00:00He is the latest.
00:01He is the latest to give his thoughts on what he is seeing from his quarterback, C.J. Straub.
00:07Really good spring so far.
00:09I would say the first thing starts with him coming back in pretty good shape.
00:12He looks good.
00:14He thinned out a little bit.
00:15He looks good.
00:16He's always been throwing the ball really well.
00:18His footwork's been really good, all the mechanical stuff.
00:20But then I would just say his grasp of everything, he's operating a lot faster.
00:24You can see it at the line and what he's doing, the way he's able to move guys around.
00:29You can just feel way more comfortable.
00:32I feel like he's owning everything we're doing.
00:35Listen, this is, I don't know how many now this is.
00:38Now, some people are just like, all right, man, hey, he's looking real good.
00:43Hey, he's about to see the old C.J. or whatever.
00:47This isn't the first time we've heard more in-depth things that we're seeing.
00:51I don't know where you stand, 713-5724-610 YouTube and Twitch.
00:59But, Clinton Tyler, I have drank the C.J. Kool-Aid.
01:04Have you?
01:05Yeah, I've drank it.
01:06I think C.J., first off, shout out to my old guy, rest in peace, Terrence Paylor,
01:15who would always let you know that contract year is undefeated, Jack.
01:20It brings something out of folks that you just didn't know.
01:23You just didn't know.
01:24Well, this is basically a, hey, man, you want to get your money type of year for C.J. Stroud.
01:31And, first off, we know what he's capable of.
01:34We've seen it.
01:35And I do think year two in an offense, and what we're hearing about, it doesn't seem like it's just,
01:42hey, bring your ass in here, and you do what we want you to do.
01:48All right?
01:49This seems like, hey, let's try to work and see what we – let's try to put something together with
01:56this thing.
01:56And he does seem to be motivated, and hell, he should be, and it doesn't roll with it.
02:00He should be motivated from not just how the season ended, but, bro,
02:05this was a dude that some people thought was going to be the league MVP to.
02:10This was a dude that was thought to be a top-10 quarterback in the league,
02:14and now people think he's as good as Bryce again, right?
02:19Like, he's dropped off, and people are just talking about if they can just be –
02:23if he can just be serviceable, this team will win.
02:27I do believe he is going to be better, and he is primed and ready to be the dude
02:33that we thought he could be.
02:35The only thing for me, Clint, is are they going to hold him back?
02:39Yeah.
02:40That is my thing.
02:41And we've talked about it, and I've been thinking about this more and more, Clint,
02:44and I don't even know if I meant to go here.
02:47Like, for this offense to be at its best, Clint, and you look at the parts,
02:54and this offense ain't going to be a great offense if it is led to me
02:59by David Montgomery in the running game.
03:02Not with the parts that they – like, if it is – man, I told Tyler this earlier.
03:09Lamar and Derrick Henry can't get to an AFC title game.
03:14Those two.
03:15Their team's led by a run game.
03:18The Bills couldn't get there.
03:20They couldn't get there last year.
03:22They're led by – they can't get to a Super Bowl.
03:24They've been running the football as well as anybody the last couple of years.
03:28The Eagles had to have one of the greatest running back seasons we've ever seen,
03:32and then a quarterback who runs it, too, to get where they needed to get to.
03:35I don't think –
03:36And one of the best offensive lines in the game.
03:37Yes.
03:38All those teams that I just talked about, good offensive lines.
03:41Yeah.
03:42They're the Lions.
03:43They haven't been to a Super Bowl.
03:44They've had a run game and everything.
03:46And to think, like, all right, this offense at its best is led by David Montgomery.
03:52No.
03:52The people who use hands you want this ball to get in more than anybody is probably
03:57Nico Collins.
03:58And the person that best is equipped to get him the ball is C.J. Stroud.
04:02It feels like at some point for this offense to be at its best, it's going to be on the
04:07back of C.J. Stroud and not David Montgomery.
04:09I don't know how long it's going to take for them to get there.
04:12I think he is ready to do that, but for them to be at their best, it's got to be
04:16through
04:16Nico, C.J., and Schultz.
04:19It's got to be through that as opposed to this offensive line and Montgomery and Woody
04:23Mark.
04:23Well, absolutely, when it comes to big moments in the season, which every moment in the
04:30playoffs is going to be a big moment in the playoffs.
04:32I'll say this.
04:33I've said it a million times.
04:34I think it's context that's often left out, is the defense has scored 32 points and given
04:41up 32 points in the three playoff wins that the Texans have.
04:45When that's not the case, when the defense isn't damn near outscoring themselves, right,
04:53C.J. Stroud is going to have to be big in those moments.
04:56In those games, along with throughout the regular season, there's going to be four or five games
05:01like Kansas City a couple years ago.
05:03Was that last year or a couple years ago?
05:04Last year.
