00:00All right, some news and notes with the Astros
00:04as they head on the road to Anaheim,
00:08and they will open up this three-game series against the Angels.
00:12Some news and notes ahead of that.
00:16Well, you know it ain't a week unless the Astros put somebody on the I.L.,
00:20and they've put somebody on the I.L., and it's Nick Allen.
00:25Nick Allen, who is on the I.L. with a hamstring injury,
00:29so that should take forever.
00:31He is going down, and infielder, one of my personal favorites,
00:40O'Shea Wickham, he is being from AAA Sugar Land,
00:44and he will join the team tonight in Anaheim.
00:47So every time I think of Shea, where is that soccer bar we were at?
00:54You've taken me there a couple of times.
00:56We've gone there before.
00:57We've gone to Astros games.
00:58We did the show from there.
01:01The indoor place.
01:02That's where Tyler passed out in the crapper.
01:05Yeah, I don't know if that's it.
01:06Well, Shea just could not.
01:09What did he have, four errors or something like that,
01:11where he just couldn't pull himself together at third base?
01:14Nightmare at third continues for Shea.
01:17That's what Todd said.
01:19And we were at pitch 25.
01:21Pitch 25, that's it.
01:22That man, my man said, my man said, nightmare at third continues.
01:26I thought, well, that's definitely, that's it.
01:28That's damn Todd.
01:29Clint Stark compared it to his four interception game in the second half against the Giants.
01:33And I believe that's the last time he got into an NFL game.
01:36I thought that might be it for Shea.
01:38Well, this is not good.
01:39But Shea, Shea, Shea, I think it started.
01:42Where did Shea go, did he go, where did Shea go play?
01:45Shea played in the WBC for another country.
01:49He was able to take his talents.
01:51Yeah, it was Japan or something.
01:54Absolutely.
01:54It was one.
01:55It was Japan or China.
01:57I don't think he could have made Japan.
01:59Did China have a team?
01:59I don't think he could have made.
02:00Yeah, I was going to say.
02:01There you go.
02:01He couldn't have made Japan's team, I don't believe.
02:05Not show head and company over there.
02:06I don't think he's making that club.
02:08But he played in Korea, and I think that's where it really started for him.
02:10That's a good point.
02:11He probably had to go to a needy team.
02:13He's not making Japan.
02:15That's what the whites used to do.
02:16I'll just tell you that right there.
02:18But Korea, he could make Koreas.
02:20And he did, and I think that really kicked it off.
02:22And so I have not – they're in Anaheim, so the lineup is probably –
02:28the lineup may come out.
02:30You may hear it here from Area 45 tonight because hopefully maybe later
02:36in the 5 o'clock hour we'll see it.
02:38But West Coast, it comes out a lot later.
02:41Shea, what do you think?
02:42Shea's going to be in there in the 5, 6 hole?
02:45The 5 hole's been popular of late.
02:48Now, Altuve's back, so maybe that 5 hole is not in play.
02:51But usually what they do is if you get called up, you immediately start
02:57is generally what happens with the Astros.
02:59You get called up for a reason.
03:01They ain't bringing you up here to sit the pine now.
03:02I expect – no matter who it is.
03:05I expect – and by the way, I do want to – by the way, that's what I said.
03:08Nick Allen, he is on the I.L.
03:10Also, Jordan Alvarez, ho-hum again.
03:13He's been named the AL Player of the Week, and he hit 476 in six games,
03:19recorded six runs, one double, two homers, nine RBIs, five walks, over a 1,300 OPS.
03:26He's just the MVP right now.
03:29It doesn't matter what the Astros do.
03:32But, like, the last person who did this, and I did want to – I wanted to come in.
03:35Who was another one of our loyal listeners?
03:37It's Russ, and I believe – what was her name?
03:41She said she really loved the drive.
03:44Donna.
03:44Donna, yeah, that's it.
03:46Loves the drive, listens every day.
03:48And she said that I can't wait to hear the convo on Lamont Wade Jr.
03:54Monday, he damn near hit for the cycle.
03:56Don't doubt LW – he's LWJ now, guys.
04:00Ron owes him an apology.
04:02Love the drive.
04:03Watch them every day on YouTube.
04:04We appreciate it.
04:05I hope you're watching this right now.
04:06Is it Dina?
04:08Dina, Dina.
04:09Shout out to Dina.
04:10And we hope you're watching now, Dina.
04:12And, Dina, what I would like to say to that – and, yes, Lamont went crazy.
04:17What was that, Saturday?
04:18He went crazy, almost hit for the cycle, hit him a homer, and he had a nice one.
04:23I will not apologize for him, all right?
04:26I didn't say anything about Lamont and his play.
04:31What I did say is there ain't no way in the world that a guy who was hitting 250
04:37with seven home runs sitting in the AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox
04:42the entirety of the season should come in and immediately be in the five-hole spot.
