00:30I'd say for Colopinto is that final turn today
00:33just looks like such a horrible one to try and combat.
00:37I don't remember that one.
00:38I'm sure we've discussed it in previous years.
00:41What session was it?
00:42I had a faulty floor.
00:44So I...
00:45Didn't you ruin the floor at some point?
00:47Yeah, I went over a curb in FP1 and it obliterated the floor.
00:52So I had a floor stool in FP2
00:55and basically did a bit of that, really.
01:00It wasn't a good day, that's for sure.
01:04FP1, I don't think it was my fault.
01:05I think it was...
01:06Gusta Wynn.
01:10It was the marshland that this circuit's built on.
01:13And then it was a faulty floor for FP2.
01:15Did you get all that, all the excuses?
01:17Anyway, Colopinto.
01:18I...
01:18Look, I...
01:19You've got a driver's got to take it on the chin.
01:21It's the same for everyone,
01:22but that track conditions are just so difficult today.
01:26This circuit does throw curveballs up.
01:28We've seen it through the years.
01:30It can be completely different
01:34to the rest of the season.
01:36And 97's the one that always stands out.
01:39Damon Hill in an arrows that was struggling to score a point.
01:42Very unlucky not to win the Grand Prix.
01:44There's just something that happens around this place some years
01:47that scrambles the expected grip.
01:51They're going to deal with the advertising hoarding.
01:54The Alpine mechanics are going to deal with the rear wing assembly.
01:59And the red flag is out.
02:00If you're just joining us,
02:01if you're getting to the end of your week,
02:02wonderful to have your company.
02:04Welcome to the weekend.
02:05Welcome to FP2, the Hungarian Grand Prix.
02:09Lando Norris is fastest.
02:10Franco Collopinto on a low grip track
02:12where the drivers have been struggling.
02:14He's found the barriers at Turn 14.
02:16Well, the good news is it's entirely unpredictable.
02:20Norris having not pieced together a full lap so far
02:24has done one and hit the top of the times.
02:26The two Ferraris were out there on a new soft
02:29and they were just on an out lap
02:30when Collopinto hit the barriers.
02:32We were watching Antonelli on a flying lap
02:34when Collopinto hit the barriers as well.
02:36His first sector was pretty close to that of Lando Norris.
02:40And it was about a tenth up on George Russell
02:44through the first few turns.
02:45So that's your reference there for Antonelli.
02:48But he stays on his medium tyres as best down in ninth place.
02:52I wonder if he'll be able to go again, though, with his soft.
02:55James Hinchcliffe down in the pit lane for us.
02:57Any excuses for us?
02:59Yeah, you know what?
03:00I was actually quite liking that explanation from Jolien there.
03:02And I quite agree, Jolien.
03:04If you haven't been in that corner, you know, in an F1 car,
03:06you can even call yourself a Formula 1 driver.
03:09But I wanted to add to the list of excuses,
03:11something we talked about earlier, wind.
03:14A headwind into turn one means a pretty vicious tailwind
03:18into that final corner.
03:19And with your experience around here
03:21in a car as aero-sensitive as a Formula 1 car,
03:24how much do you think that could be playing
03:26into how much these drivers are struggling in that final corner?
03:28Oh, yeah, massively.
03:29I think it is making a huge difference.
03:31We're just watching Collopinto again coming into 13.
03:34So the back's already starting to go.
03:36So I'll add in tyre temp as well at the end of the lap.
03:38And then he just turns in.
03:40And I think you're right, Hinch.
03:41I think it's a really low track surface grip level.
03:45It's certainly wind has made the whole circuit difficult to drive.
03:50And when you have the tailwind, it's even harder.
03:52And then you're at the final turn of 14 turns of soft tyre running.
03:56And the rear tyres are already overheating.
03:58So should we give him the three-pronged attack of excuses?
04:02Seems fair.
04:02It seems fair.
04:03I think that's a great assessment.
04:05I mean, what driver could hang on to it at that point?
04:08Yeah, you can't even blame them.
04:11Don't give...
04:11The good and the great.
04:12Don't give Palmer support, all right?
04:15Don't do that, Hinch.
04:16You're better than that.
04:17James Hinchcliffe.
04:19Once on pole for the Indy 500.
04:21Down there for us in the pit lane.
04:24Frankie Colapinto starting the debrief earlier than he would have wanted to.
04:27Part of his season coming in Canada where he got his personal best result with a really strong drive.
04:33There we are.
04:34Picture of the floor.
04:35That's already...
04:36There we are.
04:36There's another one that will be distributed to all the teams.
04:40We had that with George Russell's car being craned away in Belgium.
04:43Got a good look at the Mercedes floor for the first time.
04:47Lance Stroll's new floor also got photographed this morning.
04:49All the photographers go out because they know that's the shot that people like me want to look at.
04:53It's not just people like me.
04:54It's you at home as well.
04:55But also, the teams will be paying money to some of these photographers.
04:58They'll have them on contract to try and get a nice peep at other teams' floors.
05:02So just see if there's any ideas or any thoughts that they've missed out on on their own designs.
05:06Should I give you one final excuse for Colapinto?
05:09I know I'm becoming his spokesman this afternoon.
05:11But he didn't drive this morning either.
05:13So he's down on a bit of circuit mileage today.
05:16So, well, did a first run on a medium tyre and then switched to the soft.
05:23And when it's particularly tricky track conditions,
05:26I think a lot of it makes it harder work and a way harder day than most for everyone out
05:33there.
05:34Anyway, that's enough.
05:35It's the same.
05:36It is the same for everyone.
05:38But it's just one of the easier days to have a crash, I think.
05:41The Minister for Excuses has finished up.
05:44And it gives us a chance to go downstairs.
05:45Well, they won't let me in the car anymore.
05:47So now I've got to make excuses for everyone else.
05:49Ruth, quickly, save us.
05:51Down to you on the pit wall.
05:54I am sat where I always used to at the restart trying to spy on everybody.
06:00Now, the reason why the cars behind me are on those shiny red tyres as they roll out
06:05is because they've not already started a lap.
06:08It's shiny because of the chromium in the release function itself.
06:12Now, different when he rolls behind me will be the McLaren.
06:15It will be that car of Charles Leclerc.
06:18It will be both the Mercedes where they have a used red tyre.
06:21Now, it will not look shiny.
06:24That is a bit of an issue because they will not have a reference on tyre temperature.
06:29They went out and did an outlap.
06:30And here, tyre temperature is everything.
06:32If you have an interrupted session in the middle of your qualifying run,
06:37you want to get out as quickly as possible,
06:39not only to get on to the rest of your programme,
06:41but because every degree you lose in that tyre makes a difference come qualifying.
06:46So right now, absolute nightmare in terms of the reference.
06:50And looking at the first runs, there's a bit of a split in terms of performance
06:55as you hear another race engineer sending the car back out.
07:01Ruth Buscombe on the pit wall for us,
07:04giving you the idea of what the teams are up to at this moment,
07:09where there's a little bit of a loss of this track time.
07:14And Antonelli, who was on that push lap then, has another go to come his way.
07:20Norris, Verstappen, Hamilton, Russell, Leclerc.
07:24Yet to see what the Ferraris can do, yet to see what Antonelli can do on his quali sim.
07:31Otacolopinto hits the wall at turn 14.
07:36I can tell you, just a little bit of behind the scenes at the moment.
07:40Loyal colleague that he is, Sam Collins, is currently replaying.
07:43Palmer's crash into the wall at turn 14.
07:50And now we're going to see the World Championship.
07:52Go on, Sam, go on, tell us.
07:53It truly was a carbon copy of Colopinto's off there.
07:56So I think the excuses are well-practised and probably quite accurate from joining that.
08:00Just bringing back a lot of mental trauma.
08:02That's all.
08:03Let's stick to the good stuff.
08:05Give me Antonelli then.
08:07Starting a second flying lap on the stops, but this time he might be able to finish it.
08:11So still with plenty of rear grip on the exit of that.
08:14Low speed, difficult traction zone.
08:16You've got to strike line the car off.
08:18And he's done that well.
08:19Gets into an early apex, drifts out wide.
08:23Blends out of the throttle, so they're not flat through turn 3.
08:25I think tomorrow that will become flat.
08:27But right now it's on the edge for everyone.
