00:00The fire broke out shortly after 12 noon in Block F. Sam one fire station officer
00:05Cummings and his crew quickly got to work to extinguish the fire but there
00:09were some difficulties along the way. On arrival we would have encountered one of
00:14the chief buildings in the Malik secondary school on fire. Crew quickly
00:19got to work and started extinguishing the fire. Some difficulties encountered
00:25would have been the location of the building but we overcame that and
00:30quickly brought the fire under control. But with all the commotion Mr. Cummings
00:35commended the students and staff for evacuating the scene in a proper manner.
00:39What we could say is that the staff had successfully evacuated all the students
00:46from the school compound and we had up till present confirmed that we have no
00:53persons reported in this case anybody missing or unaccounted for. Fire officer
00:58Samson confirmed that the fire at Malik secondary school caused significant
01:02damage to several key areas of the building. He reported that the blaze
01:07primarily affected the silver room, library and conference room where
01:11equipment and materials were destroyed. Firefighters were able to contain the
01:15flames before they spread to other parts of the school but the extent of the
01:19damage to these crucial spaces is still being assessed. From all appearances it
01:24housed the silver room. This is just preliminary, still collating evidence.
01:30Silver room, a library with books stored and a conference room from what we have
01:36been told initially. According to fire officials investigations are still
01:40ongoing to determine what caused the mishap. Authorities have assured the
01:45public that they are doing a thorough investigation. Azaria Ifill, TV6 News.
