00:22rock podcast on all podcast platforms and now it's time for today's conversation here's meltdown
00:29hey tim good to see you man where are you at are you like in a you know hunting or
00:32something in
00:33cabin what's going on i am in my tour coach because i just spent uh two months driving around
00:39this thing and i have a hard time getting out of it so i live in the yard for quite
00:42a while till i
00:43can adjust to going back inside i haven't yet so i'm sitting here in wise river montana oh my god
00:48you're making me jealous man coach man sitting in the coach i'm a weirdo like that adjusting from
00:55being on the road for that long is actually it's a weird challenge it's a strange thing you don't
01:00understand unless you do it um and so i just i've got a show friday in montana and then i
01:05gotta leave
01:06monday for stockton so i just live in my suitcase my suitcase is still over there and i've been at
01:10home for three weeks my wife's like are you gonna grace this with your presence i'm like come out to
01:15the motorhome yeah there you go yeah why not right well uh man you're making me jealous with all that
01:21open space out there uh i'm gonna see you by the way at sturgis i'm gonna be out there no
01:25way
01:26yeah awesome i'll be broadcasting at the full throttle with uh jesse and the boys so yeah
01:31cool very cool yeah you're opening up for a jackal on i believe the 13th if i'm not mistaken correct
01:36yeah yeah and we just played detroit man i went to mom's spaghetti that place is good
01:40yeah what'd you yeah i think you think that was okay yeah i had a great time and the girls
01:44there
01:45were sweet as they could be and then they sent me upstairs to look at m&m's little gift shop
01:49yeah and i made the weirdest conclusion that my single wide trailer had the same wall that his
01:56trailer did and i was like i kind of paused and i was like i know this this looks like
02:00my childhood
02:01bedroom and i was like we grew up similar but very different yeah well yeah for sure uh you know
02:08so
02:09the radio station here is off of eight mile which is you know where you probably saw the movie and
02:13stuff yeah yeah yeah so yeah next time you come up you guys swing by eight mile uh the uh
02:18the new
02:19record is uh coming out on july 31st we'll get to that here in a second but uh right away
02:23i just
02:23had to ask you about this so in the song break me down you say ghost in the basement have
02:27you ever
02:27had a paranormal experience
02:31had ufo i had one paranormal experience actually filming what was supposed to be a bs series called
02:39tim montana out of water we went ghost hunting and they rented a vrbo and these professional tv guys
02:44were like making noises and stuff and trying to get me that scared i'm like guys i have a friend
02:49that has a barn with a graveyard next to it where a family was murdered by a like some last
02:55native war
02:56they had in tennessee in like the 17 or early 1800s let's go somewhere that really he's seen
03:02things and they were kind of like okay and we went there and something clawed the wall and growled
03:08and i knew it was legit because the camera dude drops camera and bolts
03:14and i welcomed it i love that kind of stuff i'm like man i'm into that so yeah you had
03:19a ufo experience
03:20too yeah the ufo experience was wild that was uh probably three years ago i was driving the charlie
03:26bus i drive so it's late at night i'm going from billions to great falls and between billions and
03:33great falls is our nation's nuclear uh weapons stuff is up there and i actually just went and
03:38played for the troops at that base melmstrom air force base and so i'm traveling through it is
03:43pitch black two lane highway i remember the sign like it was yesterday dead man's gulch and i look
03:47up and i think i see a train like in the tree line going like white lights going like this
03:52and i'm like
03:53oh wow a train that's a lot of lights on the train i guess they have white spotlights on each
03:57car maybe
03:57it's a mining train and then uh our background singer molly brown sitting up front she's like
04:03doesn't look like he's going that way it looks like it's spinning what would be spinning with white
04:08lights and so i slow the bus down and we're watching it there's like this hill right here
04:12and we're watching this thing oscillate huge size of a football field and set down in the field so i
04:19pull
04:19the bus over get everyone else up i'm screaming and we can now see over that hill this entire field
04:26is lit up like a football field and we're like okay so we had a full conversation but i was
04:32stopped
04:32on a corner there's a big no trespassing sign with a barbed wire fence i'd already glocked up like my
04:38nine millimeter was going to do something to a spacecraft
04:43and we voted against going over there because my drummer's like a it's no trespassing b what are we
04:50gonna do when we walked up on a spacecraft that's that big or whatever kind of craft that was
04:55and we kept going but i'll tell you what that i went back to that spot on the way out
04:59there's
05:00nothing in that field there's no railroad tracks there's nothing and that thing was so big and so
05:06lit up and so many of us witnessed it together wow how many years ago is this two or three
05:11probably
