00:00So it's been a while since I've measured my hair, but the last time it was around three feet.
00:05So let's see if we're still at that point.
00:07I feel like if I just put this at my part and let this cascade down.
00:14So it looks to be about 40 inches, which is about three and a half feet.
00:19So as someone who's five foot three, that's over half of me.
00:28My name is Molly, and I'm going to show you how I style my three foot long ginger hair.
00:33I didn't necessarily plan on having hair this long.
00:36It kind of just was the outcome of many haircuts where I was too scared to cut off more than
00:43an inch or two.
00:44I just kept it going until it accidentally became part of my identity.
00:48My hair definitely has its own like personal space bubble.
00:54I've definitely sat on it.
00:56The other day, my cat knocked over the trash can next to the toilet.
01:00I went to pick up the trash can and realized that my hair was in the toilet.
01:05So as a content creator, it wasn't until I started making these videos that I actually started learning to do
01:13more intricate braiding.
01:14But then it started shifting into like the fantasy renaissance because everybody was like,
01:21you look like you're in the show Vikings or Game of Thrones.
01:24So then I started kind of recreating those looks,
01:26which then started kind of spilling over into like the costuming and the outfits and the throne.
01:32This is actually a vintage dress from the 60s, handmade.
01:37This is like a great example of like the 60s, 70s renaissance revival.
01:42It's just such a special piece to me and I hope I never grow out of it.
01:47So this is one of my most extravagant, expensive dresses.
01:52It's actually extremely long.
01:55It's by a Romanian brand called Chautrinette.
01:58So when it's on, you have these really dramatic sleeves here.
02:02You've got the chain details.
02:04It's kind of, you know, reminiscent of chain mail.
02:07Obviously, you wouldn't go to battle in this dress,
02:09but this is the dress that you would wear while you were ordering people around to battle for you.
02:14The train is massive.
02:16So when you have like a really extravagant dress on, really extravagant hairstyle,
02:20sometimes a nice crown just really tops it off.
02:23This is one of my favorite crown styles where it kind of, you know, dips in to your forehead.
02:29And it just looks really nice with like braids or like a middle part.
02:33This one is like very woodland fairy.
02:36It has like the wings on it and everything and the little mushrooms.
02:40So this would be a really cool like spring fairy tiara.
02:44So after people watch my videos, I like them to feel like they've been somewhere else
02:50or they've gotten a little glimpse into like a more simple world where we're just doing our hair and putting
02:57on dresses.
02:58The first order of business when I'm doing this braid is to just section everything.
03:02The braid that I'm going to do today, it's kind of similar to a bubble braid,
03:06but the variation that I kind of came up with was to make some of the strands of the braids
03:12actual braids themselves.
03:14So it's like it's like braid-ception.
03:16I start with like a Dutch braid on the top.
03:20When I first started braiding my hair, I definitely was learning by watching tutorials.
03:27And once you get kind of a feel of the pattern, you can learn to do like variations to it
03:34that look really complicated, but the base is still just a three strand or just a four strand or a
03:40five strand.
03:42Okay, so I kind of braid down a little bit and secure it just so I can put a hair
03:47tie where I want it
03:48without the braid unraveling at the bottom.
03:51Then I kind of pull open these little pieces and it just kind of volumizes the braid.
03:56So I'm going to split this ponytail into two equal parts.
04:02So I'm just going to get this out of the way.
04:04I think I'm just going to do the tuck.
04:06I'm going to make about seven small braids.
04:09So I'm just going to kind of try to figure out the thickness that I want them to be.
04:15So I'm just braiding this all the way down to the bottom.
04:18This is just a normal three strand braid.
04:20This is probably the most time-consuming part.
04:23Reach into my treasure chest.
04:25Grab an elastic.
04:27One down, 13 to go.
04:30Having 14 total is kind of just a rough estimate.
04:33I'm more focusing on making sure that I have the same number on both sides
04:37and that they're pretty similar in thickness.
04:41All right, braid number four.
04:43It's really easy to leave strands out.
04:45Whenever that happens, I either just like weave it back through the braid
04:48or I just only shoot from the front and I hide it behind my back.
04:54So this is what I have left.
04:55I feel like if I were to split this into three, it would get really thin at the ends.
04:59So I'm just going to split it into two and then we'll have six braids instead of seven.
05:03All right, this is braid number six.
05:06So just moving on to the other side, I just split this into two and I'm going to add my
05:10six braids on this side.
