00:04Hi, my name is Vaishya Patel. I'm the maker of the broadcast called Life Beyond Success
00:10and a future author of the book.
00:42Be good. Be very good.
00:48I am being good. I am being so very good. I got it on my t-shirt today. I'm feeling
00:54it. I'm
00:54feeling it. Let me tell you something. I am in love with this podcast and love because I have so
01:01many amazing people here. Today I have a, well, she is a future author, but she also has her program
01:11on YouTube. I'm going to show that to you right now. It is Beyond Success. So Life Beyond Success
01:17with Vaishya Patel. And I hope I didn't destroy her name, but I am so, so happy to have her
01:26here
01:26today. Thank you so much for joining me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now I want to ask you,
01:33you know, there's so many different things that happened after COVID or during COVID or even like
01:39that re kind of configuring your life or something. Um, when did this happen for you? Because this
01:47happened for me after COVID, I went 150% into this. Yeah. So I am the entrepreneur. I was in
01:56a retail
01:56business first. Then I was in a hotel industry. Then I was in a, you know, real estate and then
02:02I'm
02:05in a, you know, real estate and then, you know, real estate and then, you know, that we make quite
02:15a bit money on that deal, but then I lost the family. And then I was sitting with my son
02:21and my son
02:21was telling me the question. I still up till today, bring the tear to my eyes. Then he said, Mom,
02:28why
02:28don't we just give all the money back to grandma and grandpa? Would they talk to us again? And
02:34that's like, hit me so hard. And I say like, you know what, I really would like to share my
02:41story
02:42and tell people then, you know, the only success, it's not just, you know, aim up our lives. We can
02:50just, you know, be successful. And I'm not against success. I'm still, you know, building and I'm still
02:55investing, but I want to, I want to tell people my story that, you know, I can, I wouldn't say
03:03convince, but I can explain myself. And hopefully that's a, you know, connect to or resonate with
03:10other people that not only successes matter, you have to be parallel success with the family, with the
03:18relationship, with, you know, whatever matter in your life. So after your needs is met, you have to be
03:25work parallel with the success and the what's matter in your life.
03:29Yeah. You know, I agree with you 150,000%. That is just something that you have to do for yourself.
03:36And all when he came up to you said that, I know you were like, Oh my, oh my gosh.
03:43Wow.
03:44And he was, he was at the, he was at the time just a nine-year-old and he was
03:49not,
03:49he was not asking the, you know, the deeper question or he's not worried about the money
03:56or the success at that stage. But he just want like, Hey, I want my grandpa and my grandma in
04:02my
04:02life. Oh, you know, the thing that children say, you know, they really bring it home. Like what's
04:09more important and they don't really have that, that adulting going on. They have what we call
04:18innocence. Such a beautiful thing. Wow. Well, you spent more than two decades building businesses,
04:26investing in real estate and pursuing success. Was there a moment when you realized achievement
04:33and fulfillment were not the same thing? So I did for a long time. I measure achievement as a success.
04:43Right. And I was like, you know what? I was building businesses, real estate investment,
04:50you know, reaching the goal and always like all of us, right? Ambitious people is what is next?
04:56What goal is next? And I'm still ambitious. I don't want to tell people that ambitious is the wrong
05:02thing. But there is a, came to the point where I had to ask myself, whatever achievement I thought
05:10going to bring me satisfaction and fulfillment, it, it is bringing in or not. And that's, that's like,
05:18that question stayed with me. And again, that story, my son asked me the question like, Hey,
05:24can we just give all the money back to my grandpa and grandpa and they will talk to us again.
