00:00In sport, the stage is set for the regional Super 50, and one man could make history along the way.
00:10Senior batsman Jason Mohamed is closing in on Brian Lara's all-time record for the most centuries in regional 50-over cricket.
00:18But the veteran said he is not feeling pressure, just passion, as he prepares the lead from the front once again.
00:26Jason Mohamed is a Trinidad and Tobago batsman, but he would not be offended if you look at his bowling figures and refer to him as an all-rounder.
00:34What's your best bowling figures in regional cricket?
00:37I'm in 50, I'm in about 3 for 25.
00:40So if you get the opportunity, do you think you can better that?
00:43Yeah, yeah, I'll try my best too.
00:45He may be the surprise addition to the Red Force bowling attack, but Coach Riyad Emrit would largely be counting on him for his stability in the batting line-up.
00:53The main role for me is to try to bathe with the innings and try to help Trinidad and Tobago win the tournament.
00:59That's my main objective for this tournament.
01:02Mohamed indicated that he feels no pressure to perform for the team as a senior player.
01:06I don't think so. There's always pressure, whether I'm senior or not.
01:09Obviously, there will be a little added pressure on me, but for me, it's not going into the game pressure.
01:15I think that I have to score runs because I'm senior or I have to score runs because I'm older than the rest of the guys.
01:20So me, I just want to enjoy playing. So as I said, there's always pressure, but it's how well you cope with it, how well you handle it.
01:26And I look forward to these occasions.
01:29What about his desires for representing West Indies cricket?
01:32That's a pretty hard question to answer. I don't know.
01:35I don't think so because just concluded regional for the tournament.
01:39I was the best batsman with the most runs on fourth century and I wasn't selected for the test team.
01:44So I don't see how this is going to be much different, but you never know.
01:48I'm still hoping. That's all in my game once I'm playing for Trinidad to be able to play for the West Indies team.
01:53But that's beyond my control. I do what I can do, which is score runs and it's up to them.
02:00However, despite being sidelined from the West Indies team, he still has a few objectives to achieve for the national team in both four-day and 50 over cricket,
02:08notably becoming the highest run scorer.
02:11As a batsman, you know, when I started as a young kid, I was always someone quite particular on numbers.
02:20And that's the reason why I still play. I want to try and work out with all the numbers as a batsman for Trinidad to be able in terms of most runs on century and stuff like that.
02:29I already have the most runs in both format for Trinidad to be able to just try to add to that and just try to add to my legacy before I say goodbye to the game.
02:39What else is there for you to do?
02:41I'm two centuries away from joining Branlara for the most centuries in 50 of our tournament.
02:48So that will be one of my main goals.
02:50And yeah, just to see how much runs I can stack up this year to add on to what I already have in terms of most runs for Trinidad to be able.
02:58And in terms of four-day cricket, also I have the most centuries there.
03:02I'm 17, so whenever next year come around, if I'm still playing, I'm still fit enough.
03:07I'm going to be the first batsman from Trinidad to be able to get to 20 centuries.

03:35Thanks for choosing TV6 and do have a great evening.
04:05Good evening and welcome to the past seven days on 6.
04:15I am Renessa Cutting.
04:17Here's what made the news this past week.
04:19The government launched a billion-dollar revitalization plan.
04:23The Prime Minister announced a number of incentives for Tobago.
04:28And Carnival 2K26 was launched.
04:31As per usual, if it was happening, it was on 6.
04:35Let's get right into it.
04:37Prime Minister Kamala Pasa Basesa launched what her administration coined a revitalization plan for this country,
04:45comprising of major projects pitched to potential local and international investors.
04:51And the Works and Infrastructure Minister told the media she would be leading consultations in communities such as C-Lots.
05:05as Trinidad and Tobago, because as I've said, we've been sleeping for 30 years.
05:10So with the help of the good JLZ, we are introducing ourselves to the world.
05:17Works and Infrastructure Minister Jolene John as she began the feature presentation
05:21at the launch of the Trinidad and Tobago revitalization footprint, also called the TNT Global Hub.
05:26Prime Minister Kamala Pasa Basesa delivered the featured address.
05:30Our projects will not be white elephants or illusions of grandia.
05:39They will be grounded in purpose, built to produce real results.
05:44To ensure this, I am establishing oversight and governance committees,
05:51as mentioned by Minister Finance and the National Budget.
05:53The first committee will be chaired by the Office of the Prime Minister
05:57to oversee project and capital allocation,
06:01to examine our national priorities and rank them from a development perspective.
06:07The Prime Minister said the second team will be the Economic and Resilience Council
06:11and the Economic Development Board,
06:14which will guide diversification, shape policy,
06:17and monitor the key levers of the local economy.
06:19A budget or first budget, a roadmap, which shouts the way forward for next fiscal year.