08:34Another long corner.
08:36Running out wide.
08:38People have been tracking this in the exit of 5 for 4.
08:40Wait, no way.
08:41No way with that.
08:45Struggling on the rear as soon as he turned it in.
08:47And you know what?
08:48At turn 6 there, it's the same direction.
08:50It's that tailwind at the top of the hill.
08:52So, excuse number 3, I think, hitched through out there.
08:55The wind.
08:56But I'm going to say the same applied there for Antonelli.
08:59You've got the tyres that have done plenty now on the softs.
09:03And track condition not nice.
09:05But the wind direction is making a big difference.
09:08Lower the kerb.
09:09At turn 11 we go with Arvid Lindblad.
09:11No improvement in the middle sector for him.
09:13But this is another lap.
09:15We saw him working the wheel a lot.
09:16He's so tentative on the throttle through turn 14.
09:19That's a good practice day for the neutrals, isn't it?
09:22Seeing the drivers having to work this hard.
09:24Here we go into the tricky final turn.
09:27Right.
09:28The smoother you can be on the wheel,
09:30the better you're going to be through there at this stage.
09:33Lindblad improves.
09:34He's a second off the pace, but up into the top 10.
09:38Now Hülkenberg in what was 7th, now 8th place.
09:42Lawson with the updates for this weekend.
09:46Starting this weekend in the top 10 of the championship.
09:49He's been there throughout the season so far.
09:51This is the moment that interrupted Kimi Antonelli's qualifying simulation.
09:57Yeah, but I keep locking the rear, man.
10:02It's too much.
10:05It's kind of almost imperceptible on board
10:08because it's micro-locking that he's talking about there.
10:11It's not a massive braking zone.
10:13It's end of braking and they've got a lock on the rear.
10:15So it starts to do the micro-locking of the rear.
10:18So in all tiny moments,
10:19especially when you start to take the downshifts as well.
10:22And then you start demanding a bit of turning from the car
10:25with that tailwind.
10:26And it's too much.
10:28And that is what Antonelli was complaining of earlier.
10:30And it's the same thing that Pono was talking about.
10:32Do we take out some front flap, some front wing angle?
10:35Well, if they have, they've not done enough
10:37for the push that Antonelli was doing there
10:40on a second lap on the soft tyres.
10:44What about Charles Leclerc?
10:45You ask, Alex Jakes.
10:47Here is your answer.
10:49Lost in thought there.
10:50Have we got to the point where you're just anticipating my thoughts?
10:54I mean, it's great for my energy levels by the end of a Grand Prix.
10:57Round Pierre Gasly, who was sitting a little bit on the racing line.
11:02Difficult section to get out of the rail.
11:04He also just jostles the wheel through six and seven.
11:10Tricky section.
11:13As you're on track at the same time,
11:15Hamilton still has the benchmark through the final sector.
11:18Will the soft tyre hang on through the final sector?
11:21Will the temperatures be too high?
11:23Can the Ferrari perform through that?
11:25Well, the Ferrari was pretty good through the final sector
11:27when Leclerc could stop it for that corner,
11:29which is done here.
11:30Hamilton still has the fastest final sector.
11:32So was it that the Ferrari guys were getting it nailed earlier on?
11:36Or was it that somehow their car is delivering mechanical grip,
11:40which has always been a great strength in that final turn?
11:43That looked great from Leclerc again, and it is.
11:44It's the best final sector,
11:46and he's once again got a margin out front.
11:48Hamilton going nicely in the first part of the racetrack.
11:51Crucial braking zone coming his way into turn 12 now.
11:55Left-hand side of your screen.
11:56Oh, it looked like he was carrying plenty into 12.
11:59Maybe just nudging wide with understeer.
12:01Oversteer into 13.
12:02The lap's starting to get away from him.
12:04What does that do to your tyre attempts
12:05coming through Tricky Corner?
12:08Hugging the apex in really early.
12:10Different driving line there for Hamilton
12:12just to get the car slowed and in,
12:13but hey, it's not slow.
12:15Hey, Ferrari look really, really good.
12:17Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton,
12:19they've both been on pole around here.
12:21Hamilton's the master of this place
12:22with eight Grand Prix wins, nine poles.
12:25Hamilton's line was different to everyone else.
12:27He dived straight for an early apex
12:29and then just hugged it the whole way around.
12:31Everyone else is going in a little bit deeper,
12:33looking for the cutback
12:34to get the slingshot off the corner.
12:36And I'd say given Lewis looked like he was losing
12:39a little bit through 13,
12:41it must have been very good through the final turn there.
12:43So maybe there's something that others can learn from him.
12:46Hamilton had an improvement in the first sector
12:48of three-tenths of a second.
12:50So it was fading from him,
12:53but very, very close when you add it all up.
12:55Sam?
12:56Casting your mind back to free practice one,
12:57where Charles Leclerc had the additional winglets
12:59on his rear wing,
13:00and Lewis Hamilton didn't.
13:02Hamilton now does have
13:03those additional winglets on his wing.
13:05Some aerodynamicists I've spoken to
13:07say there is a significant downforce benefit
13:10to running those stacks
13:11on the back of your car.
13:17Okay, let's check in once again
13:19with James Hinchcliffe
13:20with Ferrari looking good
13:22around this circuit.
13:23Let's send it to Hinch once more.
13:26Well, Alex, I've now come down to McLaren,
13:28where we see Oscar Piastri
13:30just coming in to the pits.
13:32And after kind of a rough session for the squad,
13:33neither car in the top 10 and FP1,
13:36we knew Norris had pace,
13:37just couldn't get the lap together.
13:38Of course, an FP1 for Neroli
13:40was in Piastri's car.
13:42And as we saw a little bit in Spain,
13:44and I know that Jolien loves to argue
13:46that this isn't the case,
13:47so I'm wondering if in 2026, JP,
13:49your mind's changed at all
13:50about missing FP1
13:52hurting you on the weekend.
13:54I know that his original run
13:55was interrupted.
13:57He went out on a used set at softs there,
13:59but still, it looks like he's struggling
14:00to find that same pace
14:02and get the lap done
14:02that Norris is doing.
14:04Norris out there getting that
14:06full fuel race running under his belt
14:08while Piastri's been allowed to continue
14:10that qualifying prep simulation.
14:12Obviously, the race running is very important
14:13on Norris' side of the garage right now,
14:15but with the new rules,
14:17with these new cars,
14:18do we think that maybe,
14:20just maybe,
14:20it's a slight disadvantage
14:22to sit out of an FP1,
14:24or are you sticking to your guns on this?
14:26Hinch, you're defying the stats here.
14:30The stats are the stats, right?
14:33I threw it in the picture
14:36as Franco Colopinto's fourth and final excuse
14:39that he sat out early on.
14:40Now, I think on a day like today,
14:41it looks to be particularly costly
14:43because the track conditions
14:44are so difficult and peculiar.
14:47But, right, the stats are last year,
14:50if you sat out FP1,
14:52you were likely to out-qualify your teammate.
14:56That's just how it happened.
14:58The more people that sat out
14:59ended up out-qualifying their teammates.
15:01And you know what?
15:01The same is true this year.
15:03It happened in Barcelona.
15:07It's happened so far this season.
15:09So, maybe this will be the outlier
15:10because it's been such a difficult day
15:12that it feels like track time
15:14is more crucial today than usual.
15:17But, it's difficult to argue
15:18with such a clean run of stats.
15:21I think you're getting quite close to shouting,
15:23but the stats!
15:25Feels like you're getting closer and closer.
15:26That's point number one.
15:27Point number two,
15:28Max Verstappen's reported
15:29he thinks he's hit some debris out there.
15:31Not enough to cause a yellow flower.
15:33I've got a virtual safety car at this stage.
15:36And we continue on.
15:38Still cars on the soft tires.
15:39There you go, there's the test.
15:41Somewhere, I have done
15:43all of the due diligence on this.
15:46And I was not expecting Hinch
15:48to throw me that question at this stage.
15:50So, I haven't got it to me.
15:53The debris is there for,
15:55well, the one that Verstappen has probably hit.
15:58Yeah, that's what Hinch does though, isn't it?
16:01He gets off the plane last minute,
16:02rocks up.
16:03Let me see if I can sift through my notes.
16:06You find it.
