00:06Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're looking at some of the hardest unlockable characters
00:10across video game history.
00:19Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:25the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:28Liu Kang – Mortal Kombat Deception
00:36Liu Kang isn't typically an unlockable character in the Mortal Kombat series, but Deception
00:41is another story.
00:42Due to his appearance as a reanimated corpse in this entry, the devs kept his inclusion
00:46secret and made his unlock method incredibly obscure.
00:49You must first complete the Conquest story mode, which is simple enough.
00:52But then, you must head to Idinia and go to Jade's tent on Square G8, specifically at
00:58midnight between Thursday and Friday.
01:00A gold chest will appear holding a crypt key that unlocks the famed fighter.
01:03Of course, only if you looked up a guide would you know this exact method.
01:07Liu Kang wins Flawless Victory
01:11TT – Diddy Kong Racing
01:24Much like other kart racers, Diddy Kong Racing includes time trials for players to test themselves
01:29against the clear times of the actual devs.
01:31Some of these courses can be pretty tough, requiring pristine knowledge and reaction time
01:36to beat each of the staff ghosts.
01:37Only if you do this for every single course will you unlock TT, the talking stopwatch who
01:42normally serves as a non-playable ally to Diddy Kong.
01:45But seriously, completing these requires a level of perfection that most racers won't be able
01:49to hit without a whole lot of trial and error.
02:00Final Fantasy 6
02:01Yeah, be prepared to see Square Enix show up on this list a lot.
02:06As a mime, Gogo can mimic the moves of other party members, a very useful skill to have.
02:11But he's one of those characters that can be easy to miss, simply because it requires
02:14doing something most players won't think to do.
02:16Once players reach Triangle Island late in the game, you'll be able to fight a zone eater.
02:21Naturally, you'll want to kill this thing.
02:23But if you bide your time, surviving until it uses the inhale ability on your whole team,
02:27you can then traverse its insides, where you'll find Gogo waiting to join the party.
02:40Aunt May
02:41LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
02:46Most LEGO games come with huge rosters.
02:48And more often than not, the hardest character to unlock is a joke one.
02:52In the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, that role belongs to Aunt May.
02:55To play as her, and gain the ability of whacking bad guys with her handbag, you must first
03:00unlock Deadpool, which is where the brunt of the work comes in.
03:03The Merc with the Mouth is unlocked after earning 11 red bricks.
03:06Not a big number, but most of these are well hidden within specific levels and cost a ton
03:10of studs each.
03:12You'll spend millions to unlock Deadpool, and still have to complete his 3 side quests
03:16before you can play as May.
03:25Warthog Twisted Metal
03:32Similar to Liu Kang, the Warthog from Twisted Metal isn't normally unlockable, or at least
03:37is easy to get.
03:38But in the 2012 game, Sony chose to make the recurring vehicle fairly difficult to play as.
03:43To unlock it, you have to beat story mode on Twisted difficulty, naturally the hardest
03:47the game offers, while getting gold in every single mission.
03:50That level of difficulty is already pretty challenging, and only having to do that would
03:54be bad enough.
03:55But earning gold, essentially completing everything perfectly, makes it so much worse.
04:10P.J.
04:11F-Zero GX
04:20Despite it being over 20 years old and part of a series that has been dead for quite a
04:24long while, F-Zero GX has a legacy for being one of the hardest games Nintendo has ever put
04:29out.
04:29That's true on normal mode, so you can only imagine what it's like on the highest difficulty
04:33setting, very hard.
04:34In order to unlock P.J. and his groovy taxi, you'll need to beat Chapter 9 on Very Hard
04:39Difficulty, which is the final chapter in the story mode.
04:42Like we said, most people struggle with this game in normal mode, so it's no surprise that
04:46many players never got to race as P.J.
04:48Captain Blue
04:49Beautiful Joe
05:00Capcom knows a thing or two about making a hard game, and locking characters behind ridiculously
05:04hard methods.
05:05While this action game focuses on the titular Joe, you unlock new characters for beating
05:09the game on different difficulty levels.
05:11Unfortunately, you have to beat each one to unlock the next.