05:28And that's hit me more hard than any, anything it did. I was in a room with the really, really
05:36successful people. I made the millions of dollar deals, but it just did not at that moment, it did
05:43not make me feel satisfied or fulfilled. If that, if that makes sense. It does. It makes a lot of
05:51sense
05:51because I know where you're coming from. I was making a lot of money. I was doing things that,
05:56you know, I really didn't want to do, but I was making money. And when I had the opportunity
06:02and the crossroad came to jump from one thing to another, knowing that I would be leaving that money
06:10behind, but being happy on the other end, but not in the direction I was going in, there was really
06:15no, no, no question in my mind as to where I was going to go. I just needed the support
06:21to make that
06:22happen. Right. So, wow. Yeah. And it's not the same. It truly isn't the same.
06:28It is not the same. I mean, I know we all, you know, saying like, Hey, just to, you know,
06:34achieve the goal, wanting more, wanting more. But if your answer to every question, it's a more,
06:41you're not going anywhere. No, no, you're not. Cause it's not always more.
06:47Right. A lot of times it's how happy are you going to be? Right. What's the quality of this
06:54whole decision that you're making? Right. You know, can you, can you live with yourself
06:59after this? Those are the questions. Those are the questions. Those are the questions. It's way more
07:04important than, Hey, how much more you want? What next goal you achieve or what next building you're
07:10buying? Exactly. Exactly. And I know so many people that never achieved that big, big success
07:17that most people say you have to have. Right. But they're so happy. They are so happy. You know,
07:25they, they hear, you hear them, their kids, you know, smiling or sometimes arguing backside of their,
07:32you know, the kitchen door or in the kitchen or in the living room. And they all together at dinner,
07:38they all together at the weekend. Yeah. That's exactly what success to me is. Right. You know,
07:46purpose in life success. And you, you often say that purpose isn't found it's built. Right. So
07:52right. Right. What does that mean to you? And how do we actually build purpose through our choices,
07:56our values and the way we serve others? So I think I am contradict the whole self development
08:05industry. When they say purpose, it's found it's purpose is found. So it's like people are selling
08:12us. Then, you know, when you achieve the success, that big grand question, where is my purpose?
08:18You're going to find the answer. It's a top of the summit. Right. I've been there plenty of time.
08:23I haven't found it. So what, what I comes to me, it's purpose. It's a build through the choices we
08:31make,
08:31the value we protect. And I'm not saying the value we protect when everything is great. I am saying
08:38the value we protect when it's a costing us something because everyone say, oh, we protect
08:44our value. Yeah. You can protect your value when everything gets glory and great, but are you
08:50protecting the same value when it's a cost you something? It's a cost your family. It's a cost
08:54your money. And then how we, and then the last piece of that is how we serve others, because the
09:01service is important part of the purpose. And I do not believe at this moment where I'm sitting at, then
09:08the purpose has to be that the one grand decision. And it's going to be the same throughout the life.
09:14I
09:14think how we change the purpose is change, change with it. So I would, I would have challenged people
09:21when it's a purpose is found. I do not found it. I've been in a top of the summit and
09:26I did not find
09:27it. Yeah. Yeah. I've been there too. Did you find it? I gave it up. I was like, nope, not,
09:37nope.
09:37Nah, that's not it. That's not it. And it's so true. It's like, like I said before, it's like,
09:45you get, you get to that summit, you get to the top point and you're going, where is, where is,
09:53where is my purpose? You're looking around like, this is it? Yeah. The view, the view I did not expect
10:01it.
10:01I didn't expect it either. It was pretty lonely up there. It is pretty lonely, pretty, pretty conniving.
10:08Yeah. Backstabbing and, and sad. It is. And it's, it is a very lonely. It's like when we,
10:16and then I had, I had the one, uh, the broadcast on that series. I'm, I started the series is
10:22purposes and found is a build. There's a one series coming up this Friday. And it's a say,
10:28are we climbing the wrong mountain? Because we are all so worried about how we get better at
10:34climbing, but we never worried about standing and asking, are we climbing the right mountain?
10:41Because we don't know who choose that mountain. Maybe your society choose the mountain. Maybe your
10:46parents choose a mountain before you want eligible to choose your own mountain. And are you happy
10:51climbing that mountain? So there's, I think that's all I personally do believe then we have to start
11:00asking better question because better question leads to better life. I said on every, my episode,
11:07then we have to start asking the better question.