05:12So when it comes to my more intricate styles of braids or if I'm just doing a braid that I'm
05:16not really sure
05:17where it's going, how it's going to turn out, I usually give myself about a three-hour window of how
05:23long it might take.
05:24All right, I'm on the last braid.
05:26I wish I could say it gets easier from here, but unfortunately that would be a lie.
05:32So now that I have my six braids on each side and then this free hair, this is where we
05:39start the actual braid.
05:42So I'm going to weave portions of this free hair and these braids.
05:49Free strand and then a braid, free strand and then a braid and just continuing that pattern.
05:57So now I'm going to take these braids out and I'm going to clip them out of the way.
06:02So now with this hair that is left over, I'm going to take a hair tie and just secure it.
06:08All right, I'm going to take these out now carefully and to finish off this first section,
06:14I'm just going to pull each section that's in between these braids.
06:19It kind of gives like a lantern effect.
06:22All right, so now we just repeat the process, except we have the braided section on top.
06:27Again, clipping this out of the way and then securing these braids with the hair elastic.
06:33So now we have those and now we do the same thing.
06:36We're just pulling the individual braids out.
06:39And this is the part where it starts to look like a birdcage.
06:42With the braids, I have to make sure that I'm doing them in order because it's really
06:47easy to get them crisscrossed.
06:48So you want to keep them in the order that they are laying.
06:53I'm so good at describing stuff.
06:54Can you tell?
06:55That one's a good little sphere.
06:57Okay, so this is going to be the last little bubble and then I'm going to end it.
07:01I'm going to stop it right here because I feel like if I try to do one more braid bubble,
07:06they've gotten a little bit too thin.
07:08So I feel like this is a good ending point.
07:11So the most common question is, do my hands or my arms hurt while I'm doing this?
07:17And when it's a braid that's like right in front of me, not really.
07:21Behind my head, yes, sometimes.
07:24But it's actually my back that hurts the most.
07:27From just sitting up till...
07:29I shouldn't say that without...
07:34I'm just going to secure this at the end because I'm going to take the rest of these braids out
07:45at the bottom.
07:45So I'm just putting a little bit of heat protectant where I'm going to curl.
07:50I'm just going to curl these little pieces that I left out and I'm going to give a little bit
07:54of curl to the bottom.
07:55I think that'll bring a fun texture into the braid.
07:59I like to call these little pieces that I leave out my slut strands.
08:03Because they remind me of like the little pieces of hair in the front that the maidens had back in
08:09the day.
08:10After being in the brothel.
08:11This is like my favorite curling wand that I own.
08:15It's the GHD Thin Wand.
08:17And it's just so perfect for like getting like really small ringlets.
08:22Alright, now I'm going to do some decorations.
08:27I don't use real plants because my cats will eat them.
08:30They'll also eat these, but at least these won't poison them.
08:33And I have a bird.
08:34I'm going to see if he fits anywhere in here.
08:36Since it kind of looks like the bird cages.
08:38I don't want to go too overboard because this is already kind of a busy braid.
08:43I find it easiest to just stick it in the hair ties.
08:47So when we started this braid, the sun was up.
08:50As you can see, no longer is.
08:53So that can just kind of give you a sense of how long this kind of thing takes.
08:58Alright, I'm going to try to put my little bird friend, I think, in this one.
09:01I think that's where he will have the most room.
09:04I use a lot of like craft supplies as hair accessories.
09:08So this is technically for like making a wreath.
09:12Look at him sitting in there.
09:15So cute.
09:17Alright, this is the final look with all the embellishments added.
09:24I feel like I've become a pro at this particular braid.
09:29Even though it looks really complicated, as long as you know kind of the basic steps,
09:35it's more time consuming than it is complicated.
09:38Even though, you know, hair is something that's superficial, you know, it's not who I am.
09:45It's part of who I am, but it's not completely who I am.
09:47It's definitely such a great way to express who I am and really have something that's unique
09:53and show other people that you can also have something that's super unique about you
09:58and could just completely embrace it and just run with it.
10:02And I do love that it inspires younger people who have red hair or have long hair
10:07or even just really like the, you know, fantasy kind of aesthetic.
10:12I feel like it gets, you know, kind of a nerdy, bad rep sometimes.
10:17But being able to kind of bring it into the mainstream
10:20and make it more accessible and kind of normalize it
10:23is a really cool thing to be able to do.