16:07By the way,
16:08did you see weekend warm-up?
16:09They were trailing a wet Grand Prix again on Sunday.
16:12They just do that, don't they?
16:13Every week they do that.
16:15It's unbelievable.
16:16Whoa, that's a...
16:16Or a winter.
16:17That's a good lap from Lewis Hamilton,
16:19finding that improvement in the final sector
16:21that he couldn't on his first lap.
16:22Yeah, because he made a mistake at Turn 13 before, didn't he?
16:25So when you piece it all together,
16:27I think Hamilton is the man in that tricky final sector.
16:31And so it has come about again.
16:34Whoa, another meaty lock-up there for Antonelli.
16:38And look again, he's in the Dakar as he's off at Turn 2.
16:41There's the debris for...
16:42It is all going on today.
16:45Is there going to be more coming off?
16:47What is the car ahead?
16:49That's a key question.
16:50That's what remains of it afterwards,
16:52after he'd gone through it.
16:54That's what he reported on the radio.
16:57So yeah, your weekend warm-up,
16:58you've got Laura Winter asking
16:59what 20% chance of rain on Sunday means.
17:02It means it's most likely not going to rain.
17:05I mean, we had it for Belgium.
17:08I don't want to say they can't keep getting away with it, but...
17:13We've already been messaged by Laura
17:15with the weather forecast for Sunday.
17:17So thank you for that response.
17:18Well, hey, if it does rain,
17:20it's going to be a race for the ages.
17:21If it doesn't, it's going to be as if it did rain
17:23off today's track conditions.
17:25Well, it's low grip enough out there already.
17:27A reminder for you,
17:28we have not tried these regulations in the wet
17:32and we are at round 11 of the season.
17:35The timing on that is extraordinary.
17:37And we've had the usual on Sunday.
17:41Sometimes we've packed up Grand Prix
17:42and it's hammered down a couple of hours afterwards.
17:46Hear you, hear you.
17:47It's an epic Grand Prix weekend.
17:49You're on the big screen with a bell, sir.
17:51Congratulations.
17:52Sums up the strangeness of practice Friday.
17:57How about a cowbell?
17:58Could well be.
17:59From the, straight from the Austrian hills.
18:02Not, not too far away.
18:04Not as far away as France.
18:06The banner we saw earlier on.
18:08Well, we've had a New Zealand one since, haven't we?
18:10So that's going to take some beating.
18:12Well, as we ride on board with Hajar
18:13down the start-finish straight,
18:15I'm getting us off bells, by the way,
18:16and talking about Aston Martins.
18:18It was an Aston Martin that lost that bit of debris.
18:21Fernando Alonso's car shed it
18:22and it was hit by Max Lestacca.
18:25Thank you for the update.
18:26Appreciate it.
18:28We are Vitacamp with Hajar.
18:31Building a bit of temperature.
18:34Aston has had a couple of moments off track.
18:37Once on his second attempt at a push lap,
18:40and then that was dramatic into, into turn two.
18:43Seems to be catching drivers out significantly as well.
18:47Remember, you can get all of the, the round up.
18:49The drivers, teams have to send one driver,
18:52one team representative to the media pen
18:54after a Friday.
18:55So there'll be plenty of analysis available for you
18:58and what the drivers make of a really tricky practice drive.
19:05I've not known a dry practice session
19:07on a conventional circuit.
19:09Street circuits, you get used to turning up
19:11and it being really dusty
19:13and the track evolution is huge
19:14and you start with a little bit of margin
19:17because the circuit's lined with barriers.
19:21Permanent tracks like this,
19:23an old-school circuit that's raced on by many series,
19:26it's driven on all year long.
19:27They normally turn up in the circuit somewhere
19:30in the window
19:31and you're fine-tuning details.
19:33Hence, you've got five drivers sitting out of FP1
19:36because it should be fairly routine.
19:37Normally, it's a fairly high-grip track
19:40but today it has just been all over the place.
19:44Certainly the breezy conditions aren't helping
19:46but it seems like it's in the asphalt,
19:49especially at the, at the final turn.
19:51Flo-Viz being prepared for the Aston Martin.
19:55A huge raft of revisions.
19:57After the difficulty of a season.
19:59I mean, you have to say,
20:01Fernando Alonso scoring 10th place in Monaco.
20:03It's just outstanding.
20:04That car has been slipping further and further back
20:06and they've been looking forward to this weekend
20:37and they'll also look forward to the power unit upgrade
20:38in a new power unit in Zandvoort and the rest of things.
20:41But if they spent all this time getting back to where they were in Melbourne,
20:45you wonder what on earth is going on.
20:48Now, Alonso's had a little bit of fall off the car.
20:50Stroll's had a problem earlier on.
20:52Maybe Fernando's not had the cleanest of runs here.
20:57But, yeah, I want to see more than this from Aston Martin.
21:02And Alonso's got form on this circuit.
21:03He loves this place.
21:05Yeah, first win here in 2003.
21:07That's how long Fernando Alonso has been racing in Formula One
21:10at the cutting edge.
21:11He's going to decide his future
21:12based on the performance of this upgrade as well
21:15in the next couple of races.
21:16He was saying in the press conference yesterday
21:19that, in turn, is going to have a massive influence
21:22on whether we get a bit of city season,
21:24a bit of driver market chat
21:26and a huge change around.
21:29If he doesn't move,
21:30he won't get as many moves as if he does.
21:34And so who are you thinking?
21:35If Alonso decides that Aston Martin aren't going
21:38where he wants them to go,
21:39it's a long-term project that he's not going to be here for,
21:42who do you think he might go there?
21:45Yuki Tsunoda.
21:46Honda engine, Honda funding.
21:48I'm sure if Alonso goes, it'll be Yuki Tsunoda.
21:51And it won't be just Yuki looking at that seat.
21:55You'll have Carlos Sainz potentially eyeing up that seat.
21:59Potentially Alex Albon will be looking at the Aston project as well.
22:04The entire field,
22:06that was going to be way more of a big question
22:10if they'd started the season strong.
22:11Purely because of the Adrian Newey design
22:14and his unbelievable track record.
22:17But it's a key question for the next couple of rounds.
22:21Who's driving where for the start of next season?
22:24I just don't think Aston Martin can...
22:28Yeah, I mean, I thought it was Nip Roots,
22:29but what they crossed in practice.
22:34Yeah.
22:36I think...
22:37Could have done and didn't from Arvid Lindblad there.
22:39Yeah.
22:40Sort of tend to think Hülkenberg would agree there
22:43around the outside of turn two.
22:44If that was racing,
22:46by the rules,
22:47if you're ahead of the apex,
22:47you can shuffle them off.
22:48And at least Lindblad's making everyone aware
22:50that he knows the racing rules,
22:52but you don't do that in practice.
22:53I don't think Aston Martin can replace Alonso with Tsunoda
22:56if you've got Mark Stroll in the other car.
23:00I think you have to go for someone
23:01that can spearhead the team.
23:04I'm not saying Yuki doesn't have a future
23:06back in Formula One,
23:07but to lead Aston Martin Honda
23:09on the charge from the back to the front,
23:11that feels like it's...
23:14You know, not a like-for-like replacement.
23:17My feeling is it's going to be Honda funding
23:19that will make it incredibly attractive to that team.
23:22And particularly if they're not convinced
23:24of a competitive car next year,
23:25but you're right,
23:26they do need a proven lead driver,
23:28and Yuki hasn't proven that at all.
23:32It's one of the Williams drivers
23:34having a look around, surely,
23:36because they're also on the receiving end
23:37at the moment of a dismal tale this year.
23:40So let's continue this on.
23:41Could that open the door
23:42for someone like Esteban Ocon,
23:44who's looking over his shoulder,
23:45Fornaroli,
23:47Camara,
23:48looking at that seat.
23:50Camara currently racing in Formula 2,
23:52part of the Ferrari Academy.
23:53Long history.
23:55The Ferrari Academy drivers
23:56cropping up at Haas.
23:59To go to a Williams?
24:01To go to a Williams
24:01if there's a move to an Aston.
24:03And with Fernando Alonso,
24:05I mean, his manager does run the Alpine team.
24:07So that could be Fernando's option
24:09to continue in Formula One,
24:11in which case,
24:12Frank and Colin Pinto
24:13might head back to the team
24:14where he made his Formula One debut.
