00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 18
05:01He said,
05:07The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer.
05:12My God is my rocky summit, where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
05:20I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was delivered from my enemies.
05:27The waves of death engulfed me, the currents of chaos overwhelmed me.
05:33The ropes of shale tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.
05:39In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried out to my God.
05:44From his heavenly temple he heard my voice, he listened to my cry for help.
05:51The earth heaved and shook, the roots of the mountains trembled, they heaved because he was angry.
06:00Smoke ascended from his nose, fire devoured, as it came from his mouth.
06:05He hurled down fiery coals.
06:09He made the sky sink as he descended, a thick cloud was under his feet.
06:16He mounted a winged angel and flew.
06:18He glided on the wings of the wind.
06:21He shrouded himself in darkness, in thick rain clouds.
06:26From the brightness in front of him came hail and fiery coals.
06:32The Lord thundered in the sky, the Most High shouted.
06:36He shot his arrows and scattered them, many lightning bolts, and routed them.
06:43The depths of the sea were exposed.
06:45The inner regions of the world were uncovered by your battle cry, Lord,
06:50by the powerful breath from your nose.
06:54He reached down from above and took hold of me.
06:57He pulled me from the surging water.
07:00He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hate me,
07:05for they were too strong for me.
07:08They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the Lord helped me.
07:14He brought me out into a wide open place.
07:17He delivered me because he was pleased with me.
07:21The Lord repaid me for my godly deeds.
07:24He rewarded my blameless behavior.
07:28For I have obeyed the Lord's commands.
07:31I have not rebelled against my God.
07:34For I am aware of all his regulations, and I do not reject his rules.
07:40I was innocent before him, and kept myself from sinning.
07:46The Lord rewarded me for my godly deeds.
07:49He took notice of my blameless behavior.
07:53You prove to be loyal to one who is faithful.
07:57You prove to be trustworthy to one who is innocent.
08:02You prove to be reliable to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive to one who is
08:09perverse.
08:11For you deliver oppressed people, but you bring down those who have a proud look.
08:18Indeed, you light my lamp, Lord.
08:21My God illuminates the darkness around me.
08:26Indeed, with your help, I can charge against an army.
08:29By my God's power, I can jump over a wall.
08:36The one true God acts in a faithful manner.
08:38The Lord's promise is reliable.
08:41He is a shield to all who take shelter in him.
08:47Indeed, who is God beside the Lord?
08:50Who is protector beside our God?
08:54The one true God gives me strength.
08:56He removes the obstacles in my way.
09:00He gives me the agility of a deer.
09:03He enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.
09:08He trains my hands for battle.
09:10My arms can bend even the strongest bow.
09:15You give me your protective shield.
09:18Your right hand supports me.
09:20Your willingness to help enables me to prevail.
09:24You widen my path.
09:26My feet do not slip.
09:28I chase my enemies and catch them.
09:31I do not turn back until I wipe them out.
09:35I beat them to death.
09:37They fall at my feet.
09:40You give me strength for battle.
09:42You make my foes kneel before me.
09:45You make my enemies retreat.
09:47I destroy those who hate me.
09:51They cry out, but there is no one to help them.
09:55They cry out to the Lord, but he does not answer them.
09:58I grind them as fine wind-blown dust.
10:04I beat them underfoot like clay in the streets.
10:08You rescue me from a hostile army.
10:11You make me a leader of nations, people over whom I had no authority, are now my subjects.
10:19When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me.
10:23Foreigners are powerless before me.
10:25Foreigners lose their courage.
10:27They shake with fear as they leave their strongholds.
10:31The Lord is alive.
10:33My protector is praiseworthy.
10:35The God who delivers me is exalted as king.
10:40The one true God completely vindicates me.
10:44He makes nations submit to me.
10:47He delivers me from my enemies.
10:50You snatch me away from those who attack me.
10:54You rescue me from violent men.
10:58So, I will give you thanks before the nations, O Lord.
11:02I will sing praises to you.
11:04He gives his king magnificent victories.
