02:14down i'm just i'm excited i'm excited to have you definitely definitely i'm excited to be here as well
02:21thank you so emptiness we've i think i've i've had emptiness before to the point where you know
02:28depression kind of settled in for a minute there but but you can't be depressed when you have so
02:33many amazing people like yourself coming on the show so what inspired you to write emptiness and
02:38and how did these experiences shape you the message of your book uh it's a god-inspired work
02:46uh is rooted into my personal journey uh it reflects the pain and the hurt that i experienced
02:52from childhood even in into adulthood i lost my mom at a very early age uh although my biological
02:59father was present i feel i still struggle with the feeling of abandonment uh and so living uh with
03:06my aunt and living with others uh i still felt uncomfortable unwanted uh violated at times um but even in
03:16this experience i may have a testimony that god gave me his power of healing and so it is revealed
03:25uh in this book how he meets us in our brokenness and restore us from the inside out oh my
03:32gosh my
03:33gosh i'm so sorry that you lost your mom soon i i mean you know it it affects the loss
03:39of a parent
03:40a loving parent i'd have to say i have to define that is traumatic no matter when you lose but
03:47there's an
03:48emptiness or a void of maybe learning from that person if you lose them too soon and so you know
03:55that i can i can i can't i can empathize with you but i don't understand it you know what
04:00i mean because
04:00it didn't happen to me it happened to me in the later and later in life but it still hurts
04:05because
04:06you know you love them you love them so how do you define emotional emptiness and
04:13emptiness and why did you you think so many people struggle with that
04:19it's an emotion that is um suppressed uh unresolved and when these feelings um they they develop over
04:30time uh due to the that undressed pain or trauma uh or that behavior pattern that we build so when
04:38this
04:38happens it leaves us um untreated uh it take root uh it began to shape our thoughts it began to
04:47shape
04:47our behavior our identity and then it begins to just be pour out of our heart and so to do
04:53that
04:54you're not realizing in due time you are taking what you feel on the inside and you're living it
05:00out day to day you're pouring it on other people that don't deserve it so it's those emotions that have
05:06not been resolved needing to be resolved they've been suppressed over the years and i just think that
05:12uh it becomes a void it becomes that that emptiness inside of us that needs to be sealed and god
05:19is
05:19the only one that i know that can feel it because he's in mind true that true that true that
05:25i'll tell
05:26you what we got to just go there true that you know my gosh my gosh you know so i
05:33i understand
05:35how this has shaped you but but can you just can you share a personal story or antidote from the
05:42book
05:42that highlights your journey from the emptiness to spiritual fulfillment um so one will be it started
05:51you know a lot of it starts in your childhood so again i lost my mom when i was six
05:56years old
05:57uh i had a family member to come in and try to keep the family together uh in the midst
06:03of that um
06:05being a young child didn't know just wanted to be loved but i was violated uh i was molested i
06:12uh
06:14i was uh my virginity was taken and i was i was just violating it so that led me as
06:21i got older as a
06:22teenager as a young adult um that you know you become promiscuous you become looking for love in all
06:28wrong places and you you trying to find and feel that void that hurt get rid of it uh feel
06:35like
06:35you're worthy um don't feel ashamed and guilt and so it just came to a point where i had to
06:42reach out
06:42and i i you know uh reached out to spiritual leaders and they prayed over me and talked to me
06:48um reading the word um not knowing exactly what i was understanding and getting clarity as i do today
06:56but it helped me and then just being open and honest about where i was and just allowing the
07:03word the the mentoring um to bring that up up root that out of me so now today i know
07:10what true love is
07:11and i wouldn't i know what true love looks like i hear you i hear you wow i'm so sorry
07:17you know i don't
07:18know many people who have not been molested that's sad it is that's sad it's really truly sad i don't
07:27know many people even even the people who are really really kind of like hovered over as a child by
07:34their
07:34parents some of them slipped through the cracks too um because it was a family member or someone that
07:40they thought they trusted and and obviously they could not trust them so yeah it can be a friend
07:49a family member it could be at school and for me it was a family member yeah my gosh my
07:56gosh so
07:57how can someone begin to invite god's presence into their inner void when they're feeling
08:02distant or disconnected from faith one you have to i i truly believe you got to acknowledge the feeling
08:11um be honest with what you're experiencing um take action and that action will be is to get uh
08:20with someone that is of strong faith um someone that is rooted that can um navigate you uh help
08:30facilitate you through the word uh really uh tarry with that person um to help you because it's not
08:36something that's gonna um be you're gonna be healed of overnight but taking those actions um beginning
08:44to address the root cause where did this come from where is them from because a lot of times we
08:49don't
08:49want to go back and visit that we don't want to visit where it started from what is the root
08:54of it
08:54and then seeking that help seeking that help uh don't be afraid to reach out for support um
09:00whether it be spiritual whether it be someone that uh you you know that you can truly confide in
