One Caribbean Media Limited joined hundreds of volunteers at Quinam Beach in Siparia today, marking International Coastal Cleanup Day. The initiative formed part of the company's corporate social responsibility. Here's more.

00:00Over 200 corporate citizens turned up with gloves and garbage bags at Quinam Beach today
00:06in commemoration of International Coastal Cleanup Day.
00:11And of course, One Caribbean Media was out and on numbers, doing all parts to help keep a clean scene.
00:18So we're at One Caribbean Media. We're proud to support the International Coastal Cleanup Initiative.
00:23It's all about protecting the environment and especially our coastline.
00:28So Trinidad and Tobago has over, I understand, like 500 kilometers of coastline.
00:33And we play a key role in the Caribbean's blue economy.
00:41A healthy shoreline, our healthy ocean supports jobs, food security and sustainable development.
00:49So we stand in solidarity with our subsidiary Green Dot, helping make a difference.
00:55The event is a global exercise, which has seen more than 380 million pounds of trash collected
01:02since its inception over 35 years ago.
01:05Head of the TNT Energy Chamber, Doc Stryver, emphasized the significance of the event.
01:11So all around the world, people are going onto beaches and seashore and picking up and crucially recording
01:22the garbage, which is unfortunately the pollution, which is affecting so many of us and so many of our coastal areas.
01:30And recording all that information, which is collated, and all of the garbage is taken away.
01:38But more importantly, the information is collected and becomes part of the research around the world
01:45into this issue of plastics and other pollution in coastal areas.
01:51Organizers are reminding the public that coastal pollution can damage ecosystems, disrupt food chains, and threaten marine life.