24:15There's a lot of knock-on dominoes
24:18if the Aston Martin upgrade
24:20isn't as big as Fernando Alonso wants.
24:22Yeah, I think Williams and Aston Martin
24:23are two teams
24:24with different pulling power
24:28for star drivers.
24:30And as perverse as it is
24:31with the season that Aston Martin have had,
24:33when they have Adrian Newey,
24:35they have Honda
24:36and they have
24:39all the finances
24:40that are there at the moment
24:42with Laurence Stroll.
24:44As we see Norris,
24:45that was the repo
24:46hopping over the chicane again.
24:48Then that is a team
24:49that has to have
24:50a top driver.
24:51It has the potential
24:52to be right back
24:53towards the sharp end
24:54and you feel like
24:56it's a race-winning driver
24:57that's going to end up there.
24:59But then, yeah,
25:00that's the only thing
25:01that would, at the moment,
25:03cause a shuffle, it seems.
25:05Ocon, we've spoken about earlier on,
25:07under a little bit of pressure.
25:09Fauna Roli,
25:11Kamara,
25:11a couple of options.
25:13Berman's shown
25:14Ayokamatsu
25:14and the bosses there
25:17that rookies can come in
25:18and do a good job.
25:19There is a race-winning driver
25:20with a lot of history
25:21with that team
25:22that we haven't mentioned here.
25:23Sergio Perez.
25:26Yeah.
25:27He's got a multi-year deal
25:29at Cadillac,
25:29but as we've seen
25:30in the past,
25:32contractors don't always
25:33get fulfilled
25:34in Formula R.
25:36Plenty of times.
25:37Long runs.
25:38We're talking driver market
25:39because there's long runs
25:40on track.
25:40Lewis Hamilton's going to finish
25:41the day top of the pile
25:42on one of his favorite circuits
25:44on the pile.
25:45And also,
25:46maybe Aston Martin
25:47are going to turn
25:48the wick up tomorrow
25:49and they're going to show
25:50the potential
25:51that's going to keep
25:52Fernando Alonso enthused.
25:54It's the first day
25:56of them running
25:57this new upgraded package,
25:58so getting a little bit
26:00ahead of ourselves generally.
26:01And remember,
26:02there is a Honda upgrade
26:03coming for Zandvo
26:05after the summer break,
26:06which will be another step
26:07for them coming.
26:08So I want to see
26:09plenty from them.
26:11So does Fernando Alonso
26:12and we will not really
26:14going to find this out
26:15on a Friday hour?
26:16No.
26:17But when you look
26:18at the times,
26:20it just looks like
26:21same old for now.
26:22Let's check in one
26:23final time in this hour
26:25with Ruth Busken
26:26along the pit wall for us.
26:29Right, well,
26:30if you were my team
26:30principal, Alex Jakes,
26:32with five minutes to go,
26:33you'd ask me for a roundup
26:34of this session
26:35from a strategist's
26:37point of view.
26:37And I think you make
26:38a great team principal,
26:39so I'm going to give you
26:40the roundup
26:41from how I see it.
26:42So we start doing
26:44the qualifying runs.
26:45We get an idea
26:45of the pecking order
26:46in low fuel.
26:47For me,
26:48Ferrari in this session,
26:49they are dominant
26:50for a couple of reasons.
26:51Low speed cornering
26:52both for drivers
26:53and that car
26:54is better than
26:55any car out there.
26:56The higher speed corners
26:57is Max Verstappen
26:58that's the fastest.
27:00The McLaren
27:00is a bit more
27:01of an all-rounder
27:02but struggling
27:02a little bit
27:03with the wind.
27:04Interestingly,
27:05the Mercedes
27:05in this session
27:06on low fuel
27:07struggling a little bit
27:09in the low speed corners.
27:10But all the data
27:11is a little bit ruined
27:12by that red flag
27:13which is just what we love
27:14as strategists.
27:15Now,
27:15I'm going to give you
27:16a rundown
27:17of what we've seen
27:17so far in race
27:18simulation mode.
27:20If the race
27:20was happening
27:21right now
27:22in these windy
27:22tricky conditions,
27:23hot temps
27:24that drives
27:25the degradation up,
27:26it would be
27:26a two-stop strategy.
27:28Medium,
27:29medium,
27:29hard.
27:30But the teams
27:31aren't racing right now.
27:32What are they going
27:32to have to do?
27:33Take all that data
27:34and then have a reference
27:36and then in the race
27:37live on Sunday
27:38work it out
27:39because nobody
27:39out there
27:40has done the 30 laps
27:41you need
27:42to make a one-stop
27:43work.
27:44Super interesting.
27:45Competitively,
27:45that Mercedes
27:46is good in race pace.
27:48Looks a little bit
27:48ahead of the Ferrari
27:50right now.
27:51But again,
27:51it's all to play for.
27:5310 kilograms of fuel,
27:5410 kilograms of equipment
27:55which we don't know
27:56exactly what the teams
27:57are running
27:57is about three and a half
27:59tenths here.
28:00So if I was you,
28:01I would say
28:02if you pick a team
28:03but it's looking good
28:04and as for Aston Martin,
28:06they have made
28:07a big old improvement
28:08in the low-speed corners.
28:10For me then,
28:11it's a good upgrade
28:13by Adrian Newey.
28:15Thank you, Ruth.
28:17Really appreciated
28:18your input
28:19back on the pit wall
28:20and giving us
28:21a broad look
28:22at what the teams
28:22are seeing in real time.
28:24Charles Leclerc
28:26had George Russell
28:27ahead.
28:28Oh, he's nearly
28:28into the apex, Barry.
28:30But it's a perfect
28:31illustration
28:32of one team
28:33being able to
28:34find grit
28:34through that final turn.
28:36To the point,
28:36he just can't find
28:37a way round
28:38the Mercedes.
28:40He's almost
28:40in the back of them
28:41as well at turn one.
28:42And the other team
28:42just struggling
28:43to find any level
28:45of adhesion
28:46at the final turn.
28:48So Leclerc,
28:49probably he's on
28:49a fresh tire
28:50at that point
28:51coming past Russell
28:52as well
28:52who's on a pretty
28:53worn out medium
28:54and Russell now
28:56gets off that tire.
28:57But it's particularly
28:58that final turn
28:59where the car
28:59can't help itself
29:00but try and
29:01overtake on that
29:03shallower inside line.
29:04Reminder for you,
29:05Mercedes have taken
29:06every single Grand Prix
29:08poll this year
29:09on that record
29:10under serious threat
29:11from the evidence
29:11of today.
29:12But remember
29:13the teams are phenomenal
29:14at advancing things.
29:15The track will grip up
29:16as we continue on.
29:17But it's Ferrari's Friday
29:19and with two and a half
29:20minutes to go
29:21in the session
29:22we now arrive
29:23at the exciting news.
29:25After 40 years
29:26of this great Grand Prix
29:28they have changed
29:29the names
29:29of the corners
29:30across the boards.
29:34Geraldine,
29:34you've been wanting
29:35to talk about this
29:35all day.
29:36Sam,
29:37you sent this
29:38to the group chat
29:39earlier on.
29:40Here we go then.
29:42They have added
29:43corner names
29:43and I like this.
29:44I like corner names
29:45instead of just saying
29:46the corner numbers.
29:47Not going to change
29:47things for the drivers
29:48and the teams
29:49behind the wheel.
29:50But now
29:50turn one
29:51is Pique.
29:53Turn two
29:55named for
29:55Lewis Hamilton.
29:57What else
29:58is catching
29:59your attention,
30:00Pum?
30:00Hey,
30:01I'm looking
30:01through this
30:02and I am
30:04enjoying the whole
30:05lot actually.
30:06So turn three,
30:07shall we just
30:07rattle through?
30:08Turn three,
30:08the right-hander
30:09is Spring
30:11which is
30:12because the
30:12circuit
30:13said it was
30:14in a valley.
30:14The valley
30:15is called
30:15the Valley
30:15of the Three
30:16Springs.
30:16So we've
30:17gone from
30:18Spa to Spring.
30:19Turn four,
30:20Mansell.
30:22Won a World
30:22Championship here.
30:23Great corner.