09:06and then in that time frame just allow god just to heal you and it just comes over time
09:13allowing him to heal you inviting you into the inviting him into the process
09:18so you're healed yeah so are there any daily practices that you suggest people do or or any
09:24steps that they you recommend they they they do to fulfill their emotional emptiness uh with spiritual
09:31wholeness well as far as me it's it's more of i do read the word i i i do read
09:40the word a lot
09:41i i just i i do a lot of worshiping uh thanking god for where i am because i know
09:47it could have been
09:48a total different outcome for me yeah um just uh seeking that that daily meditation of living um i know
09:57we can't all live or we we should strive to live a stress-free life um decluttering our minds of
10:05other
10:06people um thoughts about you it becomes hard but decluttering your mind and just focusing on truly
10:14who i am and who i want to become um and you know reading devotionals help me um reading books
10:23uh
10:23concerning the areas where i felt empty at uh anger bitterness how do i get this under control
10:30not so much of a coping mechanism but how can i handle this and and uh acknowledge the triggers
10:38when it happens um so that i can cope with you know deal with it in a better in a
10:43more positive way
10:45um helps me so that's why i included the the devotion at the end of the book where those different
10:51feelings that i felt i created a a reflection um a mini devotion with a reflection and then you have
10:59time to write about how you feel and then there's a prayer to close you out sweet sweet you know
11:06i
11:06know that a lot of people have support when things like that happens you know um some people have told
11:12me that no one believed them when they told them that this happened what kind of support system did
11:17you have behind you and did you reveal that in the book um the support system that i had behind
11:23me
11:23is i um i had a spiritual mom and then i had a um a young lady that um i
11:33drew uh close to and confided
11:35in she was much older than i was uh at church and we talked about uh the things that i
11:41was facing
11:42and a lot of times i just journal my feelings um i just journal what i felt and um if
11:50when i needed to
11:51really compartmentalize them you know i reached out to them and talked to them um and then you know
11:59of course uh i was able to uh become a part of a ministry and that uh pastor there really
12:06helped me
12:06to see you just like a dead fig tree you got leaves but your fruit is dead because of the
12:13roots um that
12:15said at the end of it and we just he just acknowledged all the you know showed me all my
12:20roots and he just dealt you know in counseling he just outside of counseling him and his wife supported
12:27me you know just having that support system helped me get through it yeah yeah uh you know you know
12:35how
12:35when you read a book and you can read between the lines what would be one of the things that
12:39is
12:39between the lines in your book that most people would probably get
12:45um they will probably get this is this young lady is um she's open about how she's feeling because she
12:55has a a desperate desire for others to be to be healed um to be whole um because when we're
13:05not
13:07we just that impacts that that really impacts others in a in a a very negative way um and so
13:16to be able to see themselves in the book as they're reading it and realizing that hey i'm not in
13:23this
13:23alone there is someone um that has gone through this and now can walk me through it um i think
13:31that's what
13:31they'll get out of it because oftentimes we feel like we're alone in this um that we're the only
13:36one feeling these pains and feeling the hurt and feeling the disappointment until we really um began
13:42to communicate with other people or read other uh articles um you know yeah books that we can relate to
13:52um yeah what was the one piece of information that you got from someone else that you put in the
13:59book
13:59like something that uh something that you kind of live by now that you got from someone uh older than
14:05you or someone more experienced than you before you wrote the book or is there there um i was reading
14:12a book and i stand by it and i oftentimes uh being a school teacher i tell this to my
14:19students um we're
14:22not defined by our environment um and so sometimes we look at our environment and we allow it to define
14:30us and we we move in that motion we move in that way but our potential uh our life our
14:38purpose our plan
14:39is not defined by our environment do our environment have uh some kind of foundation or some kind of
14:44impact yes but do i have to live in in that moment or what the environment showing me every day
14:53you know i see the alcoholic i see the the verbal abuse so do i have to live that no
15:01because that's
15:02not my plan that's not my purpose that's not my life and so i read that in a book um
15:08and it you know
15:09it really stuck with me that you never let your uh environment define you because your environment can be
15:15compact of a whole lot of different things yeah yeah well you know i absolutely love what you've done
15:22you've taken it and you've healed yourself how long did it really take you and are you still going
15:27through that healing process because i know that sometimes you know i revert back to oh my gosh i
15:33can't believe she's gone i can't believe he's gone you know what i mean and it's like i feel like
15:36an
15:36orphan sometimes like i i need to be in an orphanage or something but i'm i'm too old for that
15:41but you
15:41know sometimes i just kind of revert back and it's just it's hilarious to think that way but at the
15:46same
15:46time it's like you feel that way you know because the one person that you used to go to is
15:53no longer