05:14For beating the game on Adults mode, you unlock Sylvia and V-Rated mode.
05:18For beating that, you get Alistair and Ultra V-Rated.
05:21And only once you beat this mode, you'll get Captain Blue.
05:24But be warned, Ultra is in the title for a reason, as this mode will truly test both your
05:29skills and your patience.
05:31I'll say you will see this move and see the king.
05:36Sherry Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together
05:38No use to feign ignorance, father.
05:41I know you know.
05:44Joining the ranks of RPG characters with obscure unlock methods, Sherry is easily missable in
05:49Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together.
05:50You have to fight her in the game's fourth chapter, and it's likely you'll think of
05:54her as just another boss fight on a first playthrough.
05:56Of course, you aren't allowed to defeat her.
05:59Only get her to around 10% of her total health before allowing her to teleport away.
06:03There are still a few unclear boxes to check off, though.
06:06Before progressing too far in the story, you must go to Balmamusa, only while it's raining,
06:10with Sherry's sister, Olivia, in your party while she's at medium to high loyalty.
06:15Only under these very specific circumstances will you trigger a cutscene with Sherry, allowing
06:20her to join the party.
06:21Sherry?
06:25It is you!
06:26What's happened?
06:28Are you alright?
06:29Thanos Infinite Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 The Black Order
06:34I'll do it myself!
06:35While Thanos appears in the base game of Ultimate Alliance 3, a much more powerful version of
06:40him with the Infinity Gauntlet was added through the Shadow of Doom DLC.
06:44Since you paid for it, you might as well try to get him.
06:46But clearly that's no simple task.
06:48You first have to beat the DLC on superior difficulty, which may sound like the hardest
06:52it offers, but it isn't.
06:54Doing this only unlocks Ultimate difficulty, which is a gigantic pain to get through.
06:58Enemies are obviously on a whole other level, swarming your team with high damage numbers.
07:02It's satisfying to play as Infinite Thanos with the power befitting the Mad Titan, but
07:07your worthiness will be tested.
07:09Elwyn Radiata Stories
07:16Radiata Stories is notorious for having some of the hardest RPG characters to unlock, even
07:20among Square Enix's vast library.
07:22Of them all, Elwyn gives players the biggest hassle.
07:25She's only recruitable while going down the human path, and only after you've recruited
07:29all other members of the Theater Vancoor Guild, several of which come with their own tedious
07:34unlock methods.
07:35You can find her at one of two different locations during specific times of day, and challenge
07:39her to a fight.
07:40The battle is no kick walk either, as Elwyn is at level 60.
07:43But players will have to tough it out in order to add her to the team.
07:46Wolverine
07:47Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
07:57Most secret characters in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series don't require much effort
08:00to unlock.
08:01Heck, you can easily get away with just typing in the codes that unlock everything in the
08:05game.
08:05But if you want to do things legitimately for whatever reason, Pro Skater 3 might give you
08:09the most trouble.
08:10Unlike the other characters, Wolverine comes with a lengthy, time-consuming requirement to
08:14unlock him.
08:15You'll just have to complete the entire game with two separate characters.
08:17That's right.
08:18Every stunt, every trick, every skate letter, every combo will have to be done twice between
08:24two different skaters.
08:25Have fun!
08:34Ho-Oh, Pokemon Coliseum
08:36In the mainline games, certain Pokemon can obviously take more effort to unlock than others.
08:40But there is no pocket monster that matches the requirements of Ho-Oh in this GameCube spin-off.
08:44The story revolves around you purifying shadow Pokemon, which have become corrupted by the
08:48villainous team Snaggum.
08:50To even get a shot at adding this legendary bird to your team, you must first beat the
08:53game and purify all 48 shadow Pokemon.
08:56Then you must head to mount battle with a team of your 6 best and make it through 100 fights
09:01without swapping any of them out.
09:03But only after doing all of this will you unlock Ho-Oh.
09:06Devil
09:06Tekken 2
09:14In most fighting games, unlocking the boss as a playable character only requires you to
09:18beat the game with every character.
09:20Totally doable in just a few hours.