30:24Big,
30:25the fast left
30:26hander over
30:26the crest
30:27need a
30:28sort of a
30:29Mansell-esque
30:30bravado to get
30:30through there.
30:31Bit of bravery.
30:33Famous for the
30:34high-speed drama
30:36Nigel Mansell
30:37and his Formula
30:37One career.
30:38What's next?
30:40Mogirod.
30:40Well pronounced.
30:42That's why I threw
30:42it to you.
30:43Turn five,
30:45which is because
30:46that is the
30:46municipality
30:47where we are.
30:48So Mogirod.
30:50Turn six and
30:51seven,
30:51my favourite
30:52sequence,
30:53which feels
30:54about right
30:54for the
30:55nothing
30:55you sort
30:56of chicane
30:56it is.
30:58It's called
30:58Driving
30:59Centre.
31:00I think they've
31:01got to work
31:01on that.
31:02Let's have a
31:02reboot on that
31:03one, guys.
31:03Look,
31:04no bad
31:04ideas,
31:05all right?
31:05All suggestions
31:06are good
31:06suggestions,
31:07but maybe
31:08we go again
31:09for Driving
31:09Centre,
31:10which is right
31:10here,
31:11into Driving
31:12Centre.
31:13I'm not sure
31:13it works.
31:14No,
31:14we've got to
31:14work on that.
31:15So Hamilton
31:15through Driving
31:16Centre,
31:17into Buda,
31:18the left
31:18Pest,
31:19the right
31:20hander,
31:21turn 10,
31:22flat out,
31:23a nice flowing
31:23corner,
31:24just like the
31:24Danube,
31:25before you head
31:25to a Lacey,
31:26turn 11.
31:27I feel like we're
31:28going to have to
31:28explain quite a lot
31:29of today's commentary
31:30afterwards.
31:31Right,
31:31then,
31:31turn 12,
31:33named for the
31:33great Michael
31:34Schumacher.
31:35So,
31:35we're reeling
31:36off legends here,
31:3812,
31:38Schumacher,
31:3913,
31:40Centre,
31:41the left
31:41hander,
31:42tricky corner,
31:42all about right
31:43foot control
31:44on the exit,
31:44before you come up
31:45to turn 14.
31:48Yeah,
31:49Sam Collins,
31:50talk us through
31:50turn 14.
31:51Well,
31:51it's named after
31:52a former famous
31:53Renault driver
31:54who won the
31:55first ever
31:56Grand Prix
31:56motor race
31:57in a Renault
31:59AK90CV
31:59in 1906.
32:00It is,
32:01of course,
32:02Ferenc Schiz.
32:03Unbelievable.
32:04What a pro
32:05at the pronunciation.
32:06Well done,
32:07well done for
32:08going for it.
32:10Wonderful.
32:11Honorary,
32:12the first ever.
32:12I think that's
32:13how Colapinto
32:14felt earlier on
32:15there.
32:15Schiz.
32:17Into the
32:18barriers.
32:19Lewis Hamilton
32:20has topped
32:21FP2
32:22around the
32:23Hungara ring,
32:24which is now
32:25adorned
32:25with brand
32:27new names,
32:29including his
32:30at turn two,
32:32P2
32:33Charles Leclerc.
32:34Ferrari having
32:35an absolutely
32:37superlative
32:38Friday.
32:39They look the
32:39team to beat
32:40early stages
32:41of the weekend,
32:42but they are
32:43looking great
32:44once again.
32:45If you get rid
32:46of the straights,
32:47it's looking good
32:47for Ferrari
32:48and it's proving
32:49so again.
32:51They're top
32:51of the pile
32:52just outside
32:54of Budapest
32:55in Hungary.
33:01They're low speed
33:02performance is very
33:04good.
33:04Their mechanical
33:05grip is very
33:06good.
33:07Their change of
33:07direction through
33:08driving centre
33:10is where they're
33:11making up
33:12ten and a half
33:15and then they've
33:16got that final
33:17sector,
33:17haven't they?
33:18You're explaining,
33:20you're explaining
33:20again.
33:21Just like 2017,
33:23you've got some
33:24explaining to do
33:25after practice
33:25on a Friday.
33:28I like Buda
33:29and Pest,
33:29that makes a lot
33:30of sense.
33:30Yeah, yeah,
33:30we like,
33:31there's a lot
33:32to like about it.
33:33Just my one
33:34question is
33:35whether driving
33:35centre needs
33:36to rework.
33:37Named after
33:38the Hungaroring
33:39driving centre,
33:40Hungary's first
33:41driver training
33:42facility which
33:43opened in 1998.
33:46There was a
33:47racetrack here
33:47in 1986,
33:49the first year.
33:51The first
33:52driver training
33:52facility opened
33:5312 years later.
33:54Maybe a
33:55karting school?
33:57Might be lost
33:58in translation
33:58from the press
33:59release.
33:59That is
34:00two shades of
34:01green for
34:02Aston Martin.
34:03I'm sure
34:04there's a
34:04karting track
34:05in there.
34:07It's right by
34:08the water
34:08park, isn't
34:09it?
34:11They are
34:12learning a lot
34:13as you can
34:14tell by the
34:15fact that
34:15half of that
34:16car is
34:16covered in
34:16flowbiz.
34:22Vastly
34:22updated car
34:23and they've
34:25got so much
34:25data to
34:26pour over.
34:26Thanks to
34:27Fernando Alonso
34:28out there.
34:29Practice starts
34:29being completed
34:30on the main
34:30straight.
34:31Another
34:31wonderful
34:32attendance
34:32lining the
34:33circuit.
34:35It's
34:35listening.
34:40It's been
34:40Ferrari's
34:41Friday.
34:41Lewis Hamilton
34:42ahead of
34:43Charles
34:43Leclerc.
34:44Charles
34:44Leclerc did
34:44not love
34:45his
34:46non-run.
34:48That was his
34:49feedback on the
34:49radio.
34:50But they're
34:51top two when it
34:51comes to quality
34:52simulation.
34:52That's going to
34:53count for a lot.
34:54Practice start for
34:55Oscar Piastri.
34:58He's finished this
34:59session down in
34:59eighth.
35:02His teammate is in
35:03P3.
35:04Then it's Verstappen,
35:05Russell,
35:05Hadjar,
35:06Nilsson.
35:07And then we get to
35:08the driver in your
35:09picture.
35:11It's taking a while
35:12to launch off the
35:13line.
35:13There he goes.
35:14Goodbye to you,
35:15sir.
35:15Top ten
35:16completed by
35:16Nico Hülkenberg
35:17and Arvid
35:18Lindblad.
35:19Looks tight
35:20with the Audi's
35:22Lindblad ahead of
35:23Portoleto and then
35:24Estevan Ocon.
35:25That has been
35:26dramatic for a
35:27practice Friday.
35:28The drivers have
35:29been scrambling
35:30around.
35:31It's been brilliant
35:32to watch from the
35:33commentary box.
35:33I hope you've
35:34enjoyed it as
35:34well.
35:35We are set up for
35:36a great rest of
35:37the weekend.
35:38Qualifying day
35:39tomorrow.
35:39For the end of
35:40practice Friday,
35:41who else but the
35:42master of this
35:43place?
35:43Lewis Hamilton
35:44ahead by a
35:45tenth of a
35:46second.
35:46Charles Leclerc in
35:47second position.
35:49Lando Norris in
35:50third.
35:51And then it is
35:52Max Verstappen in
35:54fourth place ahead of
35:55George Russell.
35:56It's Hadjar,
35:57Lawson,
35:58Piastri,
35:59Hülkenberg and
36:00Arvid Lindblad for
36:01racing balls.
36:02Finds himself
36:03completing the
36:04top ten
36:05classification.
36:07Second page
36:08begins with
36:09Gabriel Bortoletto
36:10and then it is
36:11Ocon ahead of
36:12Antonelli.
36:13Antonelli struggling
36:15for grip like
36:16many out there
36:16but he interrupted
36:18both of his
36:18push laps so
36:19that's why he's
36:19in the 13th.
36:21Then it's
36:21Gasly,
36:22Behrman,
36:22Albon and
36:23Sainz,
36:23Bottas,
36:24Alonso and
36:25Sergio Perez
36:26rounds up the
36:27top 20.