15:53available so um i am still in some areas because some things as i got older um that i i
16:03had i dealt
16:04with as as being as an adult um that i'm still healing from and that that was um things i
16:11experienced
16:12in my marriage but uh far as my childhood and coming into being a young adult even today i
16:19sometimes often think about how how would it have been or how would my life have been if my mom
16:25was
16:26still here you know how would it have gone and sometimes i play those moments where you know she would
16:33come in from work get those fresh crispy cream donuts and we just sit in there drinking orange juice
16:40and then we lay up on the couch together and watch young and the restless you know and i think
16:46about
16:46those moments and i was like well i wonder what would it really been like but i also think about
16:51um
16:53now i can you know i went through all of that and god healed me about to get it get
16:59emotional he healed
17:01me at the right time because now i didn't pour those emotions and that hurt into my children yeah
17:10and i was able to show them love the love that i didn't receive as you know after my mom
17:16passed away
17:17um received as i was growing up yeah everybody was doing the best they could to be present for my
17:23brothers you know my siblings and they was you know everybody was doing what they could to be
17:27you know a provider but nothing can take a place of the mom where you know where is mom and
17:33you know
17:33being healed at the right time when it came to me having children of my own so now i can
17:40show them
17:41real love i can embrace them and you know they don't have to experience this anger they don't
17:46have to experience this bitterness that i had you know but they did experience some of the resentment or
17:52you know that i felt as i you know being you know with my husband you know we going we
17:56went through some
17:57things but now we are at a very peaceful place and you know it hurt um when my son say
18:03you all at the
18:04best place of your life right now and i was like oh well you was really paying attention we thought
18:09we
18:10was hiding everything um but you know but as far as my childhood i just thank god that you know
18:16he gave
18:17me that right in the nick of time you know to really be able to cultivate them in a loving
18:23environment
18:24that you know they can build their you know they they're going to have their own emotions
18:29their emotions is not built off of what they parent poured into them um so that's that that's the beauty
18:36of it yeah i hear you i hear you and it's beautiful that our lives are not really reflective of
18:42our parents
18:42lives that our lives are can be different and can be more fulfilling and you know sometimes we just
18:49don't know the plan of the most high and we just have to roll with it just have to roll
18:54with it you
18:55know and i'm glad that you are healed in some aspects and still healing in others and that your
19:00marriage is going well you know that it's it's important that we learn and try to impart in our
19:08children what we didn't have as children uh and i know a lot of people say well you're trying to
19:14make up for something you didn't have yeah yeah i am i am i literally am yes yes and so
19:21yeah it's not
19:21an insult i am really doing it and i love that you put your book out emptiness and that you're
19:28you're
19:28talking to people who may have felt empty and and may still feel empty and may have lost their
19:37parents at a young age and just never been able to maybe recuperate from that and and fill that void
19:45you know if you were talking to someone face to face and you had to tell them something from your
19:52book or you know talk to them about it and kind of get them started what would you tell them
19:58hmm it's a lot there um i would tell them to um
20:13let release the pain and place it with joy happiness peace um because
20:26carrying that pain for so long we don't realize that it deteriorates the inside of us
20:36sometimes our sickness don't necessarily come from food or it don't necessarily come from
20:42another genetic it comes sometimes it comes from the pain and the hurt that has been so rooted in us
20:50for so long and it overwhelms us i would tell them to elect release the hurt it will be it
20:59will do you
21:00well to release it because then it would allow you to experience the peace and the joy that god has
21:10for
21:10us and even as being a non-believer there is still a joy for you there is still a life
21:16or peace for you
21:17all you have to do is release your hurt just release your hurt if if you are not a believer
21:23of god you can still release your hurt and experience something that you never experienced
21:29before that will make you feel so much better on the inside because believe it or not our trauma our
21:36pain our disappointment when we hold on to it's just like cancer it just spreads it spreads and it
21:43takes over your thought process and it it takes it just really takes over you and then have you in
21:50a place of depression i don't want to do i don't want to go i don't want to move and
21:54then before you know it
21:56life has passed us by but if we just release it acknowledge it take action seek help and just allow
22:07god to heal you and if you don't if you're not a believer whoever you have been led to to
22:13be your
22:14support african-american people don't believe in going to psychiatrists and they i ain't laying on
22:20nobody couch i ain't giving nobody all my business but that's the best place if you're not going to give
22:26it if you're not going to if you're not faith if you're not a believer over to god and wait
22:31on him to
22:32do it then go to go to one and allow them to heal you because your hurt hurt other people
22:39and until
22:39you get healed from it you're gonna keep hurting other people wow wow wow amazing that's great advice
