00:22Let us pray, praise honour and glory be to you O Christ,
00:28who your faithless disciple Judas sold for a vile sum of money to the Jews who were
00:34persecuting you and conspiring against your life. Root out, I beg you, from my heart all
00:42evil love of any creature. Grant that I may never prefer anything to you. May I always
00:50show the most perfect charity towards all men, especially those who trouble me. Pardon
00:57me, my Holy Redeemer, for having so often prepared vain and perishable things to you,
01:04and for having, for the sake of vile pleasures, turned myself from you.
01:10Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ, who ate the Passover with your disciples at
01:15Jerusalem, according to the commandments of the law, giving them an example of humility
01:21and holy love, by kneeling down on the ground and washing their feet, wiping them with a
01:27linen cloth. I pray that this your example may penetrate my soul, destroying thoroughly any
01:35haughtiness and pride within me. Give me, O Lord, the deepest humility, that I may, without
01:41delay, perform the lowest ministry to all men. Give me perfect obedience, that I may, with
01:49complete diligence, observe as your commandments, whatever your appointed representatives may
01:56decide. Give me the most fervent charity, that I may sincerely love all mankind.
02:05Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ, who out of your unspeakable love gave us the
02:11sacrament of the Eucharist, and in it given yourself to us with wondrous liberality, so that
02:19you might remain with us even bodily unto the end of the world.
02:25Grant me, I beg you O Lord, an earnest longing, and in kindle in my innermost soul, an intense
02:33hunger for this adorable sacrament. Grant that when I go to the table of life I may receive
02:39you with chaste affection, complete humility, and perfect purity of heart.
02:45May my soul so thirst for you now, and so languish in your love, that I may one day be
02:52found suitable
02:53to enjoy the delights of your eternal kingdom, to the glory everlasting of your name.
03:00Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ, who when you were about to leave the world,
03:06commanded and comforted with words of unspeakable sweetness your disciples, and most earnestly
03:14commended them in prayer to your Father. Most plainly showing how tenderly you loved them
03:21and us who were to believe through their word. Grant that my heart may evermore relish your word,
03:29and that I may find your words sweeter than honey to my taste.
03:36O that the spirit of that burning exhortation may so glide into my heart, that I may be wholly
03:42transformed into your love. So direct all my ways, O Lord my God, that your holy will may be done
03:50in and by me for ever and ever.
03:54Praise and honour and glory be to you O Christ, who went out with your disciples across the Kedron
04:01Brook, and came into the garden, which you knew would be where you would be taken.
04:08May I entirely give up my will, and always follow and love yours. May I for your honour and for
04:15the
04:15salvation of my brothers and sisters, boldly endure any adversity, and be willing even to lay down my
04:22life, if your divine providence should so ordain it.
04:28Praise, honour and glory be to you O Christ, who as your passion drew nigh, began to be
04:34sorrowful and sad, with a heavy heart, and so that by transferring the weakness of all your members to
04:41yourself, you might be able to console and strengthen them, when they were in their time
04:47of fear at the approach of death. By this, your own weakness, which you have willingly taken upon you.
04:56Preserve me, I beg you, both from the immoderate sorrow and from foolish gladness.
05:03Grant that the grief which I have thus far endured may be for your glory and for the remission of
05:09my sins.
05:11Remove mercifully from me all distrust and unnecessary weakness, and confirm and establish my soul whole in you.
05:22Praise and honour and glory be to you O Christ, who fell prostrate on the ground and prayed to your
05:28Holy Father, humbly offering your whole self to him, saying, Your will be done.
05:35Give me grace in every necessity and trouble, to fly to you in prayer, and freely to resign and myself
05:43give myself up to your will.
05:47May I never unduly endeavour to escape from trouble, but receive all things from your hand with a quiet mind,
05:55and may I endure everything in meekness of spirit for your love. Amen.
06:05O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing your praise.
06:17O be joyful in the Lord, holy land,
06:24Turn the Lord with gladness,
06:27And come in light, breath and thrill your tongue.
06:33Be sure that the Lord be is gone.
