00:00so we'll get you that audio here in a moment sobs but you but you get you have that same
00:04sense right
00:04that the fan base is yeah we'll just we'll be back to normal and i'm the fly in the ointment
00:10i'm the annoying guy at the party that's in general but also on this one i'm kind of raising
00:14my hand going but are we sure are how positive are we that this is just now seamless my hope
00:24is that david blough isn't full of it and we're doing this 13 targets a game thing that we're
00:30doing a feed him until he's too tired and then he takes a break and then they feed him again
00:35yeah
00:35and he's having a career year at age 31 because the team if they thought he was going to be
00:41the guy
00:41that he and his agent thought he was would not have gone through the negotiation they did last
00:45year i think that's a safe bet right yeah i mean it's one of those things that i have a
00:49track record
00:49with terry so i believe that he's going to be back to being terry mclaurin and i have a track
00:54record and i've seen enough of jayden daniels to believe that jayden is going to be a special
00:59quarterback so i think that that connection is going to be there assuming that it's just gonna
01:03you know start the year that way you certainly hope so there's no guarantees when you're putting
01:08in a whole new offense i'm more so worried about some of the secondary options behind them but
01:12you know he was injured a majority of last season terry mclaurin was banged up and different
01:18things happening obviously jayden as well but specifically with terry you hope that that's
01:21something because that was part of the reason that you don't love to sign a guy that's inching
01:26up on 30 or is already past that 30 year old plateau so you certainly hope that it's something
01:30that's been put in the past i'm hoping with him being a part of the offseason program being there
01:35with the guys you can see his leadership already being a massive part of this offseason for the team
01:40once again so you hope that it's just a blip in the radar what happened last season but
01:44there's also no guarantee because he is getting older and you know you don't know how many years
01:48he has left of thousand yard production in him all right so this is matt harman along with justin
01:53boone another smart fantasy guy from the yahoo fantasy forecast show talking about terry mclaurin's
01:58prognosis for this year i get the concern about him and why his adp might be a little lower than
02:03what we saw a couple years ago um you know it's his age 31 season he's coming off the lowest
02:09output
02:09of his career was just a bad year and recency bias that's what's in people's minds but it was
02:15really just a bad year across the board for the commanders right jayden daniels was hurt a bunch of
02:20the year mclaurin had the contract issue that he goes out he misses seven games it just was all around
02:27bad but everything's looking up in my mind now right he doesn't have a ton of target competition
02:33there i really like antonio williams i really like chica conkwell these guys are more like
02:38sleepers for redraft these aren't proven commodities we have debo samuel he's out of the picture now we
02:45have zackerts he's out of the picture now we have a new offense there that i think is going to
02:50be
02:50really exciting david blau talking about moving terry mclaurin around the formation i know a lot of
02:56new coaches come in and say that sort of thing and it doesn't happen but we've also seen this happen
03:00on a bunch of teams now we know the nfl is a copycat league i think there's no reason why
03:05they wouldn't do this makes complete sense to me and if you look back we're just one year removed
03:11from 87 catches over 1100 yards and four scores he was the wide receiver 14 in fantasy points per game
03:18in that first year with jayden daniels when daniels broke onto the scene as a rookie so i think we
03:24have
03:24a lot of things pointing in the right direction here harman for mclaurin to go from being drafted as a
03:29fringe low-end wide receiver two to potentially putting himself back in the conversation as a
03:35wide receiver one and i think that fits the mold aside from going to a completely new team which
03:40is what pickens did i think the situation is really setting up for him to have a better scenario a
03:45better environment and a much much better fantasy season and something that's going to resemble
03:49that 2024 campaign and not the terrible year we saw from him last year so a bunch of things to
03:55pull
03:55out of there again really smart good thoughtful analysis stuff i like the two sides of the same
04:00coin one is yep sets up great david blau moving around the formation understanding that he's their
04:07best option so he gets the looks it's not wondering where the hell terry mccorn was running cardio for
04:11three quarters and no targets in the first half against philadelphia or whatever the number was in
04:1524 and finally some slight adjustments but still nowhere near enough last year we all know the story
04:20how he was derailed the season was derailed everything sucked that's side one side two is
04:27yeah there's not much competition for targets there's no one else that should really be getting
