00:13rescue teams from Switzerland and Italy, following the June 24th Twin Airquakes.
00:21The Marcian Association of Cubans residing in Panama filed a formal complaint against
00:26United States President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War
00:31Pique Hesse.
00:35The Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing a severe Ebola outbreak that has left nearly
00:40400 people dead.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South, I am Lorena Fon from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:54We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:08The Acting President Elsie Rodriguez has led an official ceremony to decorate international
01:13rescue teams from Switzerland and Italy, following the June 24th Twin Airquakes.
01:18Amid a sorry national death toll that has tragically passed 2,200 fatalities, Rodriguez awarded the
01:25Heroes of Venezuela a medal to specialized Swiss and Italian brigades as well as their heroic
01:30canine units.
01:32The ceremony honored the 90 Italian disaster specialists alongside Swiss urban search and
01:37rescue teams, who deployed advanced structural tracking systems and trained rescue dogs to
01:43pull survivors from collapsed buildings.
01:45Officials expressed the nation's profound gratitude to the European contingent for providing vital
01:51lifeline operations during Venezuela's darkest hour.
01:59From La White State, which was hit hottest by the June 24th earthquakes, Acting
02:05President Elsie Rodriguez evaluated the field hospitals set up by the United States, France, Germany,
02:10Peru, Jordan and the International Red Cross to provide immediate care to those affected.
02:16The Acting President also visited the various operational bases of the international rescue teams at the
02:21Jorge Luis GarcĂa Carneiro Stadium.
02:23In this scenario, Delci RodrĂguez thanked the rescue personnel and specialized professionals
02:28operating in search and rescue efforts.
02:31Let's recall that more than 20 teams and at least 3,300 international rescuers have joined the
02:37search and rescue operations, demonstrating the cooperation and bonds of friendship with Venezuela.
02:51Also, the Acting President Elsie Rodriguez led a meeting to evaluate the deployment and
02:55reinforcement of military personnel, primarily stationed in La White State as well as critical
03:00points in Caracas and Aragua State. The primary objective of this strategic deployment is to guarantee
03:06the public order and safeguard collapse, commercial and residential areas, thus preventing violations
03:13of private property and ensuring the tranquility of the population during the emergency.
03:18Attendees included Sectoral Vice President of Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Gustavo Cabello,
03:24Minister of Defense Gustavo González López, Commander General of the Bolivarian National Guard,
03:30Juan Ernesto Azul Parán, and other members of citizen security entities.
03:40Venezuela has deployed more than 6,400 doctors following the emergency situation generated by
03:46the twin earthquakes that affected several regions of the country. The national government throughout
03:51the Ministry of Health reported that healthcare personnel remain on duty to guarantee comprehensive
03:56medical care for the Venezuelan people in the required health areas. The health authority is setting
04:02up field hospitals and enabling additional surgical areas to expand the hospital care network to
04:08respond to needs in the face of the emergency. In this context, authorities reaffirmed that the civic military
04:14deployment with health professionals demonstrates their commitment to the Venezuelan people amid the mourning
04:20that engulfs the country following the tragedy.
04:30Venezuela honors the rescue dog Tsunami, one of its most famous heroes, who had saved dozens of lives
04:36following the June 24th earthquakes. Tsunami, the eight-year-old border collie that has worked non-stop to
04:43find trapped people under the debris after the earthquakes that shook the country a week ago,
04:50has become a four-legged hero. In the Miranda municipality of Carrizal, an artist created a colorful mural
04:56that honors the bravery of this canine, who helped find dozens of people alive from among the rubble of
05:03collapsed building in La Guaire State. In this sense, Tsunami is one of over 100 rescue dogs from several
05:10countries currently working in earthquakes-hit areas and who are trained to detect the smell of victims
05:15trapped as far as 10 meters beneath the rubble.