09:22Tekken 2 is a special case, however, as it kind of pulls the wool over your eyes from the
09:26get-go.
09:26See, the 10 characters you see on the Fighter Select screen aren't the only characters you
09:31need to beat the game with.
09:32You're going to need to beat the game with every single unlockable character as well.
09:36In other words, you're going to need to understand every character's toolkit while adjusting to
09:40the game's archaic controls.
09:47Squall
09:47Chocobo Racing
09:54Overall, Chocobo Racing is one of the easiest racing games you could play.
09:58Although there is a tiny asterisk over that statement.
10:01See, if you just sprint through the story and play for fun, yeah, easy game.
10:05But if you want to complete the game and unlock every character, you're going to need to race
10:09Squall on his own course, which is unlocked after beating Story Mode twice.
10:13Now, what makes this frustrating is that Squall is the most broken character in the entire
10:17game.
10:18The hero of Final Fantasy VIII is the only character with a power-up equivalent to Mario Kart's
10:23Blue Shell.
10:23The power-up hits everyone and is completely unavoidable.
10:26Yeah, Squall is a filthy cheat.
10:29Morrigan and Nakaruru
10:30Capcom vs. SNK Millennium Fight 2000 Pro
10:44There are a ton of unlockable characters in fighting games that require you to beat the
10:47game with every character.
10:48And we'd be remiss not to include Capcom vs. SNK Millennium Fight 2000 Pro because of the
10:54sheer size of the roster.
10:55Would you believe that Morrigan and Nakaruru are hiding among this huge cast?
10:59In order to access these legendary fighters, you will need to beat the entire game with
11:03every Capcom character to unlock Morrigan, and every SNK character to unlock Nakaruru.
11:08Think you have the time to tackle the latter with more than 30 characters?
11:20D.Va – Baldur's Gate III
11:30Baldur's Gate III hides a wealth of powerful summons to aid you in battle, but there is
11:34one summon very few players managed to find during their initial playthrough.
11:37Remember how annoying Divas were to fight?
11:39Well, you can turn that around by summoning a D.Va of your own.
11:42In Act III, there is a fake wall in the Vault of Sorceress Sundries that can only be reached
11:46by crossing an invisible bridge.
11:48Baldur's Gate III does not hint at this possibility in any way, shape, or form, meaning the only
11:53way you would ever acquire the summon is if you were testing every corner of every area
11:57you entered.
11:58Best to look up a guide for this one.
12:11Stormtalon – Ghost Master
12:19In case you've never heard of it, Ghost Master was a hidden gem of a PC game where you utilized
12:24a small troop of ghosts and ghouls to scare the denizens of Gravenville.
12:27You can even find special spooks hidden behind puzzles or, in Stormtalon's case, special
12:32events and powers happening at very specific points.
12:35To unlock Stormtalon, you'll have to play a scenario that takes place at Spooky Hollow.
12:39Then, summon a storm before you go using your wind and water powers to create the distant
12:43thunder condition.
12:44As soon as you do, Stormtalon will appear to help you haunt residents.
12:49Stormtalon – Prince Among Elementals answers your call of thunder and lightning.
12:56Junkyard Dog – Fallout 4
13:04We all know the usual suspects when it comes to Fallout 4's roster of companions.
13:09Piper, Dogmeet, Nick Valentine.
13:11But did you know there is one companion very few know about?
13:14It's a second dog too!
13:15See, every time you enter and re-enter the commonwealth, there is one specific merchant
13:19who will spawn in a random spot somewhere in the world.
13:22So it's already hard enough to figure out where this guy is.
13:25Not only do you have to find this merchant, you will also need a high enough charisma stat
13:29to pass the skill check and convince him to let you purchase his dog from him.
13:32If you can, try to just max out your charisma before attempting to track him down and get
13:37the dog.
13:37It will be worth the time and effort.
13:47Xavir – Fire Emblem Tharsia-776
13:58One of the hardest games in the Fire Emblem series also has one of its toughest characters
14:02to unlock.
14:02Players are able to recruit General Xavir to their team in Chapter 18, but he can only be
14:06recruited by a specific party member, Leaf.
