00:00She couldn't move, she struggled to breathe at times, and it was a hard sight to look at.
00:06Daisy has come such a long ways in such a short amount of time, and I'm so excited to share
00:10her story with the dodo.
00:12Oh, hi!
00:14I became a caretaker for elderly people, and I ended up with this little lady who lived with this little
00:21dog that they warned me ahead of time has a little bit of a weight issue.
00:25So I was expecting, you know, your average overweight dog.
00:30And then when I went in and met Miss Daisy for the first time, it was absolutely shocking.
00:36Overweight was an understatement, big time.
00:39Unfortunately, the owner, Daisy, has dementia, and her memory made it almost impossible to change the deep-set habits that
00:47had been at play for years with Miss Daisy.
00:50I finally sat down with her owner, and I explained. I told her I think the best move would be
00:55to kind of let her come stay with me and kind of rehabilitate her.
01:00Luckily, she was happy to allow that to happen.
01:04She was 55 pounds when she got home.
01:10She would scooch as much as she was able to.
01:13She would walk maybe five steps maximum before she would sit and pant and catch her breath.
01:20But she wagged her tail nonstop, every chance given, no exceptions.
01:27Attitude-wise, I think everyone has a lot to learn from Miss Daisy.
01:30She likes to roll over on her back for belly rubs.
01:34It was one of the few things that she was able to do to express much of herself.
01:39And it's still something she does to this day, and now she has the independence to flip herself back over.
01:45And it was also another way to track her progress.
01:48Her relationship with my dogs has been magical for her.
01:53She's got a specific buddy named Goldie, and those two are pretty much inseparable.
02:00I think that the mental stimulation of that alone was tremendous for her.
02:05The world was so small, and then it opened up to socialization.
02:09It opened up to activities.
02:12She's had guidance. She's had pals to go through the journey with.
02:21She has ran up the stairs.
02:24She goes up to my car when she knows that we're about to go and leave for a walk.
02:28What are you trying to do, Miss?
02:33She likes to run down the hallway.
02:35Hi, Daisy.
02:37Good girl.
02:40I haven't really changed her diet since she started with me,
02:43so I think that she'll continue to lose weight until her body just thinks that this is enough food to
02:49maintain this weight.
02:58That pretty girl.
03:00Yeah, she runs a lot.
03:02Everybody has something to learn from her because she showed how much attitude can get you through almost anything.
03:07I actually weighed her this morning, and she is 22 pounds.
03:12And the difference is just astounding.
03:14It never ceases to shock me.
03:25She did it.
03:26She did the work.
03:27I mean, I just set the standard of this is what you're going to eat, and this is how you're
03:31going to live,
03:31and she was like, alright, I can do that.
03:34I can do that.
03:35No problem.
03:40That's all.
03:44Amen.
03:45You
