00:00What's up friends and welcome to Quick Pitch presented by Blue Emu. I'm Ron Burgundy. No,
00:06I'm Lauren Gardner and this is Red, not Burgundy. It was a walk-off Friday for the 2019 World Series
00:12teams as the Nationals bump. Hewitani announced on Friday that he will participate in this year's
00:16Home Run Derby. The 26-year-old won the Nippon Professional Baseball Home Run Derby in 2016
00:22and will be the first Japanese-born player to participate in the MLB version. He'll also be
00:28the first player to do so after making at least one start on the mound. Now let's head to Angel
00:33Stadium where Shohei was showing off his bat yet again. Well, that was dramatic and in traditional
00:39baseball wisdom says that it's risky to bring your closer into a tie game on the road. But
00:44Mets skipper Luis Rojas took that chance on Friday with Edwin Diaz who went on to take the loss. Now
00:50while Diaz has won just one save chance this year, he's pitched to an ERA of over six in non
00:56-save
00:59situations. Well, the Yankees. So the Pirates lost 10 in a row heading into Friday night's game and
01:04things were looking pretty good early on for the Buccos. Pittsburgh got right to work putting up
01:08five runs in the first inning capped off by a two-run shot from Gregory Flanco. A Brian Reynolds
01:14homer in the third made it six nothing. Still looking good. And then in the sixth after a bases loaded
01:19walk, a hit batter, and a key Brian Hayes bases loaded clearing double, it was 11-1 Pirates. But
01:26then things got really interesting. Those Pirates who were one base hit away from blowing a 10-run lead.
01:34Now after putting up 11 in the first six innings, Pittsburgh was held hitless in the final three
01:39frames while giving up nine runs. Still counts though. Now to the Bronx for the Yankees hosting the A's.
01:45Well, the A's take the series opener in the Bronx thanks to the unlikely heroics of Tony Kemp.
01:50The six-year veteran entered this season with just one career home run against left-handers,
01:55but he's already taken two southpaws deep this month. As for Kemp's team, they've won seven straight
02:00to improve the record to a season-best 17 games over .500. Now to KC for the Red Sox and
02:06the Royals.
02:07Pete, trivia question. We want to know, who holds the Houston Astros record for the most home runs in a
02:13single month? Go ahead. Think about it. We'll tell you after the break. But first,
02:17your towering touch-em-alls presented by Midas. Back well before the break, we ask you who holds
02:21the Astros record for the most homers in a calendar month? That would be Jeff Bagwell,
02:26who blasted 13 home runs in June of 1994, 27 years later. And Jose Altuve already has nine this month.
02:35So would he make another trip around the bases against the White Sox?
02:38On Thursday, President Joe Biden signed legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday,
02:44making it the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Day was established
02:48in 1983. Throughout this weekend, MLB Network will celebrate Juneteenth with stories from people
02:54around the baseball world. First, here's a piece from the Players Alliance, a group formed 11 months
03:00ago by a collection of African-American baseball players about the meaning of Juneteenth as voiced
03:06by Harold Reynolds. Yeah, so check this out. Here's the list of players with multiple six RBI games
03:12in Marlin's history. Adam Duvall. Actually, that's it. It's just Adam Duvall with two swings of the bat.
03:19The first year, Marlin drove in six runs against the Cubs. It included his fifth career Grand Slam.
03:26Now, in those past five seasons, only three players have cleared the bases more times than Duvall.
03:31Up next, the Brew Crew in the Rocks. Best winning streak to five games as C.J. Krohn delivers his
03:37first walk-off hit since 2016. Though Colorado owns the worst road record in the majors, they've
03:43been far better at home. In fact, their seven walk-off wins this season are the most of any team.
03:49Now to Atlanta for the Cards and the Braves. Rick Mullen's t-shirt night at Camden Yards and the
03:54dude roast of the occasion by going three for four with two home runs. The Orioles outfielder leads the
03:59American League in hits, and he's batting .452 in two strike counts since the start of June.
04:06Up next, the Twins and the Rangers. Friend performance from the Twins' offense has been
04:10buzzing in June. Led by Nelson Cruz, who is hitting .400 this month, these four Minnesota
04:15sluggers have combined for 13 homers and 36 RBI as they power the Twins to the extra innings victory.
04:22Time now for your Capital One Premier Plays. Well, that does it for this edition of QP. For our
04:28wonderful crew here at MLB Network. I'm Lauren Gardner saying stay classy, Sandy. I mean, America.
