00:00:01МУЗЫКАЛЬНАЯ ЗАСТАВКА
00:00:40Round 9 of Formula 2 brings us to the Hungara ring here in 2026.
00:00:47And one of the most crucial qualifying sessions of the season,
00:00:51a circuit that provides very few opportunities for overtaking,
00:00:56but lots of opportunities to make mistakes.
00:00:58We saw drivers finding the limits as they went after pole position
00:01:03for the feature race on Sunday.
00:01:06Big lock-ups down to Turn 1.
00:01:07That's been a feature throughout the weekend so far.
00:01:10But it was Cushmine who would go and take his second pole position
00:01:14of the season with a 128.896,
00:01:18just beating Rafa Kamara to pole,
00:01:21with Noel Leon finishing in third place.
00:01:24Your championship leader, Nikola Solov, was down in seventh.
00:01:28Gabriele Mini, second in the championship P9,
00:01:31putting them on the front two rows for the sprint race today.
00:01:34This is the day on Sprint Race Saturday, where we reverse the top ten.
00:01:38Here's a look at the circuit for you.
00:01:41The only change we've had is the DRS zone coming down towards the final two corners,
00:01:47which has been added in for this year.
00:01:49And then we have DRS down to Turn 1 and down to Turn 2 as well.
00:01:54It's going to be 28 laps of racing.
00:01:57Then we'll have 37 laps of feature race tomorrow,
00:01:59where there will be a compulsory pit stop.
00:02:02They'll have to use both the soft and the medium tyres.
00:02:04But you can see the yellow sidewall medium tyres on the cars today.
00:02:08We're getting ready to go racing.
00:02:09My name is Chris McCarthy.
00:02:10Alongside me, Piers Fryer, Piers, Sebastian Montoya,
00:02:14for the third time this season, takes Sprint Race top.
00:02:16Yeah, he really needs to convert this one, doesn't he?
00:02:18He wants to make the most of his, I say, fortune in qualifying.
00:02:22Of course, he did the job to put himself in that position
00:02:25to get the partial reverse grid position.
00:02:27But he, you know, he's missed out a couple of times.
00:02:30The frame has not maybe been the car to have at points this year,
00:02:32but Sebastian Montoya is going to be leading the field away
00:02:35after a good start that he hopes he will get.
00:02:37Dina Muganovic, there or thereabouts as well, looking to push on.
00:02:41The driver's had some bad luck this season
00:02:43and pushing himself towards it.
00:02:44But it was Krishmini yesterday in qualifying.
00:02:46What, actually, yesterday? This morning?
00:02:48Yesterday.
00:02:49We've had so many sessions, Chris, sorry.
00:02:51Krishmini was the man.
00:02:52I mean, it's quite nice when you're a driver
00:02:54and you have a whole second bracket to yourself.
00:02:56The only driver in the 28s, just a 28.89,
00:03:00but still shows how much pace he had in that ART car.
00:03:03He was fastest in the middle sector in practice,
00:03:07didn't feature towards the top of the timetables
00:03:09after not putting the sectors together,
00:03:11but then was able to convert that in qualifying.
00:03:13And he'll be looking to move forward from 10th on the grid
00:03:15to score some points today in the sprint race.
00:03:18Absolutely so.
00:03:19Here's the full 22 car field for you.
00:03:22We'll start at the back of the grid.
00:03:24And it's been a really disappointing weekend for Mario Boyer.
00:03:27He's really struggled, had a big crash down at turn one
00:03:30on the opening day in free practice.
00:03:32There's Fatoma Miata next to him.
00:03:33Then Roman Belinsky is going to be on row 10
00:03:36with Kian Shields for AIX Racing.
00:03:39Just ahead of that, Colton Herter,
00:03:41his second FP1 appearance yesterday for Cadillac.
00:03:44He's alongside Alex Dunn.
00:03:45The first time he's not qualified on the front two rows.
00:03:48Nico Verone is on row 8 with Emerson Fittipaldi.
00:03:52Nico Verone making his debut at this circuit.
00:03:55John Bennett is on row 7 with Oli Gertha,
00:03:58who is 8th in the Spa sprint race.
00:04:00Then we have Rafael Villegomez next on row 6.
00:04:03He finished P6 in the feature race at Spa.
00:04:05Martilius Stenchon next to him.
00:04:07Took a double win in Freca here a few years ago.
00:04:10Kishmine took that second pole position.
00:04:12We'll start there for the feature race tomorrow.
00:04:14Rafa Kamara next to him, third in the standings.
00:04:17Noel Leon comes next, back in the top 10 in quali
00:04:19after a couple of rounds out of it.
00:04:21Joshua Dirksen won the sprint race at Spa last time out.
00:04:24Son of Paul in Chapuvuzak is on row 3.
00:04:27Took his first podium at Spa.
00:04:28Lawrence Van Hoopen, his first top 10 quali since Canada.
00:04:31Nikola Solov is on row 2 with Dino Beganovic
00:04:35looking to get a first win for Dans this season.
00:04:37And then we have Gavrieli Mini,
00:04:39who won the Miami feature race this year.
00:04:42He won the F3 sprint race at Hungary in 2023.
00:04:47Sebastian Montoya next to him,
00:04:49the third time he starts on sprint race pole,
00:04:52looking to take his first win in Formula 2.
00:04:55Looking forward to this one, Chris.
00:04:56I think the launch off the line and that run through turn 1, 2 and 3
00:05:00is going to be the decisive factor.
00:05:02Overtaking, not particularly easy.
00:05:04But another variable to throw in is the fact that we have
00:05:07very, very high track temperatures here today.
00:05:1049 degrees and rising.
00:05:1325 degrees air temperature,
00:05:15so a bit of a physical challenge for the drivers as well
00:05:17as they push these cars 2, 3, 4,
00:05:20sometimes nudging 5 degrees, 5 Gs of cornering force.
00:05:24But looking forward to seeing how it all plays out at the start.
00:05:27You see Dino Beganovic, third place for him.
00:05:30Can he get another sprint race podium consecutively?
00:05:33We caught up with the top three after qualifying yesterday.
00:05:36Let's start from hearing.
00:05:37Dino Beganovic starting P3.
00:05:41The plan is to have a very good start.
00:05:43Going to T1 fighting for the lead
00:05:45and then take it from there.
00:05:48It's hard to expect anything.
00:05:50It's F2.
00:05:51So I think you can't really predict anything.
00:05:54One second, we just try to get a start.
00:05:56See where we are after that.
00:05:58Try to manage our tires as best as possible
00:06:00and attack whenever we have the opportunity.
00:06:03So it's always the same thing, let's say,
00:06:05but the outcome can be different.
00:06:07So we just do our best.
00:06:09Obviously, it's going to be our third time
00:06:10starting from Paul for the sprint race.
00:06:12I think in Red Bull Ring,
00:06:13we had a really good chance of winning
00:06:14and then a late virtual safety car
00:06:16kind of flipped it the other way.
00:06:17In Spa, we did have some issues with the car
00:06:19in the sprint race that we realized later
00:06:22compromised our race quite a bit.
00:06:24But yeah, I think for this weekend,
00:06:26I think we have a lot more potential in the car,
00:06:28more like Red Bull Ring, not so much like Spa.
00:06:29I feel a lot more confident in what we've been doing.
00:06:33And I think we have kind of the right idea
00:06:35for what we need in the race.
00:06:38Sebastian Montoya just missing out on the victory
00:06:42at the Red Bull Ring sprint race.
00:06:44Since then, he's not been in the points.
00:06:45Lost out on the last lap to John Bennett.
00:06:49Nikola Solov will just be looking to try
00:06:52and take advantage of this road to start.
00:06:54Rafa Kamra is going to be on the front road tomorrow.
00:06:56So for him, good opportunity to just try
00:06:58and extend his gap in the championship going into tomorrow.
00:07:01Yeah, I think Rafa Kamra starting ninth place
00:07:03will probably be just trying to stay out of trouble.
00:07:05He knows that tomorrow he's got a few places
00:07:07ahead of his championship rival in Solov.
00:07:10So we'll be trying to just stay out of trouble in this one
00:07:12because if there's any issues and penalties
00:07:14and then he doesn't get to finish this race,
00:07:15he'll have to take a penalty forward to tomorrow's race.
00:07:18Solov, on the other hand, he's got the gap
00:07:20and he's up there in the championship, isn't he?
00:07:22He's got a bit of a gap to Kamra.
00:07:23We know he's got the pace that Kampos car is always so strong
00:07:27when it comes to tyre degradation races as well.
00:07:30So he might be a little bit more racy at the start of this one,
00:07:32potentially seeing the drivers ahead of maybe Beganovic,
00:07:36potentially Montoya as a bit of low-hanging fruit
00:07:38that he thinks he can pick off in this race
00:07:39and potentially just give himself a bit of a points boost
00:07:42ahead of tomorrow's feature.
00:07:44There's a lot to play for in this, a lot of different tactics,
00:07:46a lot of different drivers having different outlooks
00:07:47and approaches to the race.
00:07:48But ultimately, you can have a plan.
00:07:51When the lights go out, nothing plans go out the window.
00:07:54Absolutely.
00:07:55And the other driver in that top three in the standings,
00:07:5736 points between the Mini, 27 back from Solov in second,
00:08:01starts P2.
00:08:02This is a great opportunity to take points out of Nikola Solov
00:08:05in that championship.