36:29Franco Colopinto
36:30had the spin
36:31and nudged the
36:32barrier halfway
36:33through the
36:34session.
36:34Lance Stroll,
36:35the suspension
36:36failure earlier
36:37on prevents him
36:38from taking part
36:38in FP2.
36:42Well my thanks to
36:43Sam Collins and
36:44to Jolian Palmer.
36:46We are off from
36:48the commentary box
36:49but there has been
36:50so much to talk
36:52about across the
36:52course of this
36:53practice Friday
36:54so let's send it
36:54to Laura to do
36:56just that.
36:56Down to you Laura.
36:58Thank you so much
36:59Alex Jakes,
37:00Jolian Palmer,
37:01Sam Collins.
37:02I think we need
37:02to send someone
37:03to check on the
37:04boys in commentary
37:05don't we?
37:05They sounded
37:06delirious in parts
37:07there regaling us
37:08with the corner names.
37:10I was impressed
37:11with turn 14.
37:12I was waiting
37:12for Jolian to get
37:13to that.
37:14He knocked off
37:14Schumacher and
37:15Senna and then
37:16just casually
37:16passed the baton
37:18on to Sam Collins
37:18who did a brilliant
37:19job with it.
37:20I'm not going
37:20to attempt it
37:21but let's see
37:22if those names
37:23stick.
37:23I'm not sure
37:23driving centre
37:24is going to be
37:25what the drivers
37:26are referring
37:27to that chicane
37:27as from now on.
37:28Driving centre
37:29is my absolute
37:30favourite
37:30and that was
37:31some proper
37:32FP2 chat
37:33that you were
37:33all treated to.
37:35Juan Pablo,
37:35what were your
37:36takeaways then
37:36from FP2?
37:37Ferrari quickest
37:38as they were
37:38this morning,
37:39a different driver
37:40this time
37:41in Lewis Hamilton
37:41which turn 2
37:43was named after.
37:44Yeah, honestly
37:45we said it
37:46since the pre-show
37:47yesterday
37:49that the Ferrari
37:50was going to
37:50look really strong.
37:52Antonelli
37:53remembers the
37:53first session
37:54so he's going
37:54to be a little
37:55bit behind
37:56so it's the
37:56first time
37:57he's going
37:57to get in
37:57the car
37:57and he's going
37:58to go
37:58oh my god
37:59we missed
37:59the boat
38:00with what I
38:00wanted.
38:01He wasn't
38:01that happy
38:02he was
38:02complaining
38:02about a lot
38:03of rear locking
38:04so from that
38:04point of view
38:05they've got a lot
38:06of work to do.
38:07They had a lot
38:08of work to do
38:09in Monaco
38:09last time
38:10it was a small
38:11track like this
38:11and they figured
38:12it out
38:12so we need to
38:13see how much
38:13of a step
38:14they do
38:15but I think
38:16it's anybody's
38:17game.
38:17I mean I think
38:18the interesting
38:19thing is
38:19such a mixed
38:21grid at the
38:21moment
38:22that it's going
38:23to be
38:23who can put
38:24that lap
38:24together
38:25and the track
38:26off line
38:27is very dirty
38:28we saw
38:28you know
38:30Colapinto got
38:30off the line
38:31by I don't
38:32know
38:33half a car
38:34length
38:34maybe a little
38:35bit
38:35got a bit
38:36of a snap
38:36and when
38:37they go
38:37they go
38:38and it's
38:40going to make
38:40it really tricky
38:41and it's going
38:41to make it
38:41really tricky
38:42to race
38:43as well.
38:43Yeah the
38:44Ferraris
38:44look to have
38:45around 5 tenths
38:46from those
38:46FP2 times
38:47but McLaren
38:48are right
38:49they're up
38:49there
38:49Mercedes
38:50are up
38:50there
38:50Red Bull
38:51are up
38:51there
38:51racing
38:52bulls
38:52are up
38:52there
38:52out
38:53here
38:53in the
38:53top 10
38:54it could
38:55just about
38:55fall to
38:56anyone
38:56but Ferrari
38:57look to be
38:57in the
38:57driving seat
38:58on Lewis
38:59Hamilton
38:59and turn
39:002 being
39:01named
39:01after him
39:02I'm hearing
39:02there was
39:02a lovely
39:03ceremony
39:03and he put
39:04his hands
39:04in cement
39:05up there
39:06I think we
39:06can see
39:07it now
39:07and it is
39:08I mean look
39:08he's got
39:09the straight
39:09named after
39:09him
39:10at Silverstone
39:10and now
39:10another part
39:11of another
39:12racetrack
39:12that we all
39:13love
39:13named after
39:14to him
39:14of course
39:15nine times
39:16pole sitter
39:16here
39:17eight times
39:18winner
39:18can he make
39:19that nine
39:20wins
39:20judging
39:21from the pace
39:22that we've
39:22seen this
39:23afternoon
39:23James
39:24yeah he'd make
39:24it nine and
39:24ten
39:25I mean I think
39:25he's obviously
39:26he's in the show
39:27for pole position
39:28as well
39:28and he's just
39:30been on such
39:30good form
39:31hasn't he's been
39:32on such a
39:32great run
39:33we know how
39:34much he likes
39:34this racetrack
39:35that Ferrari
39:35really is
39:36performing
39:36the way that
39:37we expected
39:38it to
39:38you kind of
39:38mentioned
39:39Monaco
39:39right
39:39we all kind
39:40of went
39:40to Monaco
39:40saying oh
39:41this is going
39:41to be
39:41Ferrari's
39:42best chance
39:42of the year
39:43that they go
39:43ahead and win
39:44at Silverstone
39:44which nobody
39:45saw coming
39:45so I think
39:46this is another
39:47example of a
39:48track they should
39:48be fast at
39:49but right now
39:50so far
39:51we're not there
39:52yet
39:52you know
39:52he said
39:53it was Antonelli's
39:53first session
39:54in the car
39:55but it's not like
39:56Russell was setting
39:56the world on fire
39:57so Mercedes
39:58maybe still
39:58a little bit
39:59of pace to find
40:00and the gap
40:00is just massive
40:01so Ferrari
40:02looks like
40:02they're the ones
40:02to beat
40:03you do feel
40:03it's somewhat
40:04of a murky picture
40:05because the red flag
40:06for Colopinto
40:07somewhat interrupted
40:08running
40:09and as you said
40:09we haven't seen
40:10the best of Antonelli
40:11yet and he was
40:11struggling so much
40:12through that session
40:13with rear locking
40:14who do you think
40:16though based on
40:16what I've just said
40:17saying it's a murky
40:17picture
40:18who do we think
40:19may be the closest
40:19competitor to Ferrari
40:20I 100% believe
40:22Mercedes
40:23Mercedes and
40:24we look at last
40:25weekend was the
40:26same thing
40:26they looked up
40:27the pace
40:27they didn't look
40:28that great
40:28and when they
40:30came to qualify
40:30they turned it up
40:31and it was right
40:32there so
40:32it seems like
40:33they run less
40:34power than the
40:34Ferraris in practice
40:35so I think
40:37that's a factor
40:38and I think
40:39they know
40:39they have the pace
40:40and they have
40:41new bits in the car
40:42and everything
40:43so I'm pretty sure
40:44once they figure out
40:45what they need to do
40:46handling wise
40:47they're going to be close
40:48the question is
40:49can they really
40:49nail the car
40:50because in Monaco
40:51they really nail the car
40:54it's funny
40:54because I was talking
40:55to Bradley
40:55you know
40:56the team principal
40:57earlier
40:57and I said to him
40:58I would say
40:59this is the first time
41:00you guys were not
41:01favourites
41:02and his answer
41:03was like
41:04a lot of people
41:05tell me this often
41:06and we keep winning races
41:07so
41:08yeah it's not a bad
41:09position to be in
41:09if you're not favourites
41:10and you're still winning
41:11Red Bull
41:12and McLaren
41:13do you think
41:13they'll be content
41:14with their Friday running
41:17yeah I think so
41:18P3 Norris
41:18P4 Verstappen
41:19yeah I mean
41:20I think Lando
41:21had a great
41:22great session
41:23we saw he had pace
41:24in if he wanted
41:24to get the lap together
41:25so he was able
41:26to get the lap in
41:27Piastri's run
41:27was interrupted
41:28so that one's
41:28a little bit
41:29more clouded
41:29but Mercedes
41:30sorry McLaren
41:31brought some upgrades
41:32they seem to be working
41:33I think the gap
41:34to Ferrari
41:35is going to be
41:35a little bit concerning
41:36but as you mentioned
41:36they often do run
41:37a little bit higher
41:38on the engines
41:38and Verstappen
41:39I mean
41:39you talk about
41:40who's going to be
41:40the closest competition
41:41certainly Mercedes
41:42is going to be in the mix
41:43but for me
41:44I think the more difficult
41:45the conditions are
41:46and we've seen
41:46they're difficult
41:47already this weekend
41:47but if the track temps
41:49go way up still
41:50and if the wind
41:50really kicks up
41:51that's where Max shines
41:53so I think the more difficult
41:54the track conditions
41:55in qualifying
41:55the closer the Red Bull
41:56the closer Max
41:57gets to being in the conversation
41:59for the front row