11:11Yeah, I agree. My gosh. Oh yes. Oh, this is, this is it. This is it. So like, what is
11:19enough then?
11:20Like what, what, where do you, where do you say, okay, this is it. I mean, I, I personally don't
11:26see
11:27myself saying this is it, but I like enough, but I do see myself saying, okay, this is it. This
11:34is where I
11:35want to be in my life. This is the purpose that I have for my life. So how has your
11:40definition of
11:41success changed over the years though, especially after experiencing both the financial achievement
11:46and the, I've arrived to the personal loss, because I mean, you know, bankruptcy is every,
11:53every successful person that I know has claimed bankruptcy at one point. Right. Right. One point
11:59or another. So I'm gonna, I'm gonna take a little more time here and, and tell you the story.
12:04So for me, I, I've worked a lot. I started working when I was 16. So I worked it all
12:11my life.
12:12For the last few years, I take a back, backseat and just like, Hey, I just want to think what
12:18is
12:18actually I'm chasing. Right. Because once you are successful, you see this, like exactly what you
12:25mentioned prior, then we see the loneliness, we see the persona, then, you know, everyone put out.
12:31And then I was like, sitting and I was not taking on any new project or anything like that. I'm
12:37just
12:37saying like, I just want to take a sabbatical for a few, few years and see how the life takes
12:42what
12:42lives are teaching me, or what life is showing me where I need to go. And, and then I find
12:49out like,
12:50I lost a social skill, which is, that's the biggest issue. I have it with the, with the business and
12:57focusing so much on a goal and achievement and build the more stuff and achieving more stuff.
13:03And then it's like, Oh, wow, I can't even make the friends. I'm uncomfortable. And you know,
13:09I'm not a vulnerable person. I just like to keep everything in. And the one day I told my son,
13:15and I say like, baby, can you come with me to the grocery store? I never and I would like
13:21to admit
13:22here, I would not step in a grocery store for last probably two decades.
13:28And I was so nervous and nerve wracking for me to just to go on the grocery store and seeing
13:34so many
13:34people out there. Because I always in intimate setting in a business. Yeah, I never met more
13:42than four or five people. And I was so busy chasing the gold. I probably think I'm the only one
13:48doing
13:49this. Because I did not, you know, having a party, I did not go attend any wedding, I did not
13:56go attend
13:56baby shower, I did not attend the housewarming, I did not attend to get together nothing. I mean,
14:02I was completely in a business and completely ignored the social part of my life. Wow. And I was a
14:08sitting one day and I said, like, you know what, I have what most of the people desire. Yeah. And
14:14a lot
14:15of my friend even told me on my face, it's like a V envy of your life. And I say
14:19like you envy of my
14:20life, because outside my life looks great. Yeah, from outside looks like my life all
14:26put together. But when inside when I'm sitting inside my home, and I don't have no one to talk
14:32to, or I don't know how to call people and be a vulnerable and talk to. And that that's, that's
14:39get me to the question, what is enough. And then I come to realization, if your needs are met,
14:48then you had to pay attention on the freedom, on the peace, on the happiness, on the fulfillment.
14:55And that is enough for me. Wow. Wow. Wow. You know, you hit it, you hit it on the nail.
15:04Like
15:04the hammer did not hit my thumb this time. It actually hit the nail. It's we're driving this in,
15:10because I mean, you're right. It's, it's not about how much money you have, how much success you have,
15:16because the more you work in that business setting, the less you have kind of with other people in the
15:24interaction. And wow, just going to the store and asking your son, that must have been a turning
15:29point for you. So it is because it just like, he was like, we was, I still imagine that scenario.
15:36We was walking to the grocery store, and he knows my mama is a panic. So he start holding my
15:41hand.