05:12three years ago wow that's a great story man that's right between billions great falls the sign says
05:19dead man's gulch and that sucker sat down on the field right behind the hill wow well we'll have to
05:25send some investigators over there uh july 31st like i said the new record you just mentioned uh charlie
05:30sheen you know i forgot that she had his bust and stuff but uh he's on your record a robert
05:34patrick of
05:35course richard patrick's brother the terminator or whatnot uh jerry cantrell slash uh billy f gibbons
05:40i mean you got all these uh got all these special martin sheen don't forget him yeah martin sheen
05:44yeah that's right man you got all these guests uh what's what's with that um i haven't done a lot
05:50of collab stuff i've done here and there and then with this record it was kind of a full circle
05:54moment
05:55of i made a list of my ultimate heroes and i got them all plus more i thought i'd give
06:01i remember
06:01being like so do we want slash or cantrell and i tried for both and got both and i'm like
06:06whoa
06:07not knowing that either were even possible um so yeah just man it's a full circle moment of
06:14my heroes and then it kind of ended up getting the movie stars from the same era that i discovered
06:19these bands so i'm like this is like a throwback to my youth of like actors musicians like it's ended
06:26up being really cool so well it is so cool i saw the uh i saw the spin article where
06:31you you talked
06:31about you know your favorite five albums and obviously uh dirt was in there and your favorite
06:35record according to the list anyways was uh appetite for destruction do you remember the first time
06:40you met slash did you tell him about that or did you tell him how much of an impact it
06:43had
06:44i didn't until later i played with him at billy gibbons birthday jam um we did lagrange and
06:51california love together it's kind of that was just recently at the troubadour is that the one
06:54yep yep on the troubadour and we didn't have too much time to visit because he's slashed and he's
06:59getting hounded by everybody but then when billy sent you know called him and said hey i want you
07:04to play on this song slash agreed to play on the song before he heard the song which i was
07:08like
07:09you know papa rock says play on a song slash is like yes sir but uh i texted him after
07:16the fact there
07:16was an article that someone wrote that the first tape i'd ever found and that's why i had to put
07:21appetite for destruction there it wasn't the whole record it was a tape
07:24at our pawn shop the one side had mr brownstone the other side i'd welcome the jungle yeah it was
07:29a radio promo thing from the 80s and and we had it in our pawn shop in a box of
07:34you know i'd always
07:35get cds and tapes and my mother was like super religious and she hated anything edgy rock cussing
07:43but yet she'd give me these boxes from the pawn shop so i discovered tool in there i was like
07:47whoa
07:48she only wanted to be listening to christian music i'm like sick
07:54and one time there was a box of nudie magazines in there and my mom didn't know it i'm like
07:58wow
08:00and you still got those in that camper right there so that's right but yeah that song's called brown
08:05sugar man that song is is a that's a jam yeah that was fun wasn't it and that intro too
08:12you hear billy's jewelry vibrating around that was just him one take with the mic a guitar no
08:18iso booth and he was instructing me on how to play the song that wasn't supposed to be on the
08:22record
08:23like tell tim this is how you play it and he sent it to me and i'm like i'm not
08:27gonna redo that because
08:28that would be gross of me to even attempt to do something like that because you sound so cool
08:34so we just put it on the album like that and i was like i'll start later in the song
08:37gibbons you're
08:38gonna open it up so well as somebody once told me billy gibbons is always the coolest guy in the
08:43room always even in his pajamas man he just has a presence about him i mean even kid rock would
08:50agree with that you know i think that's i think that's who told me that right right and i've seen
08:55those two years ago i drove billy up there and they start bickering about this and that
09:01and i'm like oh god i hate it when rock stars bicker it makes me really uncomfortable
09:06and then billy goes get me a plate of food bob and bob like walks in and he goes don't
09:11tell him
09:12i said this but i'd fold his underwear if he asked
09:14hey i went to rock's house one day and he made me spaghetti so see he's making me dinner too
09:23he's pretty good at the dinner game yeah there's no doubt so the record drops on july 31st so tell
09:28us a little bit more about the uh about the album of course break me down is out
09:31and uh brown sugar uh tell me about the rest of it yeah man i've got the features on there
09:37um
09:3816 tracks one of my favorites is where i went to the crow reservation in montana and worked with
09:44native youth uh singing on it and music video for that i cannot explain to you how powerful to me
09:51it
09:51is um it was a full circle moment grew up dancing in powwows when i was a kid and got
09:56to go work with
09:56the crow performers and the drum circle and first crazy dog wolf bear um but the video we filmed is
10:02on the little bighorn river on the native side where sitting bowl had a sweat lodge and i didn't
