
25:55for the final laps
25:56of the session.
25:58Baddweir has got his form
25:59back, hasn't he,
26:00in this session so far.
26:01We saw him back on the podium
26:03in the sprint race
26:04last weekend.
26:05Niall in fourth place,
26:06Tapanen in fifth place.
26:08It's been four years
26:09since MP have taken
26:10a pole position.
26:11Is that about to change
26:12in this session?
26:14Now we see Niall
26:16in the number one
26:17within a tenth
26:17of a second.
26:188-hundredths back
26:20but fourth place.
26:21Strange when you say
26:21that one.
26:22It's crazy, isn't it,
26:23how close it is.
26:24I mean, what's 12th place?
26:26Ugachuku's only
26:26four-tenths away
26:27from Slater.
26:29Four-tenths is
26:29a slight lock-up.
26:31It's missed apex.
26:32It's getting on the power
26:34a bit earlier,
26:34a bit late in a corner.
26:35It's two average corners
26:37compared to two excellent corners.
26:38It's nothing, really,
26:39which is why Slater
26:41is going to have to put
26:42in another good lap
26:43to try and consolidate
26:45pole position.
26:45He won't mind
26:46if he backs everyone up
26:47and everyone trips
26:48over each other.
26:48because that reduces
26:50their chances of improving
26:51and besting him
26:52but he also needs
26:53to go out there
26:53and deliver as well
26:54as his team-mate.
26:57Stromstead also
26:58in this pack.
26:58He's fourth in the queue
26:59in the number four there.
27:01Same colours.
27:02And, of course,
27:04we keep an eye
27:04on Ugachuku as well.
27:06The championship leader
27:06one point between
27:09Slater and Ugo
27:10and he is currently
27:12in P12.
27:14Down towards turn 12
27:15we go
27:16and it's going to be
27:17Slater leading
27:18the queue.
27:19He'll be happy
27:20doing that.
27:21We'll want a clear track
27:21in front of him.
27:23Let's see what he can do
27:24on this final lap.
27:25Track limit offences
27:26cannot be afforded.
27:27Mistakes cannot be afforded.
27:29We could see
27:30lots of improvements
27:31on this final lap.
27:33Let's do it then.
27:34Final runs
27:35in qualifying
27:36for round seven.
27:37Let's do it.
27:38On board
27:38with the Italian
27:39Badouer.
27:40Across the line
27:41we go, Piers.
27:41This, the final runs.
27:43Brando Badouer
27:44second fastest
27:45in practice
27:45for road in motorsport.
27:46We ride on board
27:47down towards turn.
27:48We're looking at the back
27:48of the current pole sitter.
27:50Provisional pole sitter
27:51Freddie Slater
27:52breaking hard
27:52and a big, big lock up
27:54into turn one.
27:55Somehow
27:55still making the apex
27:57of turn one
27:57but that front right
27:58will be vibrating
28:00the hands of Brando Badouer
28:01for the remainder
28:01of the lap
28:02and also not giving him
28:03ideal grip
28:03as he goes through turn two.
28:04We cut back
28:05to the driver
28:06directly behind
28:06Teofil Nile.
28:07The driver with the most
28:08pole positions
28:09this season so far
28:10was unstoppable
28:11at the start of the season.
28:12Heads downhill
28:13to the lowest point
28:14of the circuit.
28:14Exit turn three
28:15up towards turn four.
28:17How are the first sectors
28:18looking, Chris,
28:18as we come through
28:19the first intermediate?
28:19Well, up towards
28:20the left hand
28:22that we go
28:22and it is neck and neck
28:24between Badouer
28:25and Nile
28:25but quickest
28:26is Slater.
28:27Quickest of anyone
28:28is Pedro Claro.
28:29He's just done
28:30a 33.6.
28:31He's down in 24th.
28:33Needs to improve
28:33and now we come
28:34to the tricky part
28:35of the circuit pit.
28:35This is where
28:36all of the technical corners
28:37left, right, left, right,
28:38left,
28:39as we head through here.
28:40That's turn seven,
28:41eight and then nine
28:42the right-hander here
28:43sliding our way
28:44through turn nine
28:44up to the edge
28:45of track limits
28:45just about keeping
28:46it together.
28:47Claro still fast
28:48in the first.
28:49What about the middle
28:49sector as we head
28:50to the end
28:50of the second sector?
28:51Oh, Teofil Nile
28:52dancing the car
28:53through there.
28:54Nile's not going
28:54to improve, Chris.
28:56Slater might not
28:57improve either.
28:58He's gone slower
28:58through the second sector
28:59as has Badouer
29:01as well.
29:01Lockup
29:02incoming there
29:03for Nile.
29:04There could be
29:05opportunities for people
29:06to make big jumps
29:06here because it doesn't
29:07look like we might see
29:08huge improvements
29:09on board
29:10with the Frenchman
29:11Teofil Nile
29:12third in the championship
29:13sliding through
29:14the final corner.
29:16Teofil Nile
29:17up to the line
29:17we go.
29:18No improvement
29:19from Freddy Slater
29:20nor the second place
29:22nor Brando Badouer
29:24second in the queue
29:25behind.
29:25Are we going to see
29:26improvements?
29:27Pedro Clara
29:27only making
29:28one place
29:29and it doesn't seem
29:30like we're getting
29:30huge improvements.
29:31As I say that,
29:32Mateo Kulnagi
29:33puts himself