04:47That was my issue.
04:48It wasn't my – hell, hell, I hope for Lamont.
04:50I hope Lamont Jr.
04:51We enjoyed Lamont Wade Jr.
04:54That was a no-brainer for me.
04:55We enjoyed Lamont Wade Sr.
04:56Strong name.
04:57Very strong name.
04:58But it wasn't about what he can or cannot do.
05:00And, by the way, I wouldn't hold my breath on Lamont Wade Jr.
05:03really coming in and going off.
05:05Good for him.
05:06Great game, all right?
05:07I didn't see you coming out of the woodworks, Dina, when he went 0-4-4 that first day.
05:15I didn't hear from you in his 0-1 from a pinch hit roll yesterday.
05:19I didn't hear from that, all right?
05:21Now, again, it ain't about Lamont.
05:23It is about the fact that the Astros got to be in a better spot than a guy who was
05:28playing
05:28triple-A all season for the Chicago White Sox never called up, moves right into the five
05:35spot behind Parade.
05:36That was it.
05:38That was it.
05:38I'm glad Dina brought this up for you, Ron.
05:41I'm glad for us, I guess.
05:43I think it was geared towards Ron.
05:45But put yourself in the shoes.
05:49And, look, I am being critical, but I'm just curious.
05:52Like, if you're out there driving around, put yourself – don't close your eyes because
05:56it's bad if you're driving.
05:57Please don't do that.
05:57But put yourself in a meeting room with Joe Espada, Dana Brown, Omar Lopez, you know,
06:05and whoever else sits in there.
06:06So good.
06:07Right?
06:08And you're sitting around and you go, all right, guys, we've had a lot of injuries.
06:11We've got to – we're at a spot where – y'all remember this Lamont Wade Jr.
06:16cat we liked in the offseason?
06:17Somebody had to say, who?
06:18Yeah.
06:19Wait.
06:19Oh, yeah.
06:20Yeah.
06:20No, well –
06:21Somebody looked across and said, well, where is he now?
06:24And then somebody said, well, he's in the White Sox triple-A.
06:28He's swinging it all right.
06:29He's hitting 250.
06:29Okay, well, what do you think?
06:31Well, you know, why don't we bring him in here and, you know, and I'm sure it's not
06:37just to play.
06:38I'm sure there was some kind of formula that says you're almost out of yo-yo and some of
06:44these other guys that are in your system right now.
06:46So I'm sure there was a method to the madness.
06:48I'm not going to question that.
06:50But everybody goes, all right, hey, Lamont Wade Jr.'s a guy.
06:53Bring him on in here.
06:53Let's give him a look.
06:55And then Joe looks across the table and goes, all right, boys, well, what do y'all think
06:58about since he's a left-handed bat, what do y'all think about hitting him in that five
07:01spot ahead of Cam Smith and ahead – at that point right there, how does somebody in that
07:09– around that table, in that meeting room go, well, hold on a second.
07:14I mean, he's been in a White Sox minor league system.
07:18Let's get him in here.
07:19And look, you can hit him ahead of Christian Vasquez.
07:22He's been in that – but Jake Myers and Taylor Trammell and Cam Smith and I don't
07:29know who else was up at that time, Bryce Matthews, if he's in there.
07:33I mean, any of those guys that we've kind of committed to and have been getting run
07:36for us and getting at bats, they probably ought to be above him.
07:40Just for principle.
07:41I'm not even worried about the other guys' confidence level or well-being.
07:47But just out of principle, like who sat in that meeting room?
07:51Where's Lamont from?
07:52Who sat in that meeting room and said, yeah, I think that left-handed bat that's been in
07:57the White Sox system, minor league system, I think that's who we need to bring in here
08:02and just put smack dab in the middle of our lineup.
08:04That was my thing, man.
08:07I just can't believe I saw a bat roll in there.
08:09But, Ron, like seriously, how do you get to that spot?
08:12It's almost laughable to think that you're sitting around the table with these guys.
08:15But then, the next day, you right the ship and go, nah, you know, that may have been
08:22a little aggressive.
08:22Let's move him down the lineup a couple spots and let his cam back up there where he's at.
08:26Like, who, where, and I know all my baseball traditionalists.
08:29Pitch a matchup or something.
08:30Yeah, yeah.
08:30Well, I'm sure it's, no, he's good enough to be in the lineup, just not in that six hole
08:34anymore.
08:35He needs to be in the seven hole.
08:36Five hole.
08:37He needs to be in the seven hole.
08:38And, we need to get that right, left, right, left, right combination at the bottom of the
08:42lineup instead of the top of the lineup.
08:44Like, who?
08:44Or the middle of the lineup.
08:46Yeah.
