00:11Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're looking at some of our favorite easter eggs, secrets,
00:17and other hidden details found in the first five chapters of DELTARUNE.
00:28But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and
00:33ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:38Befriending Onion
00:48In Chapter 1, by the lake in Chris and Susie's hometown in the light world, standing on
00:53the brown patch for a certain amount of time causes a giant octopus named Onion to emerge
00:58from the water.
00:59If you choose to be friends with the lonely creature, they will reappear in Chapter 2, though
01:03nothing will happen if you missed the initial encounter.
01:06Upon meeting a second time, Onion will tell Chris that they can hear music coming from
01:11beneath the lake at night, something they will investigate and report back on.
01:15However, Onion is absent from Chapters 3 and 4.
01:19In the latter, if you try to visit during the day, Susie will remark that they must be busy,
01:23and later you'll find a striped bird NPC who tells you not to wait.
01:28At night, Susie can also hear music coming from the other side of the lake.
01:40Somewhat tragically, in Chapter 5, you can find this same bird NPC selling fried octopus balls,
01:47which Susie remarks, tastes like raw onion.
02:08Another recurring element you can miss out on in Chapter 1 comes when Susie destroys the
02:13top chef's cake.
02:14This adds the broken cake to your key items.
02:17Later, at a bake sale, a smith named Malleus will humorously repair it, turning it into the
02:23top cake, which heals the whole party for 160 HP.
02:27But if you hold onto it and backtrack to the top chef, he'll be so overjoyed that he'll
02:32give you the spin cake.
02:33While this consumable starts as a low HP heal, 80 instead of 160 in Chapter 1, the chef will
02:40appear in your castle town, where you can get another one for free after each time you use
02:45it.
02:45The amount it heals also increases with each chapter.
02:48Although the chef doesn't appear in Chapter 3, by the fifth, the spin cake heals the whole
02:53party for 180 HP.
03:02The tiny car.
03:13By playing the pacifist during battle, you can spare any enemy you come across.
03:18Spare a certain amount of each type, and they'll appear next time you visit your castle town.
03:23But there are some recruitable characters that are easy to miss, because you never actually
03:27fight them.
03:28One most probably missed comes in Chapter 2, while navigating Cyber City, players will
03:33eventually be put into a car with Queen, the chapter's villain.
03:36During this section, red cars with legs, known as Electro Dashers, will come barreling towards
03:42you from the other direction.
03:43You have to hit fewer than three of them.
03:45But you must also have already recruited Task Manager or not recruited Task, Pop-Up, or
03:52Mouse yet.
03:53If done properly, a tiny Electro Dasher will join the rest of the NPCs that populate your
03:58little village.
04:05The original Starwalker.
04:17Another easily missed recruitable NPC comes in Chapter 1, but plays a bigger role than the
04:22Electro Dasher.
04:23In Chapter 1, you can find a path with a Starwalker bird, which shoots at the party until you ring
04:29a bell to scare it off.
04:30If you then backtrack to the beginning of the path, you'll find the original Starwalker,
04:35who says the birds are pissing him off.
04:37He'll appear again in the card castle towards the end of the chapter, but he'll also start
04:41showing up during certain key moments in later chapters.
04:45If you didn't backtrack to meet him, he will never, ever appear.
04:49Not suitable for television.
04:59At the beginning of Chapter 3, we're introduced to Mr. Tenna, who puts the party through various
05:04game show antics and minigames.
05:06He starts by having you enter a name into your podium with a limit of three characters.
05:10Different combinations get different reactions.
05:12K-R-I or K-R-S for Chris gets a normal reaction, while trying to put S-U-S
05:18for Susie, or R-A-L
05:20for Rousey causes him to remark about how things will get confusing.
05:23You can also input minor dirty words like poo, pee, or tit, which will get you scolded
05:30by Tenna.
05:30If you try to go harder by entering a variation of the F word, it actually won't let you go
05:35past F-U, unless you edit the game's files.
05:39Still, Toby Fox planned for this, coding a specific scene that flashes to a technical
05:44difficulty screen before returning with your name changed to FUN.
05:57At the heart of Deltarune lies a prophecy about a group of adventurers tied to the fate of both
06:02the light and dark worlds.
06:04In chapter 4, we see a lot of key elements of this prophecy depicted across stained glass
06:09windows.