06:26And the question that recurs is where will we find the money?
06:31Where will we find the money?
06:32I told you then and I tell you now, we will find that money.
06:36And that is why we are rolling out these projects together,
06:39to advise you, so you and your various organizations that you can help us
06:45find money that will bring money for investment,
06:49but will give you money to return back to your own country,
06:52back to your own organizations.
06:54So we welcome you here today.
06:55The presentations by the Prime Minister and the Infrastructure Minister
06:59were sales pitch to the private sector leaders who attended the event
07:03and the potential international investors
07:05who are watching the live stream locally and abroad.
07:08Minister John outlined some of the key projects to be implemented
07:11in the revitalization blueprint.
07:13We are talking about decentralization with respect to our governmental activities,
07:19moving government from being so concentrated in Port of Spain,
07:23but in the east, in the west, not in the west, in the east,
07:27in central and a little bit in south, all of that.
07:32So the overall benefits, we are going to be upgrading our utilities,
07:37and this is exactly to scale, ladies and gentlemen, right?
07:41We are looking at the port city in the east.
07:43This is the invader's bay, so we are moving east.
07:4725,000-person capacity convention center.
07:51And there are also plans for East Port of Spain under the new UNCLAC government.
07:55See lots.
07:56We have not left out anybody.
07:58We are talking about, again, the industrial park there for free trade zone
08:02because it has a proximity to the port.
08:04People can come off, do their manufacturing, etc., the value added,
08:10and just take it back to the port for shipping out,
08:14and that will save on you the cost.
08:17TV6 News data sought some clarification from Minister John when she spoke with the media.
08:22This one in terms of communities, Minister.
08:24So, for example, consultation with communities.
08:27So, for example, East Port of Spain, C-Lots.
08:30You will never...
08:31I worked at HCC for a number of years.
08:33I was chairman of UNICAD for a number of years.
08:35I never sent people out to do consultation.
08:38I went myself.
08:39So all of these projects, as we are about to impact communities,
08:43you go out respectfully with the consultation.
08:46I'll be there leading those consultations.
08:48The Wilson infrastructure minister said the potential investors who attended the event
08:52were given a QR code with which they could immediately submit their plans
08:56to be part of the TNT revitalization plan.
08:59Jewel Brown, TV6 News.
09:02The long-awaited export license for the Studley Park quarry
09:05was presented to Chief Secretary Fali Augustine last week
09:09by Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa,
09:12one of several goodies announced for the people of Tobago.
09:16This is an export license for Studley Park quarry.
09:23This license will give Studley Park Enterprises Limited
09:28an opportunity to further market your products regionally
09:33and provide opportunities to generate much-needed foreign exchange.
09:38So, with your leave, Madam President and Officer,
09:40can I present this to Fali before I continue my speech?
09:43This license was requested by the THA since 2022
10:06under the previous PNM administration.
10:09Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa told the Assembly Chamber
10:13it was time for the Assembly to make some money.
10:17But money first.
10:18So I am so happy if you can make some more money
10:20for the people of Tobago and for Trinan
10:23in foreign exchange as you use this export license
10:25to export, this export license to export.
10:28What is yours?
10:29The aggregate out of Studley Park.
10:31If you were doing that all these times,
10:33you might have been richer than some other places
10:36which will remain unnamed.
10:40Chief Secretary Fali Agustin, in his expression of thanks,
10:44said it was a happy day for the people of Tobago.
10:47I did open the envelope, Madam Prime Minister,
10:50because I wanted to make sure it was not a dummy check
10:54or a blank envelope contained therein.
10:59And I'm happy that I can display and show a copy of the export license
11:06for the Studley Park Quarry, Studley Park Enterprise Limited.
11:11Application made since 2022.
11:15And one will think, as we say in Tobago,
11:19that if you have a brother in the mango tree, you will eat.
11:22But sometimes you have to just depend on a stranger
11:26to give the kind gesture that your own will not give to you.
11:32On behalf of the people of Tobago, thank you very much.
11:35Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
11:39The Prime Minister also announced a host of other goodies for Tobago
11:43as it pertains to health care, public utilities, security and even housing,
11:48where $20 million is set to be given towards the restarting
11:51of the Rysland Housing Project in collaboration with the IDB.
11:56But let me remind you, we anchor holes.
12:00We anchor holes, health care close to home.
12:04I mentioned, I commissioned the Scarborough Hospital.
12:07Right now, Scarborough Hospital remains the island's center of care.
12:13I'm advised by my Minister of Health that the cardiac cath lab
12:16is being recommissioned.
12:18And that's a very important cath lab to have on the island.
12:22The government of India has promised us some sea ambulances.
12:26I'm still awaiting them.
12:28But I know you'll be very happy that your loved ones here fall ill,
12:32that we will have the sea ambulance right away to take them across
12:36and bring them back.
