Nick Eatman tells Shan & RJ which Cowboys depth players he's excited to watch against the Seahawks this weekend.
Transcript
00:00Nick, we've got an actual preseason game coming up on Saturday night with Seattle.
00:06Brian Schottenheimer had already said most of the starters are not going to play this preseason.
00:10I know he had said initially he was still a little undecided on Caleb Downs.
00:15What level of participation do you think we're getting Saturday?
00:18What of substance do you think we're going to actually get a look at
00:21when we're seeing Seahawks-Cowboys this weekend?
00:24Yeah, I think Shottie did mention that Caleb and some of those rookies
00:29were in that category of guys that probably do need to play.
00:33So I would think one to two series at best for Downs and some of the other rookies
00:42and maybe some starters that need a little bit more playing time.
00:48I'm trying to think like you want to say like it is a Raku or somebody would be out there,
00:54but then what you don't know is the smallest little thing that's keeping them out of
00:59maybe a practice here or obviously the game.
01:03It could be one thing he's probably fighting through, but it's not worth it for the game.
01:08So I would think guys like that would go out and play as long as there's nothing
01:12that's kind of holding them back.
01:15Nick, is there somebody down roster that you're most intrigued to see?
01:21Well, I mean, the obvious one was the MVP of the scrimmage practice, Justin Barron.
01:31I mean, everybody wants to see what a guy like that's going to do.
01:36I've been saying these safeties.
01:40If you're talking down the roster a little bit,
01:42I'm very curious to how the safety position is going to shake out.
01:46You know, Julius Wood, Elijah Clark, Marquise Bell, you know,
01:51they're all kind of fighting for those backup spots there,
01:54and that's going to be very interesting.
01:56So that's one thing I loved about this.
01:59We have like five opportunities, two scrimmages and three games,
02:03and we watch these practices and we think, this guy's good.
02:07This is the depth chart, you know, and then all it takes is one game,
02:11one scrimmage or one, you know, three picks by a Justin Barron,
02:15and now you're like, okay, well, he's in the mix, you know,
02:17and so it's just kind of fun.
02:18That's why, you know, we like watching these type of things
02:21because they hold so much more weight.
02:24You were loving Julius Wood one day out there in Oxnard, right?
02:27Yeah, I mean, definitely like he just brings so much energy.
02:34He's ready.
02:34I think he's ready to hit.
02:35And Elijah Clark's kind of the same way.
02:37He might have surpassed that for me.
02:40I mean, when he went down, it looked like he was not going to –
02:43he looked like he was going to have a very significant injury,
02:45but he got up and got back in the mix,
02:47and he's kind of borderline on, you know, getting punched, you know,
02:51by an offensive player.
02:52He just kind of like – he's always right there.
02:55He's kind of pushing the envelope a little bit.