00:08:06So he will be charging down towards that first corner,
00:08:09looking to go straight in the lead ahead of Sebastian Montoya.
00:08:14This round nine of the Formula 2 season,
00:08:17this your sprint race, 28 laps coming up.
00:08:20To the left of screen is Gabriele Mini.
00:08:22To the right, your pole sitter, Sebastian Montoya.
00:08:24And we are go here at the Hungaring.
00:08:26Who gets the better launch of the line?
00:08:28It looks like a better start for Gabriele Mini there,
00:08:31but they've been swamped by the drivers on road two and three.
00:08:35And Sebastian Montoya, will he hold on to the lead?
00:08:37He's got Nikola Solov trying to go to the outside,
00:08:40the Red Bull junior.
00:08:41Oh, we've got one of the Alpine juniors.
00:08:43I think that might have been Alex Dunn running wide
00:08:45in the background, down towards Hamilton corner now.
00:08:49Gabriele Mini trying to go around the outside
00:08:51and Joshua Dirksen in the yellow Invicta
00:08:53comes sliding wide through the second corner,
00:08:56down through three.
00:08:56It's Montoya leading with Mini in second.
00:08:59There was cars left, right and centre
00:09:00all the way down the field,
00:09:01but somehow everyone managing to get through
00:09:03looked like without contact as well.
00:09:05Nine astern, we head through turn four,
00:09:07newly named Mansell.
00:09:09Now we've got Noel Leon having a little sniff
00:09:11up the inside there of Dirksen after he went wide at two
00:09:13and then Stenshawn trying around the outside
00:09:16and absolutely getting refused.
00:09:18Montoya just trying to get a little bit of a gap over Mini.
00:09:21The DRS zones will be active after one lap of racing.
00:09:25Nico Verone in the orange and black van Amersfoort
00:09:27nearly running wide.
00:09:28There's Noel Leon now side by side
00:09:30with Joshua Dirksen making their run
00:09:33up towards turn 11, which is coming up here.
00:09:35This turn 10 now towards turn 11 now
00:09:38and you can see the gap.
00:09:40Montoya, it may not have been the best launch
00:09:42off the line for either of the drivers
00:09:43on the front row there,
00:09:45but Montoya's had a very good second sector
00:09:47and he's built up a gap already.
00:09:48It was a good enough start to allow Montoya
00:09:51to place his car where he wanted
00:09:52and then got a good run through two.
00:09:53It's all on the inside.
00:09:54Verone having a look on the back there
00:09:56for the back, looking at the back of the field.
00:09:59Belinsky's not had the weekend he wanted so far.
00:10:00He's dropped down and is now currently
00:10:02in last place, 22nd.
00:10:04Goethe in the orange MP car there.
00:10:06Actually, on paper, the best driver
00:10:08of the returning drivers last season.
00:10:10At ninth, second and ninth,
00:10:12he was in qualifying sprint and feature.
00:10:14So he was consistently in the point.
00:10:16Oh, up the inside, late move from our pole sitter,
00:10:19Maini doesn't get it done
00:10:20and may well be under pressure from Dirksen now.
00:10:22Yeah, Intra Poubizaki was trying to go past
00:10:24in the ART there, but has dropped back
00:10:27and it's a 1.5 second lead for Montoya over Maini.
00:10:32Is Maini just holding back
00:10:34and trying to play the long game in this race?
00:10:37We heard him speaking about that before the race.
00:10:40He knows it's going to be a long way to go
00:10:42in this one.
00:10:43Montoya, meanwhile, has decided
00:10:45to get his foot down from the off.
00:10:47DRS now enabled.
00:10:48They'll have that down to turn 12,
00:10:50down to turn one and to turn two as well.
00:10:53As we have a look from the drone
00:10:54of them charging up towards each game.
00:10:56Yeah, I think you might be right there, Chris.
00:10:58That Maini may be thinking ahead.
00:10:59He knows Solov's right behind him.
00:11:01Either he can see him,
00:11:02well, he will be able to see him,
00:11:03the only Red Bull liveried car on the grid.
00:11:04But also, I'm sure the MP team
00:11:07will have been over the radio
00:11:08to let Maini know that his direct championship rivals
00:11:10had a good start and is with him.
00:11:12We saw, didn't we,
00:11:13when that battle between Maini and Solov,
00:11:15the championship titans side by side,
00:11:17it was Solov that got one over on Maini,
00:11:19but it was at the late race pace, wasn't it?
00:11:21Maini just didn't quite have the tyre.
00:11:22So maybe Maini's already thinking
00:11:23towards the end of this one.
00:11:25And ultimately,
00:11:26it's only a two-point swing position-wise
00:11:29between the two
00:11:29if they swap positions in this sprint race.
00:11:31However, every point counts
00:11:33towards the end of the season.
00:11:35Lovely view here
00:11:36as the cars make their way
00:11:37towards the final corner.
00:11:38Points go to your top eight in this one.
00:11:39You get ten for the win.
00:11:41One point for P.A.
00:11:42Point for the fastest lap
00:11:43within the top ten as well.
00:11:45Across the line,
00:11:46we go one more time
00:11:48and it's Gabriele Maini
00:11:49who sets the fastest lap of the race.
00:11:51So maybe was just holding back
00:11:54a little bit there.
00:11:55He's got Solov behind him
00:11:56and then it's Viganovic in fourth place.
00:11:58Van Hoopen in fifth.
00:11:59Camera in P6
00:12:00in the yellow in Victor there
00:12:02has moved forward
00:12:03at the start of the race.
00:12:04Yeah, we're heading through turn two now.
00:12:06It's the corner that
00:12:07you can go inside and outside
00:12:09if you get a good run out of turn one.
00:12:10They head uphill.
00:12:11Montoya still maintaining that gap
00:12:13at over a second and a bit,
00:12:14meaning he'll feel a little bit
00:12:16less under pressure
00:12:16than he would if there was DRS,
00:12:18the main overtaking opportunity
00:12:20we've seen in years gone by.
00:12:21Down towards turn one,
00:12:22which Kushmine tried to do
00:12:24a few laps ago,
00:12:24locked up and went wide,
00:12:25showing us maybe the jeopardy
00:12:27if you don't quite get it right.
00:12:29And that lockup may well hurt
00:12:30Maini towards the end of this race.
00:12:32I think things settling down
00:12:33because everyone knows
00:12:34they've got a long way to go
00:12:36on these tyres.
00:12:37Only lap three of 28 right now
00:12:39and track temperature rising
00:12:4054 degrees now, Chris.
00:12:43Yeah, it really is.
00:12:45And Maini now starting
00:12:46to take chunks out of the lead
00:12:47of Montoya,
00:12:48who I think has responded
00:12:49to the same tactic here
00:12:51and is just starting
00:12:53to look after those tyres.
00:12:55Meanwhile, is Solov doing the same here?
00:12:57He's got Beganovic
00:12:57all over the back of him.
00:12:59Van Hooten there next in fifth.
00:13:01Good to see him back
00:13:02qualifying in the top ten as well.
00:13:04He showed really good pace
00:13:05at the start of the season
00:13:07and then we have Kamara in P6.
00:13:09On board we ride
00:13:10with Dino Beganovic
00:13:11coming through the final corner
00:13:12onto the star finish straight.
00:13:14Now lap four of 28,
00:13:16so a long way to go in this race
00:13:18and if you didn't watch
00:13:19the Formula 3 race earlier,
00:13:21we won't score the result for you,
00:13:22but we did see that tyre wear
00:13:24was a factor
00:13:25and drivers towards the end of the race
00:13:27were starting to make big progress
00:13:29had they been patient throughout.
00:13:31Yeah, and we saw the opposite as well.
00:13:32We saw drivers who were rapid at the start
00:13:34and then fell away towards the end as well
00:13:36and that was in a shorter race
00:13:37with much lower track temperatures.
00:13:40We rode on board with Dino Beganovic
00:13:42who was quite sedate through turn 14.
00:13:45We'll come back to that in a moment
00:13:46as we have a look back at the start here.
00:13:48You can see water being ejected out
00:13:50the rear of Solov's car
00:13:51as he was stationary on the grid
00:13:52such as the heat of the cars
00:13:54right on the temperature limit.
00:13:55Then we went down towards someone
00:13:56three wide.
00:13:57On the right-hand side of the shot
00:13:58we had Van Hooten who had to back out.
00:14:00Solov went to the outside,
00:14:01got clean out on his front wing,
00:14:02that allowed him to get alongside
00:14:04the Alpine junior
00:14:05but couldn't quite have the run on the exit.
00:14:07Let's run on board with Beganovic,
00:14:09his view from third place on the grid.
00:14:11You can see pretty even start actually
00:14:13from most of the drivers
00:14:13apart from Solov.
00:14:14Solov was the best start
00:14:15on the front two rows
00:14:16along with Van Hooten
00:14:17who swallowed him up on the inside.
00:14:19Then up to the inside
00:14:20looking for an opportunity
00:14:21but dusty you can see there.
00:14:23Went through turn one.
00:14:25Traction, important hour one
00:14:27then side-by-side run
00:14:28we went down towards turn two
00:14:30like how dusty it is offline.
00:14:31Let's have a jump on board Van Hooten.
00:14:32Yeah, so Van Hooten here
00:14:34you can see that
00:14:35he made a good start off the line
00:14:37didn't he?