06:40We can see us and pray us, and not we ourselves.
06:46We are his people and the theme of his pastor.

12:14these words and said to herself what may be the purpose of these words so the
12:20angel said to her have no fear Mary for you have God's approval see you will
12:27give birth to a son and his name will be Jesus he will become great and will be
12:32named son of the Most High the Lord God will give him the kingdom of David his
12:37father he will have rule over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom there
12:43will be no end Mary said to the angel how may this be I have no knowledge of a
12:51man the angel in answer said to her the Holy Spirit will come upon you at the
12:58power of the Most High will come to rest on you so that which will come to be to
13:03birth will be named holy son of God even now Elizabeth who is of your family is
13:11to be a mother even though she is old this is the sixth month with her who was
13:17without children for there is nothing which God is not able to do Mary said I
13:26am the servant of the Lord may it be to me as you say the angel went away
13:36Mary got up and went horridly into the hill country to a town of Judah and entered
13:41Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth when Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting the
13:47baby leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit she
13:52exclaimed with a loud voice blessed are you amongst women blessed is the child in
13:58your womb who am I that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me for the
14:04instant the sound of your greeting reached my ears the baby in my womb leapt for joy
14:10blessed is she who believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be
14:15fulfilled Mary said my soul exalts the Lord my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my
14:24Savior because he has put looked upon the humble state of his servant for from now
14:30on all generations walk on me blessed because he who is mighty has done great
14:35things for me holy is his name from generation to generation he is merciful to
14:42those who fear him he has demonstrated power with his arm he has scattered those
14:48whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts he has brought
14:53down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up those of lowly position he
14:59has filled the hungry with good things and has sent the rich away empty he has
15:04helped his servant Israel remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors to
15:11Abraham and to his descendants forever Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three
15:19months and then returned to her home this is the word of the Lord thanks be to God
15:32today we read of the visitation of Mary by the angel Gabriel and the
15:38announcement of her forthcoming pregnancy and the birth of Jesus the Son of God
15:45six months after Elizabeth's conception of John the Baptist this same archangel Gabriel is once
15:53again bringing news of the birth a continuation of the good news that was
15:58heralded when Elizabeth was visited Luke chose to be a little sparing in what he
16:09tells us of Mary no doubt so that the reader remained focused on Jesus but what we are
16:16told is highly significant first of all perhaps a little frightened Mary was
16:22troubled by the arrival of Gabriel and his initial message because she did not
16:28understand what she was hearing and so she was put at ease at least as far as was
16:34possible and told that she was about to conceive and give birth to the Messiah
16:42again Mary is confused for although she was betrothed to Joseph she was still a
16:48virgin clearly she was not entirely convinced and Gabriel continued by
16:54revealing to her that her cousin was already six months pregnant even though she
16:59was well past the apparent age of child Mary we learn two important facets of
17:08Mary first of all her purity she was a virgin and had purity about her that made
17:15her acceptable to God as the mother of his son we read elsewhere the somewhat
17:20unusual circumstances of her own birth and upbringing but the important details are
17:26these secondly we are shown her willing acceptance of God for in verse 38 she
17:34says I am the servant of the Lord may it be as you say this was despite the
17:43enormity of what she had been told and the problems that would be created for her
17:48not least in terms of her forthcoming marriage to Joseph as a result of this
17:55encounter Mary's life was changed turned up to side down completely permanently in
18:03ways that would have serious repercussions for her no doubt she had in her mind a
18:09comfortable life as the bride of a much older carpenter Joseph enjoying the
18:14support and love of his family now all this would be would be blown out of the
18:20window and replaced by dangers uncertainties sufferings and heartbreak which would
18:26continue until the end of her life what would be the reaction to this may it be as
18:34you say so after her encounter with the angel of God we read that Mary decided to go and visit
18:44her cousin Elizabeth not only but we read that she went as a matter of urgency