06:10And while this is mostly treated as seriously as it should be, one image depicts Jockington,
06:15a popular snake classmate of Chris and Susie's, growing a beard.
06:19Many probably laughed it off as a silly gag, but in chapter 5, released a year later, you
06:24can find Jockington during the opening festival, where he sprouts a beard before our eyes.
06:29Yes, it is a goofy scene, but it also serves as a sign that the rest of the prophecy will
06:34soon come to pass.
06:45The actual easter eggs
06:47Within each chapter, you can find areas hidden between other sections in the dark world.
06:52Here, Chris will find a lone tree, and behind each one is a mysterious man, who we have yet
06:58to get a glimpse of.
06:59If you answer his questions properly, he'll give Chris an egg.
07:03In chapters 1 and 2, these hidden areas only have a small chance of appearing, requiring
07:08you to backtrack multiple times until they do.
07:11In chapters 3 and 4, they require multiple steps to reach them, and so can naturally be missed
07:17if you don't know what you're doing.
07:18Interestingly, their purpose is a mystery.
07:20The eggs found in chapters 1 and 2 can be placed in the light world, in Asgore's fridge,
07:26and the egg basket in Sans' store, respectively.
07:29Those found in chapters 3 and 4 appear in the school during the latter, and the egg found
07:34in chapter 5 is the final one, and their true purpose will likely be explored in a future
07:38chapter.
07:57In chapter 1, after Chris and Rousey are imprisoned in Card Castle, you can find a patch of moss
08:03in the cell.
08:04Interacting with it comes with the line, even the moss drinks water.
08:08This is a reference to Illusion of Gaia on the Super Nintendo.
08:11While locked in a cell, the protagonist is told the very same line by a guard, but this
08:16was a mistranslation from the Japanese version.
08:19The line is meant to be, suck moss if you want water.
08:22Furthermore, Chris can eat the moss, which refills their health and starts a running joke across
08:27all chapters.
08:28Rousey will place decorative moss inside Chris's room found in your castle town in chapter 2,
08:33and you can eat more moss in Cyber City.
08:36You'll find more inside one of Mr. Tenna's video games in chapter 3, and sacred moss to
08:41eat in chapter 4, at the end of a long hallway inside the second sanctuary.
08:45Doing all of this causes a moss trophy to appear in Chris's castle town room in chapter
08:505.
08:50And finally, you'll find more moss to eat inside a different jail cell in Flower Castle.
09:02Alphys's Review A ton of Undertale characters reappear
09:06in Deltarune, often with different roles but similar personalities.
09:10It can be fun to spot the slight differences in them, such as one obscure fact about Alphys,
09:16Chris's teacher.
09:16Much like her counterpart in Undertale, she is a massive anime fan.
09:21At the library, you can read a review of a movie called Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2, left by
09:27the anonymous yellow lizard, clearly Alphys.
09:30The review gushes about how good it is, calling it much better than the first.
09:34Funnily enough, in Undertale, one of the many status updates you receive from Alphys is of
09:39a review of the same movie.
09:41But, much more negative, even claiming that if anyone finds it better than the first, it
09:46must be a joke.
09:47The skeleton and the robot While there are a lot of Undertale characters
09:52in Deltarune, there are also a few who have yet to appear, notably Papyrus and Mettaton.
09:58But that doesn't mean there aren't hints towards them.
10:00Papyrus's brother, Sans, lives in Chris's hometown, and mentions having a lonely younger
10:05sibling who just moved there in Chapter 1.
10:08Knocking on their door, you can hear the distant Trussell of Bones, a nod towards Papyrus's
10:13theme song, Bone Trussell.
10:21There are more references to him in later chapters, with Sans mentioning we probably won't meet
10:25him until Chris's brother, Asriel, returns from college.
10:29As far as Mettaton is concerned, the glamorous robot can at least be spoken to, if not seen.
10:34You can find his Undertale house in the light world, and speak to him through the door.
10:39Muting Rousey
10:51Rousey is usually pretty calm and carefree, despite the dire circumstances of the main plot
10:57in Deltarune.
10:58But that starts to slip when we're introduced to Flowery in Chapter 5.
11:02The villain humorously comes with a lot of voice clips, although players are told they
11:07can turn those off in the config menu.
11:10Sorry to keep you waiting.
11:13You're on like a turnin'.