00:14:37Now he's picking up the toe
00:14:38from Montoya ahead
00:14:39and three wide at this point
00:14:40Piers going down to turn one.
00:14:41I think this shows
00:14:42how important the launch is
00:14:43but also your positioning
00:14:44down towards turn one
00:14:45because Van Hooten
00:14:46was actually looking for third place
00:14:47but then not really able
00:14:49to hold on to that
00:14:50once he went through turn two
00:14:51and three
00:14:52is because he was
00:14:52shuffled to the outside
00:14:53but that initial gap
00:14:55that Montoya had pulled out
00:14:57has been eroded by Mini.
00:14:58He's jumped away from Solov
00:15:00and towards Montoya
00:15:01at the front of the field.
00:15:01Maybe Mini deciding
00:15:02that a couple of laps
00:15:03of easy into the tyres
00:15:05now means he's unable
00:15:06to push and try
00:15:07and get a car
00:15:07between himself
00:15:08and his direct championship
00:15:09rival in third.
00:15:11Yeah, we've got people
00:15:12being very patient
00:15:13in this race
00:15:14already, haven't we?
00:15:16Gabriele Mini now
00:15:16starting to close in
00:15:17on Montoya.
00:15:18I don't think that's really
00:15:19due to a full lack of pace
00:15:21from Montoya.
00:15:22I just think that Mini
00:15:24has now started
00:15:25to try and use the tyres
00:15:26a little bit more
00:15:27but still a long way to go
00:15:28and all of a sudden
00:15:29he's just dropped
00:15:30around half a second there,
00:15:31didn't he, Gabriele Mini
00:15:32and has decided to
00:15:33just give himself
00:15:34a little bit more space
00:15:35over Montoya once again.
00:15:37Solov, meanwhile, with that
00:15:38has now got the DRS
00:15:40of Gabriele Mini.
00:15:41Let's check back in
00:15:42with the pole sitter
00:15:43for tomorrow,
00:15:44Cushmine.
00:15:44Rafa, it's Joshua Dirksen,
00:15:46isn't it, next along
00:15:47behind him,
00:15:49the second of the
00:15:50yellow Invictors,
00:15:51fighting over the last
00:15:53point here for 8th place.
00:15:55Here, Dirksen,
00:15:55two positions down
00:15:56from his starting spot.
00:15:58Mini, sorry,
00:15:59yeah, Gabriele Mini
00:16:00in second fell off
00:16:01the back of Montoya
00:16:02after a poor first sector
00:16:04and not a great middle sector.
00:16:05Do you think that
00:16:06that's intentional?
00:16:07Well, I was thinking
00:16:08actually that,
00:16:09I was about to say
00:16:10that almost all of these
00:16:11drivers, especially
00:16:12in the top few positions,
00:16:13at this stage of the race
00:16:13are choosing their pace.
00:16:15They have more.
00:16:16They could take more
00:16:16out of the tyre
00:16:17if they wanted to,
00:16:18but they're choosing
00:16:18to keep a bit of tyre,
00:16:21keep a bit of tyre
00:16:22for later in the race
00:16:23because that's when
00:16:24it's going to be
00:16:24more important.
00:16:25But I think this lap
00:16:26from Mini,
00:16:27I don't think he would
00:16:27have chosen
00:16:28to fall that far away
00:16:29from Montoya
00:16:30at the front of the field
00:16:31that aggressively
00:16:32and also put himself
00:16:33under pressure
00:16:33from Solov in third.
00:16:34So potentially a mistake
00:16:36that we didn't quite see
00:16:37from the camera shots
00:16:38that we had
00:16:38or maybe just a couple
00:16:42of smaller errors
00:16:43combining.
00:16:44Interesting.
00:16:45When we rode on board
00:16:46with Viganovic
00:16:46a couple of laps ago
00:16:47on the exit
00:16:48of turn 40
00:16:49in the last corner,
00:16:50we saw how patient
00:16:51he was on both the steering,
00:16:52just coaxing it
00:16:53into the corner.
00:16:53Same on the power.
00:16:54He was really just gently
00:16:56pulling the power down.
00:16:57No movement of the wheel
00:16:58on the exit of the corner.
00:16:59As we see in qualifying,
00:17:00they're impatient
00:17:01to get into the apex.
00:17:02They're impatient
00:17:02to get to power
00:17:03because they're trying
00:17:04to extract all the tyre's
00:17:05performance in one go.
00:17:06Whereas at this stage
00:17:07of the race,
00:17:08they really want to just
00:17:09give the tyre a nice time,
00:17:10not slide it,
00:17:11not oversteer,
00:17:12not have a big understeer moment,
00:17:14not lock up,
00:17:14not get wheel spin
00:17:15because a couple of
00:17:16wheel spin moments
00:17:17in the first few laps
00:17:18can literally mean
00:17:19tenths of a second slower
00:17:20on the last few laps,
00:17:22which can mean
00:17:22multiple positions lost.
00:17:24This is the kind of thing
00:17:25the drivers do
00:17:25pre-season testing
00:17:27and on the sim
00:17:27all the time.
00:17:28Race runs,
00:17:29if you're like,
00:17:29go out there for 28 laps
00:17:31and just try and make sure
00:17:32your pace towards
00:17:33the end of the race
00:17:34is very good.
00:17:35Yeah, absolutely, Chris.
00:17:36You're completely right.
00:17:37These drivers and teams
00:17:38all use the simulators
00:17:39at their team's bases
00:17:41extensively
00:17:41to try and get
00:17:42their techniques right,
00:17:43to try and get the tyre
00:17:44preparation for qualifying,
00:17:45but they will also
00:17:46make sure that they
00:17:48use the Pirelli tyre
00:17:49in the way that it needs to
00:17:50to get to the end
00:17:51of one of these feature races
00:17:52because it's all about
00:17:53overall race time.
00:17:54There's no point
00:17:54setting the fastest lap
00:17:55on lap two
00:17:56if then your overall race time
00:17:57is going to be
00:17:58ten seconds slower
00:17:58because you're going to be
00:17:59way down the field
00:18:00because, you know,
00:18:01ten seconds from the lead
00:18:02would take you out
00:18:02pretty much out
00:18:03of the top ten
00:18:04at this stage.
00:18:04What are the main points
00:18:05to that then
00:18:06to just have a look
00:18:08if we're going to have a move?
00:18:09Yes, we are.
00:18:10Cushminey,
00:18:11so ART on ART here.
00:18:14Sanapu Inciapuvasak
00:18:14holding on
00:18:15as they head down
00:18:16to Hamilton corner.
00:18:18Cushminey having
00:18:19another look
00:18:20at his teammate there,
00:18:21but they're all
00:18:22in a bit of a DRS train,
00:18:23aren't they,
00:18:24right now,
00:18:24all the way
00:18:24up to the leader
00:18:26pretty much.
00:18:27But what are the main elements
00:18:28to saving the tyre
00:18:29throughout a race like this?
00:18:30With these Pirelli tyres,
00:18:32it's purely about
00:18:32keeping the tyre,
00:18:34pushing the tyre
00:18:35so that you're not leaving
00:18:36lap time on the table
00:18:37unnecessarily,
00:18:37but not having
00:18:38any unnecessary slides.
00:18:40So no big wheel spin moments,
00:18:42no lock-ups,
00:18:42no big understeer moments.
00:18:43You're really
00:18:44coaxing the car
00:18:45up to the limit of grip
00:18:47but not going over
00:18:48beyond it
00:18:49and going beyond
00:18:49the slip angle
00:18:50that the tyre likes
00:18:51because as soon as you start
00:18:52scrubbing the tyre
00:18:53across the road,
00:18:54having oversteer moments
00:18:55and sliding the car,
00:18:56the temperature
00:18:56shoots through the roof
00:18:57and then you get
00:18:58what they call
00:18:58thermal degradation
00:18:59where the tyre
00:19:00just doesn't have the grip
00:19:01towards the end of a run,
00:19:02it falls away
00:19:03aggressively at the end.
00:19:04At the moment,
00:19:05it looks like
00:19:05we're having a bit
00:19:06of an ebb and flow
00:19:07of Mini
00:19:08sort of forward
00:19:09to Montoya,
00:19:09then he dropped
00:19:10back to Solov,
00:19:10now he's back
00:19:11on the tail of Montoya
00:19:12and if Mini
00:19:13can get past Montoya
00:19:14at this stage,
00:19:15I think it might
00:19:15help his race
00:19:16because when you've
00:19:16got clean air,
00:19:18clear air,
00:19:18cooler air as well
00:19:19on the front of your car,
00:19:21it just helps
00:19:21keep those tyre
00:19:23temperatures down
00:19:23and also when you've
00:19:24got clean air
00:19:25on the front wing,
00:19:26it means your front tyre
00:19:26slide across the road
00:19:27a little bit less as well
00:19:28so potentially
00:19:29maybe seeing
00:19:30an attempted move
00:19:31from Mini
00:19:31and you can see
00:19:32the little jink
00:19:32to the right there
00:19:33and then a jink
00:19:34back to the left
00:19:34says to me
00:19:35that Montoya
00:19:35feels under pressure.
