I’ve been LOVING spring on our homestead this year! There’s so much to be done and it feels so great to be making progress after a long winter. The kids and I have spent almost every day outside working on projects, hands in the dirt, working hard- and we’re all happier for it!

00:00Come see what spring on our real-life homestead actually looks like.
00:03This is a series I'm calling what homesteading looks like for us because a lot of people homestead or they
00:07look at homesteading and they think that spring is just magical and beautiful, but it's a lot of work.
00:12It is exciting. There's a lot of new things happening, but you have to do things like repair the step
00:16and re-pat down the yurt skirt because it got lifted up last winter and you realize that you're really
00:20tired of looking at it.
00:21You realize that plowing over the winter pushed a ton of rocks into the yard in the grass, so I
00:27spent days shoveling, raking, and picking rocks, which was an absolute ridiculous chore.
00:32Now it's finally ready for grass seed again, so we've got a bunch of spalled, patchy, I don't know, no
00:37grass areas that we want to get grass down, so I've been working on that grass wood shavings, which actually
00:43works pretty dang good instead of mulch and watering them.
00:46But spring is a lot of work around the homestead, and you're not in that phase of completion, satisfaction, sit
00:52around and look at the beautiful thing you did.
00:54You're just constantly looking around at projects or holes in the garden that need new perennial plants, or you get
01:00perennial ants from a neighbor, and then you realize, oh my gosh, I have to get all these in the
01:04ground right now before they all die.
01:07That was my project this day.
01:08When we bought this land three years ago, it was all woods, so we've been slowly working on making some
01:13nice grassy side yard areas.
01:15So I spent a while picking sticks out of that yard and reseeding it.
01:18It was time to get the chicken fence up and seed the chicken yard and pick sticks out of the
01:22chicken yard.
01:23Just a lot of spring projects.
01:25We're finally starting to check some things off our list, and eventually in a couple months, it's all going to
01:30look great and feel really worth it.
01:32It does now, but right now it's just a lot of work.
