00:00As we fire up some baseball nuggets, let's start with this positive Rangers note.
00:08Malcolm Moore has been promoted to double A, the Texas Rangers number one pick or first round pick in 2024.
00:20He had been scuffling along earlier this season, but he went on the home run tear.
00:25And now you look as he exits high A with a 300 batting average, a 929 OPS.
00:33Let's go.
00:33And then 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 48 games.
00:37So congratulations, Malcolm Moore.
00:39Moving on up to Frisco.
00:43We talked to him at spring training.
00:46We did.
00:47But that was after he got drafted.
00:51So that was not this past spring training, so the spring training before.
00:54So we can't claim the KNC bump?
00:57No, probably not.
00:58Although, if we talked to him this spring training, would you be able to claim the bump if he started
01:03off the season slow?
01:04Oh, yeah.
01:05Good point.
01:05I feel like we would have needed to interview him right before the home run rampage, and then we probably
01:10could have claimed that.
01:11This is great news, man.
01:12This is really good news for him.
01:14And obviously, you know, the Rangers catching situation.
01:17For sure.
01:17We kind of know that this is a year, Kevin, where the Rangers, at some point, I feel, will be
01:25able to look at some younger players.
01:29Well, I'm not saying it's going to be this guy this year.
01:32But I do have another update for you on Sebastian Walcott.
01:38Sebastian Walcott was watching the – is here to watch the Rangers series.
01:45He's on a break from Arizona rehab.
01:48And I believe it was Evan Grant who said he's going to return to Arizona.
01:52His rehab is going to ramp up.
01:54He is way ahead of schedule, and he could actually appear in games starting in late July.
02:02Like, remember, we talked about it looked like it was going to be a lost season.
02:06Yeah.
02:06And then it was like, well, we're going to do something a little different.
02:09Maybe he can be back by August.
02:11I have to admit, I met that with a lot of skepticism.
02:15For sure.
02:15Me, too.
02:15And then Evan Grant's now saying, hey, if you look at where he's at in his rehab, perhaps he could
02:19be back in late July.
02:21And that's huge because this is somebody that I know people want to see in the big club this year.
02:26But you would love to get a couple more months of minor league seasoning in and not just have an
02:30entirely wasted year for him.
02:33You're absolutely right about that, dude.
02:34So –
02:35Get the play time in.
02:36Positive update for Walcott, and then you move up for Malcolm Moore.
02:42I have one more, I guess, kind of positive update.
02:45You remember last Friday, we talked about the peculiarity of the official scoring in that Rangers game where they gave
02:55Jacob Latz the win.
02:57They have now changed that, I'm assuming, because they listened to the K&C masterpiece.
03:02Robbie Alstrom has now been credited with the win, the first win of his career, which is super cool.
03:08But at the same time, if you find out about the first win of your career four days after the
03:14fact, does that take any of the enjoyment away?
03:17I still think you throw the pizza party.
03:19Okay.
03:20Yeah, at whatever pizza establishment it is that you like the most.
03:25Probably not Little Caesars, because aren't they just like a storefront?
03:29They have pizzas, pizzas, pizzas.
03:32Pizza, pizza.
03:33Yeah, you definitely – I think you should throw the pizza party for your first win.
03:37And then Jacob Latz, he now got the save.
03:41By the way, Jacob Latz' appreciation going into last night's game of all AL pitchers with at least 25 appearances
03:50in 30 innings.
03:51Latz was first in whip, second in ERA, second in strikeout per walk ratio, fourth in war, and he leads
03:59all MLB relievers with saves of one-plus innings.
04:03Sounds like an all-star to me.
04:04He might be the second Rangers all-star.
04:06Sounds like an all-star to me.
04:08He might be – if they only get two, he might be the two.
04:11And I think –
04:12Him and Duran.
04:13I think at this point, I think two is probably the best you could hope for.
04:16I got a question.
04:19Are pizza parties played out?
04:22I don't think so.
04:23Everybody loves pizza.
04:24And parties.
04:25And parties.
04:27Not everybody loves, you know, the mingling part.
04:29But you can get your pizza and go sit in a corner and eat pizza, right?
04:32Right.
04:33Is that the goal of the pizza party?
04:35Isolation?
04:35Should we do hot dog wiener parties more often?
04:38Not the way you said it.
04:40You're okay with that?
04:41I love it.
04:41On the U.S. day of America, we always do hot dog wieners.
04:46True.
04:47And so I wonder if we should do more hot dog wiener parties and less pizza parties.
04:53Wieners, baby.
04:54This is America, baby.
04:55What are we doing?
04:55Peyton says yes.
04:56All right.
04:57There you go.
04:58All right.
04:58We'll let the fan text decide.
04:59Hot dog wiener party or pizza party.
05:01You text in.
05:02Okay.
05:03We will look into that based on the results.
05:06He might convince the bosses at the next event we do one or the other.
05:11Okay.
05:11I kind of want to ask Skip Schumacher about this other thing tomorrow.
05:15Not necessarily that, but if they win today, maybe he'll be in a good mood.
05:19But there was quite a few Japanese fans at the game yesterday, which makes sense because
05:25you just saw their tie with the Netherlands at Dallas Stadium the day before.
05:30You know what?
05:31Screw that.
05:31I'm going to call it AT&T Stadium.
05:33It's Dallas Stadium.
05:34Do the right thing.
05:34The day before.
05:37That is a really good movie from Tom Hanks.
05:42Tom Hanks is not in Do the Right Thing.
05:44That thing you do.
05:45My bad.
05:46Those are remarkably different movies.
05:49It's kind of all the same words, though.
05:50Okay.