15:41Mama, it's okay. No problem. Mama, I know where the things are. And I was like, 10 year old kid,
15:48know and be comfortable in the public setting. And that's like a turning point for me. It's to say,
15:53I can't be sitting inside the home. And then, you know, honestly, worried about, hey, what's my next
16:01decade going to look like? Right? Right? Wow. I have to, I have to, I have to, you know,
16:07tackling my insecurities. I have to go out and find the friends, I have to go out and communicate.
16:13And I have the experience then people are, I'm hoping, right, the whole thing that people want to know,
16:20or people want to learn, people want to, you know, sit and say like, Hey, you know what,
16:25like, I'm starting up the business, and your experience are value to somebody. Yeah. Yeah,
16:32definitely. Yeah. You know, I, I never really thought about that. I never really thought about
16:36being in a business setting, because my business setting is, it's a little bit different than
16:40everyone else's. So I never really thought about like a pure business setting, like what that would
16:45entail. And you're right, you kind of get these de-socialization, I would say, like maybe,
16:51you know, and get kind of, and get kind of shy with your, you know, with the people around you.
16:58I'm so used to having like, hundreds of people around me at one time, and maybe even thousands,
17:03because I'm a performer. And I do a lot of different, I do a lot of different speaking,
17:08engagements and master classes. So I'm always doing stuff, you know, and it's relationships,
17:14you know, it's like those, that, that experience, that life experience. So what role has relationships
17:19and family and difficult life experiences played in changing the way you think about ambition,
17:25like money, and worth sacrificing for the success, you know, the top echelon.
17:33We hear that phase all the time, right? We hear that phase. And I'm not saying we did not done
17:39it. I mean,
17:40I done it. I sacrificed a relationship. I hate to admit, but I sacrificed a relationship. I miss so
17:48many beautiful memories with my kids. I haven't, you know, when we had a good relationship with my
17:53parents, and we lived, you know, thousands of miles away, I haven't made the time to go see them.
17:59I haven't went back to India. I mean, I miss so many. And one day, I see what my son's
18:0710 birthday,
18:08and we was making that portrait, right? And I was, we was going to the old picture. And my son
18:13asked me
18:14the question, like, Mom, you wasn't there in that picture, because you wasn't there. You was at the
18:18business trip. And that also hit me hard. Like, so how many pictures I wasn't there?
18:26And it's, you know, it's not about the picture, but it's about the memory you miss.
18:30Yeah. And I think I think we all had to ask the question, then we are chasing the goal, which
18:38is
18:38nothing wrong in chasing the goal. But what is the costing us? Because we have to ask that parallel
18:44question. Because what we saying, Hey, you know what, when I achieve this, I can make up for this,
18:50we can make up for this life is not guaranteed. We doesn't know those people are we are sacrificing
18:56while we climbing the mountain, they're going to be there or not. Yeah, because we have to be
19:02understand that when we climbing on a mountain, and then the people left behind that picture get
19:08blurrier and blurrier and blurrier and blurrier. And after a while, we can't see them. And it was so
19:14much further ahead, then it's impossible for us to return back to the our lives what we are once desire.
19:22Yeah. Yeah. My gosh, you know, and you talk about going to India, you know, it's so cool, because
19:28and this kind of takes it away, but it kind of puts it in perspective. I didn't know my grandfather
19:34growing up, we didn't have the slightest idea who he was, if he was still alive or dead, he happens
19:40to
19:40be gone on. He's gone. But I didn't know my background. I didn't know that side of my background.
