00:26it's time for today's conversation here's meltdown usually i'll talk to people from columbus ohio on

00:32a daily basis but we'll we'll make an exception this time that's right dude we got across we got

00:36across the line every once in a while to conduct commerce dude that's right i think that i i drove

00:42through your hometown when i went down to a hawking hills over the summertime oh yeah dude what were

00:47you doing in hawking hills just chilling yeah it was uh the 25th anniversary and the wife never been

00:52there and she's not much of a hiker so i spent most of time waiting for her there you go as i got to

01:00the top of wherever we were going have you been there oh yeah dude i mean that was like the spot

01:05growing up it's like 45 minutes away i think my my grandma had a cabin there so we were there every

01:11like summer hanging out vibing dude yeah i've never been there it was cool they i even i even got a cool

01:18record from uh i'm a vinyl guy so i got a cool record from one of the antique stores there uh but

01:23we won't get into that let's talk about your record man i could talk about ohio and all that stuff all

01:26day long but uh so what's going on with the band man there's a lot of things happening for you guys

01:30for you man i'm just sitting playing runescape all day gaming getting doordash dude vape no i'm just

01:37kidding um i'm i uh yeah a lot of stuff man i we're going on tour with bad omens this fall and

01:44we've just finished up three straight weeks of writing music and i think we've got the record

01:49all the way nailed down so um as far as writing is concerned so we're gonna go and record everything

01:56real nice and pretty like in the next two weeks i would say once we get back from uh our tour in

02:04october and then we're hopefully done with it at that point send it off to mixing and get her out next

02:10year yeah you seem like the kind of guy that likes to uh put out a lot of music uh and you don't like

02:14to waste time it's uh now there was about a year and a half or so between the last two records but

02:19early on in your career i was looking it's like you you were like uh like kiss back in the 70s like

02:23every six months or so is that kind of like your mo well i feel like at the time it was just kind of

02:29like uh there was no rules because i had no audience so it's just like i would write eight songs and be

02:36like well i'll just put it out and upload it like that week you know and that was really fun to me

02:42and now i really actually enjoy being a lot more selective so you know we've probably written

02:46three four hundred songs for this record and we're gonna pick 15 of them so um that's like to me

02:53what has been really fun is that kind of addicting game in my head of like here's a good song can i

02:59make a better one and you just keep playing that game over and over and over again it makes me a

03:03better writer but it also you know i think makes the record really special because it's truly like

03:08the most purified form of whatever you're making at the time now i remember talking to james

03:13headfield one time and he called it the riff junkyard do you have a riff junkyard where you

03:17just kind of put stuff where you might not fit now but maybe later yeah absolutely yeah i call it

03:22the landfill actually i didn't know he used that term too i was like yeah we're gonna chuck this one in

03:27the landfill and every once in a while i'd troll through the landfill to see if i left any gems in

03:31there but most of the time i feel like we're all pretty good uh at like making sure we discard what

03:36needs to be discarded and i do have a couple sick riffs in the junkyard that i would like to put on

03:41a song so hopefully you know we write something where i can get those riffs in there yeah well it's

03:47resonating with some it's resonating with some of the rock fans out there you guys sold out a show

03:50here in uh royal oca a couple months ago what a show man such a cool venue too and detroit has always

03:57been so good to us obviously got that midwest connection so that's sweet and um genuinely like

04:05and i i say this truthfully the detroit shows and fans they're more rowdy than like most other places

04:12it is like every time we i see detroit on the list i'm like dude yes this show is gonna be sick like

04:19the we played detroit last year and my sound guy was like i was literally having trouble because i could

04:25not get the pa loud enough to be over the crowd and i was like well that's a great problem to have

04:30and shout out detroit for giving us that to deal with so where was that show at that was at oh man

04:37um was it downtown like st andrews or a shelter or something that's the one yeah yeah sick also

04:45yeah great funny of course uh eight mile you've seen that movie i'm sure yeah yeah that it's kind

04:50of like the the the rap battles take place down below yeah yes where the green rooms are and

04:56everything yeah so that's really cool so you got a bunch of new music coming out and like you said

05:01you got this bad omens tour you're really hopping on some big tours got some big festivals coming up

