01:04But I mean, we have to talk. We really have to talk because I don't know. But we can be
01:11very good on Dream Chasers Radio.
01:12Hi, guys. My name is Dr. Yaya Diamond. I am the host and founder of Dream Chasers Radio. And I'm
01:17so very excited to be here. And I really, truly am trying to be good. Am I good? You need
01:21to comment below to tell me if I'm good or not.
01:24And if you know me, don't say a word. Don't you dare say a word. I'm telling you. I'm coming
01:29after you. Anyway, so we have an amazing guest on the show today. She has been laid off, but she's
01:35still going.
01:36And I can relate to that. I can definitely relate and feel that right there. You don't stop. Who told
01:44you life stopped? Because if life doesn't stop, you don't stop. You just keep going. And so did she. And
01:49I want to welcome her to the show. Thank you so much for joining me, girlfriend. How you doing?
01:55It is so great to be here, Dr. Yaya. Thank you for having me.
01:59Allison, I'm telling you, you have just look at you on that camel. Did it spit on you? Is it
02:08true? Is it true? They spit?
02:11They are, you know, but they're really trying to conserve the camels in Egypt right now. So I really cherish
02:18that photo now. But that is a place you absolutely need to go to.
02:23I didn't know. I had no idea they're trying to conserve. You're going to have to tell us what's going
02:28on. You're going to have to let us know what's going on. Because, you know, us around the world, we
02:31don't get no, we don't get no, how would I say, viable news, if I should say it that way.
02:39You know what I mean? We get news, but it's mostly not viable. It's just, it's just stuff.
02:45You know, I'd like to know what's really going on around the world today. But first, let's talk about you.
02:52After being laid off, you set a goal to visit all seven continents in three years, right?
02:59That is a big goal. And to be laid off too. Okay. Tell me what was the plan? What was
03:06the plan? I need to know the plan.
03:09Well, first I had to hustle. When I got laid off at that time, I was a single parent. My
03:15mother just had surgery. There was just, there was a lot of shit going on. I just had to hustle
03:20and get stable in my life. And I was very blessed. I actually got a job offer one week after
03:28I was laid off. So it was like a little holiday. Yeah.
03:32Yeah. So after I got stable, I'm like, all right, you know, I've had three consecutive back-to-back dreams
03:39about going to Egypt. I'm like, okay, Egypt is number one. I got to go there. And in a couple
03:45of months, less than one year after I got laid off, I was on the plane going to Egypt, London,
03:51and Paris.
03:53Oh, I love London. Don't, don't tease me with London. I absolutely love London. Paris is like, did you eat
04:00in the Eiffel Tower while you were there? I just had to ask.
04:03I'm going to never forget going to the Eiffel Tower. I actually went to the summit. And when my mother
04:09texted me when I was on the Eiffel Tower, I said, mom, I got to FaceTime with you right now,
04:14immediately. I said, mom, I am on the summit of the Eiffel Tower. Just months ago, I was all the
04:22way on the lowest low of my life. And here I am on the summit of the Eiffel Tower.
04:27Wow. Wow. I've been there many times and it is beautiful. You got to eat in the restaurant next time
04:33you go. I'm not going to lie. Save a little bit extra money, money girl. Cause I'm telling you, it
04:39was wonderful. The food there was just awesome. So, okay. So your journey combines wellness travel with unique experiences, like
04:48exploring cafes around the world.
04:50How did you kind of integrate the wellness practices into your travel routine? And if you do happen to go
04:57to the Eiffel Tower, their stuff is pretty organic. I'm going to let you know.
05:04It was just an honor to be there. I wasn't originally planning to go to France, but my background is
05:10in social work. I received my, my bachelor's degree in psychology. And then I went on to get a master's
05:17in social work.
05:18And in my experience, I worked with people living with mental health and substance abuse. And that translated to working
05:26with, in the hospital, working with infectious diseases. I've worked in kidney dialysis health as well. So that's how I
05:34really, I'm a healer.
05:35That's why I feel like my purpose is, is to bring healing to people. So I'm just being true to
05:41who I am and really focused on wellness and really transformative experience. Because leaving the United States and just exploring
05:50the world has really transformed who I am in so many ways, amazing ways.
05:55Oh, oh, girl, you got to leave the United States in order to understand what's really going on around the
06:00world. And I absolutely love that what you're saying, because I'm more of a naturopath as well.
06:06I have my HHA, but I don't use it only because I just don't have the time to do HHA
06:11work. But I do have my HHA.
06:13And it was such a pleasure to work with the elderly that I worked with and the people I worked
06:19with. I had one paraplegic gentleman that I worked with.
06:24And one woman who I, you know, you can't really divulge, but there was some stuff going on. All I
06:30had to do was add vitamin C to her diet, and it took care of everything.
