00:00Morley Town Hall has entered the next phase of a major £5m refurbishment aimed at preserving
00:06its historic character while enhancing community use. The Grade 1 listed building, designed in

00:18as a civic and cultural centre. Leeds City Council has appointed a specialist contractor
00:23in listed buildings to lead the work. The refurbishment includes internal improvements
00:28such as an electrical system replacement and damp proofing, along with new public facilities
00:34including a cafe and bar, and upgraded theatrical spaces in the Alexandra Hall. The Town Hall
00:40continues to host local community groups and events, maintaining its role as a cultural hub.
00:45Councillor Jonathan Pryor said the project balances heritage protection with modernisation,
00:49ensuring the building serves Morley for years to come. Dan Merrick from the Morley Town Deal
00:54Heritage Group highlighted the potential for the venue to strengthen the town's cultural profile.
01:00Preparatory work included relocating the local landmark statue, called the Weaver, to Scratchard Park.
01:08The Morley Town Hall project forms part of broader South Leeds regeneration efforts,
01:14reinforcing the city's historical and cultural landscape, while providing sustainable,
01:19high quality community spaces for future generations.
