00:23Hello, studios, once again here from Havana in this colloquium dedicated to the legacy and the future of Fidel Castro
00:30in his centenary
00:32and the ideas so relevant today, particularly to the global south.
00:36And we have the pleasure right now of being joined by Ms. La Minizuma, South African politician, also former foreign
00:44affairs minister.
00:45Thank you so much for joining us here in Telesur.
00:47And we would like your impressions, your opinion.
00:50Why is it important to be in Cuba today discussing these ideas?
00:56Well, it's very important to be here and we are all happy to be here because we are celebrating a
01:03very special person,
01:05a revolutionary, an internationalist and someone who cared very much for humanity, Fidel Castro.
01:19And we are celebrating 100 years of his birth and that's very important to remember him because a lot of
01:28us are here as free citizens in large measure to the contribution of Fidel
01:37and the Cuban people and the Cuban people, some of us, some of us, some of us, Cubans actually lost
01:46their lives in defense of our freedom.
01:49And so we can't miss celebrating this centenary of Fidel Castro.
01:57But also it's important to be here in solidarity with the Cubans who are going through a very, very difficult
02:07time at this point when the embargo has been intensified.
02:13They had, they had, they can't receive oil, they can't receive essential things, medicines and so on.
02:20So it's very important to show our solidarity.
02:25But going forward, we must also act in solidarity with them, not just talk, but act as well.
02:34Now, Fidel was a key actor, particularly in understanding the role between Cuba and South Africa at such a challenging
02:42time.
02:43What do you think we could take away for our present of that cooperation, that kingship also between Fidel and
02:50Mandela, for example?
02:51What can we recover from that today in these hard times for Cuba and the global South as a whole?
02:56I think we must understand that freedom is indivisible.
03:02You can't be truly free if I'm not.
03:04And I can't be truly free if you are not.
03:08So that's what Fidel stood for, that Cuba cannot be truly free unless everyone else was free.
03:17And that's why he was ready to fight, not just to speak, but to fight for freedom for everyone.
03:27But also, he taught us that the best investment is in human beings.
03:36You invest in education, you invest in their health, in their nutrition.
03:42That's the best investment a country can do.
03:47And that's why we can see Cuba still standing, despite all the problems that are being imposed on them.
03:55But they are still standing, and we should stand with them.
