00:00Work has begun on restoring the roof of the Discovery Museum in Newcastle, following a grant for around £3 million.
00:08The Grade 2 listed Blandford House, home to the museum and Tyne and Weir archives, will remain open throughout the
00:15work, although short closures may be necessary.
00:18Contractors are on site, erecting protective hoardings and parking in Blandford Square will be affected.
00:25Visitors are advised to use Granger Town multi-storey car park.
00:29The project is funded by the DCMS Museum, Estate and Development Fund, with Newcastle City Council contributing.
00:37Completion is expected by Spring 2027 and they're hoping to preserve the building for future generations.