08:46We're talking about a guy out of the White Sox system.
08:51How, how does, how impactful does right, left, right, or just right versus left-handed hitter,
08:59how impactful does that have to be before you go, nah, we're going to go with some guys
09:04that we've been riding with this season.
09:06We're going to go with.
09:07We're going to go with some guys.
09:08We're going to go with the majors.
09:09We're going to go with Cam Smith, who had a base clearing triple last night and helped
09:13us win a game.
09:13And who's played in the majors for the last two years.
09:15Right.
09:16Like, that's the part that I'm just, it blows my mind how baseball people, and I'm talking
09:23about media members that are baseball heads as well as fans and just in general, it blows
09:28my mind how somebody can sit there and just go, now you cannot care because it's one of
09:3362, one of 162 and it's a lineup and who cares, but how do you look at that and go,
09:37yeah, my guys at the top of this organization are making that decision, and you're cool
09:41with it?
09:43Who?
09:44Bang.
09:44Oh, I thought you said Hank.
09:45I thought, well, what Hank do?
09:46Just like to me right now, I want to see how long they're going to go and see how many
09:52more starts they're going to give Mike Burrows.
09:57Again, the same group that you just talked about that all sit around, because you got,
10:01I, I, I, listen, I choose, I choose to believe Tyler that when they were sitting in that meeting
10:07room, somebody looked across the room and mouthed Lamont.
10:13Lamont?
10:14I choose to believe that.
10:16Now, not everybody had Lamont Wade.
10:18I believe Dana, I believe Dana's been campaigning for him for a couple months now.
10:26But I, but I, but again, I want to know that same group of people who made the Lamont
10:32Wade or the same group of people who brought in Mike Burrows or the same group of people
10:35who said Mike should be the number two starter right out.
10:37And of the same group of people, how many, how many more starts is he going to get?
10:41Seriously.
10:42He just ruined them for the Astros.
10:45I mean, that could have scored some runs, but he could have, he just ruined, I mean, you
10:48just, he just takes you out.
10:49Five innings, eight hits, four earned.
10:51There was an error in there that didn't help him.
10:53He gave up five when he was out there.
10:55Yeah.
10:55Four earned.
10:56Four earned.
10:56Three walks.
10:59Three K, or three Ks, two walks, and again, two homers.
11:03Like, how much longer is he going to pitch?
11:06As a starter.
11:07Like, like, he has got to be long relief right now.
11:10Or hell, he may need a couple of days off.
11:14Or how many days they give Brian Abreu where they, where they sent him down, but kept him
11:18up here while they sent him down.
11:20I think they, they, they might need to do that with Mike.
11:22Cause I mean, you just, I just, if you're serious about this, trying to make this move
11:27back and Hunter, again, at any point here, you could, you could, you could, you could get
11:34rolling here.
11:34He didn't want to rule out this week is what Joe Espada said last week, but Hunter, Mike,
11:39you definitely got to get up out of here.
11:41I just, right now, there's got to be a different option.
11:44I mean, Clint went through it earlier.
11:45I mean, this guy and I, I've been calling him Homer Mike for about six days.
11:50That's good.
11:51I like it.
11:52That's good.
11:53It is.
11:53It's unbelievable how often he gives up home runs.
11:57He leads the American league.
12:0013 starts.
12:01He's given up.
12:01He's given up two home runs in over half of them.
12:06Yeah.
12:06Not just one, man.
12:07I mean, it's four of the last five outings, two home runs, 17 of them.
12:11He's given them up.
12:12I think Tyler, I thought Tyler had a list of all of his key stats.
12:16He's got these time for the most losses in the AL.
12:21He gets innings.
12:23One could argue, maybe you should stop.
12:25He leads the AL.
12:26He's given up the most hits and homers, Tyler.
12:29Is that true?
12:30Yeah, yeah.
12:30So, singles, doubles, triples, home runs, all of it.
12:33All of them.
12:34Maybe he should get fewer innings.
12:37Ron wants everybody to get more innings except for.
12:40Oh, Lord, man.
12:41To go along with leading the American league in hits and home runs given up.
12:46Something will walk.
12:46Would shock you, but runs earned.
12:49Earned runs leads the league in that as well.
12:52We've got to stop.
12:53He's got to be putting up some good base on ball numbers too, doesn't he?
12:56And you ain't lying.
12:58With that combination, there is nobody he leaves longer in games than Mike.
13:04He's about to get out of it.
13:05He's about to bust out of this thing.
13:07I can feel it.
13:08He's got good stuff, boys.
13:09The amount of times Joe comes up and Mike starts, boy,
13:12just that home run he gave up there in the third.
13:14Still had a baseball left.
13:15That's Mike.
13:17All right.
13:18He's about to find it right now.
13:19He is.
13:20Coming up.