14:09The trickier part is that eight of Xavir's lieutenants have had their loved ones kidnapped
14:13by the game's villain.
14:14You must free the regular folk first and take them into battle so that they can each speak
14:18with the person they're related to, which stops the lieutenants from attacking you.
14:22These civilians can easily be killed during the battle.
14:24And once a lieutenant joins your side, it's also possible they'll kill one of the others.
14:28If any one of these 16 people die in the fight, the entire process is ruined and Xavir
14:33is lost forever.
14:48Much like Baldur's Gate 3 and the D.Va Summon, Final Fantasy 7 does not give any sign that Vincent
14:53is anywhere in the game.
14:54This was one of those unlockables you either had to figure out on your own back in the day,
14:58or take the word of mouth with a grain of salt.
15:00In order to recruit Vincent for yourself, you'll need to track down the code to unlock Shinra
15:04Manor's safe and defeat the secret boss, Lost Number.
15:07Afterwards, you'll be able to talk to Vincent, but here's where it gets tricky.
15:11You will need to make very specific dialogue choices, or else Vincent will end the conversation.
15:15And no, you will not be able to try again unless you turn the game off without saving.
15:42When Crash Bandicoot's first racer was remastered for the modern era, it brought together characters
15:46from across the entire franchise, including some no one expected to see.
15:49Within the main platformers, the Iron Checkpoint crate is exactly what it sounds like, a checkpoint.
15:54But in a post-launch update for Nitro Fueled, the developer included it as a silly unlockable
15:58character.
15:59In order to earn it, you'll have to find all 39 hidden Beanox crates, one for each level
16:04save for the PS4 exclusive Retro Stadium.
16:06That's already a tall order, but some of these crates are hard to find, and even harder to
16:10break while barreling through courses at high speeds.
16:27There are some characters whose method of unlocking is not something the average player would ever
16:31think to do.
16:32In Fire Emblem, Path of Radiance, Stefan is one of the strongest fighters you can add
16:36to your party.
16:37Unfortunately, it's highly likely that you'll miss the chance to unlock him.
16:40He can only join in Chapter 15, and you have to unlock him on the battlefield.
16:44But that's not the tough part.
16:45The player must have either Lethe or Mordecai step on a specific square away from the fight
16:50in order to speak with him.
16:51If it's any other character, they'll get his sword, but Stefan will forever be lost.
17:00The Forgotten.
17:01The Binding of Isaac, Rebirth.
17:09Although the story follows the unfortunate Isaac, there are still plenty of other characters
17:13to find.
17:14Added through an expansion, The Forgotten is a skeleton that fights with a bone club
17:17and has a laundry list of tasks in order to unlock.
17:20After defeating the first boss in under a minute, you'll get a broken shovel.
17:23You'll then need to survive as Mom stomps at you from above, though using your shabby
17:27prize will at least stop her from attacking in the current room.
17:30Eventually making it through a boss rush, you'll repair the shovel.
17:33Then just keep surviving waves of enemies until you reach the dark room where you can dig
17:37up The Forgotten's remains.
17:38Hope it was worth it.
17:58As you'll see, some of the hardest characters to unlock can be found in RPGs.
18:02Chronocross features a surprising 45 possible party members and Skelly is, without a doubt,
18:07the hardest to unlock.
18:08You'll come across his Lone Skull in Fossil Valley where he'll ask you to track down his
18:12remaining parts.
18:13You'll then have to track down those parts across six different locations of its fairly
18:17large world.
18:18While it's possible to find some before coming across Skelly, others are pretty challenging
18:22to find and hidden in obscure areas.
18:24But after bringing them all together and watching him reunite with his grandma back in Termina,
18:28Skelly will head out on your adventure.
18:39Reiji Kido
18:40Revelations Persona
18:48These days, players can simply look up guides on how to unlock characters, but in 1996 you
18:53had to follow a set of specific, obscure decisions in order to earn Reiji in the first persona.
18:58You'd have to know to start the process right at the beginning, heading from the infirmary
19:01to the teacher's lounge.
19:03Talking to a certain teacher would lead you to a classroom on the second floor where you'd
19:06meet Reiji.