19:46I didn't know my history, find out that I am black, Indian from India, and Scandinavian on my
19:54grandfather's side. Oh, wow. And we missed out of those, those all. Yeah. And I had no idea that
20:00there were certain things about me that most people would see and say, Hey, you, you're especially my
20:06daughter, you got to be like Indian or something because she looks Indian more than I do. My son
20:12looked more Indian, my, my grandchildren looking, and I'm going, why is this? Why is why? You know
20:18what I mean? Right. So finding out that he has never been in any of the pictures, right? He was
20:24not there when I grew up at all. Wow. And sacrificing that whole thing was, it must have been really
20:33hard
20:34for him because he knew about my mother, but he didn't know about me. Oh, wow. So we sacrifice so
20:39much for
20:39success. Correct. That we, we end up being absent in everything. Right. That's crazy. And I think the
20:48more, more successful people or the people achieved in their lives and what they sacrificed, I think we
20:56all need to get together at the some point and teaching the youth then, Hey, you know what success is
21:03good. Achievement is good. But what is cost? You have to start knowing the cost and you think that cost
21:11worth it. If it's worth it, go on, achieve whatever you want to achieve, run billion dollar company.
21:17But if you think that the cost is too much for you to bear, then you have to think you
21:23have to change
21:23your climb. You have to change your mountain. You have to know the change. It's not the failure,
21:30because what we're thinking in our lives that if we, it's really easy, right? If your business
21:36are failing, really easy to shut the business down, start the new one. Right. If you hit the job,
21:41it's really easy to change the job. But what if the job is rewarding? What if it's a business
21:49I'm making the 10x? That's the time that question become relevant. And that's the time it's a need,
21:57a lot of courage to change. Because at that time, we realized, Hey, you know what, my business doing
22:03good, my job is rewarding, what people gonna think? Yes, miss in everyone's life, I would say,
22:12what other people going to say? Yeah, when they less care about you, they probably moved on,
22:20they say something to you that hurt you, and they moved on in their lives.
22:25Yeah, yeah, you're right. You're right. Wow. Well, you know, after, and I have to bring this in,
22:31after COVID, a lot of people kind of reevaluated their lives, they kind of looked at their lives,
22:35and they said, you know what, I'm missing my family, I'm missing this. And they had that whole
22:39year, what were we down, a year? We were down a whole year, unexpectedly, about a whole year over
22:45here. And, and gradually entered back into the workplace after about a year. But, you know,
22:53people were working from home and not missing family life, right? And things changed, right?
22:59Most people went back to what they were doing. And unfortunately, nothing really, it kind of gave
23:05them a vacation, but they're back to missing things. But I couldn't do that. Right? You know,
23:10I couldn't, I couldn't go back to, you know, being successful, but yet missing everything in my home.
23:17Correct. So you created life beyond success, right? And I think that is a great way of saying it's life
23:24beyond the success, be successful. But what about living your life beyond that, you know, and also
23:32about building a me loop? Is that me loop? Yeah, me loop. Yeah, that's, that's true. It's the same,
23:38everything, it's a separate, but everything, it's a one, it's like a cohesive, right? Because ultimately,
23:45I want everything turning to the service. And a me loop is the one, it's really close to my heart,
23:53because a me loop, it's a for the non for profit for the mental health, youth mental health,
23:59health, and then postpartum mental health, because not many, many people are talking about it,
24:05right? I've been through postpartum, and then my brother been through, you know, when we was going
24:10through this dispute on a business, he also mentioned that he is was struggling also. And
24:17that one thing is one thing I would like to mention it here, in our community, as an Indian community,
24:24we still have kind of stigma around it. And I want to break that stigma. And I want to use
24:31people
24:31to help without hesitation comes to anyone, their mentor, their teachers, their parents,
24:38their uncleans, whoever they feel comfortable to, to come and ask us a question, then hey, I am
24:45struggling, I need the help. Yeah, before it's too late, I want to be creating a system,
24:51then they come to us before it's too late. Yeah, so it's a kind of preventative measure,
24:58then they come to us before it's too late. Yeah, yeah. You know, there's a lot of people out there
25:05that that are, oh, it's not manly to ask for help, or, you know, I don't want to seem weak,
25:12you know, but in that moment that you don't want to seem weak, you're your weakest,
25:16because you won't reach out and ask for help. I would say that you're not alone in anything that
25:23you are going through. There are people that have gone through it. It's just different types
25:27of situations, but the end result is always the same. End result is always the same. You're right.