41:59we'll have a look then
42:01at just how difficult
42:02conditions are
42:03we've got Max here
42:04really making the use
42:05of every part of this racetrack
42:06the dust flying up
42:07the grip was just so low
42:08out there
42:09as Franco Colopinto
42:11found out
42:11Juan Pablo
42:12you said he was
42:14a tiny amount
42:15off the racing line
42:16and it ended
42:16in the barrier for him
42:17yeah you see
42:18he comes in
42:18makes a big arc
42:19and as soon as he
42:20gets on the brakes
42:21gets a little loose
42:22and it's gone
42:22it's like
42:23it's minimal
42:24but it's
42:25you know I mean
42:25at the end of the lap
42:26the rear tires are overheating
42:27you're pushing like crazy
42:28and you just have
42:29not as much grip
42:30as you want
42:31and if you combine
42:32a little bit too aggressive
42:33the car goes
42:34and I think the conditions
42:35being like this
42:36is going to create
42:37a very mixed grid as well
42:39because somebody
42:40in every team
42:41might figure it out
42:42and it's not one of those races
42:44where both cars
42:45are going to be
42:45in the window
42:46and I think that's why
42:47I think Ferrari
42:48might be one of the favorites
42:49is because both of their cars
42:50are right there
42:51as the wind gusts around us
42:53is it just the wind
42:54because we do have
42:55support classes
42:56racing here
42:56they are laying down
42:57a bit of rubber as well
42:58it can't be a totally
42:59green track
43:00no but we have that
43:01at a lot of tracks as well
43:03and it just seems like
43:03this one's struggling
43:04to kind of evolve
43:05the way we normally see it
43:06the dust is blowing around
43:07and I was just going to say
43:09the wind makes
43:09makes the driving difficult
43:10because of the change
43:11of the arrow
43:12but it also just blows dust
43:13onto the racetrack
43:14and so you know
43:15this is not one of those
43:16you know new school tracks
43:17that has paved runoffs
43:19everywhere
43:19this has dirt
43:20it's got gravel
43:21it's got grass
43:21and so when it is windy
43:22that is just going to make it
43:23harder for the line
43:24to stay clear
43:25and then especially offline
43:26it makes it that much worse
43:27like you say
43:28Colapinto just gets on
43:29he kind of is saving it
43:30and then as soon as
43:31the left rear hits
43:32that dirty part of the track
43:33it's gone
43:33yeah yeah
43:34the other thing
43:34despite history
43:35it's probably the dirtiest track
43:37we go to
43:37they clean it
43:39they clean it
43:39they clean it
43:40but this track
43:41is not used as much
43:42as other tracks
43:43so even with all the cleaning
43:45they do
43:46that is way better
43:47than it used to be
43:47back in the day
43:48the track is dirtier
43:49than most
43:49so many drivers
43:50complaining of a lack
43:51of balance out there
43:52and I guess that's because
43:53they can't quite trust
43:55what's beneath them
43:56Aston Martin then
43:57all eyes are on this weekend
43:59and yes Adrian knew
44:00he was telling us
44:01this is a phased run of upgrades
44:03we've got two more to come
44:05so it's not all on this weekend
44:06but they'd have pinned
44:07a lot of hopes
44:08on this weekend
44:09and I mean look at that
44:11Aston
44:12absolutely drenched there
44:14in aero paint
44:15but Lance Stroll
44:17the message we saw
44:18first of all
44:18he will not be heading out
44:20onto track
44:21they could not fix
44:22the problem
44:22that he had rear left
44:24suspension failure
44:24in FP1
44:25how much of a blow
44:26is that to Aston Martin?
44:27it's huge
44:28I mean when you have
44:29this much of an upgrade
44:30on the car
44:30you just need laps
44:31you need data
44:32you need to be able
44:32to analyse what it's doing
44:34is it correlating
44:35to the simulation
44:35to the wind tunnel
44:36to the CFD
44:37and so only having
44:38one car running
44:39is going to set them
44:40back quite a bit
44:41he didn't get that many
44:42laps even in FP1
44:43the weird thing is
44:44why if it's a suspension
44:45failure
44:46why is the car not running
44:47that for me
44:48is something broken
44:50the gearbox
44:51something failed
44:52that is like
44:52a major job
44:53that you need to do
44:54because normally
44:55when something like that
44:56happens is
44:56two bolts out
44:57another suspension hit
44:58two bolts in
44:59and you're done
44:59we talked about
45:00how good a job Lance did
45:01of not hitting that barrier
45:02clobbering that barrier
45:03and wiping out
45:04half the car
45:04he didn't hit
45:06what he should have hit
45:07and he still missed
45:08the practice
45:08when I got down
45:09to the garage
45:10the car was blown apart
45:11the entire rear end
45:12was missing
45:12so there's more
45:14to this story
45:14I'm not sure
45:15exactly what it is
45:16but I'm with you
45:16it seems a little
45:18suspicious
45:18and we'll probably
45:19never know the answer
45:20I think I'm going to
45:20send you both
45:21to find out
45:22if I can
45:23and we will try
45:24to get some answers
45:24for you about
45:25Aston Martin
45:26no Lance Stroll
45:27more analysis
45:28from FP2 though
45:29to come very soon
45:33for F1 TV
45:34let's hear from Oscar Piastri
45:36in that upgraded McLaren
45:37well Oscar
45:38obviously you missed
45:39the first session
45:40how did you
45:41assess things
45:42in practice
45:43too
45:45very very challenging
45:46for sure
45:47I think the
45:47track conditions
45:48are pretty challenging
45:50out there
45:50very windy
45:52the new parts
45:53of the track
45:54are not very grippy
45:57and
45:57they're kind of
45:58not breaking apart
46:00but they're
46:01very worn
46:02so
46:02it's just a very
46:03challenging
46:03circuit at the moment
46:06and yeah
46:06obviously missing
46:07a practice session
46:08has made it pretty tough
46:09yeah
46:09in terms of getting
46:10to grips
46:11with the new parts
46:12only having the
46:13one session
46:13how on top of those
46:14how best can you
46:15exploit those
46:16or look at them
46:17overnight
46:17to best exploit them
46:19I didn't have them
46:21today
46:22so I think
46:23on Lando's car
46:24they've been working
46:24as we expected
46:26which is good
46:28I don't think
46:29they've completely
46:30changed the car
46:31which
46:32obviously we weren't
46:33expecting
46:33but
46:34would have been nice
46:35but
46:36yeah
46:37we'll see what it's like
46:38on my car tomorrow
46:39and hopefully
46:40we can have a successful day
46:41just in terms of
46:42the spread of times
46:42more than we normally
46:43see here
46:44at Hungary
46:46what's your
46:46best hope
46:47in terms of where
46:48you could be fighting
46:49and qualifying
46:49I don't know yet
46:51I think the Ferraris
46:53have looked very quick
46:53in both sessions
46:55but I think Lando
46:56looked competitive
46:57in that one especially
46:58and
46:59yeah
47:00I think the Mercedes
47:01is very hard to
47:02hard to read
47:02so
47:03yeah
47:04let's wait and see
47:04tomorrow
47:05but I think if we
47:06execute a good day
47:07then it seems like
47:08they can be a lot
47:09up for grabs
47:09thank you
47:10thanks
47:10all right then
47:15Friday is done
47:16and dusted
47:17excuse the pun
47:18as the dust swirls
47:19around the Hungara
47:20ring
47:21but we move on
47:21to Saturday
47:22and this is how
47:23your schedule looks
47:24for the remainder
47:25of the weekend
47:25so Leclerc was
47:26quickest earlier on
47:27Lewis Hamilton
47:28quickest in FP2
47:29who will be fastest
47:30in FP3
47:31our third and final
47:32hour of running
47:3312.10
47:33building up to that one
47:343.25 start
47:36for the pre-qualifying
47:37show
47:37that turnaround
47:38is so so quick
47:39for teams
47:40drivers
47:40and you know
47:40what broadcasters
47:41as well
47:42then qualifying
47:42starts at 4pm
47:44your post-quality
47:44show with all
47:45of the analysis
47:45straight after
47:46and that sets
47:48the grid
47:48for Sunday
47:49race day
47:50one final one
47:51before the summer
47:51break
47:5210-2 for your
47:53pre-race show
47:53and a 3pm start
47:54for the Hungarian
47:56Grand Prix
47:56with all of the
47:57analysis
47:58in the post-race
47:59show
47:59straight after
48:00the podium
48:02Ruth
48:02we welcome
48:03you back up
48:05to our upgrade
48:06for the Hungarian
48:06Grand Prix
48:07which is our
48:07desk
48:08you were in
48:09the pit lane
48:09back in your
48:10natural habitat
48:11how was it?