19:07From there, it took following a set path, including finding and talking to his mother only once,
19:11and declining specific characters when they wanted to join.
19:14If you did any number of things incorrectly, one of the best possible party members would
19:19be lost for good.
19:24William Borden
19:26Urban Reign
19:26Today, I would like to announce a new crime prevention initiative that will stop this epidemic
19:33which plagues our city.
19:34Going through the process of unlocking a character isn't always worth it.
19:38This beat-em-up story mode follows Brad Hawk, a hired muscle caught in the middle of a gang
19:42war.
19:42The villain is corrupt politician William Borden, who is behind the city's state and craves
19:47even more power.
19:48Players can unlock him, though it takes a lot of dedication.
19:51You have to get an S-rank on every stage, which can be ridiculously tough.
19:55There's a number of characters and difficulty levels to consider to find the right balance
19:58so you can earn your trophy.
20:00But Borden sucks anyway, from his stats to his attacks, so you may as well not even bother.
20:13Borden wins!
20:15Zero, Bayonetta
20:23In the original Bayonetta, you could unlock an additional hard mode in the form of a character
20:27named Zero.
20:27Essentially controlling the same as the main character, Zero can only handle a couple of
20:32hits before he goes down.
20:33As you might expect, unlocking him is no small feat either.
20:36After finishing every Alfheim mission, you can try your hand at a special survival chapter
20:40consisting of 51 fights.
20:42The first 10 are on normal mode, the next 20 on hard, and the next 20 on non-stop climax.
20:48It culminates in a clash with Bayonetta herself, who has 5 health bars and naturally puts up a mighty fight.
21:02The Crystal Men
21:03FTL, faster than light
21:13With a procedurally generated solar system's worth of encounters, FTL provides a ton of possible allies.
21:18But the Crystal Men are both the hardest to recruit and the ones most worth doing so.
21:22First, you'll need to be lucky enough to encounter a randomized event where a distress call leads you to an
21:27asteroid field.
21:28There, you'll find a damage stasis pod you must get repaired at a specific facility, which holds your first Crystal
21:33crew member.
21:34Then you must wait for another random event to happen, which gets you a device that teleports you to a
21:38hidden sector.
21:39Only then will you be able to recruit more Crystal Men, who have great weapons and one of the best
21:43ships in the game.
21:53Cloud Strife
21:54Final Fantasy Tactics
22:02Although he's arguably the most famous Final Fantasy protagonist, Cloud takes a ton of work to unlock in this spin
22:07-off.
22:08Like several others, it requires following a very specific path within the story.
22:12You must have kept Lustario in your party and completed Chapter 4, after which you must know to return to
22:17his hometown.
22:18There, you can aid his father in completing his portal device through a lengthy side quest that includes recruiting other
22:23party members in a secret boss fight.
22:25You'll also have to have bought a flower from a girl in Salgiros.
22:29Afterwards, Cloud will be summoned to this world, and he'll join your party the next time you return.
22:33How anyone could have known to do all this is beyond us.
22:52Not only does unlocking Norden take some major outside-the-box thinking, but it takes completing an infamously tough dungeon.
22:58First, you have to buy what seems like an ordinary cube from the Curiosity Shop.
23:02Turns out this is a figurine of a Modrin, one of Norden's mechanical race.
23:06But you can only find this out by speaking to some real Modrins or Ivana, the Galeria owner.
23:11Only then can you get a chance to solve the cube's puzzle, which will then teleport you to a maze.
23:16This labyrinth is one of the most difficult levels the game has to offer, with plenty of strong enemies and
23:20shifting parts.
23:21Norden stands as your prize for making it through it all.
23:30What video game characters took you the most effort to unlock?
23:33Share your stories with us in the comments.
23:34See you next time.
23:34Let's āk a Anyway, once more of you are in a pod, the first time
23:37I'm going to show you the notes until I'm over.
23:38We will be right there.
23:42Bye-bye.
23:42Bye.
23:42Soon, we'll be right back.
23:42T-T-T-T, so let's go before I get started.
23:49The next time I get started.