11:18My king.
11:21Later, when the party comes across a puzzle they can't solve, Flowery appears again, and Rousey,
11:27distinctly disliking the character, reminds Chris they can turn his voice lines off.
11:32Flowery then mentions to Chris not to, quote, turn Rousey's off in the thingy, and sure
11:37enough, after this dialogue you can go into the config menu, where there will be an on-off
11:42option for Rousey.
11:43Switching it off makes Rousey incapable of speaking, which causes the next couple of scenes
11:48to play out differently.
11:57Sorry about that, little guy.
11:59The Annoying Dog.
12:12Similar to Undertale, players may periodically come across a small white dog that solely
12:18exists to troll you.
12:19It's long been known that this is a stand-in for creator Toby Fox.
12:23He can appear in your stats menu, with the stat labeled as Dog.
12:27While trying to find the hidden egg in Chapter 2, the dog will run you over as a scripted
12:31death.
12:32He appears if you manage to beat an optional minigame in Chapter 3, destroying the statue
12:37you've been trying to protect.
12:38In Chapter 4, he races you up a climbable wall, only to be completely disinterested in
12:44the prize at the top.
12:47And in Chapter 5, he appears in the puzzle room before you can collect the final egg.
12:52These are just some of the best appearances, but that's hardly all of them.
13:04The Gotcha Machine.
13:06Instead of letting you spend money in Chapter 3, players use points gained through Tenna's
13:10various minigames.
13:11One of the places you can spend these points is a room with a giant gacha ball machine.
13:16There are some pretty good consumables to earn, as well as joke items like our old pal
13:20lancer and the annoying dog, which gets you one dog dollar, an item whose value decreases
13:26with each chapter.
13:27Thanks, Toby.
13:28But the most interesting thing to do with this machine comes when you enter 1225 points.
13:34This takes Chris to a secret room, with a smaller machine.
13:38Interacting with it gets you a small, dark triangle that Chris drops and is unable to find
13:42again, before they're transported back to the normal room, with the regular gacha machine
13:46now gone.
13:47The amount of points and item are references to December, or deaths, older sister to Noelle,
13:53Chris's childhood friend.
13:55Noelle and her family are holiday-themed reindeer, with 1225 being Christmas Day, and with the
14:00small triangle being a guitar pick, which she played.
14:04Her death or disappearance has been alluded to throughout all chapters, with the exact circumstances
14:09still a mystery.
14:11The Hidden Big Shot
14:23Chapter 2's secret boss, Spamton, is quite the interesting character, but he doesn't
14:28just appear in Chapter 2.
14:30He makes a small cameo in Chapter 3, though only inside a hidden area, and only if you have
14:35a proper item equipped.
14:37During the section where the party is being hunted by Tenna, you come across a maze of
14:41TV screens, kept in groups that require passing quick quizzes to progress.
14:45Interacting with the single green screen leads to Tenna's secret wardrobe, which holds a
14:51pippus, an earlier enemy, that he treats like his child.
14:54Only if you have the deal maker, or the puppet scarf equipped, two items linked to Spamton,
14:59will the former boss make a cameo in a rather comical scene.
15:14The Creator's Hands
15:21Toby Fox is a pianist, but has spoken openly about chronic pain in his hands, and how it
15:27has affected both his ability to play piano, as well as program his games.
15:31Interestingly, Chris, the protagonist of Deltarune, is also a pianist, but is very clearly frustrated
15:37with the player being in control of their body, and how it affects their ability to play.
15:42In Chapter 4, during a lengthy segment in Noelle's house, Chris removes the player, or the soul,
15:48from their body.
15:49During this section, you can travel through the vents and witness a few important story scenes.
15:53You can also head into the kitchen, where you'll hear them playing music across different chapters.
16:08While Fox has enlisted several composers to help, we can presume this is him playing.
16:13Since these versions don't appear on the soundtracks, it's also a nice touch to Chris's characterization.
16:19These songs are only for them.
16:31The Physics of Quicksand
16:42In Tenna's first Zelda-like minigame in Chapter 3, Susie will eventually get the power croissant item.
16:49This is a reference to Undertale, an item sold at Muffet's Bakery.
16:53And that is a reference to the power bracelet from the Zelda series,
16:57which does indeed look like a croissant and lets Link pick up heavier objects.