06:33And I was like, you know, they don't know this. They don't know the health behind like just adding vitamin
06:39C to a regimen and what it can do for you. You know, they don't, they don't understand.
06:45So it is a beautiful thing to help people, especially along those lines of health and wellness and just, and
06:52especially people who don't know, you know, oh my gosh. Wow.
06:57So you can, okay. Can you share a memorable moment that you had while you were out there, you know,
07:03in your travels? Yay. Tell me.
07:05Oh my goodness. I have to say Egypt of all the places I've been to Egypt is my favorite. I,
07:13I, I have actually the, before I went to Egypt, I had three back-to-back dreams about going to
07:20Egypt and I actually returned to Egypt a second time.
07:25I had several dreams after I went to Egypt and it was amazing. I'll never forget those dreams. An Egyptian
07:32god Shu and the Egyptian goddess Neftis actually appeared in my dreams four times.
07:39Oh my God.
07:40They were telling me in the dreams, you need to go to Egypt. I'm like, okay, I'm going to Egypt.
07:45So there's just something about Egypt that I, I just, I love Egypt. That place is just, when I'm there,
07:51I, I, I, I have deja vu when I'm there.
07:53There's just something like, I felt like I was there, like in a past life or something. I just, I
07:58love that place.
08:00You know, I have to say, and don't tell no one, don't tell no one. Listen, I always say this.
08:07And, and this is something that happened to me when my mother was passing away.
08:10Um, and she was not, um, responding anymore to any kind of, she wasn't holding your hand. She was just
08:20breathing. It was very shallow, but she was, you know, she was, her body was kind of shutting down.
08:26And I was in the garage and I remember I opened the door, the side door to the garage to
08:32go out the backyard on the side of the house.
08:34And I opened the door and all of a sudden I hear my name and I get pushed and it
08:42was my mother.
08:42And I'm looking like, and my husband comes down and he says, what's wrong? Now, obviously that's, it was not,
08:51it was not a dream.
08:52I wasn't like gone or anything or psychologically just having a nervous breakdown.
08:57I literally was at the door, open the door. And the next thing, you know, I'm four feet back and
09:04I'm like, mom.
09:08And I walked to the door and I'm like, that's impossible. I'm looking around. There's nobody there. There's no wind.
09:17There's nothing. It's just the backyard. And I'm going, okay. So I go and I get my phone. I go
09:26back out to the garage.
09:27So I have to go inside to get my phone, go back out to the garage. I'm looking for something,
09:30somebody, any evidence to prove that I am not going crazy.
09:35Right. I called the nurse on staff and you know what they told me? We can't really talk about this.
09:43And I'm not sure if you've been, or you've been around something like this, or if you've experienced this, but
09:47please let me know.
09:49He said, cause he's a hospice nurse. I can't, we can't really talk about it.
09:53We, we've signed waivers saying that unless we've been asked to explain certain things, we can't literally just divulge this
10:02information to you, but she's aeroplaning.
10:09She's aeroplaning. She's aeroplaning. She's outside of her body. And the one person that she wants to, to be with
10:18before she leaves this earth is you hurry up and get here.
10:24Now I was in my pajamas. I was in my house shoes. I hadn't eaten. It was seven o'clock
10:31in the morning.
10:33I looked at my husband and went, I got to go. I jumped in my car just the way I
10:41was and went straight there the next morning.
10:48She was not holding my hand, not even a little bit anymore.
10:54It was like, she, she left, left that body. It was like the body was shutting down.
11:01And I'm telling you that it freaked me out. So understanding the, it was a harder death
11:12for me because I knew she wasn't in that body no more. I started looking up, like, where'd you go?
11:21Where are you? Where'd you go? It was a harder death for me because I know, and I knew she
11:29wasn't in there.
11:29That's not my mom. That's a body. Where did mom go? Where did mom go?
11:33Where did mom go? So I truly believe that if you are sent back, there is nothing you can do.
11:42Your behind is coming back. There's nothing you can do.
11:48Yeah. And, and, you know, I truly believe, like you said, another lifetime, another, you are connected somehow,
11:58somehow, someway to something that's beyond our comprehension. And I truly believe that.
12:05And I didn't want to go too much into, you know, into that, but I did, I did want to
12:09say,
12:10and I wanted to kind of, you know, affirm you that this is true. And yeah, if your butt's supposed
12:17to be coming back, you coming back, who knows what you're coming back at. You're coming back.