05:05Kansas City.
05:05You know, there's going to be a couple of games throughout the year, two or three.
05:09They're going to minimize them.
05:09They're going to make it as few and far between as possible with this great defense, but there's
05:14going to be a few games where he's got to be big, and the playoffs is where throughout
05:18those games, the deeper you get, the bigger it is, the more important it is that he's going
05:22to at least have to have big boy moments, and it's not just C.J.
05:27Like you said, it's Nico and Dalton Schultz.
05:29They've got to be healthy.
05:30Yeah, I agree.
05:32I've said it before.
05:33This team's only going to go as far as C.J.
05:35Stroud takes them.
05:36It don't matter how good the defense is.
05:38I don't think your run game is going to be Derrick Henry-type good, Saquon Barkley-type
05:44good.
05:45I just don't think that's what we're looking at here, and so, yeah, I still believe that
05:50you're only going to go as far as C.J.
05:51Stroud is going to take you.
05:52The other piece of that is, you know, I think the leadership piece of C.J.
05:58Stroud, which I've been so critical of, is going to be impacted by how C.J.
06:03Stroud embraces what's going on in Houston, and so, and embraces, you know, the coming
06:10in better shape, ownership, the buy-in, whatever you want to call it, being a better communicator,
06:15that's going to directly impact his leadership qualities as well.
06:19And so, yeah, I agree with you, Ron.
06:21It's, I said it from jump, you're only going to go as far as C.J.
06:24takes you.
06:25Yeah, and to me, I think he is primed and ready, and maybe I'm just drinking that Kool-Aid.
06:31Grape.
06:33You think it's grape?
06:34I like it's grape.
06:34I like grape.
06:35I like a little tropical, I like tropical punch and a lemonade mix.
06:39But, and maybe I'm drinking it, I just, to me, the only thing that really could stop to
06:46me what potentially could be closer to the good C.J.
06:51we've seen is if they step in and try to pull the reins on them and hold Stroud back.
06:58Someone text in, you got to walk before you run, show, or in this case, you got to run
07:03before you throw.
07:06Again, I will just say this, and I've said it with C.J. Stroud.
07:13When I've seen C.J. Stroud, and I've seen David Montgomery, and then you include in this
07:19offensive line in front of him, like, between the two of them, the person that I've seen
07:25be great is Stroud, not David Montgomery.
07:30David Montgomery's good, solid, but David Montgomery has never been somebody you're
07:37like, this, we're putting it on the backs of him.
07:41Ride this to a Super Bowl.
07:42Let's ride this.
07:43There's only four or five of those in the whole league.
07:46And again, like, and I understand their defense doesn't, you know, allows them to not have
07:52to score maybe like other teams have.
07:55Like I said, man, they've got Lamar and Derrick Henry, and they have not, they, they've not
08:00been able to, they lost in the divisional round and didn't even make the playoffs last
08:05year.
08:06Yeah.
08:06I mean, go down the list.
08:08Lamar and Derrick Henry, Jalen Hurts and, and, and Saquon Barkley.
08:11You mentioned Detroit, David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs.
08:15With those offensive lines.
08:16Yeah.
08:17You, I mean, you go down the list.
08:18There's, there's a laundry list of, of not just good running backs, but good running backs
08:21and quarterbacks and the only one that's gotten there is, is, is, uh, in your mind, in your
08:27mind, the thought is like, man, I got Stroud who is shown to be, to play at a elite level.
08:36We've seen before.
08:37I've got Nico Collins, who is absolutely my best weapon.
08:41I've had my tight end who said two out of his three seasons here.
08:45He has had big time seasons.
08:47I got some young cats that maybe I'm feeling good about potential.
08:51I don't know where tank bill is, but we've got, and the thought is, no, we're going to
08:57ride David Montgomery in this, in this old line, and then hope that CJ cannot make mistakes
09:04and compliment that it should be the other way around.
09:08And to me, at some point it's going to be because CJ's first year, they tried to, they
09:13want it.
09:13They wanted it.
09:14They went, all right, man, we got, we got Damian Pierce coming back.
09:17We're going to run the football.
09:19And Bobby Slogan company said, you, second half of that Colts game in week two, let's
09:24swing this thing around.
09:25And they made this, they didn't just ditch the run game, but they made it a more of a
09:30pass first thing.
09:31And it was led by CJ.
09:33And I, and I think at some point that's what this thing is going to be.
09:36And I think he's ready for it.
09:38Again, I may be drinking the Kool-Aid.
09:39Maybe he comes out.
09:40Well, you are drinking the Kool-Aid.
09:41We'll see.
09:41Yeah.
09:42Maybe he comes out against Buffalo and throws four picks again or something.
09:46I don't know.
09:47Hmm.
09:48Well, that'd be a bad start.
09:49I don't think he does, but maybe he does.
09:52All right.