17:02But it goes much deeper in Deltarune.
17:04Susie will begin picking up nearby pots and tossing them in excitement,
17:08before picking up Rousey and throwing him into the nearby water.
17:11However, if you drank from the Healing Fountain a total of eight times,
17:14the water will have been drained from the Oasis, and Susie will instead throw Rousey into Quicksand.
17:20Tenna will say something about the class paying attention to the Physics of Quicksand,
17:24while Rousey asks,
17:26Won't someone please help me?
17:27This is in reference to an old tweet from Toby Fox in 2014, pre-Undertale,
17:32where a college professor placed Sakuya from Scarlet Devil Mansion in Quicksand during a lecture,
17:37accompanied by the same question asked by Rousey.
17:40The Colorful Flowers
17:51This may be something that a lot of Undertale players picked up on, but it's really cool nonetheless.
17:57During Chapter 5 of Deltarune, players meet Darkner versions of flowers kept in Asgore's shop,
18:03now humanoid and with different personalities.
18:05The color of each flower, and the items each Darkner version uses,
18:10are references to the children that died before Undertale takes place.
18:14They were each killed and had their souls taken by that game's version of Asgore,
18:18in an attempt to free his people.
18:20Since you can also find the items linked to them at various points,
18:23you can assume how far they made it before being killed.
18:26For example, Aqua from Deltarune wears a ribbon and fights with a knife,
18:31two items found very early on in Undertale, signifying that she died early on.
18:36Yellow, on the other hand, wears a cowboy hat and uses a gun,
18:40two items found late in Undertale, signalling he made it pretty far.
18:54Organ songs
19:02At a certain point in Chapter 4, the party will need to obtain sheet music for Chris to play on
19:07an organ,
19:08so that they can make it further into the sanctuary.
19:10However, because you can change the organ's octave, you can also play multiple songs from Undertale and Deltarune.
19:17Each one will prompt a reaction from Susie and Rousey.
19:20Noelle's theme, Lost Girl, which Susie enjoys and wonders if she could learn it on guitar,
19:25is a nod to their budding romance.
19:34Toriel's boss theme from Undertale is called Emotional by Rousey,
19:38while Susie says Chris should play it for their mom, since she hasn't heard them play in a while.
19:48You can even play Flowery's theme from Chapter 5, which Susie thinks sounds annoying, much like the character.
19:55However, the funniest option is Megalovania, Sans' boss theme from Undertale, which became a meme.
20:00After the opening four notes, the annoying white dog crashes into Chris, ending the performance.
20:10Spamton's backstory
20:24Piecing together Spamton's backstory is one of the more enjoyable, optional things to do in Deltarune.
20:30A lot of it can only be learned after you've already defeated him in the basement of Queen's Castle during
20:36Chapter 2.
20:37After doing so, players must backtrack all the way back to his shop,
20:40where they'll now find all the various Addisons that used to be his friends,
20:44which each give a piece of tantalizing information about his rise in fame and his quick fall.
20:49His backstory is explored even further in Chapter 3, but only in another hidden section in which Tenna details their
20:56partnership.
20:56Despite his comical dialogue, Spamton is a somewhat tragic figure,
21:01the full nature of which is lost on players that don't dig into Deltarune's nooks and crannies.

21:37A Hint of Gaster
21:40W.D. Gaster is the most enigmatic character in the Undertale lore.
21:44Known as the Royal Scientist before Alphys, he never appears.
21:48However, references to him, even followers of his, do appear,
21:52but only very rarely and depending on a random number known as the fun value, which varies between different save
21:58files.
21:59In Deltarune, players have picked up on small nods to Gaster, hinting at his nefarious nature and possible inclusion in
22:06later chapters.
22:07Mostly, a sound effect linked to him in Undertale is heard whenever Chris tries to use their cell phone while
22:12in the Dark World.
22:23Deltarune
22:24Many players believe him to be responsible for Spamton's rise and downfall in Chapter 2,
22:29and one of Gaster's followers in Undertale is the striped bird NPC we mentioned at the start of the video,
22:35who might have killed the friendly onion for investigating the lake mysteries too closely.
22:40But those are just some of our favorite hidden details and easter eggs we've spotted.
22:44There are, obviously, a ton more.
22:46Let us know what some of your favorites are in the comments, and we'll see you next time.