12:22I'm coming back. Wow. Oh my goodness. Wow. Bless you. You, you, you, you are an incredible,
12:30I mean, Dr. Yaya, you, you, you just to be honored with the doctorate, with the artistry,
12:38the beauty that you create, that your mother created. Jesus has a plan for all of us. We all
12:45have a plan. We don't, we don't know when it is, but Jesus had a plan and she blessed
12:50the world. She blessed the world with. Yes, she did. Yes, she did. And you know what? I
12:57want to get back to you because you were laid off and you were like, well, I'm just going
13:02to go to Egypt. You were like, I ain't got nothing, no, I'm just going to go to Egypt. I
13:13see
13:14my F you to the car. Let me tell you, I'm like, homegirl was like, oh, okay. Y'all
13:21done left, y'all done left a good one because I'm out here. You even created a hundred page
13:27guide travel journal to help others dream and plan and reflect on their journeys. What inspired
13:33you besides the trip, of course, to do the journal and, and, and how do you recommend people
13:39use this journal? This was inspired by my layoff. This company I was at, I was in a managerial
13:47position and I actually met, it was a fairly qualified healthcare center. And I oversaw
13:52HIV, HIV prevention and care program and the LGBTQ program. And in that role, I brought in
14:00millions of dollars to this company. Everyone knew me, even the CEO of the company knew about
14:07him. He actually gave me access to his calendar. That's how much he was impressed by me. And
14:12you know, it was, it was fucked up. I, I, you know, I took time off of work. My mother
14:16was ill. This is my mother. I don't care what's going on. I'm going to make sure if my mother
14:21is dealing with stuff, I'm going to take care of her. And you know, I get notified before
14:26I'm supposed to return that I need to return to the HR office. I go to the HR office and
14:32they
14:32tell me I'm laid off. And I, I just, you know, I wasn't mad at the HR manager. I actually
14:38knew
14:38the HR manager. I actually gave her a hug. I, I, you know, I'm like, you don't shoot the
14:42messenger. I'm like, she's just telling the message. I knew she had nothing to do with
14:45it. I'm like, so you use me for all of this. And then I'm let go. And I just felt
14:51angels
14:52around me. I was like, you know, it's something good is going to come out of this. And that's
14:56what really inspired that I, to create this journal in the United States alone, millions
15:03of people get laid off. I mean, here, like I'm here in California and Santa Clara County,
15:09the tech capital. And I mean, I'm always hearing in the news about people getting laid off.
15:14And that's what inspired me to create the, from layoff to seven continents journal. And
15:20my blog is to inspire people, no matter what happens in life, your wise ups and downs, never
15:27give up, take action every day, every day. You know, I hustled. I, I'm like, okay, I need
15:33to get financially stable. I made sure I did that. Once I was stable, I'm like, all right,
15:37I'm going to save. And then you make your dreams happen. So whatever your, your dreams or whatever
15:42goals you have, whether you want to travel, if you want to start your own business, take action
15:48every day. That's right. Girl, you went to Florence, Italy, Paris, France, Bali, Indonesia,
15:57uh, Ibiza, Spain. Oh, India. And what is that? Oh girl. I can't even pronounce that. Malaysia.
16:08Oh my gosh. The Batu case is so amazing. Those steps, those rainbow colors sets 272 steps. It took
16:17me about 10 minutes to get up to the very top. And let me tell you, you get rewarded with
16:21the most
16:22amazing views of Malaysia. That place is amazing. I definitely want to go back to it.
16:27Wow. You know, when people think of traveling, I don't think people understand that it is a
16:33liberating experience. You know, you get to see different cultures, you get to see the other half
16:39and the way other people live. And it's so much, sometimes so much more contrary to what you're so
16:45used to and been told. Do you suggest that people travel? Absolutely. And this is why I'm so grateful
16:54for my grandfather. My grandfather actually just passed away on January 12th of this year. He lived
17:00in New York all his life. My, my grandfather, um, he actually, he's the adventure in our family.
17:06He served in the U S army jumped out of an airplane 13 times and fought in war two. He
17:14got shot in the
17:15neck and his knee. And he survived that after he received his purple heart, he explored the world.
17:22I remember when I was growing up, he would always nag me. You need adventure in your life. He would
17:27tell
17:27me, jump out of airplanes, see the world. He loved going to Seychelles to Thailand, to Calcutta, India.
17:35And he used to always tell me, you need to live life to the fullest. We don't know how much
17:41time we
17:42have left. And that's what I really live by. And he did that even at 106 years young,
17:49never considered himself to be old. Even at 106, he was still a fighter who lived life to the fullest.
17:56Well, I should now, if I live in this, if I live in this body to be 106 years old,
18:03my mind will always
18:04be young. I understand that. I truly understand that. And I, and I was talking to someone the
18:10other day about how the body ages, but the mind, the spirit inside, it stays young. It wants to do
18:18it. Just the body doesn't facilitate it. That's what it is. Wow.
18:22And that's a choice. Yeah. Yeah. My gosh. My gosh. Allison girl, you are inspiration within
18:30yourself. You got the website. I want to go ahead and show people that website and your grandfather.
