00:01Hey, my name is Jean Grey, and welcome to My Sweet Digs.
00:04If you're new to Refinery29,
00:06make sure you hit the subscribe button below,
00:08or I can't let you in.
00:09If you have a headset like this one, though,
00:11and want to watch it on virtual reality,
00:14make sure to hit that icon on the play bar.
00:16Come on right in.
00:22All right, I see you made it.
00:24I have a no-shoe policy.
00:26Check out my cool slippers.
00:27I live with my husband, Varric.
00:29My dog, Storm.
00:31And I have a bunny whose name is Dog.
00:34We live in Jersey City, three bedroom,
00:361,000 square feet for $1,600 a month,
00:39which I think is a steal.
00:40I don't think we'll ever be leaving anytime soon.
00:42Welcome to my kitchen.
00:43Before, it was this wood color,
00:45and wasn't really a fan of it.
00:47We decided to brighten up the space
00:49with a lighter colored paint,
00:50tie in the whole kitchen with copper and gold accents.
00:54So we even got, like, our copper kettle,
00:57our gold utensils to tie in the backsplash,
01:00and the brass handles.
01:02This is my best friend.
01:04We do brew our own coffee every single day.
01:0799% is really for me,
01:09because Varric doesn't really drink coffees.
01:11I also have this really cool automatic soap dispenser,
01:14which is so awesome.
01:17Open can.
01:18Another personal favorite is this automatic trash can,
01:21which really saves lives, honestly.
01:23Turn around and let's look at my living room next.
01:27Our common area is actually really special,
01:29because me and Varric decided to add in the crown molding
01:32on the bare walls.
01:34It was $500, and it took two days to add on,
01:37which is not bad considering the whole Parisian chic effect
01:41it gives, which I really like.
01:43There's a good amount of stuff here that we pick up
01:45from vintage stores and thrift stores.
01:47Like, on this little corner, we have antique cameras.
01:50They're also really cool conversation starters
01:52when we have guests over.
01:53We love entertaining,
01:54hence why we have this little area, the dining area.
01:58Did a little project on these chairs.
02:00We spray painted the legs.
02:02The gold color just finishes the whole room.
02:04This bar cart is not really a bar cart,
02:07because it has no alcohol, as you can see.
02:08It became a really cool area for our candles and incense,
02:11and just created this nice aesthetic feel
02:14of tying in the whole room with the gold and the bronze.
02:18And we have over here, Storm Sweet Diggs.
02:21This is where she lives most of the time,
02:22but really, she has the whole apartment.
02:24This is her whole house.
02:25So the third room has become my home office.
02:28I'd love to show you guys that.
02:33And welcome to the third room in our apartment,
02:36and also my office.
02:37This place is really special.
02:38I do a lot of my work here.
02:39It's the brightest room in the whole apartment.
02:43A little bit about this wall here.
02:45A lot of it are magazine clippings from my past work.
02:49I have some of my sketches from God knows how long,
02:52probably high school.
02:53I wanted to keep myself motivated,
02:55and these do the trick.
02:57Everything is a work in progress still,
02:58including this room.
02:59Something that I've really been wanting to do in this office
03:01is actually add some molding.
03:03Probably something that splits this in half
03:05and keep it very simple.
03:07Something else I wanted to do was add some frames
03:09all the way up to the ceiling over there.
03:12What do you guys think?
03:13I'd love to hear your input around the comments below.
03:16And on this little corner, I present Dog's Digs.
03:20In our first apartment,
03:21we weren't really allowed to have dogs,
03:23and so I decided to bring home a bunny one day
03:26and just name the bunny Dog, because why not, right?
03:29Now that you've seen my workspace,
03:31I want to show you where I get ready.
03:32Come on, let's go.
03:35So this is the bathroom.
03:37It's a bit small, so we decided to do some upgrades in here
03:42to compensate for the size,
03:43like this wooden toilet seat that I really loved
03:46and I thought it was really charming.
03:48And, of course, my favorite piece ever, the bidet.
03:51I really love that bidet so much.
03:53My next-door neighbor's dining area
03:56is right next to the bathroom.
03:58Half the time, you'll see them eating and cooking
04:00and, like, talking in their dining table,
04:02which I think is kind of funny.
04:04It's either we close it or they close it.
04:06It's always, like, a hit or miss,
04:08and we end up, like, laughing at each other half the time.
04:10I don't do a lot of getting ready in here
04:12since it's a bit tight.
04:13I want to show you where I get ready
04:15because it's my second most favorite place
04:17in this whole apartment.
04:18Come on, let's go.
04:22Welcome to my closet.
04:25I do a lot of my getting ready right here.
04:28A lot of my sheets happen in this room.
04:30This desk is really special.
04:31We got it from a flea market for $10.
04:33We decided to paint it white,
04:35switch up the handles into copper,
04:37which I think adds a really cool touch to the whole piece.
04:40I added in these antique mirror jewelry holders,
04:44which I converted into perfume holders
04:46and the little knick-knack holders, really,
04:48because I have so many little random stuff.
04:51These two wardrobes are extra large
04:53because I have really long dresses.
04:56Varric was telling me
04:57that these are way too tall for my own good.
04:59Oh, my God.
05:00I think he's kind of right, honestly.
05:02Now I think he's kind of right.
05:04And the star of this whole room
05:06is my favorite mirror.
05:08She is seven feet by five feet huge.
05:11We got it over at Craigslist for $200,
05:14my best Craigslist find yet.
05:16It does help a lot of my shoots
05:19because it has so much character.
05:20I do a lot of photo shoots every day
05:23and write about life in general.
05:25Fashion, lifestyle, travel, food, you name it.
05:29I've probably written about it.
05:30A lot of people have their closets inside their bedroom.
05:33I love separating work, play, and rest.
05:37So I wanted to show you how simple my bedroom is.
05:39Let's go there right now.
05:40That's the last room in this apartment.
05:43The best part about this room is its simplicity.
05:45The sole purpose of this room is to help us renew,
05:49re-energize, to zen out after a long day,
05:51and really just prepare for tomorrow.
05:54Being that feng shui is a good way to create a flow,
05:57we loved implementing that in here.
05:59And the reason for the bed being in the middle facing this way
06:02is because if your bed faces in the southeast region of your bedroom,
06:06it creates this aura of just calmness and contentment
06:12in your relationship, in your life, and in your career.
06:16So there is a method to my madness.
06:18For me, that's feng shui.
06:19I hope you were able to pick up some tips and tricks
06:22on how to create a good flow of energy in your own apartment.
06:25But for now, it's time to say goodbye.
06:27Come on, let me walk you right out.
06:30Thanks for stopping by.
06:31Hope you liked seeing my sweet digs.
06:33Bye.
