00:00How can he expect a zombie to go for a morning stroll when all he can hear is that blasting
00:03megaphone?
00:05Here's your look at Trick or Treat Studios' George A. Romero's Day of the Dead zombie specimen, Dr. Tongue.
00:20Trick or Treat Studios is proud to present the officially licensed Day of the Dead Dr. Tongue 5-inch figure
00:26From George A. Romero's classic 1985 zombie epic comes the Day of the Dead official 5-inch Dr. Tongue action
00:32figure.
00:33Dr. Tongue features tongue-wiggling action.
00:35Dr. Tongue comes complete with alligator and miniature newspaper scanned directly from the production-made copy.
00:41I can't help but see the irony now of looking at Dr. Tongue last when really he was the very
00:45first zombie we ever see on screen.
00:47Given the nickname Dr. Tongue by Tom Savini himself, he was mostly done with animatronics and it wasn't really an
00:54actor that was playing the role.
00:55Based on the fact that obviously he's missing his whole lower jaw, that would probably be a harder feat to
00:59do.
01:00But then again, we're talking about Tom Savini here.
01:02A big thank you to the folks over at Trick or Treat Studios that did provide this sample.
01:06So far, we've already now looked at all the three other figures from Day of the Dead without wrapping up
01:11things with Dr. Tongue himself.
01:12For how tall the figure's going to be, let's take our tape measure now.
01:15Dr. Tongue stands 5 inches in height or about 12 and a half centimeters tall.
01:21From this line of figures, we got ourselves two humans and two zombies.
01:25The only other zombie offering, of course, we did get ourselves was Bub.
01:28We then looked at a man who was beside himself, or I guess ahead of himself.
01:32We looked at Captain Henry Rhodes.
01:33And this week, also, we looked at Dr. Sarah Bowman.
01:37Dr. Tongue comes with a newspaper I'm sure by now he can't read.
01:40He also comes with a file card that can be cut on the back, which I'm sure also he can't
01:44read.
01:45Just a gruesome image, though, of Dr. Tongue here on the side.
01:47Zombie specimen, codename Dr. Tongue, kind of tells him that he's part of an affiliate team.
01:53His pro-humus identity is unknown.
01:55His pre-humus occupation is Dr., possibly.
01:59And his age is approximately 68 to 85.
02:02That's quite the window of spanned time.
02:05As observations, I'm sure you could probably read this for yourself.
02:08So far, though, I've cut out all the cards that came in clue with these characters.
02:11Looking forward to doing that as well with Dr. Tongue.
02:14He comes also with a replica of the newspaper scanned from the original copy.
02:19If I carefully open this up, you can see that it's been laminated.
02:23Both sides.
02:24It says, uh, the dead will, uh, walk.
02:27What does that say down below in fine print?
02:29Oh, it says it's back-ordered.
02:31And Dr. Tongue is planning to ship June 30th, 2026.
02:35Looking a little closer.
02:36He's going to be selling for $29.99.
02:39Stop that.
02:40But I do like the fact that he gets himself a little reproduction of the newspaper that we see in
02:44the movie.
02:45I'm not really sure what I'm going to necessarily do with it.
02:47Dr. Tongue doesn't really necessarily have gripping hands anyways.
02:50So it's not like he can carry around the morning newspaper.
02:53I'm going to carefully, though, put it right over here.
02:55The figure does also come in clue with an alligator.
02:57I feel like this alligator doesn't have to be as detailed as it is.
03:01And yet, though, I appreciate the fact that the talented team behind the scenes at TOTS
03:04took a lot of time, not only just to sculpt a pretty cool-looking gator,
03:08but also the fact that they painted it really well, too.
03:11Down to the fact that tiny little eyes there have been painted in yellow.
03:14It does look like it's got a couple of little lighter areas of green,
03:18like the front of the snout, for example.
03:20It's quite flat on the bottom.
03:21But it actually would be making a nice little display piece.
03:24Obviously displayed not only with Dr. Tongue, but maybe even Bub as well,
03:28if he eventually gets out.
03:29Let's move that off to the side.
03:31Getting a closer look at Dr. Tongue,
03:32one thing I can say about the figure, though,
03:34is he's a figure that has to rely on a certain pose.
03:38If you have his legs straight, for example, like I have right now,
03:41you'll see that one foot leans forward and on an angle.
03:44This other foot kind of leans on an also awkward angle.
03:48To have his legs straight, for example,
03:50you can probably have a harder time to get Dr. Tongue to stand.
03:52So you may then have to have his legs on a wider stance
03:56so that he can actually rest and walk properly.
03:59Just to get him in a sweet spot there,
04:01just like that, for example.
04:03That's really the way that you're going to have to display the figure.
04:05And he really is the only Day of the Dead figure
04:08that has to have a dedicated stance to him so he stands properly.