10:08even know there was a native side right i just thought it was the you know battle little bighorn
10:13memorial and park where they have all the gravestones of the natives that died and custer and seventh
10:17calvary but they have the other side that's owned by sean real bird and the real bird family
10:22and i got permission to go on there and i'm like so where was sitting bowl sweat lodge where he
10:27had
10:27the vision of killing custer and they're like you're standing on it this is where he had his
10:31sweat this is where crazy horse this is where all the tribes came together for the biggest
10:36butt kicking in american war history at that point um and uh it's pretty wild man pretty powerful so that
10:43that one's special um and especially when that video comes out i've showed it to quite a few people
10:49and their jaws just hit the floor like that's the most magical thing i've ever seen so we
10:53we captured some magic there um and even playing it live people go nuts because i have the tracks
10:58with the natives singing in the background that i play i'm like hey i'm going to feature my friends
11:01from crow agency montana so that was either going to be a really cool art project or a contemporary rock
11:09song that can compete in today's market and we accidentally got both you know my radio team heard it and
11:15they're like we're gonna go with this thing next so i'm just like wow so it's gonna be cool
11:19and and down on the reservation too they hear break me down on the radio and first crazy dog's like
11:24dude we go nuts when we hear it i'm like what are you guys gonna do when you hear your
11:28voices on the
11:29radio this shit's gonna get wild down there yeah no doubt 16 tracks like you said uh what is uh
11:37what
11:38is charlie and uh and martin sheehan doing on this they're doing a skit for the intro so i asked
11:43charlie
11:43because he named the album i asked him to do like an intro of just like uh welcome to the
11:48entire
11:49estate of tim montana and he said no no no no no let me write a skit so he wrote
11:53a proper skit
11:54a courtroom where he's like giving a deposition to a prosecutor turns out he's done that before
12:01he wasn't acting no no he's really good at it so yeah but i'm excited man we even did a
12:07cover of
12:08katie perry roar because i learned that from my daughter years ago and uh there's some dark moments
12:13there's fun moments there's cover moments i got my friend royal lynn on here uh it's it's gonna be a
12:19really cool record i can't wait for people to hear it now every time that a record comes on there's
12:24a
12:24bunch of special guests on it i always have to ask was there other people that you tried to get
12:27on but
12:27for whatever reason just couldn't couldn't do it not on this one this one i got more than i like
12:32martin sheen was the random one i was like what charlie's like dude i got my dad to play the
12:38judge
12:39and i was like oh cool and then i kind of paused i'm like you're dad so the first voice
12:46on this
12:47record i would have never guessed this in a million years ever is martin sheen he opens the album yeah
12:52it is pretty cool to have those surreal moments like that um so did you meet um did you meet
12:57robert
12:57patrick through like jesse at the at the volt throttle or anything like where'd you meet him i met him
13:02through jared neiman country artists in nashville okay because they did uso tours together so he
13:08facetime me with robert then robert comes to montana to film 1923 with taylor sheridan
13:14so we'd regularly go have breakfast and hang out and then i'd meet him down in sturges as well so
13:19and then i go on tour with richard patrick and filter and that was kind of a moment and uh
13:25yeah so
13:25robert's become a really good buddy he's been up to my restaurant here in montana a bunch and
13:29just he's been to my mom's house for dinner he's on the trailer house i grew up in
13:34my mom like i said super religious we're sitting around the campfire and she goes robert if you
13:40look at the sky up here you might see a shooting star and he's having a steak and he looks
13:44up and
13:44he sees one and he goes i'm not gonna say it jfc really loud is the abbreviations for the cuss
13:53my mom's like robert he's like oh i'm so sorry barry i've never seen anything like it
14:01so they're going wow
14:05that's hysterical hey uh by the way and then in that spin did you write this a mediocre father
14:11with a cool bar in montana did you write that part yeah okay i wasn't sure if they were giving
14:17you a bunch of grief or whatever but i thought that's an interesting line i was like damn i must
14:23have been in full posterior depression when i wrote that line came out around father's day i'm like
14:28yikes oh yeah it's so funny too you mentioned how you know you're living in you know you showed us
14:34all
14:34that all that barren land out there and it's like what are the new things on like tiktok or insta
14:39or whatever it's like it's hard to go from this to this and that's exactly how you're feeling
14:43right right exactly yeah getting off the stage so well i know you got other interviews dude uh
14:48july 31st a new record drops the entire state of tim montana and uh we will see you on the
14:5413th if
14:55not sooner of august uh for the uh show in sturgis look me up yeah man can't wait let's hang
