00:25you may be and throughout this day let's also pause now dear friends so that you

00:42now let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred
00:46mysteries you were sent to heal the contrite of heart Lord have mercy you
00:52came to call sinners Christ have mercy you are seated at the right hand of the
00:58Father to intercede for us Lord have mercy may Almighty God have mercy on us forgive
01:05us our sins and bring us to everlasting life and then let us pray may the

01:32a reading from the second book of the Kings when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah
01:38learned that her son was dead she promptly did away with all those of royal stock but
01:45Jehoshiba daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah secretly took away
01:51Jehoash her brother's son from among the sons of the king who were being murdered
01:56and put him with his nurse in the sleeping quarters in this way she hid him
02:02from Athaliah and he was not put to death he stayed with her for six years
02:07hidden in the temple of the Lord while Athaliah governed the country in the seventh
02:14year Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds of the carrions and of the
02:18guards and had them brought to him in the temple of the Lord he made a pact with
02:24them and putting them under oath showed them the king's son the commanders of
02:30hundreds did everything as Jehoiada the priest had ordered they brought their men
02:35those coming off duty on the Sabbath together with those mounting guard on the
02:40Sabbath and came to Jehoiada the priest the priests equipped the commanders of
02:46hundreds with King David's spears and shields which were in the temple of the
02:50Lord the guards formed up each man with his weapon in his hand from the south
02:56corner to the north corner of the temple surrounding the altar and the temple then
03:03Jehoiada brought out the king's son put the crown and armlets on him and he
03:08anointed him king they clapped their hands and shouted long live the king
03:15Athaliah on hearing the shouts of the people made for the temple of the Lord
03:18where the people were when she saw the king standing there beside the pillar as
03:24the custom was with the captains and trumpeters at the king's side and all the
03:28country people rejoicing and sounding trumpets
03:32Athaliah tore her garments and shouted treason treason then Jehoiada the priest gave
03:39the order to the army officers take her outside the precincts and put to death
03:46anyone who follows her for the priest has reason had reasoned she must not be put to
03:52death in the temple of the Lord they seized her and when she had reached the
03:57palace through the entry of the horses she was put to death there Jehoiada made a
04:03covenant between the Lord and king and people by which the latter undertook to be
04:08the people of the Lord and also between king and people all the people all the
04:14country people that went to the temple of Baal and demolished it they smashed his
04:19altars and his images and killed Matan priest of Baal in front of the altars the
04:25priest posted entries to guard the temple of the Lord all the country people were delighted
04:32and the city made no move and they put Athaliah to death in the royal palace