04:30football that's kind of a a team limiting thing but again they're looking at it from a family's
04:35perspective we like that too but we're also talking about from a football perspective so
04:39your thoughts and takeaways there so there's two things off that because i don't like their options
04:44behind terry mcclaurin and you've said that as much as well like you've made it pretty clear that
04:49you think that they should have gone out and gotten a receiver so i think we're both in lock
04:53step there and i feel like when you look at the guys behind him to adam peters credit you could
04:59tell me hey this guy could have a career year this year i really like what he's got hey this
05:03guy could
05:03be really good this year but then you look at the guys behind him and their career high in yardage
05:08is like 444 yards for a season by trailing burks that's not good enough a wide receiver too in my
05:13opinion but maybe a bunch of guys have their best season regardless there is still a way to
05:18that you could build an offense similar to what seattle did last year where generally when you
05:24think of elite offenses or offenses that are going far in the playoffs you're gonna need at least a
05:30couple of guys that you're going to jackson smith and jigba and i'm not saying terry is jsn i'm not
05:36but they built their offense around him in the passing game he went for just under 1800 yards
05:42their number two receiver danny was cooper cup under 600 yards and then it was aj barner at 519 yards
05:50and then everybody else had under 300 yards receiving so it was basically jsn occasionally
05:57we'll throw to cooper cup occasionally we'll go to the tight end and then it's everybody else just
06:01enough so you don't sit on it and there is a way that if you're david blau assuming they don't
06:06go get
06:06a stefan diggs assuming they don't get a brandon iuke and he comes in and shows that he could be
06:10a wide
06:11receiver two again there is a way that they could build this where okay terry does get his 10 targets
06:17a game that we're a little skeptical that he's actually going to get the david blau mentioned
06:20maybe you do build it that way chicka conqua goes for 600 yards and a career high in a season
06:26and you
06:26get rashad white the ball out of the backfield a couple of times and then one or two receivers has
06:31three or four hundred yards and that's kind of your offense and that's how you make it work it's terry
06:35and jayden centric and then everybody else gets in where they fit in you could do something like
06:40that i don't know that i feel great about that because then what happens if 17 goes down for a
06:44game or two but there is a world in which that could be an effective offense because seattle won a
06:49super
06:49bowl doing it last year now again that's jsn terry's not quite on that level but he's still a really
06:54good
06:54receiver now i don't because it's that sounds funny to say i'm going i don't want the seattle model you
07:01mean the super bowl team just one yeah but i i go i'm trying to figure out the right way
07:07to say
07:07what i'm trying to say here if i have a jsn yep that's what we're doing it always sounds like
07:15a
07:15beaten up on terry mcclorn i don't though i've got terry mcclorn yeah i've got a guy that's good
07:20ain't nothing wrong with good that is a good football player glad he's here glad he'll you
07:25know he potential ring of honor player one day here in washington if he ends up staying here
07:29a couple more years he'll he'll be towards the top of a lot of lists in terms of receptions
07:32i like terry mcclorn a lot he's not jamar chase that's not an insult by the way a lot of
07:37people
07:37ain't jamar chase you know i'm a dude i ain't chris hemsworth you know what i mean like that's okay
07:41i bring something to the table not that much but he's good but i don't know he'd be the number
07:49one
07:49for 15 teams top of my head but he's he's our number one certainly the best we got then there's
07:55a
07:55thousand feet then we're hoping a couple third round there's a fourth round project here a third round
07:59project there maybe this is luke mccaffrey's year yada yada yada i don't know that i'm best served
08:06doing that right now if i had a guy that was so good say justin jefferson in minnesota that's how
08:14i'm building it kevin o'connell kind of did that right now they have more options there than we do
08:17here but you see the idea yeah the seattle model um go the you know when cooper cup was was
08:22the
08:22alpha and omega in uh for the rams he said all right he said every record and that's what he
08:27did they
08:27ran his career into the ground because they were like you're getting all the targets
08:29we're doing it for puka now right but we've got other options in in la so i'm digressing a little
08:34bit i don't know if that makes the offense the best right you think of the knicks talking a lot
08:42about the finals they've got a lot of guys that were number one options in their career
08:47mikhail bridges was the number one option or one a maybe a two you call it in brooklyn but cat
08:52certainly was that was he was the first guy on the call sheet when it came to to the timberwolves