18:35He's so cute. He was so cute. You know how you just see people. You're like, oh,
18:43oh, that's, that's how I feel. So lay off to seven continents, girlfriend. I'm telling you,
18:50I'm absolutely loving a guided journal for turning setbacks into adventures. You did it, girl. You
18:58did it. You got that journal and it's like, okay, setbacks can be chosen or
19:06forced. That's how I figure you can either, or you will be forced to do it eventually. And if you
19:14know, you're getting ready to get set back, get ready. It's about to come. You're going to get
19:18fired. You are you about to get fired because it's time to move on. What was it like when you
19:27did move
19:28on? Was it a better situation for you? Did you find yourself in a, in a, in a place where,
19:32wow,
19:33I should have done this a long time ago? Absolutely. Getting laid off is now the,
19:39what the best things that ever happened to me. You just never know. I, of course, when I first got
19:45laid off, I was angry. I was just like, I mean, how could they do this? But then I'm like,
19:49you know
19:50what? There's something better. Yeah. Heaven. Jesus has a plan for us. And there was something better for
19:56me. And my goodness. I mean, just three years ago I was laid off and now I'm about to visit
20:03every
20:04single continent on this planet. It's just incredible to me. And I I'm really excited to
20:09go to South America and go to Antarctica. It's just incredible that now I I've been to five different
20:16continents. And it's still surreal to me. It's just, wow. Wow. Have you been Hawaii? Oh yeah.
20:25What I like you. My mother loves Hawaii. That's her spot. Oh wow. Wow. My mom went to Hawaii without
20:36me.
20:43She went to Hawaii without me. I was not a happy camper. There were two places she went without me.
20:52She went to, um, what was it? Um, she went to Japan without me and Hawaii without me.
21:00I've been to almost every place around the world, even Australia, but I've never been to Hawaii and
21:06I've never been to Japan. Oh my goodness. I had to go to school. I had to take my tests
21:16for college.
21:17I hated it. I was like, mom, she was like, no, but you know, going around the world is beautiful.
21:28I'm so happy that you've had that chance. And also that you have your book out,
21:31that it is something that people can actually use a guided journal for turning setbacks into
21:36adventures. It's not just like if you want to travel the world, but it's, it's whatever you want to do
21:41in life. Uh, turning that setback into that adventure is an amazing. If you want to travel
21:47the United States and dag on it, then travel the United States, you can figure it out. It's not that
21:53hard. You know, literally speaking, what I'm saying is you did it. You did it. What does it feel like
22:00to go from zero to a hundred?
22:06It really is indescribable. It's just, I mean, I really never imagined when
22:11I got laid off that just three years later that I would be visiting every single continent.
22:17And I really am just grateful for my grandfather. He really taught me about resiliency and perseverance.
22:24That's what he always taught me is to have hope. And that really carried me through. And this is
22:29dedicated to him sweetness, sweetness. Well, I'm going to go ahead and give you guys the website. That's
22:35going to be dream world trotter with two T's trotter, T R O T T E R dot blog, B
22:44L O G. That's
22:46dream world trotter dot blog. Be inspired, be inspired, be inspired by this young lady right here,
22:56right there. There she is. There's Alison. And there she is right there as well.
23:01And she is amazing. Seven continents, girl. And you got two more to go. I'm very, very proud of you.
23:08Very, very happy that you're doing this. Very happy. You have your master's degree
23:11and that you're doing the things that you want to do in life. And, and then you're going forward.
23:16What kind of advice do you give to people who may be in that, that position that you were in
23:22that you're
23:22no longer? And what, what do you say to them? Hmm. Keep taking action every day. Don't ever give
23:29up. Yeah. It might be cliche. You take action every single day, no matter how small it is,
23:35you make your dreams reality. There you go. Alison, did we miss anything that you like to say today?
23:42I love Egypt.
23:47I think it begs to differ that you will be going back to Egypt soon.
23:52I think so. That'll be the seventh continent plus one.
23:57You'll have to do all the things you couldn't do the first time.
24:03Yeah. Like climb the pyramid and get arrested.
24:08Yeah. I, I, I, I, I know I might, you know, next time I do want to go with my
24:16son, my son
24:17absolutely wants to go to Egypt and I want him to experience it. I want him to go on the
24:22Nile
24:22river. I want him to visit the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens that Egypt just opened
24:28up
24:28their new museum, the grand Egyptian museum. They just opened it last year and not, not even a year
24:35ago. And this museum actually has a, I mean, it has the record for the largest collection of a single
24:43civilization, everything dedicated to ancient Egypt. I, I, I, that is a must. And I absolutely
24:51am going to be going back and will be bringing my son. Yes. Yes. You have to take the kids
24:56so that
24:56they can, you know, get a little rub off for, Hey, look at what's around the world. You know what
25:01I'm
25:01saying? Wow. That is wonderful. Well, Alison, thank you so much for joining us here on dream
25:06chasers radio. And again, that website is going to be right here. Look at that beautiful website
