Days of continuous rainfall have left parts of Central Trinidad under water, with residents in Enterprise among those impacted.
Many were left stranded in their homes, as rising floodwaters made it difficult to move around. TV6 News caught up with local government councillor Brenda John at her office on Friday. She shared her concerns and called on both authorities and citizens to take action.
00:00In the Enterprise community, floodwaters surged into homes and streets following days of adverse weather.
00:08For some residents, it was a night of stress and uncertainty.
00:13Water, the water was switched real high in front of the kids and things.
00:17Like if you go out, you have to stay out until the water comes.
00:20Good on. If you have to go out, you have to wait until the water goes. First, it was bad.
00:24Councillor for Enterprise South and Londonville North, Branda John, said she worked through the night alongside emergency crews and volunteers to bring relief to those affected.
00:35We caught up with her at her office on Friday, where she expressed deep concern over the living conditions some residents face and frustration over the role improper waste disposal continues to play.
00:48Let's work together to bring relief to the residents because some persons really, really need that extra assistance.
00:55I visited homes and tears came to my eye to see how some person's living.
01:01We really need to help our people in society and out there. We ask in the community as well to do their part because it has a lot of garbage, full enough roads, full enough drains.
01:10And when the flood comes, it's making it worse and harder for us to clean and to reach to the residents.
01:16She thanked stakeholders who responded swiftly, providing food, water and other essential supplies to impacted residents.
01:25Cleanup efforts are expected to continue in the coming days as residents hope for a break in the weather and lasting solutions.
