00:26He admitted, hey, I knew something was up with my elbow in January.
00:30I didn't know what it was, but I decided I wasn't going to get it checked out.
00:33He said, I probably should have had an MRI, but the Tigers were going to take me to court arbitration.
00:40So he decided not to disclose it, not to get it done, run the risk of missing time this season,
00:45his final season in a Tiger uniform, a season where he has implored his team to buy,
00:50regardless of their losing record.
00:53Team player Tarek Scooble threw his team under the bus by hiding this, by delaying this.
00:59He hurt his team.
01:01You already have people upset because of the playoff game.
01:05You have people upset because this phony tour day Detroit with no serious contract talks.
01:10And now you drop this in two weeks out from the deadline.
01:14People are saying, ship his ass out of town.
01:16And what was his comment just a couple weeks ago?
01:19I want to be here for this year.
01:21Yeah.
01:22However, he ended that sentence for the rest of this year.
01:24Foot in mouth.
01:26He was also asked about some of the way fans react to him because he gets some of this.

01:32Fans have called him a coward, selfish Benedict Arnold.

01:53And he's not wrong in saying that in a lot of things that people will, you know, spout
01:59from the stands or from behind the fence as you walk by.

02:55Would they be willing to trade him?
02:57Has been an ongoing discussion for years now.
02:59What would they actually hope to get back?
03:02According to rival executives who presumably have discussed this with the Tigers, they want
03:06to thread the needle and they want to get back controllable starting pitching plus prospects.
03:10In other words, if we lose Scoobel, we don't want to lose and be down an arm.
03:15We want to be able to replace some of that production and get prospects, which felt backwards
03:20to me when I read it, because I feel like they have enough arms to stay in it this year.
03:25Yeah.
03:25And then they can always spend to replace Mize, Flaherty, and Scoobel if they lose all three.
03:32And they already have Reese Olsen coming back, Jackson Jobe coming back.
03:35They have Melton and Montero and Valdez all coming back next season.
03:40I would just take the best return.
03:41If it happens to be a bright young arm, great.
03:44Well, and if you're looking for major league ready players, odds are that a team is going
03:51to give you a, it's not going to be a one for one swap because you're not going to get
03:55the talent back.
03:55That's why you add the prospects.
03:57But if a team is willing to give up one of their starting pitchers because they're upgrading
04:03with Tarek Scoobel, that's a much different conversation than everybody saying, well, go
04:07get yourself a major league ready bat.
04:09Teams aren't, it's not a one for one for the team that is competing for a playoff spot or
04:13a possible shot at the World Series to bring in a starting pitcher yet give up something
04:18in the lineup.
04:19Are you at all concerned that they're pigeonholing themselves?
04:21If that's true, that it has to be this type of return as opposed to more of an open
04:27ended depends who's calling, depends what prospects we want the best return possible.
04:32So this is a report from two rival general managers.

05:18So I think with the emergence of Melton and Montero, the fact that if you trade Scoobel,
05:23but keep Mize or Flaherty and you have Valdez and you got Job coming back, like I think the
05:29need for a starting pitcher isn't there both this year and in the future.

05:38I know you can never have enough arms.

05:42And I know the system miners down doesn't have as many high end arms.

05:46I know that they we were concerned that they were going to put Mize on maybe a 10 day

05:53So maybe this is in part reaction to what we don't know if Mize is going to be able
05:58to make every start because he's had this on on again, off again groin issue.
06:03And Flaherty is now the one that is on there and he's unavailable for what 15 days.
06:08So maybe they're looking at it as well, we still have to have arms to fill.

07:03So you could argue.

07:05And this is instantly what raised a red flag for me is like, where was the communication
07:13between Tarek Scoobal or Scott Boris and the Tigers organization?
07:20Like, that's where I think it is.
07:22I don't I don't know if there is any recourse for the Tigers to say, well, hey, we lost our
07:27arbitration, but not all the facts were present.

07:33So he didn't come clean.
07:34I mean, now it goes around all the different sports.
07:38I mean, look at what we have to do if we go to a job.
07:42We're going to say, hey, you need a physical.
07:44Well, you need to go to the minute clinic to make sure you're not on anything.

08:14So this is going to point a lot of ire towards Scoobal for how we handled it.

08:23Do the Tigers share any blame in this, though, in that they played this game in arbitration
08:30where if they had come to him with a more firm, fair offer, he signs it and then gets
08:34the surgery.
08:35I'm not trying to get let him off the hook.
08:36I'm simply asking if the Tigers have any culpability.

08:44going to win arbitration.
08:45Let's get a number more commiserate with what you're worth for the one year.

08:54the maximum amount and they weren't going to come with a number of 25 or 26 because
08:59now all of a sudden it ramps up what they're going to they lose part of their case.