05:25And the Venezuelan's acting president, Elsie Rodriguez, announced a decree declaring a seven-day
05:30national mourning period beginning this Wednesday for the victims of the double earthquakes that struck
05:35the country on June 24th. Throughout her official Telegram channel, the president stated, Venezuela's
05:41soul is torn apart by the loss of life caused by the devastating earthquakes. Today we stand in
05:47solidarity with the families who have lost their loved ones and we offer our prayers for the injured,
05:53the missing and the affected communities. Furthermore, the acting president added,
05:56in honor of the victims, I have decided to declare seven days of national mourning beginning at 6 pm today.
06:03She concluded her message by saying, in these moments of deep sadness, we embrace those who are
06:09suffering from this tragedy and affirm our commitment to stand by them and protect them.
06:21And in this context, the international community continues to express solidarity and condolences
06:26with the Venezuelan people following the devastating earthquakes of June 24. At the opening of the
06:31ministerial dialogue of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Spain, country
06:36delegations expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with Venezuela after the twin earthquakes. Likewise,
06:41international representatives recognized the efforts of civil protection bodies, firefighters, national
06:47and international rescue teams and organized communities in the hottest heat areas in the north
06:52of the country. In the midst of adversity, it is worth noting that organized communities and
06:56international solidarity demonstrate that unity among people is the main force that can lift a country up.
07:10of the nation. Venezuela is a nation united in grief. Yet out of the dust and devastation of the unfolding
07:16tragedy,
07:17harrowing stories are emerging of mothers who made the ultimate sacrifice to save their children.
07:27A nation built on concrete now measured in loss. Venezuela is reeling after twin earthquakes. Magnitudes 722 and 75 struck
07:36the nation, followed by more than 700 aftershocks.
07:40The official death toll has climbed past 2000. However, the death toll could have been even more overwhelming had it
07:46not been for those mothers who served as a shield for their children as the buildings collapsed.
07:52Stories of maternal heroism are defining this tragedy. Andrea, wife of local athlete, Ektor Beyo, used her own body to
08:00absorb a falling wall, saving her two-year-old daughter. Andrea did not survive.
08:07Another mother acted as an external lung, keeping her 18-day-old baby alive in the suffocating dust for a
08:13full day before rescue. Hundreds of children now wander as orphans, saved only because their mothers chose to protect them
08:19until their final breaths.
08:22In a disaster where the difference between life and death is pure chance, Venezuela's mothers continue to sustain life.
08:36National and international rescue teams rescued Hernan Hill after he spent eight days trapped under the rubble of a building
08:43in Playa Grande in La Guaira, Venezuela, after the double earthquakes on Wednesday, June 24.
08:48This Thursday, the Red Cross, the Chilean rescue teams, together with at least ten national and international teams, successfully rescued
08:56a person trapped under the ruins of a building in Playa Grande in Catelamar.
09:00The brigades spent more than 114 continuous hours attempting to rescue operation.
09:06The 44-year-old Venezuelan victim was fed liquid food through a tube until the operation was successful.
09:13National and international rescuers celebrated the rescue operation.
09:26And now we have a short break.

09:57Welcome back from the South.
09:58The Merchant Association of Cubans residing in Panama and six other Panamanian civil society organizations filled a formal complaint with
10:05the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights against United States President Donald Trump, Secretary of State
10:12Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hezek.
10:14The complaint holds Trump and other senior officials responsible for crimes against humanity, genocide, and other grave violations of international
10:23law against populations in non-America and the Caribbean, especially the Cuban people.
10:28The document demands justice and an end to the harassment of sovereign nations.
10:33This initiative reforms the enduring legacy of Cuban national hero José Martí and demonstrates active solidarity in the face of
10:40imperialism.
10:50Well, we didn't file the complaint against the United States.
10:54We failed it against U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Defense Secretary Pete
11:03Hexet for alleged crimes against humanity.
11:10It has three dimensions, a political one, a legal one, which we hope will move forward through the appropriate legal
11:20terms, and communicative and symbolic one.
11:24This is important because these individuals, especially Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have been relentless in piercing an aggressive policy
11:42toward the countries of Latin America.
11:50Humberto Pérez, President of the Association of Cuban Residents in Panama, outlined before the United Nations the three main pillars
11:57of the complaint field against President Trump, Rubio, and Heset.
