00:06Good morning, Metroplex. Bring it on home.
00:10This is the Monday edition live of Sean and RJ.
00:13Choppy's out this week on vacation, but we still got Cowboys insider Bobby Roberto Belt for the union that we've
00:22been waiting on for years.
00:23Maybe a little bit too late, but it is happening with the breaking news last night.
00:28Of course, we start off with it on your home of America's team.
00:31Von Miller, Bobby, is finally a Dallas Cowboy.
00:36Yeah, and it was one of those things that felt equally like it was going to happen, and it was
00:44just Biden time.
00:46And then it also felt like one of those things that was never going to happen.
00:50The way Odell Beckham or other guys have been like, Earl Thomas, Jamal Adams.
00:56Some flirtation. This always happens with the Rangers and the Mavericks.
00:59The Rangers flirted forever with Lance Berkman, and then he ends up here just before his career is over.
01:05Or Roy Oswalt. And then it's like, okay, Oswalt's here just before Darren Williams with the Mavericks.
01:10Who's the other basketball player we always thought? Goran Drogic.
01:14Yeah, it's one of those ones where you just...
01:16Because it was starting to feel a little bit too desperate on Von's end that I didn't think it was
01:20inevitable.
01:21It was like, all right, Von is thirstier for this.
01:23He must have known it was on the table, and he was just trying to like...
01:27Dodge training camp?
01:28Dodge training camp, or just lean on them a little bit.
01:32There's a fan response.
01:33I'm going to publicly lean on you guys to get this done.
01:36Either way, I don't think there's much to hate about the idea of him being here.
01:42I'm trying not to be too overly cowboy excited.
01:46This is a perfect Cowboys signing.
01:47It's a big name.
01:50It's a local guy.
01:52It's the splash of America's team.
01:55But I am excited about it.
01:58I'm not going crazy about it, but I think it's a nice signing.
02:01Don't let...
02:03You or anybody else today, you or Cowboys fans,
02:05don't let anybody try to talk you out of excitement.
02:09It's a Hall of Fame player who's getting a reunion with the hometown team,
02:14who is one of the most notable high school or college football players
02:18to come out of this state ever.
02:21There's a romanticism about it, and he is a legit star.
02:27He's not necessarily a great player anymore.
02:29He's a good player, and he's not in his prime anymore.
02:32But there's no reason to not be excited about it.
02:35I remember when Dan Quinn got hired,
02:37there were people who were complaining about it.
02:39And it's a different kind of context, obviously.
02:41But when Dan Quinn got hired, I remember telling people,
02:43I was like, if you're upset with this, you just want to be miserable,
02:47which is okay.
02:48You just own up to wanting to be miserable.
02:50Similarly, if you're telling people, calm down, it's just Vaughn Miller.
02:54Let people be happy and excited that Vaughn Miller's here.
02:58And if you're complaining about it, you're probably just miserable.
03:00Yeah, I went and did my five-minute YouTube study.
03:03That is undefeated.
03:05Of course, the last draft class has not played yet.
03:08So we'll see how the five minutes actually works.
03:12But I was pleasantly surprised.
03:15Yeah, I know that he had nine sacks last year, but I wanted to see it.
03:19And he's still got speed, and he's still got quickness.
03:24And unfortunately, many of the highlights that I watched that were strung together
03:30was against our right tackle.
03:33So there was some damage being done against Terrence Steele,
03:36but he was still causing some havoc.
03:39He was still causing disruption.
03:40And this is also an indictment of the current group that they have.
03:45You talked about all those past things, and that's all nice.
03:47And write the Hallmark card.
03:50And yeah, you know, the reunion and blah, blah, blah.
03:52The Soto High.
03:53What can he do for you now?
03:55And I believe that Von Miller is, and it's an indictment,
04:00the best pass rusher on your football team right now.
04:04Probably, yeah.
04:05If you're just talking about third down, it's partially an indictment.
04:11It's also not just like we're talking about somebody who doesn't know how to do it.
04:17Like, it is still somebody who is a pro at it
04:19and understands how to get to the quarterback and has done it for years.