05:06as well what kind of pressure does that put on you um honestly it's really interesting like

05:12i'm really glad that that bill murray has gotten a lot of reps without being in the spotlight

05:18um you know we've got to tour for like three three or four years uh before we started getting

05:25these really big opportunities i'm so grateful that i got to like learn a lot of lessons about

05:30how to perform and and especially even just the live band as well before we got put on these big

05:35stages but really like you know you look at the crowd and you're like that's different but what i'm

05:40doing on stage does not change and if i really just focus on like what i'm doing on stage it takes a

05:46lot of the pressure away and then at the same time like the thing i always tell myself is like dude

05:51you're doing this to have fun like you're not some god that like people need to witness the miracle of

05:56bill murray it's it's just like go out there have fun enjoy yourself because that's why you started

06:02making music in the first place and if you can really just focus on that a lot of the other stuff

06:07melts away and like you you go back to like i said you know what what made me get into playing music

06:15live in the first place which is is that it's fun and i think that when that when i'm in that head

06:20space on stage it comes across and everyone else in the show is having fun like i'm not here to like

06:25have someone witness a musical miracle i'm here for people to just like enjoy themselves for 30 45

06:30minutes when we go play a festival and that's really it like you know well we see enough musical

06:36miracles on your your videos that kevin hart bit it's funny because he did the same thing here

06:44in detroit but i don't think that was in detroit where you were that that sound bite you got from

06:47him do you remember where that was from uh that was like the daytona motor speedway okay because

06:54you got the coat and stuff on it seemed like it was a cooler weather area but anyways he gave a speech

06:59before the race happened and i saw it on instagram i was like i need to to do that and we had to

07:05we had to pay nascar for the rights to it but it was worth it so oh so is nascar your favorite

07:12american motorsport dude i mean listen i'm i gotta be honest with you i like i'm not a huge american

07:19motorsport guy genuinely i was i mean i do like nascar and i like indycar but it's i'm not gonna sit

07:27here and lie and say that it's my favorite thing in the world i'm ohio state football through and

07:31through but um you know like my manager was like you know we could name the album something american

07:38motorsports because he was driving by this car dealership that said that and i was like well i

07:42think that's probably what we'll name it because it sounds sick and that's really all it is so but

07:47yeah shout out nascar dude obviously love love nascar as well so and thanks for letting us use the

07:52clip uh we were very i was like man i don't think this song is going to be nearly as cool if we don't

07:57have this sample in there so i'm super grateful for them you know have you heard from kevin james's

08:03people about using it or no i want him to come fucking sing that shit so so bad um you know and

08:11kevin james if you're out there please please uh hop on stage at a murray show it would mean the world

08:18to us yeah now i'm gonna ask a hack question which i'm sure you've been asked a million times but it's

08:23like uh with the band bill murray have you ever met him no i one of my goals is to have him do a

08:29music video so i'm hoping i get to meet him and have him like you know mouth the words to a song

08:34and we just film it and go from there but no i've never met him yet i hope to meet him soon though

08:39i mean but i mean you know another hack question why do you name the band bill murray i know you've

08:43been around for 10 years you probably answered us a million times well i i named it that because i

08:48knew that i would have to to answer that question and i like i knew that uh like if people are going

08:53to ask me what the the name bill murray is for the rest of my life i want it to be at least something

08:59that they can get a little bit of joy out of where it's like what's the name of your band bill murray

09:03you know it's like an enjoyable interaction as opposed to whatever thing other thing it could be

09:09i'm like man i want it to be enjoyable for people to hear the band name for the first time so that was

09:14really kind of all the thought i put into it yeah all right last thing here for you because they're

09:18giving me the wrap-up sign uh but the uh i i've seen spinal tap twice this week have you seen it

09:24the new one but yes oh the new one no no is it any good yeah it's fun yeah anyways i was just

09:32curious if you'd seen it oh i i usually wait there's so much stuff that comes out i wait for

09:37like if enough recommendations bubble up then i'll go watch it but yeah i'm back on the reading books

09:43grind that's what i'm doing now dude i'm trying to get off the screens well that makes that makes

09:49one of us but um it says uh striving to obtain the most optimal levels of urethral riffage i think