12:06First, what happened in Venezuela.
12:09They allegedly carried out a military operation to kidnap a legitimately elect president, during which 32 Cubans and several Venezuelans
12:20were killed.
12:21Second, the alleged extrajudicial executions of both operators.
12:28They were killed at sea without prior identifications, intelligence analysis, interrogations, or any legal proceedings against them.
12:39And finally, the issue of the U.S. blockade on Cuba, which has intensified in recent years, including restrictions on
12:49oil supplies that have contributed to Cuba's energy crisis.
12:53The situation in Cuba is serious.
13:12In Chile, the government authorities issued a red alert due to strong winds in municipalities of Pucon and Villarrica.
13:19The special alert focuses primarily on the tourist towns of Pucon and Villarrica in the AraucanĂa region due to damage
13:26caused by winds of up to 100 km per hour.
13:29The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service activated emergency protocols to immediately mobilize financial and logistical resources to the most
13:41vulnerable areas.
13:42The latest official report indicates that more than 120,000 households are without electricity, major roadways have collapsed, and activities
13:51at winter resorts in the area have been suspended.
14:01A ravaging fire struck the old town of Panama City, specifically in the Terrapilene area, a neighborhood of great cultural
14:08and touristic value.
14:09The flames destroyed the two historic buildings, locally known as Cacerones, forcing the immediate deployment of fire department units.
14:17The firefighters' efforts focused primarily on containing the spread of the fire and action that, according to the official report,
14:24prevented the loss of life.
14:27The incident occurred just two days after the fire that broke out early Sunday morning on 12th Street in the
14:34same old town,
14:35a disaster that destroyed several wooden homes and left more than 22 families homeless.

15:13Welcome back to From the South and a continuing France official recalls for presidential elections.
15:19The first round will take place on April 18, 2027, following a possible second round on May 2.
15:26The elections will mark the constitutional end of Emmanuel Macron's term and will give way to a close race between
15:33the left, the Conservative bloc and the far right.
15:36Since the French electoral system provides for runoff, if no candidate achieves an absolute majority,
15:42authorities have already planned and preserved May 2, 2027, for this possible runoff.
15:49Among the candidates who have confirmed their intention to run are figures from Macron's circle,
15:54such as former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Gabriel Atal, as well as the leader of the left, Jean-Luc
16:00Mélenchon,
16:00who will be running for president for the fourth time.
16:10The Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face a severe Ebola outbreak that has left nearly 400 people dead.
16:17There have been more than 1,300 confirmed cases with 609 patients currently undergoing treatment and 189 who have recovered.
16:26The epidemic is concentrated in the provinces of Ituri, North Kibu and South Kibu, where health measures have been intensified.
16:33The virus is primarily transmitted by fruit bats and other jungle animals and spreads strong contact with the bodily fluids
16:40of infected individuals.
16:42In this scenario, authorities are maintaining active surveillance against the disease, which continues to pose a threat to the Congolese
16:49population.
16:56The Nigerian government has called for the immediate release of several students kidnapped by an armed group whose identity remains
17:04unknown,
17:04as no organization has claimed responsibility for the crime.
17:0837 people, including 36 students and one staff member, remained held captive following a violent attack by armed men on
17:16a public high school in Lhasa, Borno State.
17:18During the raid, which included the murder of a teacher, the attackers arrived at the school on motorcycles before proceeding
17:25with the kidnapping.
17:26Although eight people, including the assistant principal, were rescued by security forces, the situation remains critical.
17:42The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that it intercepted more than 63,000 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles during the first
17:49six months of the year.
17:51This figure corresponds to the first half of 2026 and represents an average of between 10,000 and 11,000
17:58attacks per month.
17:59Separately, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that between January 1st and June 30,
18:04the Ukrainian army suffered 223,229 casualties, peaking in June with 41,300 during the first recorded cases.
18:21It is worth noting that since the beginning of the conflict, the launch of Ukrainian drones against military and civilian
18:27targets on Russian territory has become routine.
18:37And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