04:23Yeah, but he's become a mercenary.
04:26Sure.
04:27We didn't see a lot of other teams lined up.
04:29He wasn't on a roster as of yesterday, and he is 37 years old.
04:33I mean, that is an indictment.
04:35Yeah, but just like how Jadavion Clowney,
04:37there wasn't like a big line for him last year.
04:38He ended up being a good player, and he was your best pass rusher probably.
04:42And Chop and I were fans of Clowney, and I was waiting for I told you so's
04:46when Clowney was doing work for the Texans this year to be like,
04:49oh, I couldn't play for this team, couldn't play for Christian Parker.
04:52For what the Cowboys need, in my opinion,
04:55if you tell me I could go ahead and do the swap, I am doing the swap for Vaughn.
04:58Well, if you're telling me I can do Gary and Vaughn,
05:01like as a replacement for what I got from Clowney,
05:04then it's like, okay, I'll do that, like every day of the week.
05:06And this is generally, I think, the initial reaction you were seeing yesterday is...
05:12I was all excitement on Twitter.
05:13I didn't see any shots except outside of the Metroplex.
05:16Excitement, but even outside the Metroplex, like Mike Clay from The Athletic,
05:20who does some of those different lists, the tiers lists and things like that.
05:24Mike Clay had said, like, if they get cornerback figured out,
05:27there's enough pieces here now that you're starting to think Dallas might be okay on defense.
05:32And it's probably a little bit of overexcitement and analysis from the first preseason game,
05:37even for people nationally.
05:38But it's this weird spot to be in right now where you feel like people outside the Metroplex
05:45and national analysts, you almost feel like they're pumping them up too much.
05:49Like, almost like, y'all don't know how bad it was here last year, I don't think.
05:52Like, you missed it.
05:53But it's just nice to see a team right now that's not afraid to,
06:00whether it be add somebody like Miller over Ego or anything else,
06:04or see a team that's willing to turn things over as much to the coaching staff as they have.
06:10It may not work out, but it at least feels like it's being done the way you're supposed to do
06:14it,
06:14and we'll see if they're able to achieve that.
06:17Was this the move?
06:19Was this the Brian Broadus and Jerry Jones move?
06:23I don't think this is what Jerry was talking about when he first said,
06:28hey, a significant deal that I talked about with somebody.
06:31I think this is the deal that probably guys like...
06:34Because I would have to not trust Jerry anymore moving forward.
06:35No, no, no.
06:36I think that he was saying, like...
06:37Because of an overhype.
06:38So here's how I would look at that Jerry thing in retrospect.
06:42And then how I think we largely looked at it initially,
06:45which is they were talking about making additions,
06:50and in the process of having those discussions,
06:53that when it came to him, he goes,
06:55look, as an example, I had a conversation with somebody the other day
06:58that was about a significant player and about a significant deal.
07:02He wasn't saying that was the only one.
07:03An owner, too.
07:04Yeah.
07:04And Vaughn would not have been attached to an owner.
07:07No.
07:07Unless he was talking to the Raising Cane's owner.
07:09And he was like, what have you seen from him?
07:12But when they have those discussions, I think he was using that as,
07:16look, here's an example of what's always bubbling and what's always on the table
07:21and things like that.
07:22And I think it was drawing a parallel to other guys they were talking about.
07:26I think when Steven has talked about adding somebody in recent weeks,
07:28like that audio from the blue-white scrimmage we played last Monday,
07:31he's talking about Vaughn Miller.
07:33Like, that's who he's talking about.
07:35And so I think whenever they've said, we're looking at adding somebody,
07:38we're talking about adding somebody, I think that has been the reference.
07:42And Vaughn's made it super pained.
07:45Either Vaughn was the most desperate, thirsty loser out there,
07:50or they were talking to him, and he knew that it was on the table.
07:53They were talking to him.
07:55That much we were told, I was told, in Oxnard.
07:59But you hear a lot of different things, right?
08:01And you have players try to put that out there to hype it up a little bit.
08:04But they were talking to him.