00:19:36Yeah,
00:19:36Gabriele Mini,
00:19:37this is the closest
00:19:38he has been
00:19:38since the start
00:19:39of the race
00:19:40and looks to the outside
00:19:41coming down
00:19:42towards the first corner,
00:19:44Montoya
00:19:44just cutting off
00:19:45any switchback moves there
00:19:47and now he'll have
00:19:48the DRS once again
00:19:49down towards
00:19:50the second corner
00:19:50and Mini is going
00:19:51to take it
00:19:52around the outside
00:19:53of Montoya
00:19:54but Montoya
00:19:54defending
00:19:55and now Mini
00:19:56right up behind him
00:19:57as they charge down
00:19:58through turn three.
00:19:59I thought we were
00:19:59going to see a move
00:20:00around the outside
00:20:00from Gabriele Mini
00:20:01there,
00:20:01we've seen that
00:20:02many, many times
00:20:02it's off camber
00:20:03and downhill
00:20:04which means you
00:20:04don't need to make
00:20:05the apex for the best
00:20:06time so there's more
00:20:07grip around the outside
00:20:08than most corners
00:20:09but not this time
00:20:10Gabriele Mini
00:20:11choosing to slot
00:20:11back in
00:20:12but I think
00:20:12he's going to have
00:20:13another go if he can
00:20:14next time by
00:20:15to try and again
00:20:16put that car of the
00:20:17primer of Montoya
00:20:18in between himself
00:20:19and Solov.
00:20:20all the while
00:20:20Solov is looking
00:20:21at this going
00:20:21Gabriele you're
00:20:23burning your tyres
00:20:23up, I'm going to
00:20:24catch you later
00:20:24in the race.
00:20:25Yeah, exactly that
00:20:27and the gap is now
00:20:28coming to within a
00:20:29second and there'll
00:20:29be conversations
00:20:30between the
00:20:31engineers.
00:20:41Exactly that from
00:20:43Maini isn't it
00:20:44that they're just
00:20:44saying to him
00:20:45we've got a long
00:20:46way to go in this
00:20:46race and that's
00:20:47exactly what we've
00:20:47been talking about
00:20:48with Montoya and
00:20:49Mini and I'm sure
00:20:50it's going to be the
00:20:50same for Mini
00:20:52there, he'll be
00:20:53speaking with the
00:20:53engineer, figuring
00:20:54out their plan
00:20:55for the race
00:20:56likewise Montoya
00:20:57do we attack now
00:20:58do we wait
00:20:58what's the strategy
00:20:59going forward?
00:21:00We're only at
00:21:01one-third distance
00:21:01aren't we really
00:21:02Chris and the
00:21:03ART team saying
00:21:05to Maini looks
00:21:06you know you
00:21:07don't need to
00:21:07attack Inter
00:21:09Pupazak at this
00:21:10stage and Mini
00:21:11feels like he's
00:21:12got more pace but
00:21:12Inter Pupazak is
00:21:13basically managing
00:21:14his tyres just
00:21:14like everyone else
00:21:15so the ART team
00:21:17saying look you
00:21:17know we've got
00:21:18good pace we know
00:21:19the car's good
00:21:19you were fastest
00:21:20in qualifying
00:21:20Inter Pupazak was
00:21:22right there as
00:21:22well just wait
00:21:23until everyone
00:21:24else's tyres start
00:21:25to fall away and
00:21:26then maybe you'll
00:21:26be able to
00:21:27utilise that pace
00:21:28the underlying pace
00:21:29of our car later
00:21:30in the race but
00:21:31it's you so badly
00:21:33want to push hard
00:21:33your whole you know
00:21:35racing career you're
00:21:36used to pushing on
00:21:36the absolute limit
00:21:37you've come from
00:21:38qualifying which is
00:21:39when these drivers
00:21:39were last out in
00:21:40anger and they were
00:21:41absolutely ringing the
00:21:42neck of these
00:21:43Formula 2 cars and
00:21:44now you have to
00:21:44tiptoe them around
00:21:45for the start of the
00:21:46race in these high
00:21:47track temperatures it
00:21:47feels like oh I
00:21:48could pass all these
00:21:49cars in the next
00:21:50four laps but if you
00:21:51did that they'd all
00:21:52pass you back a few
00:21:52laps later.
00:21:53this is crucial stuff
00:21:54for them getting
00:21:55ready for what is
00:21:56next going all the
00:21:58way to the top in
00:21:59Formula 1 this is why
00:22:00these races are so
00:22:01crucial particularly
00:22:02tomorrow where we
00:22:03will have compulsory
00:22:04pit stops where
00:22:05they'll not just be
00:22:06using this medium
00:22:06tyre but also the
00:22:08soft tyre as well
00:22:09now they don't have
00:22:10to pit in this race
00:22:11Piers but should we
00:22:12get a safety car
00:22:13late in the race
00:22:14someone like Alex
00:22:15Dan will think
00:22:16you know what let's
00:22:17just throw the soft
00:22:17tyres on and see
00:22:18if we can come
00:22:18through only one
00:22:20position to gain so
00:22:21do it when you're
00:22:22sure to do it.
00:22:23Scrappy.
00:22:26Once again good
00:22:27communication from the
00:22:29MP team to Gabriele
00:22:31Mini we heard it
00:22:32didn't we in
00:22:32Silverstone really
00:22:33with the lead saying
00:22:34you know you seem
00:22:36nervous calm it down
00:22:37you've got this
00:22:38ultimately on that
00:22:39day Solov was just
00:22:40a bit too good and
00:22:41took that victory but
00:22:42Gabriele tried once
00:22:45around turn two
00:22:46couldn't get it done
00:22:47what they're saying
00:22:48basically is they
00:22:48they don't want
00:22:49Gabriele Mini to
00:22:50try a half-hearted
00:22:52move or a move that
00:22:52is low percentage
00:22:53because every time he
00:22:54does that he takes
00:22:55more out of his tyres
00:22:56he slows himself and
00:22:58Montoya down all the
00:22:59while taking time out
00:23:00of his tyres and
00:23:01allows them to catch
00:23:02up.
00:23:02They want Gabriele
00:23:03to get within DRS
00:23:05and do one decisive
00:23:06move get through and
00:23:08then run away from
00:23:08the rest of the
00:23:09field.
00:23:09He's done another
00:23:10fastest lap so I
00:23:12think the plan is to
00:23:13get past Sebastian
00:23:14Montoya now as
00:23:15quickly as possible
00:23:17but Solov still
00:23:18there within one and a
00:23:19half seconds behind
00:23:20could very easily
00:23:21close that gap right
00:23:23down.
00:23:23This is going to be
00:23:24one of those races
00:23:25where you have to
00:23:27stick with us.
00:23:27I think it's going to
00:23:28be a case of who
00:23:29has the most tyres
00:23:30left towards the end
00:23:31and we could see a
00:23:33one and a half second
00:23:33gap come down within
00:23:34one or two laps very
00:23:36very quickly.
00:23:37So Gabriele Mini
00:23:39already I think will
00:23:40be planning that move
00:23:41here at turn one if
00:23:42he's going to do it
00:23:43next time around.
00:23:43Yeah he's going to be
00:23:44trying to set himself
00:23:45up to be close enough
00:23:46to get DRS down this
00:23:47new DRS zone towards
00:23:49turn 12 Schumacher
00:23:50corner to then keep
00:23:51himself close through
00:23:52turns 13 and 14.
00:23:55He'll be trying to
00:23:56duck out of the
00:23:56direct line or direct
00:23:58path of Montoya to get
00:23:59some air on his front
00:24:00wing so he can carry the
00:24:01speed through these
00:24:01final two corners and
00:24:03then get a good exit
00:24:04out of him to then
00:24:05give himself close
00:24:06enough that he has to
00:24:09either into a defensive
00:24:10move at turn one for a
00:24:11cutback or catch
00:24:12Montoya off guard and
00:24:13actually poor exit out
00:24:14of the last corner we
00:24:15saw Montoya run wide
00:24:16Dutch being kicked up
00:24:17this may be an
00:24:18opportunity for Mini.
00:24:19Mini is getting closer
00:24:20will this be the lap?
00:24:22He goes for it no not
00:24:23quite close enough so
00:24:24stays behind for the
00:24:26time being here we see
00:24:27the ART teammates to
00:24:29Sanapol in Chapuvasak
00:24:30really great podium
00:24:31finish for him last
00:24:33time out not just for
00:24:34him but he talked about
00:24:35the amount of support
00:24:36he got back home from
00:24:38Thailand and from Alex
00:24:39Albon who was the last
00:24:40Thai driver to get a
00:24:41podium at this level
00:24:43and continuing his good
00:24:45form it's been a good
00:24:46few rounds now we've
00:24:46seen him right up there
00:24:47in the top ten.
00:24:48Yeah Sanapol in Chapuvasak
00:24:49a driver that was strong
00:24:50here in F3 last year as
00:24:52well wasn't he had a good
00:24:53result if I remember
00:24:54rightly he won the
00:24:55sprint race didn't he
00:24:55so it's Herkut he knows
00:24:56and likes as well.
00:24:58Yeah and Lawrence Van
00:24:59Hooppen good to see him
00:25:00there in fifth as well
00:25:01for those of you who
00:25:02weren't with us last
00:25:03week you might have seen
00:25:04the videos even if you
00:25:06didn't see the race it
00:25:06was a huge crash for
00:25:08Lawrence Van Hooppen
00:25:09coming through Malmody
00:25:10where he just got up on
00:25:12the curb and it flipped
00:25:13him across the circuit
00:25:14into the barriers two
00:25:15big crashes for him now
00:25:16this season which no
00:25:18doubt would have just
00:25:19dented his confidence
00:25:20but his season overall
00:25:22and the atmosphere
00:25:23within the team but
00:25:24showing he has the
00:25:25pace once again he's up
00:25:27there in the top five.
