Plans have been submitted to repair the Grade I‑listed St John’s Church on New Briggate, Leeds’ oldest city‑centre building, preserving its historic landmark status.

The proposed work includes repairing stonework, restoring clock faces, parapets and pinnacles, and installing scaffolding, pending listed‑building consent.

Simon Sherriff Architects say the repairs will preserve the church’s importance and maintain soundness, with tower work expected to last up to thirty years.

Leeds City Council is reviewing the listed‑building consent application, with consultation open until the twenty-fifth of June, while the Churches Conservation Trust continues to safeguard the historic building.