08:05I don't know why it dragged out.
08:07I'm interested to see what the money is going to be.
08:09Hopefully it is next to nothing.
08:11Do you have any feel on that?
08:12No, I think it is.
08:13One-year deal, Archer says.
08:14Yeah, I would assume this is something that's under,
08:17I would guess, I'd be surprised if it's under 10.
08:19I would think it's probably something closer to what he played for last year.
08:21So like 6 to 8 is what I would guess.
08:24But it's something where, this is also exciting, I would imagine,
08:28for the guys you have in your pass rush room.
08:31Oh, yeah.
08:32Like Ezra Raku and even Rashawn Gary.
08:35I think Quinn and Williams may have written on social media,
08:37I get to learn from the GOAT now.
08:39People, he is, I saw this effect when, right before COVID,
08:44when there was, we were up at Sports Academy
08:46and I was there for Des Bryant going through workouts
08:48when he was trying to get back.
08:49Wow.
08:50And there were these like notable names coming up in the draft
08:54that were in the weight room above the practice field down there.
08:58And I looked up at one point and there were all these like soon-to-be NFL stars
09:02and NFL players and they were standing up against the glass
09:05and they were filming and they were asking if they were allowed
09:08to go downstairs and talk to Des.
09:09And it's like, he's a, guys like that, like for the guys who play,
09:14whenever they see somebody like that,
09:15they, yeah, they, it is like, that's my hero.
09:18Like I want to get around them.
09:19And so, you don't want to be too starstruck or be too fanboyish,
09:23something that's been thrown around before that term.
09:26But I think that it's good for a body type and a play style
09:31like Ezra Raku and Lawrence specifically to get around him
09:34and learn how he does it.
09:35I did not realize how, I didn't hear as much about Vaughn
09:39as a teammate over the years.
09:41It was just the incredible achievements and the crazy athleticism
09:45and the dominance up front and the Denver Bronco run.
09:49But hearing him talk about it, and we are, thanks to all the Tolos,
09:53he, apparently Vaughn is not, you know,
09:56he's not playing along with the usual Dallas Cowboys public relations policy.
10:00He's like, I'm going to do an interview tonight.
10:01I'm not waiting for any type of press conference to sit down.
10:05And I don't imagine this is going to call for a press conference
10:07or when he actually shows up to Oxnard, but he jumped on the nightcap.
10:11And I was not aware of the teammate and how serious he took himself to be with that.
10:18And he's like, I know I'm the best teammate that there's ever been
10:20in the National Football League.
10:21So everyone falls in love, too, with the mentorship
10:24and everything trickling down to, you know, Sam Williams,
10:28if he's still around, or Leofau, or Ezra Raku soaking up the knowledge.
10:32Which we'll be honest about this, too.
10:36Because, just to be consistent, we've said it about others.
10:39He very well could be.
10:41We also have said before, like, we've heard Micah say,
10:43I know I'm the greatest teammate of all time.
10:45I'm going to be a lead.
10:46People hype that up a little bit.
10:48I do think that Vaughn is somebody who's known as being similar to D-Ware,
10:52like, the idea of, like, I'm going to teach you.
10:54If I'm here, I'm going to teach you.
10:56He's not one of these gatekeepers like Favre was with Aaron Rodgers.
10:59He's going to be a guy who he wants to pass things down.
11:02And this is ultimately...
11:04And he got some of that from D-Ware, who he immediately, like, FaceTimed last time.
11:09Vaughn has been...
11:10He's got stuff in the queue.
11:12He's loaded it up.
11:13He's loaded it up to celebrate.
11:15I just...
11:15He is...
11:16It's a good day in terms of...
11:18Obviously, like, it's cool for a lot of people that the hometown guy comes home.
11:23And he's still...
11:23He's somebody who came back every offseason.
11:25He would do his football camps down in DeSoto every year.
11:28He was still here in the summer, hanging out.
11:31So it's not like he's been completely removed from here.
11:33But just on a football standpoint, it's a good day for Cowboys fans.
11:36Because they got better by adding.