00:25:28Yeah Van Hooppen has
00:25:28been impressive at times
00:25:30you know he was right at
00:25:31the front of the field
00:25:31when he had that crash
00:25:32in Montreal wasn't he
00:25:34leading the race yeah
00:25:34yeah of course he was
00:25:35and he's there or
00:25:36thereabouts at the moment
00:25:37fifth place would be
00:25:38picking up points in this
00:25:39race and then you
00:25:40mentioned that crash
00:25:41unfortunately the team
00:25:41having to do a big job
00:25:43to get a different car I
00:25:45believe set up again this
00:25:46weekend with only a few
00:25:47days notice and clearly
00:25:48whatever the Trident team
00:25:50have done to get that car
00:25:51working is working well
00:25:52because he's in a points
00:25:53playing opportunity today
00:25:55and will also go again for
00:25:57another point score again
00:25:58tomorrow in that Trident car
00:25:59Trident really taking a step
00:26:01forward this season haven't
00:26:02they Chris how far a
00:26:03podium would go for them
00:26:04he got their first podium
00:26:08since 2024 and Richard
00:26:09Bishaw got on the podium
00:26:12so this would go a huge
00:26:13way for him if he can come
00:26:14back from having a big
00:26:16crash like he did to then
00:26:18going to get a podium
00:26:19would be absolutely superb
00:26:20for him but Rafa camera
00:26:22still staying quiet isn't
00:26:23he since the start another
00:26:25one who I think is just
00:26:26waiting to the end of the
00:26:27race and we talked about
00:26:28this in in F3 didn't we
00:26:30is you can do more harm
00:26:32than good in a sprint race
00:26:33and Rafa camera in F3 was
00:26:35often very patient and knew
00:26:37that the big points come on
00:26:39raster yeah when you looked
00:26:40at last season's F3
00:26:41championship all of the
00:26:43damage by camera was done
00:26:44in those speech race yeah
00:26:45he did have a few decent
00:26:46results in sprints but
00:26:48actually was far better in
00:26:50the future because that's
00:26:51where the big points are
00:26:52available and as you
00:26:52mentioned Chris a really
00:26:53good way of putting it you
00:26:55can do more damage to your
00:26:56championship challenge in a
00:26:57sprint yeah this is a joke
00:27:00let's see in our race
00:27:01let's see for Piers in our
00:27:02race
00:27:06well in Intrapuva's axe
00:27:07defense he's just as close
00:27:09to camera as Maini is to
00:27:10him so I know it's going to
00:27:13be frustrating for him but
00:27:15Kushmaini we were just
00:27:16talking about it doesn't want
00:27:18to affect his chances of
00:27:20starting on pole position
00:27:21tomorrow which is where he
00:27:22will currently line up but I
00:27:25imagine when you're in the car
00:27:26like that Piers and you know
00:27:27you can go quicker it must
00:27:29get frustrating yeah the
00:27:30language shows in there
00:27:30saying it's a joke it's not
00:27:32because he thinks anything's
00:27:33unacceptable that the even
00:27:34though they're driving at
00:27:35what feels like 90% maybe at
00:27:37this stage keeping the ties
00:27:39and in the in the window
00:27:40they're not you know we're
00:27:41hearing there are roughly
00:27:42about five seconds a lap
00:27:43slower than that we've seen
00:27:44in qualifying which to these
00:27:45drivers feels sedate but
00:27:48Maini even at that pace that
00:27:51the adrenaline is high they
00:27:52know that this is one of the
00:27:53races they know that this is
00:27:54still matters so that the
00:27:56language chosen is maybe not
00:27:57how you would discuss over
00:27:58dinner you know he's
00:28:00frustrated that he wants to
00:28:01move forward he's frustrated
00:28:02that he wants to go faster he
00:28:03clearly feels he's got a bit
00:28:04more pace than his teammate
00:28:05have been through Puba
00:28:06Zack ahead however it would
00:28:08be unwise for the ART team
00:28:10who are currently two drivers
00:28:11inside the top 10 scoring
00:28:13two point scoring finishes to
00:28:14then start fighting amongst
00:28:16each other because let's not
00:28:17forget as much as they are
00:28:18teammates every driver is on
00:28:20this group for themselves
00:28:20they're out there for
00:28:21themselves they they find
00:28:22their own funding to go
00:28:23racing and they choose a team
00:28:25to race with and it's not
00:28:26like in Formula One where
00:28:27you're being paid by the team
00:28:28to race with your teammate
00:28:30you don't have to take team
00:28:31orders but at the same time
00:28:32if you help your teammates
00:28:34sometimes it kind of helps
00:28:35you as well so that's that's
00:28:37the situation they're in at
00:28:38the moment
00:28:39Nikola Solov there in third
00:28:40we are just following him
00:28:41lots of Bulgarian flags
00:28:43around the circuit he always
00:28:45has a huge amount of support
00:28:46wherever he goes doesn't he
00:28:48Nikola Solov particularly at
00:28:49this circuit how impressed
00:28:50have you been with this
00:28:51season Piers?
00:28:52Nikola Solov and Montoya
00:28:52looks like they are
00:28:53suffering now if we do the
00:28:55movement we need to copy to
00:28:56not destroy tyres okay?
00:29:00I'll tell you what we'll come
00:29:01back to that let's talk about
00:29:02what he said first
00:29:03it's pretty much the same
00:29:04message in different words
00:29:05than we heard delivered to
00:29:07Gabriele Mini in second place
00:29:08on the MP team which is
00:29:09basically if you can move
00:29:11forward go for it but it
00:29:12needs to be decisive and it
00:29:13needs to be one clean move
00:29:15that you pass and then get
00:29:17gone because they clearly
00:29:19understand that these tyres
00:29:20pretty tyres if you fight
00:29:21with someone side by side
00:29:22you're hustling with them
00:29:23pushing through corners and
00:29:25you're going offline getting
00:29:26on what is very dusty
00:29:27offline this weekend we've
00:29:28seen dustier than we have
00:29:29done in previous seasons
00:29:31and that's going to hurt you
00:29:32later in the race you may
00:29:33well get the move done there
00:29:35and then but then other
00:29:36drivers who haven't had to
00:29:37do jostling moves and hustle
00:29:39like that will then pass you
00:29:40easily later in the race so
00:29:41it's all a bit of a game of
00:29:42cat and mouse at the moment
00:29:44everyone just just just loading
00:29:46their chips for a big all in
00:29:48at the end absolutely that
00:29:51uh intrapubizac I thought
00:29:52he was dropping back from
00:29:53camera he's sort of on the
00:29:55edge of losing drs if he
00:29:57does so then miney no doubt
00:29:59will make his move or at
00:30:01least attempt to do so and
00:30:03so that's something that
00:30:04intrapubizac has got to be
00:30:05careful with joshua dirkson
00:30:06haven't mentioned too much of
00:30:08him since the start but he's
00:30:09still right there in p9 as
00:30:11well could get inside the
00:30:12points but montoya as we
00:30:14are halfway through the race
00:30:15now controlling things out
00:30:17front so far in this one
00:30:19would have been a very tough
00:30:21one for him to take as good
00:30:22as the podium was to lose out
00:30:24uh the race win on the last
00:30:27lap looking to become the
00:30:28first colombian winner at this
00:30:30level since his father in
00:30:321998 when he went and won the
00:30:34championship that year so this
00:30:36would mean a huge amount to
00:30:37him and the fans in colombia
00:30:39absolutely would mean a huge
00:30:41amount a huge amount to him
00:30:42you know his confidence as
00:30:43well because as much as the
00:30:46drivers don't like to think
00:30:46about it having had two
00:30:48opportunities to go from pole
00:30:49and not convert them it will
00:30:51weigh on montoya he'll want
00:30:52to convert this he'll want to
00:30:53do everything he can it will
00:30:54mean so much to him and it
00:30:56maybe even allow him to take
00:30:57a step forward this season
00:30:58with confidence and and
00:31:00continue on good results how
00:31:01many times have we seen
00:31:02drivers just have a good
00:31:03qualifying and then a good
00:31:04race and it really has a
00:31:06knock-on effect for the
00:31:07remainder of the season
00:31:09one driver i'm looking at
00:31:10chris at the moment that
00:31:11is in a good position rafa
00:31:12camera it's not done a huge
00:31:14amount so far looking pretty
00:31:15comfortable just within drs
00:31:18of van hoopen ahead we know
00:31:20the invictor is good around
00:31:22here won the feature last
00:31:23year didn't we in the hands
00:31:24of four neroli they're off the
00:31:26back of a great weekend as
00:31:27well last time out as well so
00:31:29i think camera might well be
00:31:31one to watch for the end of
00:31:32this race making moves towards
00:31:34the end we've got a bit of
00:31:35aix on aix fighting we have
00:31:37an overtake and kian shields
00:31:39they're just uh locking up
00:31:41down towards the first
00:31:43corner but through he goes
00:31:44on emerson fitipaldi i think
00:31:45it's going to continue down
00:31:46to hamilton corner piece
00:31:47down to hamilton outside
00:31:48can fitipaldi get that one
00:31:50done nope kian shields
00:31:52getting the move done
00:31:53lock the rears then the
00:31:55front but managed to keep
00:31:56it under control and that
00:31:57is for the lower positions
00:31:58in fact that is for 21st and
00:31:5922nd as it stands
00:32:01kian shields and emerson
00:32:02fitipaldi fighting away with
00:32:04each other meanwhile is the
00:32:05move about to be going on
00:32:08for the race lead here
00:32:09sebastian montoya certainly
00:32:10think so he's just taken an
00:32:12ever so subtle slightly
00:32:14defensive line there didn't
00:32:15he in towards the first
00:32:17corner now we go down to
00:32:18hamilton corner drs open for
00:32:21mini getting closer this is
00:32:23the moment is it where he
00:32:24needs to be decisive piers if
00:32:26he's going to make this move
00:32:27yeah the body language of
00:32:28montoya's car there down the
00:32:29start finish straight will be
00:32:30noted by mini he'll note that
00:32:32montoya was trying to break
00:32:34the toe which says to
00:32:35montoya that he says to
00:32:36mini that he feels the
00:32:38pressure up at the front he
00:32:39doesn't want to be passed at
00:32:40this stage of the race if
00:32:41you're closing up to the
00:32:42driver in front and you
00:32:43don't think you're quite
00:32:44close enough to make a
00:32:45move and they don't even
00:32:45flinch it says to you as the