11:08He is faithful to his chosen ruler, to David and his descendants forever.
11:15Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
11:19as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
11:23world without end.
11:25Amen.
11:32The prophet Ezekiel, chapter 19.
11:37Moreover, take up lamentation for the princes of Israel and say,
11:42What is your mother, a lioness?
11:45She coached among lions, in the middle of the young lions.
11:48She nourished her cubs.
11:50She brought up one of her cubs, and he became a young lion.
11:53He learned to catch prey.
11:56He devoured men.
11:57The nations also heard of him.
12:00He was taken in their pit.
12:02They brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.
12:05Now, when she saw that she had waited and her hope was lost,
12:09she took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.
12:13He went up and down among the lions.
12:15He became a young lion.
12:17He learned to catch prey.
12:20Devoured men, he knew their palaces and laid waste their cities.
12:25The land was desolate with its fullness because of the noise of his roaring.
12:31Then the nations attacked him on every side from the provinces.
12:35They spread their net over him.
12:37He was taken in their pit.
12:40They put him in a cage with hooks and brought him to the king of Babylon.
12:45They brought him into the strongholds so that his voice would be no more heard on the bantons of Israel.
12:53Your mother was like a vine in your blood, planted by the waters.
12:56It was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
13:01It had strong branches for the scepters of those who ruled.
13:06Their stature was exalted among the thick boughs.
13:09They were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches,
13:13but it was plucked up in fury.
13:16It was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit.
13:22Its strong branches were broken off and withered.
13:25Fire consumed them.
13:27Now it is planted in the wilderness in a dry and thirsty land.
13:32Fire has gone out of its branches.
13:34It has devoured its fruit so that there is no strong branch to be a scepter to rule.
13:41This is a lamentation and shall be for a lamentation.
13:46This is the word of the Lord.
13:49Thanks be to God.
14:03This is the word of the Lord.
14:05My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:12because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:17For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:22because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
14:28From generation to generation, he is merciful to those who fear him.
14:35He has demonstrated power with his arm.
14:38He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
14:44He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position.
14:50He has filled the hungry with good things, and has sent the rich away empty.
14:57He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy, as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham, and to his
15:07descendants for ever.
15:10Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
15:17is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
15:21Amen.
15:29The Gospel according to Saint Mark, chapter 6.
15:34Our King Herod heard this,
15:36For the name of Jesus hath become known.
15:39Some said,
15:41John the baptiser has been raised from the dead,
15:43and because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.
15:48Others said,
15:49He is Elijah,
15:50and yet others said,
15:51He is a prophet,
15:53like one of the prophets from the past.
15:55But when Herod heard this, he said,
15:58John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.
16:01For Herod himself had sent men,
16:04arrested John,
16:05and burned him in prison,
16:06on account of Herodias,
16:08his brother Philip's wife,
16:10because Herod had married her.
16:13John had repeatedly told Herod,
16:15It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.
16:19So Herodias nursed a grudge against him,
16:22and wanted to kill him.
16:24But she could not,
16:26because Herod stood in awe of John,
16:28and protected him,
16:30since he knew that John was a righteous and holy man.
16:34When Herod heard him,
16:36he was thoroughly baffled,
16:38and yet he liked to listen to John.
16:42But a suitable day came,
16:44when Herod gave a banquet on his birthday,
16:47for his court officials,
16:48military commanders,
16:50and the leaders of Galilee.
16:52When his daughter Herodias came in and danced,
16:55she pleased Herod,
16:56and his dinner guests.
16:59The king said to the girl,
17:01Ask for me whatever you want,
17:02and I will give it to you.
17:04Whatever you ask,
17:05I will give you up to half by kingdom.
17:09So she went and asked her mother,
17:11What should I ask for?
17:13Her mother said,
17:15The head of John the baptizer.
17:19Immediately she hurried back to the king,
17:21and made her request.
17:22I want the head of John the baptist,
17:25on a platter,
17:26immediately.
17:28And although it grieved the king deeply,
17:30he did not want to reject her request,
17:33because of his oath to her,
17:35and his guests.
