Proposals submitted to Leeds City Council would repurpose a listed former church and gurdwara, following a previous refusal. Plans omit features that previously raised concerns.
Transcript
00:01Plans have been submitted to convert a historic former church and Sikh temple on Chapeltown Road
00:07in Leeds into a gym and library if the council gives consent. The Grade 2 listed Union and
00:13Congregation Chapel dates from the 19th century and stood vacant after a larger gudwara opened
00:19opposite in the late 1990s. A previous proposal to convert the building into a dance studio was
00:25rejected by Leeds City Council. The revised application removes external air conditioning
00:30units and a proposed mezzanine floor to address council concerns. Applicants say the scheme would
00:37protect the building and not harm the Chapeltown Conservation Area. A decision will be made in due course.