00:32:47driver behind this driver's
00:32:49confident he's preserving his
00:32:50tires he feels like he's got
00:32:51the pace he could do more if
00:32:52he wants i think at this
00:32:53stage montoya is probably at
00:32:55the limit of what he can do or
00:32:56what he can safely do to keep
00:32:58the tires where he needs them to
00:33:00be to get to the end of the
00:33:01race i think mini is now going
00:33:02to start to unleash a bit of
00:33:03pace and continue to apply the
00:33:05pressure to force montoya into
00:33:07either over pushing or making a
00:33:09mistake oh a little bit wide
00:33:12there for joshua dirksen found
00:33:14himself back on the track
00:33:16meanwhile just a few yards down
00:33:19the road from that at this point
00:33:21on the circuit our top two right
00:33:23together here montoya and mini
00:33:25solov you can see the gap
00:33:27constantly going up and down
00:33:28between a second to a second and a
00:33:31half i think tells you what solov's
00:33:32tactic is but this is the closest
00:33:34mini has been coming out the last
00:33:36corner and montoya will he have
00:33:38anything in defense here i'm not
00:33:39sure because mini is right behind
00:33:41him drs wide open to the outside he
00:33:44goes towards turn one and montoya
00:33:46just about holding on no locks up
00:33:48into the first corner door wide
00:33:50open and gabrielle mini steps through
00:33:52it to take the lead of this formula
00:33:54two sprint race and now will have to
00:33:56defend down towards hamilton corner
00:33:58and that is the race lead for mp
00:34:01motorsport driver gabrielle mini and
00:34:03sebastian montoya will be
00:34:04disappointed with himself having
00:34:06that small lock up into turn one
00:34:07mini absolutely taking heed of the
00:34:09advice from his team make one move
00:34:11and make it decisive he was putting
00:34:13the pressure on montoya i mentioned
00:34:15lapago i think he's just going to try
00:34:16and keep the pressure on because an
00:34:17easy move would be a mistake from
00:34:19montoya and montoya defensive towards
00:34:21turn one on the dust locked up that
00:34:23front right tire and then just slid
00:34:24wide of the apex which allowed good
00:34:26traction for mini uh montoya is going
00:34:28to try and keep the pressure on to
00:34:29return the favor but all of that has
00:34:31brought nikola solov into play and i
00:34:33think that's going to be the first
00:34:34domino that falls now with 10 laps to
00:34:36go let's look back at this move for
00:34:38the lead piss yeah here we go inside
00:34:39montoya breaks late then he just goes
00:34:41diagonally to the inside that's not the
00:34:43line where the rubber is everyone in
00:34:46qualifying and up till now has been
00:34:47breaking on the outside of the circuit
00:34:48just overshooting the corner slightly but
00:34:51that was all it was required to allow
00:34:52minnie to come through and now next in the
00:34:54queue is solov solov has seen how minnie's
00:34:57gone through and i'll try and repeat it
00:34:59good boy good boy keep driving clean
00:35:05i think his engineers happy i think to go on your phrase
00:35:08earlier piers i think this is where the chips
00:35:10start going down here nikola solov is now
00:35:13going to be next in queue to try and make
00:35:15that move on montoya and you can see
00:35:16minnie driving fast there out front just
00:35:20trying to put some distance between himself and montoya here comes a big
00:35:23lunge from nikola solov it's almost a repeat of what we saw between these two
00:35:27at la source where solov went down the inside at la source on the final lap to
00:35:32take fourth away from montoya and now montoya of all people this is the driver he
00:35:37does not want behind him not just because of what we saw at spa but he's the championship
00:35:41leader yeah this is now a piranha club behind you could use a phrase that is often used in formula
00:35:47one but i think there's a drop of blood coming weeping from sebastian montoya's car and everyone
00:35:53else can sense that he is prey now doesn't seem to have the pace he can't stay with minnie and
00:35:58you
00:35:58you just gestured to me there chris a slide to turn four says that montoya fighting with the car
00:36:03not only doesn't have the grip but is also going to continue to eat away at those tires if he
00:36:08pushes
00:36:08like he did through there yeah nikola solov now all over the back of him dino beganovich likewise
00:36:15ready to try and go with nikola solov if he's to make a move next time around sebastian montoya
00:36:20just appears to be struggling either that or he's just composing himself again after losing the lead
00:36:26of the race yeah minnie seems like he's got things under control doesn't broken drs but i think again
00:36:31he's just pushing to what he thinks the tires can do but every single one of these drivers in the
00:36:36queue
00:36:36down to solov beganovich van hoopen kamari and moves that all the way down to minnie and dirksen they
00:36:41can all see the train of cars up front they'll either have been told that minnie has gone through
00:36:46on montoya or they will have seen it and when a driver in a queue of cars like this starts
00:36:50to fall
00:36:51backwards once the momentum is falling backwards it's so hard to arrest that momentum and everyone
00:36:55else senses an opportunity as deep on the brakes go solov and we've got side by side between the two
00:37:00arts minnie finally finding a way through after all that frustration i think because intrapubazak
00:37:05dropped off the back of the group ahead he felt he needed to go and he needed to go now
00:37:09yeah and montoya uh lost the drs down the start finish straight that time as well intrapubazak is he
00:37:16going to go around the outside of his teammate no kush minnie holding on to seventh place but now
00:37:21there's a three second gap uh to camera ahead so uh kushmine it's taken a little while for him to
00:37:27make that move and now he's going to have to try and close this gap but that can happen very
00:37:32quickly
00:37:33if things start to kick off up ahead but it's that nine tenth of a second gap i'm keeping an
00:37:37eye on
00:37:37peers on the top left of screen if montoya goes to a second or above then solov can look at
00:37:44trying to
00:37:44use the drs to get by i think it may only be a matter of time but i think that
00:37:48drs is going to be
00:37:49crucial for montoya if we keep an eye on this art versus art battle you can see they have let
00:37:54the
00:37:54rest of the field go but this is our lead battle now solov actually under pressure from vganovich at
00:37:59this stage so vganovich looking a little bit more racy maybe he's been keeping his ties in good
00:38:04condition at this stage solov will not want to be losing a position here again all these drivers in
00:38:09a queue as soon as someone loses a position not only will you then be on the back foot in
00:38:12terms of
00:38:13dirt on your tires and momentum backwards but everyone else will see you've lost a position
00:38:17and see you as a target beganovich very close isn't he in fourth place van hupen behind in fifth
00:38:25looking to try and get on the podium and then we have camera he was third place in the championship
00:38:30mini second so mini just trying to close the gap to solov so he'll be hoping for a bit of
00:38:37assistance
00:38:37from behind from dino beganovich to put more points between himself and solov and we pick up the
00:38:44ferrari driver academy member now ferrari driver chasing red bull driver gabrielle mini fastest lap
00:38:51of the race that last lap felt the need to open the gap a little bit 1.7 is the
00:38:56gap now montoya will
00:38:57not have the advantage of drs to keep him defending ahead now fitipaldi has come into pit lane so i
00:39:05don't
00:39:05know if he's got a technical issue or is he putting soft tires on in my ear i can hear
00:39:10that he is putting
00:39:10soft tires on so no safety car but fitipaldi is going to give it a go here uh in the
00:39:17hope that
00:39:17there is one uh either that or they'll uh be knowing what those soft tires are going to behave like
00:39:23tomorrow on lower fuel that that would be my assumption with fitipaldi basically being last
00:39:28or second last anyway but he did fall down to last after shields ever took him as we saw
00:39:32on the replay i think they're maybe just getting an eye in for tomorrow's race they've got two sets of
00:39:37the uh the option softer compound tire so they can potentially use one just to have a bit of an
00:39:42idea
00:39:42of how it's going to behave so they may well be able to have a better better setup or better
00:39:48preparation for tomorrow's feature where more points are available look at this nose to tail
00:39:52this group now is coming together chris beganovich van hoopen camera mining just off the back as well
00:39:58but i think that's where we're going to see some moves actually now montoya looking in his mirrors
00:40:01you can see they're looking over solo goes for it that's late late move there from solo and too
00:40:05late contact into montoya there montoya looks to be out of the race and nikola solo that was a bit
00:40:13of a bold move in the end and contact with montoya nikola solo we talked about it earlier you can
00:40:19do
00:40:19more harm than good in these races and we have to look back at that one and see whether that
00:40:25will be
00:40:25further investigated with penalties as well and nikola solo well he's certainly done more harm
00:40:31hasn't he because he's got damage to that car and i don't think we'll see him make it around to
00:40:35pit
00:40:35lane yeah we saw suspension damage on montoya's car and suspension damage yeah confirmed there you can
00:40:39see the car not traveling straight it's going to be a bit sketchy into turn four let's have a look
00:40:43at
00:40:43this again he was within diving range but montoya brakes hard and brake diagonally so i've just
00:40:49lent off the brakes and i i i can't see that going any other way than than on solo because
00:40:54montoya
00:40:55didn't do a huge amount wrong here we're actually quite a long way back aren't we chris yeah huge
00:40:59way back nikola solo that's just trying to be too bold and nikola solo i feel a good penalty could
00:41:05be incoming for that one for tomorrow um yeah that was interesting
00:41:13we've seen him do moves from quite far back this season uh one being on this driver here
00:41:19just a week ago at spa and nikola solo i think was just trying to be a little bit too
