00:00Tiki came from the ASPCA through what they call a community case.
00:04He was described as by far the most shut down dog that they had seen.
00:08When the dodo saw our foster journey, they asked me to share more of my experience.
00:12His owner was overwhelmed and had too many dogs.
00:16They didn't have a lot of confidence that he was going to
00:19be able to be rehabilitated into a dog that could eventually be a pet.
00:25Myself and Muddy Paws heard that and said, this could be a lost cause.
00:30He could be too far gone, but let's just give it a try.
00:33He did not leave his bed or even lift his head to look at me for probably four or five
00:41days.
00:43He was so much worse than I was anticipating.
00:51It is day six with our extremely fearful shut down foster dog.
00:55I'm going to give him the opportunity to explore the apartment.
00:58I took the gate surrounding his crate away.
01:00I left his crate door open.
01:01So far, he has not wanted to leave his crate.
01:12As soon as I stopped trying to force his progress was when he started to show progress.
01:20And it was very slow.
01:24It just started with him stepping one foot out of his crate and then he would sit out of his
01:30crate.
01:36He started doing this thing pretty early on, which was such a signal to me that he was capable of
01:43feeling joy. And that was his back wiggles.
01:46I feel like when we foster these dogs, a lot of people don't realize how the smallest milestone is
01:51such a big deal.
01:53You and I know how impactful these moments are.
01:56All of these things were so slow, but they were so monumental to me.
02:00It is day 11 with our extremely fearful shut down foster dog.
02:03And I just know this dog is so close to letting me pet him.
02:12I believe it was day 13 that he came up to me and really like requested that I pet him.
02:22I kept taking my hands away to give him the opportunity to walk away.
02:26And he just like kept like looking up at me and nuzzling.
02:34I can't.
02:38That was so sweet.
02:41Nice.
03:04He's stepping closer each time.
03:09What would you say was your we made it moment?
03:12When he climbed into my lap for the first time.
03:41It is day 30 with my extremely brave and
03:44inspiring foster dog.
03:45And I think it's pretty clear at this point that Tiki is extremely comfortable with me.
03:49I feel so honored that I get to be his safe person.
03:52I think Tiki's journey was so inspiring to people because I think so many people identified with Tiki.
04:03What I want people to remember of Tiki's journey is that we all have trauma and we all have things
04:09that we're
04:10dealing with.
04:11And some people might think that they're too far gone or too damaged,
04:16but you're never too damaged to heal and to feel joy and to get better.
04:22Watching him slowly more and more become the dog that he was supposed to be
04:26was one of the most joyful things that I've experienced.
04:31I'll fix that.
04:33In the future, we decided to talk deeply about you.
04:33I think it makes lohismo Satuya pediatrician.
04:37Cause that people didn't even role if it had to accrue a body and can feel joy and lifeulaski.
04:39Thank you so much.
04:40The language that she then created to work with famines.