29:34up onto the front
29:36row of the grid.
29:36Now we jump on board
29:37with Mateo Gwadish.
29:38Mateo Gwadish
29:39race winner
29:39feature race winner
29:40from Silverstone
29:41fighting with the car
29:42through the last corner.
29:43Bit of understood
29:44in the middle.
29:44Where will this put
29:45Gwadish?
29:46He's snicking a toe
29:47off the back
29:47of a Trident
29:48into the top ten.
29:49And what about
29:50Ugo Ugochuku?
29:51He has improved
29:51through the first sector
29:52and the second sector
29:54as well.
29:54Let's first follow
29:55his teammate
29:56Ernesto Rivera
29:57feature race winner
29:58one week ago.
30:00Now he heads
30:00through the final corner.
30:02Can he put himself
30:03up towards pole position?
30:05DRS open
30:06P7 for him.
30:07Now it's all about
30:08what happens
30:08to Ugo Ugochuku.
30:10Championship leader
30:11is out of the top 12.
30:12He must get inside it
30:13and does so.
30:15Ugo Ugochuku
30:16P5
30:17and just 700s
30:18back from Slater
30:19and Tuukka Tapanen
30:20goes to pole position.
30:23What a lap
30:23from Tuukka Tapanen.
30:25Where did that come
30:25from?
30:26From the finished driver
30:28pulls it out of the bag
30:29right at the end
30:30to take his first pole position
30:32in Formula 3
30:33and a first for MP
30:35since Monza
30:36in 2022.
30:38Wow.
30:38What a result
30:39for the finished driver.
30:40Tuukka Tapanen
30:41flew under the radar there.
30:43Not fastest
30:43in any of the sectors
30:45but just strung
30:46a good lap together
30:47to sneak in
30:48by four hundredths
30:49of a second
30:50at the end.
30:51Wow.
30:51What a lap from Tapanen.
30:52It's a circuit
30:53he goes well at.
30:54Last year
30:54a podium remember
30:55with ART
30:56moved over to MP
30:57motorsport this year
30:58and takes pole position.
30:59Let's have a look
31:00at some of the replays
31:01as drivers
31:01were not improving
31:02due to errors like that.
31:03Birum Bakhti running
31:04wide on the exit
31:05at turn 12.
31:07That's why he didn't
31:08feature inside the top 10
31:09and also
31:11what a lap Chris.
31:12Matija Kornagi
31:13MP
31:14out of nowhere.
31:16They were pretty much
31:16nowhere in practice
31:18earlier on
31:18and then
31:19bombs
31:20first
31:20and third.
31:22Wow.
31:23Absolutely fantastic.
31:25Matija Kornagi
31:26two fourth places
31:27for him
31:27last time out
31:28and he puts himself
31:30in P3
31:31MP
31:32who've had a really
31:33tough run of things
31:34at times this season.
31:35First
31:36and third
31:37on the grid
31:38and that's a superb
31:39result for the Argentine
31:41driver
31:41Matija Kornagi.
31:42He'll be incredibly
31:43happy with that.
31:44Freddie Slater
31:45misses out
31:46on the two points
31:47available
31:48for pole position.
31:50Ugo Ugochukwu
31:51will be glad
31:52to see Tuka Tapanen
31:54take pole
31:54because that is
31:55two points
31:56that won't go
31:56to Freddie Slater
31:57and Tapanen
31:58becomes the first
31:59Finnish pole sitter
32:00since Hungary
32:01here in 2013
32:03where Aro Vainio
32:05took pole
32:05in GP3
32:06so what a result
32:07for the Finnish
32:08Vats.
32:08Wow.
32:09Wow, wow, wow.
32:09Didn't Tapanen
32:10need that as well?
32:11Tricky, tricky
32:12season
32:13this year
32:13for Tuka Tapanen.
32:15He's not had
32:15things his own way.
32:16He would have been
32:17hoping to be a championship
32:18hopeful this year.
32:18One of the highest
32:19seeded drivers
32:20from last year.
32:21Move over to MP.
32:22MP was strong
32:23of course last year
32:23nearly
32:24challenging for the championship
32:26with Tim Tramnitz
32:26last year.
32:27He couldn't quite
32:28bring it to the end
32:28but for whatever reason
32:30he's just not had it
32:31but this weekend
32:32this session really
32:33again Tapanen
32:3415th
32:35Kolnagy
32:35who was good

32:43but good job.
32:44Now we have
32:45the races ahead
32:46so let's focus
32:47on Tapanen.

32:56driver to do so
32:56first at this level
32:58in 13 years
33:00where it was
33:01pole position
33:02but Aro Vainio
33:02here in 2013
33:03full circle moment
33:05in terms of
33:06the Finnish fans
33:07there
33:08and Tapanen
33:08will be incredibly
33:09pleased with that
33:10as will MP
33:11been a little while
33:12since they last
33:12at pole at Monza
33:13in 2022
33:15and that way
33:17to change your confidence
33:18we have a championship
33:19standings
33:20where from third
33:21down
33:22it's very wide
33:23open
33:23Tapanen has a chance
33:25to get himself
33:25involved in that
33:27fight for the last
33:28spot on the
33:29championship podium
33:30now
33:30that's a way
33:31to do it
33:32for Tapanen
33:33huge congratulations
33:34to him
33:35but the race
33:37is incoming
33:37and the celebrations
33:39will be
33:39short for the
33:41MP team
33:42there
33:42they'll of course
33:43be happy with it
33:43but now it will be
33:44focused on taking

34:43MP did
34:44between practice

34:47but also
34:48let's not take
34:48anything away
34:49from both the