00:41:25ambitious
00:41:26there sebastian montoya is going to be absolutely furious with that because he was on for a podium
00:41:31finish there and the bad luck just continues for sebastian montoya and championship leader nikola
00:41:38solo was that necessary you have to ask for him it would have come with two extra points but i
00:41:43think
00:41:43he'll look back on that and feel that there was a long way to go in that race and there's
00:41:48a long way
00:41:48to go in this championship yeah and also i think campus are going to be furiously trying to fix this
00:41:53car so they can get him out in this race virtual safety car sorry to cut you off there pierce
00:41:57but they
00:41:57now you cannot uh they're all coming into pit lane to uh throw on the uh throw on the tires
00:42:05but uh
00:42:05you can't pit under vsc but you can be under safety car but interesting to see that we do have
00:42:11drivers coming into the pit lane regardless so uh that's uh one to be looked at but uh drivers are
00:42:18still coming in but uh rules are you can't get under vsc but you can be under the safety car
00:42:25so uh
00:42:25interesting to see that some drivers have just come into pit lane do we reckon that maybe some of the
00:42:30teams reckon because the medium tires have gone away so much that they they will be better off
00:42:35even with a time penalty at the end of the race with that soft tie that would be a big
00:42:39gamble look
00:42:40at the campus team going straight to work they are absolutely going to try and get solo out again
00:42:44because if he gets a penalty a time penalty in this race and he can then go out and serve
00:42:48it then uh
00:42:49then he might be able to not have to take a grid penalty tomorrow of course we haven't had
00:42:54confirmation that solo will receive a penalty but based on the incident we've seen i think that's
00:42:58largely on nikola solo yeah i'd say so let's take a look at the live point standings and you can
00:43:05see
00:43:05that it's 16 points uh and this is another thing it does in terms of the championship as well
00:43:11uh he had one of his championship rivals leading the race so you just have to wonder
00:43:17uh was was that necessary but um but there you go well one thing i will say just to clear
00:43:23that up
00:43:23is compulsory pit stops uh in the feature race uh after six laps and cannot be completed under vsc
00:43:30so uh drivers are coming in under vsc but it's not a compulsory pit stop they need to do so
00:43:35that
00:43:35clears that one up for you yeah car's broken can you jump you can jump out so that means that
00:43:39solo
00:43:40cannot finish this race the car is undrivable which means that if he does receive a penalty which i would
00:43:46say is likely then he's almost certainly going to have to carry a grid penalty tomorrow so a gift in
00:43:51this race to both of his championship rivals of camera and mini and then a gift potentially
00:43:56tomorrow as well as he will start further down the order but anyway we'll talk about the sprint race
00:44:00which is still going on in this one now camera also up two positions don't forget you to that
00:44:05because both montoya and solo have exited this race yeah and the drivers who all came in
00:44:11quite far back and i think just done what you said piers they've just gone for it regardless in the
00:44:17hope that there is maybe another safety car and if not then it's data for them for tomorrow there's
00:44:22your championship leader he can see the driver directly behind him in the championship not just
00:44:27leading the race but with the fastest lap as well and he's going to have to take a trip
00:44:30to the stewards after this race and that could and i imagine will lead to a grid penalty for
00:44:37tomorrow's race as well one of the other championship rivals for him rafa camera now moves himself up to
00:44:43p4 and this is the tactic of just being patient in a sprint race isn't it let the race come
00:44:48to you
00:44:49and you will be rewarded and there's sebastian montoya who i don't think will be very happy with
00:44:55nikola solo walks past his car now yeah just assessing the damage on that one but a real shamer
00:45:04and a possible podium lost for him disappointment understanding me there and uh montoya senior
00:45:14just looking on disappointed but still in good spirits because he know that sebastian ultimately
00:45:19sebastian drove a good race up until that point didn't really do a huge amount wrong small lock
00:45:22up lost the lead but was on for a podium let's keep an eye on this battle here for third
00:45:26place i think
00:45:27that's going to be the one to keep half an eye on well we talked about lawrence van hoopen what
00:45:32a result
00:45:32it would be for him if he can get uh onto the podium and montoya saying that uh that had
00:45:39nothing to do
00:45:39with me i think when pablo montoya has seen enough racing to know that there was nothing really he could
00:45:44do about that one but the battle for the last step on the podium's on here isn't it between
00:45:50lawrence van hoopen and rafa camera and rafa camera i think will his tactic change here because
00:45:55now nikola solov is out of the race he has a chance to get an extra point will could go
00:46:02a long way come
00:46:03the end of the season for him so i think we're going to see him get his elbows out a
00:46:07bit like we
00:46:07saw at spar and try and get after a podium finish and lawrence van hoopen here i think he'll have
00:46:13a go
00:46:13but also he'll want to not repeat what solov's done as well because once you've seen your championship
00:46:18rival slam dunk himself into a penalty you don't want to do this so i say again still to be
00:46:23confirmed
00:46:23there's no it's not been confirmed will be investigated after the race but i think i said
00:46:27it's likely looking that way but i think camera will be thinking you know what i've already got
00:46:32a good position here started ninth out of the points already up to fourth looking at the back of third
00:46:36and i've not had to do a huge amount no leon is now under investigation for a vsc infringement so
00:46:43he's currently in the points but that could change very soon might be given a penalty in this race we'll
00:46:49see he's certainly going to have a go on joshua dirksen whoa big send down the outside at the
00:46:54first corner and joshua dirksen there just trying to defend from him there and now we will be side
00:47:00by side drs open for no leon is going to take it wide and try and go all the way
00:47:05around the outside in
00:47:06fact takes the cut back on dirksen there and just forcing his ways through no leon elbows out stuff for
00:47:12him but that puts him up currently into p7 hard racing there from the both of them that was a
00:47:18battle of the late breakers into turn one leon looked like he got it done but dirksen just rolled
00:47:22off the brakes to make the apex first and got it done let's have a look at it from a
00:47:26different angle
00:47:26we rode on board with leon before let's watch this dirksen jinx to the inside late on the brakes
00:47:31goes no leon small lock up from dirksen but gets ahead at the apex and gets good traction but then
00:47:36it was side by side once again towards turn two hamilton corner we've seen lots of drivers go on
00:47:42the outside there
00:47:42i think he has an argument he does he does but i think at that point like leon was ahead
00:47:54it's a bit
00:47:55of an ambiguity in the rules because dirksen was ahead at the apex but then was running wide no leon
00:48:01was ahead when they got to the exit i would put that down as hard race in my in my
00:48:06opinion
00:48:06but again i'm not so absolutely i think that's a good assessment of it right let's focus back on
00:48:14this no leon has been given a five second time penalty that's just coming up the top of your
00:48:19screen so has to now is in a race with stench on essentially to try and stay in the points
00:48:26which go
00:48:27down to eighth place so you can see the gap between them around three seconds so that one will be
00:48:32monitored by both teams this is the battle for third place overall though we're into the
00:48:36final three laps all of a sudden uh gabriele mini last time around four tenths quicker than dino
00:48:42began of it so has seen the opportunity and taken it all and wide lauren's van hooping there and rafa
00:48:48camera just getting closer and closer now three to go for him to try and make his move to get
00:48:54to p3
00:48:55do you know what's funny is that camera will not only figuratively be able to smell a podium but when
00:49:00someone runs wide like that over the curb and you saw the puffs of smoke from the underside of the
00:49:03car
00:49:03you can genuinely smell the floor of the car burning as it rubs on the ground he'll smell
00:49:07a podium with that mistake as well closer he gets once again towards van hoopen can he get within
00:49:13a drs range and enough to affect a move down towards turn one there's the new drs zone towards
00:49:19schumacher turn 12 again not an overtaking opportunity unless a mistake from the driver
00:49:24ahead but gets you just that little bit closer into 13 and 14 as we head through here it's all
00:49:28about the
00:49:29exit now two or three more goes at it for rafa camera for a podium in the sprint race that
00:49:33would
00:49:33have been unexpected starting in ninth place but what were the drama we've had so far it could still
00:49:38be on wide good exit from van hoopen though gives him a bit of breathing room lauren's van hoopen just
00:49:44looking in his mirrors right and left to see where is rafa camera there is the number one car not
00:49:50attempting a move on van hoopen not close enough but still has two more laps here but knows he does
00:49:57not
00:49:57want to get caught up in an incident like he's seen his championship rival do just a few laps ago
00:50:03and
00:50:03gabriele mini has properly pulled the pin dino biganovic is falling off the cliff here isn't he
00:50:08he is slowly chopping into the clutches of this battle here van hoopen who had he not run wide
00:50:14i think he could be around drs of biganovic right this is your battle for the last point which currently
00:50:21goes to joshua dirksen and no leon is putting a five second gap between himself and dirksen here isn't
00:50:27let's keep an eye on this battle this could be tasty as well looks like the the road in the
00:50:31hands