17:37And so the executioner,
17:39went at once,
17:40to bring John's head.
17:42And he went and beheaded John,
17:44in prison.
17:46He brought his head on a platter,
17:48and gave it to the girl,
17:49and the girl gave it to her mother.
17:52When John's disciples heard this,
17:54they came and took his body,
17:56and placed it in a tomb.
17:59This is the word of the Lord.
18:03Thanks be to God.
18:14Now, according to your word,
18:16Sovereign Lord,
18:18permit your servant to depart in peace.
18:21For my eyes have seen your salvation,
18:24that you have prepared,
18:26in the presence of all peoples,
18:29a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
18:31and for glory to your people Israel.
18:37Glory be to the Father,
18:38and to the Son,
18:39and to the Holy Spirit,
18:41as it was in the beginning,
18:43is now, and ever shall be,
18:45world without end.
18:47Amen.
18:52I believe in God,
18:54the Father Almighty,
18:56maker of heaven and earth,
18:58and in Jesus Christ,
18:59his only Son,
19:00our Lord,
19:01who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
19:05born of the Virgin Mary,
19:07suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
19:10was crucified,
19:12dead,
19:12and buried.
19:13He descended into hell.
19:15On the third day,
19:17he rose again from the dead.
19:19He ascended into heaven,
19:21and is sitting at the right hand of God,
19:24the Father Almighty.
19:26From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
19:31I believe in the Holy Spirit,
19:33the Holy Catholic Church,
19:35the communion of saints,
19:37the forgiveness of sins,
19:39the resurrection of the body,
19:41and the life everlasting.
19:44Amen.
19:50The Lord be with you,
19:52and with your spirit.
19:56Let us pray.
20:00Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:03Christ, have mercy upon us.
20:08Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:14Our Father,
20:16who is in heaven,
20:18holy is your name.
20:20May your kingdom come.
20:23May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
20:27Amen.
20:28Give us this day our daily bread.
20:30Forgive us our trespasses,
20:32as we forgive those who trespass against us.
20:37Lead us not into temptation,
20:39but deliver us from evil.
20:42For yours is the kingdom,
20:45the power and the glory,
20:47for ever and ever.
20:49For ever and ever.
20:49Amen.
20:55O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
20:57and grant us your salvation.
21:03protect and guide those in authority over us,
21:08and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
21:14Endue your ministers with righteousness,
21:17and make your chosen people joyful.
21:22O Lord, save your people,
21:26and bless your inheritance.
21:30Give peace in our time, O Lord,
21:34because there is none other who fights for us,
21:37but only you, O God.
21:41O God, make clean our hearts within us,
21:45and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
21:57Let us pray.
22:00Almighty and most merciful God,
22:02whose only gift comes that your faithful people
22:05give you true and laudable service,
22:08grant, we beseech you,
22:10that we may so faithfully serve you in this life,
22:13that we will not fail finally to attain your heavenly promises.
22:18Through the merits of Jesus Christ,
22:20our Lord.
22:21Amen.
22:31O God,
22:32from whom all holy desires,
22:36all good counsels,
22:37and all just works proceed,
22:39give to your servants that peace
22:42which the world cannot give,
22:44that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
22:49and also that, by you,
22:51we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
22:55may pass our time in rest and quietness.
22:59Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
23:02Amen.
23:08Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
23:11and by your great mercy defend us all
23:14from perils and dangers of this night.
23:18For the love of your only Son,
23:20our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
23:23Amen.
23:27Almighty God,
23:28who has given us grace at this time with one accord
23:31to make our common supplications to you,
23:35and promises that when two or three
23:37are gathered together in your name,
23:40you will grant their requests.
23:44Fulfill now, O Lord,
23:46the desires and petitions of your servants,
23:49as may be most beneficial for them,
23:53granting us in this world
23:54knowledge of your truth
23:56and in the world to come
23:58life everlasting.
24:01Amen.
24:04With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
24:06and the love of God
24:08and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
24:10be with us all
24:12evermore.
24:14Amen.