08:55um
08:56og and nobody's never been but you a lot of guys you know josh hark could get buckets in
09:00this league yeah he has no interest he's not even looking at the basket he's there to rebound and
09:04make a couple passes and screen away guys are sacrificing what's best for this team
09:11right now is probably give terry mccorn a bunch of targets but i think that ceiling is lower than
09:15if you gave justin jefferson the same targets or jamar chase the same targets or jsn the same
09:19targets or puka naku in the same targets and you go down the list for a little while before you
09:23get to
09:23terry so i think a bounce back here if he's healthy is in store to some degree i just don't
09:30know how productive it's going to be if there's not not anybody else to take the attention off
09:34seattle it was just enough cooper cup just enough as you mentioned uh barner kenneth walker in the
09:40run game and even if it didn't work that defense is awesome yeah this defense will be okay we don't
09:48see awesome do we no and one thing that that offense did a good job of for seattle even though
09:52it
09:52wasn't always effective they always ran the football i mean you look at their attempts yeah
09:56it was 4.1 4.1 yards per carry it's not like they were overly effective but they ran it
10:01over 500 times
10:01they were going to run the ball so that way they could help out darnold and in turn help out
10:06jsn
10:07who was their only real receiving threat and so that's the tough part about this danny is i just
10:11don't think that your plan if you're adam peters and dan quinn and building this thing out i don't
10:15think your plan at receiver behind terry mclaurin can be three guys having career years i mean maybe one guy
10:21does maybe two guys do way to put it but i just don't think that that can be the plan
10:26and right
10:27now that's essentially how you're gonna have to make this work assuming terry doesn't go for like
10:311400 yards otherwise i just don't see a way that you're really helping out and again there are two
10:36things that can really help this out one jayden daniels and this is not a slight on jayden at all
10:40i just would like them to help him out too david blau could build the greatest offense of all time
10:46and maybe it just gets guys open i just think at some point similar to how we talk about the
10:51nationals with pitchers and stuff at some point you got to go out there and pitch to ronald acuna
10:54at some point you got to go out there and pitch to matt olsen at some point you got to
10:57beat a corner
10:58at some point you got to win one-on-one man-to-man and i'm not sure that there's a
11:02lot of guys that
11:02can do that on this team outside of terry and and now listen we do a lot of ben ben
11:06johnson
11:07schtick on this radio program ben johnson's a great offensive mind i i'm not saying he's not
11:12a lot of guys would be pretty good offensive minds with alan ross st brown sam laporta jamison
11:17williams taking the top off the best offensive line in the sport a really smart quarterback but
11:21i think is a praying mantis that can't make plays on his own but if you program the robot uh
11:25the
11:25golf bot 2000 to throw to the spot he'll do that add in jameer gibbs and david montgomery
11:31there's a pretty good chance that offense is going to be good you can drop whatever the hell you want
11:35jamison will make your right so will st brown so will laporta so will jameer gibbs etc
11:40so yeah he's really smart he did in chicago too where they've got weaponry
11:45but i guess my point is yes i think david block can be a genius and you can drop whatever
11:50you want
11:50but if you're drawing it up for luke mccaffrey it's not going to be as effective as if you're drawing
11:54it up for jsn or jamar chase and not everybody can be that guy i understand that but i do
12:00think you need
12:00to raise the tide a little bit and they haven't and i keep coming back that i know it's annoying
12:03to
12:04people because i'm a i'm a you know one note piano just going see see see that's where it ends
12:10up yeah
12:11but let's get to the mccorn conversation 800-636-1067 on a friday afternoon very simple question for you
12:18do you anticipate a huge bounce back like they're talking about fantasy guys on fantasy forecast justin
12:24boone and matt harman do you anticipate the major bounce back plus the david blau 10 target a game
12:31renaissance that adds with 170 targets by the way one would be one of the league leaders if that
12:35happens which by the way you do that over his career it's like a 1500 yard season yeah of what
12:40he's averaged he's never sniffed that amount as a true honest to goodness number one if you treat
12:44him that way that's what you're talking about are you buying the renaissance here bounce back here
12:49whatever we call it for tara mcclorn or was last year maybe a harbinger of the future was last year
12:54maybe i don't want to say beginning of the end but beginning of the decline that maybe the team
12:58foresaw which is why they weren't all that excited to pay him the value that he thought he was worth
13:04if you remember the contract negotiation last year that dominated the airwaves 800-636-1067 talking
13:11terry mcclorn
13:11mcclorn