05:50But they're remarkably different movies.
05:55So that led to a cool atmosphere, of course.
05:59But at the end of the day, did you win the game or not?
06:01And, of course, the Rangers did not.
06:03They lose to the Twins 4-2.
06:05They're now 35-37.
06:07And it's the mediocrity in their record at home is irritating.
06:14Their inability to even be 500, let alone take advantage of sub-500 teams is frustrating.
06:22And I know part of the reason is they're not a really good team.
06:26They're not even really an average team, although they've shown flashes of being average.
06:31But you would think you would get beat up by the good teams and take advantage of the bad teams.
06:35They actually have a winning record against good teams.
06:38And then against bad teams, they're terrible.
06:40They're consistently good against good teams.
06:42What the hell is going on?
06:44I don't know, man.
06:45It doesn't make any sense to me at all.
06:48And they don't...
06:49Like, there's no real trends with them either.
06:52You can...
06:53Every time I think they're going to be on a roll, they tank.
06:56And then when I think they're done for, they're like, hey, check this out.
06:59Like, even...
07:00Like, we expected the pitching to be good.
07:02Pitching's been good.
07:04You know, good.
07:05But not as good as perhaps we've hoped.
07:08No.
07:08We thought it would be exceptional.
07:09Um, the bullpen has been the best thing.
07:13Yep.
07:13And then the batting lineup, it just...
07:18I don't know, man.
07:18It's shown flashes, but...
07:20It's so...
07:21It's so gross.
07:22Yeah.
07:22It is just so gross.
07:24Well, I don't know if this will end up helping in the long run or not.
07:28But Josh Smith has been activated from the injured list.
07:32So, be on the lookout for more John Smith...
07:36Josh Smith.
07:37Not John Smith.
07:38But in the meantime, Corey Seager goes on the concussion list.
07:45And so, they did backdate it to the 12th.
07:50So, theoretically, I think either on Friday or after Friday for Saturday that he is eligible to return.
07:59But I guess this just continues a pattern of he already missed, what was it, 17 games?
08:04And he's only back for a handful of games.
08:06And, look, I realize the concussion, it's a different thing.
08:09It's a different animal.
08:10But you get to the point where...
08:12This was the argument that I had back in the day with Chris Arnold about, like, I don't care if
08:16it's a litany of different things.
08:18If you have to keep missing time, it's because you're injury prone.
08:22And as soon as Corey Seager comes back, then he gets a concussion.
08:24You're like, alright, well, I hope you heal up.
08:27But when you're back, then what?
08:28He's not the fastest healer.
08:30Right.
08:31Now, obviously, with concussion, that's a different animal.
08:34Yeah.
08:34As you said.
08:35But, no, you gotta...
08:36I mean, this is...
08:37His history shows injury proneness.
08:40Yeah.
08:40Josh Young has had that history, right?
08:42Because we've started seasons with calves and spring trainings and stuff like that.
08:47But here Josh Young is, and that's why whenever you do have these moments of awesome, you just kind of
08:52ride it and hope that it's going to continue as long as it possibly can.
08:55And with Seager, I just don't know how much longer that open window is of where you'll see the consistency
09:01of him being the months-long at-bats he needs to get back into that groove because of what this
09:09history typically shows us.
09:11Now, I'm going to present this to you in a factual...
09:14Are you excited about Josh Smith?
09:16Yeah.
09:16That news...
09:17I am excited just because you hope for good things for him, but also, it is, like, a very scary
09:24situation that he had to come back from.
09:26And it just kind of happened seemingly out of nowhere.
09:30Yeah, for sure.
09:30All right.
09:31I'm going to present the facts to you, and hopefully we can all be adults about it.
09:36All right?
09:36The MLB has put out a statement to teams across the league that, quote, writing on the cap violates our
09:47rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations.
09:52This is in response to the players who have been writing specifically Bible verses on their cap for teams' Pride
10:03nights.
10:03All right?
10:04And so, again, I know this is a heated issue.
10:06I am just presenting the facts to you that multiple MLB players have etched Bible verses onto their hats for
10:14Pride nights for their specific team.
10:16And the MLB has put out a statement to all of these teams, not specific to this, and that's why
10:21they said, consistent with our normal practice, you are not allowed to write on your hat and have it out
10:27there.
10:27And I think that's a smart way to go about it, because if you were like, you cannot put a
10:32Bible verse on your hat and then had no issue with anybody who wrote anything else on their hat, that
10:37would be problematic.
10:37So, MLB, blanket statement that is clearly directed at this, but a blanket statement of—
10:44So, I can't write my mom's name on the hat if she had cancer?
10:47You would have to go to MLB and ask for a special allowance of that, and if you didn't, theoretically,
10:54they would fine them.
10:55I can't draw a picture of my dog if he dies on my hat.
10:59Not without that allowance.
11:01Remember when Johnny Unitas died and Peyton Manning wore the tribute shoes, and I know it's a different sport, but
11:07the NFL's fined because you didn't get that cleared.
11:10You can't just do what you want.
11:11It's uniform for a reason.
11:13Do you think that the Players Association will try to argue this or involve it in some way?
11:22I do not, because there has not been a specific punishment handed down.
11:28Now, if suspensions or fines came along—
11:31They haven't fined anybody yet, but they're letting everybody know, hey guys, this is our rules.
11:37To go back to Shadi, if I give you a suggestion, if I have to give you the suggestion a
11:41second time, you probably should have listened the first time.
11:43And that feels like what this is.
11:45If there's suspensions or fines, I would be very curious to see how the Players Association reacted.
11:49I would be very curious to see how the Players Association reacted.
11:50I'd like to say that.