04:12What I like, though, for his gimmick,
04:14it's kind of really hard to see his gimmick.
04:15First, let's look at his gruesome face.
04:18Again, his lower jaw is completely gone altogether.
04:20And again, coined the name Dr. Tongue
04:23by the fact he has this ginormous tongue.
04:25Maybe he was once Gene Simmons.
04:27I don't know.
04:28Anyways, though, I do know he is a really gruesome-looking zombie.
04:32The whole front of it and his face is completely gone altogether.
04:35His nose is...
04:36Well, his nose is gone.
04:37Who knows where it's actually been?
04:39Of course, he has the top and bottom teeth painted really well there in white.
04:43I like that the tongue looks really wet.
04:45And he's actually got all this wet blood all around the front of his suit as well.
04:49He has real hair.
04:51Well, real doll hair, that is.
04:53And I like the fact that they actually included that.
04:54They could have so easily just sculpted this all in just gray plastic.
04:58But by giving it just a little hair, it gives you first something to do.
05:01But it also gives it just a little bit more to look at.
05:05It's somewhat hard to find, though.
05:07But if you lift up his hair, actually, he's got this little tab piece here
05:10that when you flick this up and down,
05:12he actually flicks his tongue up and down, too.
05:16It doesn't necessarily move side to side, but certainly flipping it up and down.
05:20You get a little bit of tongue action.
05:22Excuse me?
05:23A little bit of tongue action.
05:25I wish, though, that there was a way that this tongue could flip up a little bit more.
05:29But at the very least, though, by the fact that they've included a gimmick like this
05:32is a really nice touch.
05:34But again, it's a really neat-looking face.
05:36To bring in Bub so we can show you guys the differences between the two.
05:40I think the effects that they did for Day of the Dead,
05:43some of the best zombie effects ever.
05:46Of course, he does have the suit,
05:48so again, we assume the fact that maybe he was a doctor at one point.
05:52Sculpted really well, too.
05:53I mean, he seems a little full in the frame,
05:56so I don't know how long he's actually been a zombie.
05:58I would think that over time, zombies would start to become malnourished,
06:01unless they're feasting,
06:02maybe by the fact he's got so much blood there on the front of his face,
06:05and all around his tie.
06:06Maybe Dr. Tongue's been eating well.
06:09Although, really, when we see Dr. Tongue,
06:11it's a barren wasteland outside in the city.
06:13Maybe Dr. Tongue's just kind of walking around,
06:15hoping to come across an animal or two.
06:18His hands are posed in such a way
06:20that it probably makes better sense to bring the arms out like this.
06:22So he gives that kind of lungering stance
06:25that zombies generally have in movies like this.
06:28Sculpted really well, though, for the legs.
06:30And again, he's got pebbles on the bottom of his feet,
06:32even though, like, trick-or-treat studios
06:33really have not included display stands.
06:36If, providing, again, you get him in that proper stance.
06:38I don't really think, though,
06:39that Dr. Tongue necessarily needs himself a stand.
06:42But if he did want to use one,
06:44he does have at least the dedicated holes
06:45in the bottoms of his feet to accommodate a stand.
06:48For Dr. Tongue's articulation,
06:51the head isn't going to rotate much.
06:54Yet, though, I was actually surprised to see,
06:56I was thinking, like,
06:57the head was going to be kind of just staction,
06:59like he wouldn't be able to move it at all,
07:00because he had to rely on that little tongue depressor
07:03on the back to move his tongue on the front.
07:05I thought that would basically have just made
07:06his head movement null and void.
07:08But yeah, you can still turn his head
07:10just slightly, though.
07:12Not much, though.
07:13Of course, his arms do rotate all the way around.
07:15You can't do much, really, with his wrists.
07:17You can, however, though, move his legs forward and back.
07:19But again, said already,
07:21you're going to have to definitely get this guy in a pose
07:23where the leg is in the front
07:24and a leg is in the back.
07:26And that seems to be the best way
07:27of displaying Dr. Tongue.
07:28And, of course, when it comes to displaying him,
07:30while you really wouldn't be able
07:31to put a newspaper in his hands,
07:32you could, though, at least put a gator next to him.
07:35Do zombies eat gators?
07:36And if they do, do the gators taste like chicken?
07:40I've never really actually had alligator.
07:42If you have, let me know down below.
07:43And, of course, finally, then,
07:45bringing in the other Day of the Dead figures
07:46that we've already had a look at.
07:49A mingling, a sprinkling in there
07:51of both human survivors and the zombies themselves.
07:54I would say now that we've looked at all of these,
07:56my personal favorites probably would be
07:59Captain Henry Rose,
08:00just because I love the gimmick of being able
08:01to pull the front and back half of his body out
08:04and seeing, again, all his entrails in the middle.
08:07I probably would also say Bub, too,
08:08just because, again, like,
08:09when you think of Day of the Dead,
08:10Bub is the standout zombie for that.
