00:07A Shoguanas family is now homeless following a late night fire which gutted their two dwellings
00:14located at Chrissy Terrace, Lendor Village, Shoguanas.
00:18My daughter called out to me, daddy, daddy, smoke coming from the bedroom.
00:22So I run.
00:24So I could bottle and tell she now, I say what me, push out your mother to the body.
00:30Push you up by the road.
00:31Let me see.
00:32And I take up the gas tank and I put it away in the back.
00:36I take up the fire extinguisher and as I pull the coating, the coating I just stick up in my
00:41hand.
00:42So I get burned.
00:44Right.
00:45And I use the extinguisher but couldn't do not because the fire was on me already and then I run
00:50out.
00:50The fire is said to have spread within a matter of minutes.
00:53The family says the fire service was unable to make much impact by the time they arrived.
01:00So when they came, yeah, they started to put out the fire but almost everything was burnt already.
01:07How long from the time the fire started, it took them once they actually made the call for them to
01:14actually reach?
01:15To reach here in no time, you know, because one of the officers told me that they were seeing the
01:20smoke from there.
01:21Okay.
01:21Yeah.
01:22What, about 10 minutes?
01:25Maybe about 25 to maybe like half an hour, yeah.
01:29Okay.
01:30It wasn't too bad, yeah.
01:30We went to fire service to see if we could get our documents to get back our IDs, birth paper,
01:39driver's permit, etc.
01:40But we have to, they filled out the forms.
01:44We have to wait a couple of weeks because they told us that there are a lot of people in
01:48front of us.
01:49A bedridden elderly woman is among the affected.
01:52The family is asking for any and all assistance.
01:56We have to let the MP know, counsellor know, whoever could help.
02:02We're just waiting.
02:03My dad, both his phones got burnt up.
02:06All our clothes, everything.
02:08My mom, her electric bed, all myself, my dad, my mom, all of us, meds, everything is burnt.
02:17We need the help, whichever way we can.
02:21My mom, at the moment, needs a wheelchair because she needed that, because she has clinics coming up.
02:28So we need to take her, yeah.
02:30So if anyone can assist us in helping her get that.
02:33The Dino Rines can be reached at 729-3330.