25:33It's always the same. It's always the same. Reaching out for help. It's just amazing. So
25:38these two different projects, right, they connect to a bigger question that you're trying to answer in
25:45your work, right? Right, right. So the word life beyond success is just I want to start the
25:50communication around purpose is built, it can found. That's just the biggest myth we have to
25:56get away from. Yeah, then we have to start realizing that every choices we make, even in our daily life,
26:03it's a building our purpose. It's not always and I give, I give that, you know, my podcast,
26:09the example of like, you are a parent, you're telling your children something and you know,
26:13you know, I know, when we're talking to our kids, we think they don't listen to us. I said,
26:18they never listen to anything we said. And suddenly 30, 40 years later, they are telling
26:23same advice to their kids. And then we realized that, Oh, wow, I did have the impact. So I want
26:30the people to know everything we do, they have an impact. Yeah. And I love to use the metaphor as
26:38a
26:38bridge and a lighthouse. Sometimes our impact is a bridge, because we carry people across. And then
26:45you see the impact right away. And sometimes it's like a lighthouse behavior. And we don't see the
26:51impact for years, maybe never. But assumption, it's like with our action, it's never impacted. I think that's,
26:59that has to change. Oh, yeah, every, every action we do, or every, everything we said,
27:07have a reaction in other people's lives. Wow. And I see that you're doing so much on your,
27:15on your YouTube channel. It's amazing. And I absolutely love it. You know, gratitude wins,
27:21what really remains, things like that. Those are the those are the actual things that people need. So,
27:27you know, before you reach out, go ahead and go to the YouTube channel, I'm going to put it up
27:31here
27:31so that you guys can see that the YouTube channel I've already subscribed to is Life Beyond Success 26.
27:39It's the is the at or the place where you're going to find it here on YouTube. Also Life Beyond
27:45Success
27:46with Valshu Patel. But you know, I do have one more question that I need to ask you. And you
27:53know,
27:53I feel like if someone's listening, who has achieved a lot or still chasing that next big thing. Yeah,
28:01you know, but they feel like something's missing. And that's what I felt like. I just felt like, okay,
28:06you're getting to the next plateau, but you're getting there in a way that everyone that you love
28:12is being left behind purposefully, even though they don't want to be left behind. I can't do that.
28:18You know, what question would you want them to ask themselves today?
28:25So there is a quite, quite a bad question. I think people can ask, but the one I always think
28:31people
28:32should ask, then what I am building, it's building me. Because it's, it's very important,
28:42then we are asking the question, then hey, you know what, I am achieving the goal, I am building the
28:49next big things, or I am doing this, but what is a building us inside? That is a very important
28:56question to ask ourselves. Yeah. Because everything we're building outside is building us inside.
29:05That is huge. That is huge. And you're right. You're right. Whatever we're building is also
29:10building ourselves. Wow. Vasu, thank you so much for being on the show. I appreciate it. Is there
29:16anything that you would like to say that we missed today? No, I think we covered everything. I would
29:21like the viewer to at least to go and check the my YouTube channel out life beyond success. And if
29:28there's anything resonate to you, please do subscribe and like, because we do need to start asking better

30:03you can go ahead and check out for yourselves. I'm going to have the link to the YouTube channel in
30:08the
30:08description box, wherever you may be watching and any other information that I can get out to you so that
30:13you can, you can ask those vital questions. Know that reaching a plateau doesn't mean that you've
30:19reached a plateau. Sometimes you're there by yourself and you kind of don't want to be there.
30:25If that's you go ahead and reach out. But most of all, just be good and take a moment to
30:31react,
30:32you know, reevaluate your position and where you're going to be, because like you said,
30:37you know, your position creates you and you create your position. I want to thank you guys so much for
30:43tuning in. Don't forget to dare to be different. And my gosh, this has been another great episode.