00:50:31of stenchon's got some good late race pace and john bennett as well because his teammate is in third
00:50:35holding station and bennett clear that trident car is pretty good later on in this race in these hot
00:50:39track conditions vaganovic is a second slower than minnie on that last lap wow minnie's got some
00:50:46minnie's really done well to save his tires the way he has fast drive on the circuit at the moment
00:50:50is
00:50:50shields on a they've come in haven't they yeah they're soft tires so getting uh although they've
00:50:55dropped back the vsc didn't turn into an sc for them but they are getting good data for the feature
00:51:02race tomorrow where they will have to use both sets of tires meanwhile joshua dirksen just heading
00:51:08down towards schumacher corner now stench on right behind him but uh no leon so far is on track
00:51:15to keep that position final lap of the race now coming up gabriele mini just over four seconds
00:51:23clear of beganovic van hoopen almost within drs range of him now it's just about taking it to
00:51:29the line on this one yeah we saw there bennett just wide in turn 13 of center there he just
00:51:33went one car
00:51:34with wyvern then couldn't get back to the apex so so dirty offline now defensive once again goes dirksen
00:51:39we know he's good in defense he got shuffled wide a bit by lon leon earlier turn one got that
00:51:43done
00:51:44we now head towards turn two i think defensive once again dirksen's going to have to go and he does
00:51:48can stench will go all the way around the outside dirksen will have learned something from his battle
00:51:51with leon yeah and joshua dirksen just doing his best here to try and hold off martini stench on who
00:51:57wants that eighth place he wants that final point and he's all over the back of him john bennett
00:52:03ready and waiting in 10th place should things kick off up ahead and then we have verone in 11th place
00:52:10through turn five for the final time in the race things being controlled nicely up front from
00:52:16gabrielle minnie yeah minnie's got this one under wraps now just doesn't need to make a mistake also
00:52:20it looks like leon's right on the back of in through pubis act but not many overtaking opportunities
00:52:24towards the end of this final lap of the race you know no leon just trying to get that five
00:52:29seconds
00:52:29between himself and dirksen well gabrielle minnie a driver that has sometimes been left out of the
00:52:36conversation when we talk about future careers but gabrielle minnie with this result is going to
00:52:41re-enter that conversation as he comes across the line to take the win here at the hungaring for mp
00:52:47motorsport do not forget about the italian he gets closer to the championship leader what a controlled
00:52:54performance from the alpine junior dino biganovic in second and lawrence van hoopen goes from causing a
00:53:01red flag with a huge crash to finishing on the podium just a few days later great driving from
00:53:06the trident driver five second penalty applied for no leon and stench on by three tenths of a second
00:53:12steps inside the points but it's mp motorsport who take victory with gabrielle minnie what a drive
00:53:18what a good management drive got the move done decisively did exactly what the team instructed
00:53:39gabrielle minnie starting on the front row knew that this is going to be the day he'll have to
00:53:44go and take maximum points and he's done just that win and fastest lap takes 11 points out of
00:53:50nicholas solo absolutely that'll be a good day in the office for mp and gabrielle minnie he'll be
00:53:57thinking he's he's driven pretty much the perfect race but he's also fortunate that solo uncharacteristic
00:54:03from solo really isn't it normally he picks his way through so so measuredly he doesn't put himself
00:54:09in too high a risk his his pace is electric he clearly hadn't paced at that stage but it almost
00:54:13looked like a bit of a i wouldn't say desperate because he i don't think he was desperate to go
00:54:17through a bit a bit brash of a move okay good job good job good job good job good job
00:54:25we try to see
00:54:26what we can improve for tomorrow but uh anyway good job it's the first crash we've seen in course
00:54:34really this season he did have that dnf at miami but great drive dino beganovich and how about this
00:54:40driver is lawrence van hoopen third place after what happened at spa that's uh that's going to be a huge
00:54:45reward to the team as well uh who i'm sure have worked very hard and really good stuff from
00:54:50lawrence van hoopen to get a podium lawrence is showing some real resilience this year he's had
00:54:54such a tough year isn't he ups and downs like the absolute soaring highs of you know pole leading the
00:54:59race in in montreal to then crashing out of that race and then we went through a period of tough
00:55:04times
00:55:05the team been helping as much as he could then again we're back up again after a tough weekend and
00:55:11crash again at spa francis so clearly shows that he can put bad times behind him and move forward
00:55:17which is something that you know future people who are making decisions about these young drivers
00:55:22careers will be looking for because ultimately things don't always go your way as we've seen
00:55:25with nikola solov in this race and you need to be able to deal with that and move on and
00:55:29still perform
00:55:39well done gabriele mini uh there's been a lot of talk hasn't there about rafa camera and nikola solov
00:55:46but now today we talk about this driver here gabriele mini in the pink alpine livery he is well and
00:55:54truly in the fight for this championship and for the first time since miami he is going to climb
00:55:59out of his car as a race winner he's sometimes been second best since then but today no one was
00:56:03better than gabriele mini and he is here for the fights for this formula 2 title as he takes his
00:56:09second win of the season how often are championships won not on your best day but on your worst days
00:56:15and
00:56:16not doesn't really have any worse days does he he's just always there or thereabouts only one dnf
00:56:20this year only one other score outside of the points every other time he's well up there and
00:56:25he's been on the podium so so many times takes another win sprint race yes not full grand prix
00:56:30points but who knows he may well have learned enough today that he can take forward to tomorrow
00:56:37just 16 points behind nikola solov well done dino beganovich as well another podium for him we saw
00:56:43him get one last week he's back there again that puts him into the top five of the championship as
00:56:48well yeah great driver dino beganovich another driver that's had to deal with adversity this
00:56:53season he's been so unlucky hasn't he yeah today a bit of luck went his way to allow him to
00:56:57get that
00:56:57podium of course montoya and solo directly ahead were second and third it's now allowed him to be
00:57:03preferred onto the promoted onto the podium but beganovich to be fair to him did look like he had
00:57:07good late race pace looked like he was pushing on could well have been challenging for a podium on
00:57:11outright pace but ultimately you've got to be there uh you're going to be in it to win it haven't
00:57:15you
00:57:15creates what i say win it win a podium yeah dino and gabrielli two drivers who fought each other for
00:57:19the formula regional title back in 2022 lawrence van hoopen took pole here in formula three a couple
00:57:25of years ago and uh put in a great performance after that as well sadly things after the race
00:57:31costing him a good result but uh lawrence van hoopen a podium here for him today and
00:57:37uh of all the podiums he's had this season that's now his third it's been a long time since
00:57:41miami hasn't it and he'll be so glad to be back there gabrielli minnie speaking up miami
00:57:46feature race winner there and now the sprint race winner here absolutely great drive from
00:57:50minnie did pretty much everything he needed to do listen to the team
00:57:53drove a very mature race there we were talking about van hoopen i think also another great result
00:57:58for trident they were last in the team standings last year we've not just saying that they've taken
00:58:03a step forward just based on vibes but they are now pushing their way up the order currently sitting
00:58:08seventh in the team standings that will put them a little bit closer towards the bunch ahead as
00:58:13well yeah you can see what are they just 25 points back from dams things can change really quickly
00:58:19an empty motorsport second place in the team standings and uh largely helped by that man there
00:58:25gabrielli mini well it was a race of patience wasn't it really from from all rounds but uh one at
00:58:34the
00:58:34end where we saw who had done the best work throughout the race yeah it won't go down as uh
00:58:39an all-time
00:58:40formula two race that one however points still equal to any other sprint race that we will see despite
00:58:46it not having the thrills and spills that we sometimes see in the sprint race but ultimately
00:58:50the drivers in the race they were doing the job they needed to do and sometimes you've just got
00:58:54to grind the result out and mini was the one that was the the one that did that the best
00:58:59today because
00:58:59he had to make the move didn't he ultimately he was the one that made the move and got past
00:59:03montoya
00:59:03because who knows if he hadn't have got past montoya as decisively as he did would he have been side
00:59:08by side with solo would we have seen a similar collision would that have changed the championship
00:59:12complexion let's hear from the drivers in the cool down room
00:59:24i lost the car on the rear even though i arrived super slow you went to first
00:59:28you went to first yeah i went to first before losing the car
00:59:34the outside was so dirty mama it was insane mate here it locked a bit
00:59:54okay i mean it was quite visible yeah but i mean my position it was quite visible probably lost it
01:00:01at the
01:00:01in the beginning i don't think he meant to do that but i mean to retire yourself
01:00:05i guess
01:00:06it was for you today
01:00:13a major victory for minnie then congratulations to the italian gabrielli
01:00:17minnie from mp motorsport for his win he's second now in the standings okay don't go
01:00:23anywhere because qualifying for the hungarian grand prix is up next