08:13But even then, like,
08:14to say that for Dr. Sarah Bowman
08:15and Dr. Tongue being the less interesting characters,
08:18I can't even do that.
08:19They're fun-looking figures.
08:20They're limited, yes, on possibility.
08:22Expect at the very most, though,
08:23five points, and that's about it.
08:25But then they've also had gimmicks.
08:27Sarah is about the only one
08:28that really didn't have a gimmick,
08:29but she did also have the zombie snare,
08:30which did have a working snare to it.
08:33So at least that's saying something.
08:34Now, again, these are all showing as shipping,
08:37or about to be shipping June 30th of 2026.
08:40So this month, this month,
08:42if you guys are still interested
08:43to get in on the pre-order,
08:44they're going to be listed for $29.99.
08:46In fact, I think I actually said that in the newspaper.
08:48Just look down in a second.
08:50Let's open this up here for a second.
08:51We're still going to run with this joke.
08:52Look, just in a second before we jump to the turntable.
08:56Yeah, I think I'm reading that right.
08:57July 30th, 2026 is the time, though,
09:01that Trick or Treat Studios
09:01are planning to ship these out.
09:03$30 a piece.
09:04Not too bad at all,
09:05considering you're getting gimmick-infused characters,
09:08things that are actually going to be able
09:09to do things on the characters,
09:10other than just having them standing on the shelf.
09:13I find some of the most fascinating aspects
09:14of Dr. Tong are the accessories
09:16that he includes with.
09:17An alligator, as detailed as this is,
09:19is they could have easily simplified
09:21the look at the gator
09:22or not even included it altogether.
09:24The fact that they include that
09:26with a Dr. Tong that already has a gimmick,
09:28that's extra plastic,
09:29that's extra cost,
09:30that's extra budget,
09:31and the fact that they include that
09:33is a welcomed treat.
09:34You know what's also a welcomed treat
09:36is the fact that they also include
09:37a newspaper scan directly
09:38from the production-made copy.
09:40This could so have easily been something
09:42that they could have just molded in plastic,
09:44or if had it been a folded-up piece of paper,
09:47it could have just had gibberish all at it,
09:49just something just to elude the idea
09:51that this would have been a newspaper,
09:52but that it's actually scanned
09:54from the movie-made copy.
09:56I think that's an incredible feat.
09:58The one thing, though, about Dr. Tong
09:59is that I feel like his tongue
10:01is a little underwhelming.
10:02Not that he has the tongue
10:03hanging out the front of what's left of his jaw,
10:06but that he has that little lever on the back.
10:08Now, I had hoped that the lever
10:10could have been,
10:10instead of being flipped up and down,
10:13maybe it could have been
10:14where you could have pulled it back a bit,
10:16and the tongue could have recessed inside his mouth.
10:19I guess one thing with that, though,
10:20they'd have to find a way
10:21of putting a stopping mechanism in that,
10:23because if not for that,
10:24you'd probably be able to pull the tongue
10:25completely out of the back of Dr. Tong's head.
10:28Still, though, it's a welcomed gimmick
10:30that, of course, is included with the figure.
10:31When it comes to certainly displaying him on the shelf,
10:33you're going to have to have him
10:34with a wider stance,
10:35the way that you're seeing right now.
10:37You don't have to necessarily move the arms
10:39in the way that I have it,
10:40but you do want to make sure, though,
10:42that the legs are in a wide stance.
10:44Having them straight together,
10:46the feet are definitely dedicated
10:47in a way that the pose has to be this way.
10:50If not, Dr. Tong is going to take a tumble.
10:52Poor Dr. Tong.
10:54Not poor you at all.
10:55I mean, one thing, though,
10:56is these figures are right now
10:57showing as pre-orders
10:58on Trick or Treat Studio's site.
10:59They're all listed as $29.99,
11:01and they're all listed as showing shipping
11:03this month,
11:04the end of this month, in fact,
11:05June 30th, 2026.
11:07So if you guys are interested
11:08and would like to get these for yourself,
11:10you can click the link down below
11:11in the video description.
11:13A big thank you again
11:14to the folks over at Trick or Treat Studios
11:15that did provide the sample.
11:16We are now wrapping up
11:17what's left of the Day of the Dead,
11:19what's left of the survivors,
11:20and there's not many of them.
11:21We're looking finally, though,
11:23at Dr. Tong,
11:23the iconic first zombie that we see
11:27in a classic Day of the Dead 80s film.
11:29If you guys did enjoy this video,
11:31you can do it as solid and throw it a like.
11:32You guys want to stick around for more?
11:33So I do, yeah, hope so.
11:35We're going to have some more content
11:36coming your way.
11:37So, of course,
11:37I hope you guys are going to be
11:38coming back for that.
11:39As always,
11:40thanks for watching.
11:41See you guys next time.