48:12I mean I'm not
48:12crying it's just
48:13the dust
48:13because the
48:14pit lane
48:15is incredibly
48:16dusty
48:16it was such
48:17a special
48:18experience
48:19to be able
48:19to be back
48:20where I was
48:21actually physically
48:21exactly back where
48:22I was because
48:22I was in the
48:23team that was
48:23last in the
48:24championship
48:25so I've
48:26actually sat
48:26there
48:26because it
48:27goes in
48:27championship
48:28order
48:28many a time
48:29got to see
48:29some great
48:30things I've
48:30not seen
48:31for a while
48:31that Aston
48:32Martin
48:33upgraded
48:33you get a
48:34great view
48:34from the pit
48:35wall of all
48:35the parts
48:36the start
48:37procedure
48:37by the
48:38Mercedes
48:38completely
48:39different
48:40button usage
48:40across the
48:41two teams
48:42actually even
48:43the way
48:43that the teams
48:45are doing
48:45the pull away
48:45fantastic
48:47and got to
48:47watch the
48:48practice pit
48:48starts
48:48I loved it
48:49and the data
48:50I haven't even
48:51started on the
48:51data yet
48:52not like me
48:52at all
48:53is it?
48:53No
48:54we know
48:54you love
48:55data
48:55you can look
48:56at it all
48:56this evening
48:57and come back
48:58to us
48:58ahead of FP3
48:59and tell us
48:59what's going
49:00on
49:01feels a murky
49:01picture out
49:02there
49:02because of that
49:03red flag
49:03the timing of
49:04it
49:04so what do we
49:05have to look
49:06forward to in
49:06FP3 and how
49:07much more are
49:07teams going to
49:08have to find
49:08out there?
49:09So you know
49:10we don't have
49:11everything
49:11for me what we
49:12have right now
49:13is half a picture
49:14the Ferrari
49:14is the best car
49:16in those low
49:16speed corners
49:17for me that
49:18McLaren is not
49:19got really one
49:20weakness other
49:20than the fact that
49:21it's pretty
49:22dicey when there's
49:23wind coming
49:24through
49:24the Mercedes
49:26doesn't look
49:27like the fastest
49:28car in the
49:28corners at
49:29the moment
49:29in qualifying
49:30trim
49:31but when you
49:32go over to
49:32race trim
49:33they are the
49:34fastest team
49:36whereas you
49:37see that the
49:37Ferrari takes a
49:38little bit of a
49:38step back
49:39Red Bull
49:40bit of an
49:40all-rounder
49:41actually but
49:42I think there's
49:43still a little
49:43bit more to
49:44come from all
49:45of those teams
49:45and if the race
49:46was today
49:46I think it
49:47would be a
49:48two-stop
49:48medium-medium-hard
49:49because of the
49:50degradation in the
49:51wind
49:51if qualifying
49:52was today
49:53it would be a
49:53Ferrari front row
49:54but this track
49:55lives, breathes
49:56and changes
49:57so what will
49:58happen tomorrow
49:58who knows
49:59so who wins
50:00if the race
50:00was today
50:01well I'll tell you
50:02what would happen
50:03Charles and Lewis
50:04would start on the
50:05front row
50:05they'd lead after
50:06turn one
50:06but then their
50:07degradation would
50:07kick in
50:08and then unfortunately
50:09they would lose
50:11because Kimi Antonelli
50:12and probably George
50:13Russell
50:13if it was today
50:14would just keep
50:15going
50:15although actually
50:16no
50:16Kimi Antonelli
50:17because Russell's
50:18deg looked a little
50:18bit higher
50:19but I will
50:20that's the script
50:20I will counter
50:21that with
50:22Kimi Antonelli
50:23was having a lot
50:24of issues with
50:24rear locking
50:25he simply wasn't
50:26able to put a lap
50:27together at points
50:28in that
50:28what was going on
50:29guys
50:29coming to the drivers
50:30I think the problem
50:31is when you
50:32play with so much
50:33engine braking
50:33and recharge
50:35and everything
50:35the grip level
50:36being so low
50:37and you don't come
50:38from really high
50:39speeds
50:39when you come
50:40from really high
50:40speed you've got
50:41a lot of downforce
50:41and a lot of grip
50:42in the car
50:42so you can slam
50:43the brake pedal
50:44and maximize it
50:45and recharge
50:46but a lot of the
50:47braking here
50:48comes from medium speed
50:49you come out of
50:49medium speed
50:50corner short straight
50:51you don't accelerate
50:52that much
50:52and then when you
50:53get on the brakes
50:54the car is a lot
50:55lighter than you
50:56used to
50:56and it creates
50:56a lot of problems
50:57and a lot of really
50:58bad feeling when
51:00you're driving it
51:01so how much more
51:02does he need
51:02FP3 to get a bit
51:03more confidence
51:04in the car
51:05around here
51:05well I mean look
51:06I know he's 19
51:07but he's already
51:08he's such a pro
51:09if we were qualifying
51:10in an hour
51:11I have a feeling
51:12they'd have a good
51:12handle on things
51:13and he'd be able
51:13to adapt
51:14he'd fix the car
51:15the way he needed to
51:15he'd fix his driving
51:16the way that he needs to
51:17I mean his
51:18what was he
51:1913th, 11th
51:19something on the
51:20time charts officially
51:21but he
51:2214th
51:23but I mean
51:23he was on the lap
51:24sorry I did this wrong
51:24don't look at that
51:25don't look at that
51:26I'm not looking at that
51:26it's P13
51:27you know what time it was
51:28but he was on a much
51:29quicker lap
51:30until that rear locking issue
51:31in the
51:33was that the driving
51:34center chicane
51:34no it's the other one
51:36but no
51:37center of the world
51:38we know
51:38the car's got the pace
51:40he was on a very
51:40very quick lap
51:41so he's going to be
51:41a factor tomorrow
51:42but that is
51:43so frustrating
51:44as a driver
51:45when you have that
51:45rear locking feeling
51:46there's a lot less
51:47that you can do
51:48to kind of counteract
51:49and change the balance
51:50heading into the corner
51:51than if you had
51:51maybe a little bit
51:52of understeer on entry
51:53so the team's going
51:54to look at it
51:54they'll find a way
51:55to fix it
51:55they're great
51:56he's great
51:57they're going to be
51:57in contention tomorrow
51:58and you wonder
51:59how much George Russell
51:59will have hoped
52:00to be nearer
52:01the top of the timing
52:02sheets
52:02and having a smooth
52:03Friday
52:04given his issues
52:05we'll see what comes
52:06of FP3
52:06ahead of qualifying
52:08thank you so much
52:09guys for all of your
52:10insights from all over
52:11this wonderful track
52:12we will see you
52:13tomorrow for free
52:14practice 3
52:15and qualifying
52:16at the hungara ring
52:17goodbye for now
52:48we'll see you next time
52:51we'll see you next time
52:51we'll see you next time