18:52probably to Hebron although the narrative is vague this was neither a short journey for the young woman nor an
18:59easy one but one which would have taken her at least a couple of days by donkey up into the
19:05hills
19:07why did she make this perilous journey there are several reasons potentially and although we're not actually told what they
19:14were we can assume she was inspired by the Holy Spirit to make it
19:20first of all it is a good and natural thing for expectant mothers to spend time together so that they
19:26can support and encourage each other in particular these two women very different in age shared one thing in common
19:34they were pregnant as a result of divine intervention in Mary's case by direct divine intervention
19:44they had much to talk about and rejoice over and Mary being so much younger would have appreciated the company
19:51of her older and more experienced relative
19:57furthermore Elizabeth lived in the town of priests we can recall that her husband had been performing his duties in
20:04the temple when he had received his visit from the angel
20:08so not only would Mary have had the comfort of the company of Elizabeth but also she would have been
20:14surrounded by a community of deeply religious people were better to spend her first three months as an expectant mother
20:25we learn little of what the two women were doing while they were together although we're told the wonderful words
20:31they spoke in adoration of the Lord and of what he had done for them the great blessing bestowed upon
20:37them words which we have come to know and love over our own late times
20:43I'm quite sure that Mary would have been looking after Elizabeth during the last days of her confinement helping her
20:52to prepare for her baby son
20:56we are not told whether Mary was present for the birth of John it is quite possible for having spent
21:05three months with her during the course of the final weeks of her confinement
21:13that Mary would have remained right until the very end and we know that Elizabeth would have been nine months
21:20pregnant at least by the time that Mary left
21:26of Mary's nature also we can learn something important at a time when she was perhaps starting to feel ill
21:33with the first onset of her own pregnancy she went on her own up into the mountains to visit her
21:39brother
21:40she went rejoicing praising God regardless of how she might have felt physically
21:47Elizabeth also no doubt tired with her more advanced pregnancy was quick to add her voice in praise
21:54how easy it can be for us to become fixated upon our problems our illnesses and to forget and give
22:02thanks and praise to the Lord our God
22:05let us try and model our lives on the wonderful example of these two amazing women
22:14the words of Mary in her prayer of thanksgiving often referred to as the Magnificat beg a difficult and most
22:22fundamental question
22:24if God so honored one of his most humble servants as in the case of Mary
22:30how should we react to him
22:35we are told that God has scattered the proud and destroyed the mighty he has said the rich away empty
22:41-handed
22:42on the other hand he has shown mercy to the humble lifted up those in the lowest of states and
22:47satisfied the hungry
22:49in short the proper state for us is to be humble and to shun the trappings of this world
22:57this does not mean that we should all go and become hermits living in caves up in the mountains
23:03but it does mean that we have to be modest in our ambition for ourselves not seeking preferment or wealth
23:11accepting what God chooses to bestow upon us
23:15if it is God's will that we achieve a particular thing
23:18then if we accept it there is nothing wrong
23:23but we should not seek it for ourselves
23:28consider Mary for a moment
23:30she came from a poor family in a simple village in the backwoods of Galilee
23:35nevertheless
23:36she was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus
23:39to be venerated in perpetuity
23:41and whose name can never be forgotten
23:46did she seek this for herself?
23:48indeed not
23:50but when she was told of the news by God's angel she said
23:54yes
23:55I am a servant of the law
23:58let this happen to me according to your word
24:03so let us be humble in our lives
24:05loving the Lord our God as we have been commanded to do
24:09always looking for reasons to give praise and thanks back to Him
24:13trusting in Him absolutely
24:15for He will always honour His faithful
24:19let us always be prepared to accept His desires for us
24:22remembering always the wonderful example of Mary
24:26in these well known verses
24:33let us pray
24:37Almighty and everlasting God
24:38who has given us your servants grace
24:42by the confession of a true faith
24:44to acknowledge the glory of the eternal trinity
24:47in the power of your divine majesty
24:50to worship the unity
24:53we beseech you
24:54that you keep us steadfast in this faith
24:57and evermore defend us from all adversities
25:01who lives and reigns
25:03one God world without end
25:05Amen
25:12May the Lord bless us and keep us from all evil
25:16bringing us to everlasting life
25:20Amen
25:20Amen