12:37So I look forward to that happening.
12:39Passat Bisasa said the long-standing localized Tobago police force
12:43is on the horizon.
12:45Public safety and security.
12:48TT5.5 million is being invested in Tobago's safety network.
12:51To start with, a new mounted and canine branch
12:56is being built at Chirvan Hall.
12:58And the anti-crime unit at Old Grange is being upgraded.
13:03The Mount St. George Police Youth Club, I'm told, is being refurbished.
13:07Defense and Coast Guard facilities and the Crown Point Fire Station
13:11are being modernized.
13:13Meanwhile, meanwhile, my government supports the idea of there being
13:17a localized police force in Tobago.
13:20In Tobago.
13:25In the same way that all municipal corporations in Trinidad
13:30benefit from such arrangements.
13:33I'm advised by the Commissioner of Police
13:35and the Chief Secretary discussed this matter with the Commissioner
13:39when he was recently on the island.
13:40We will work with you to give you your own police unit here.
13:46She referred to a story carried by TV6 News on Monday night
13:49where one resident complained about his water supply.
13:54Power, water and infrastructure.
13:58We came in last night.
14:00And on the news last night, I'm told,
14:02some persons in Tobago were being interviewed by media, of course,
14:07asking, what would you like most?
14:10You know what many said?
14:13Do you have any idea?
14:15It was water.
14:17Of course, there weren't many other things.
14:19But one of the prior years was water.
14:22Water.
14:22Water is life.
14:24Water is life.
14:26My own consistency as a parallel.
14:28I am advised by Wasson, the Minister of Public Utility,
14:33is the worst constituency when it comes to water distribution.
14:37Maybe they were punishing me and my constituents,
14:41but it's the worst in the entire country to be with an Trinidad.
14:46I hope that he plans to do something about that.
14:48A desalination plant for the people of Charlottesville
14:51was also announced in addition to a review of the Cove power plant.
14:56Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
14:59We had a quick break.
15:01We'll have more news when we return.
15:09Thanks for staying with us.
15:11Operations at 24 privately owned aggregate companies across the country
15:15were brought to a halt last week
15:17as members of the T&T Aggregate Producers Alliance
15:21demanded a meeting with the government
15:23to address long-standing regulatory issues.
15:27Around 30 members of the TTAPA
15:30gathered outside the National Quarries Limited
15:32in Sangri Grandi this morning.
15:34They say that 25 years after the Minerals Act was passed,
15:38no organization has been issued a license
15:40to process sand and gravel.
15:42And as a result,
15:43the companies that mine aggregate
15:44are operating illegally,
15:47including, they allege,
15:48the National Quarries Limited.
15:49And with the TTPS taking a harder stance
15:53on the issue of illegal mining,
15:55with 18 persons,
15:56including businessman Danny Guerra
15:58and his son being arrested
16:00at an illegal quarry site
16:01in Manuel, Congo, in Kwanapo last month,
16:04the group says they felt as though
16:06they had no other choice
16:08but to halt operations,
16:10even though it may have a serious impact
16:12on the construction industry.
16:14But also,
16:16what we would like to do
16:17is help the police
16:19and by extension the nation
16:21resolve the illegal
16:23aspect of the business.
16:27If you do not have a processing license,
16:30you are illegal.
16:32We don't want to be illegal.
16:35He says workers were afraid
16:36of being targeted by the police.
16:39We don't want to have to worry about the police
16:41when we wake up 4 o'clock in the morning
16:42to pay 30 to the site.
16:44We don't want to have to worry about
16:46where you're getting finances from
16:47because the bank's going to pull back.
16:50We don't want to have to worry about
16:52you can face a possible charge
16:53of proceeds of crime,
16:55money laundering.
16:56We don't want to have to worry
16:57about these things
16:58and we shouldn't
16:59because there's an avenue
17:02and a process
17:03that's supposed to facilitate these things.
17:05However, this avenue, he says,
17:08has hit a dead end
17:09over the last 25 years
17:10and multiple state agencies
17:12including WASA,
17:14the EMA,
17:15the Town and Country Division
17:17and the Ministry of Energy
17:19must coordinate
17:20to fix a licensing system
17:22he describes as broken.
17:24He warns that the economic fallout
17:26of this shutdown
17:27may be serious
17:29without intervention.
17:31Everybody who's involved
17:33from construction,
17:34from foundation to finish,
17:35because if you can't start
17:37the foundation,
17:38you certainly can't do the finish.
17:41So we are talking about
17:42in our immediate space
17:45between 15,000 to 20,000 people
17:47immediately
17:48and we envision
17:50when we consider
17:51the block manufacturers,
17:53the ready-mix producers,
17:55the construction industry
17:56as an extension
17:58anywhere between 85,000 to 100,000 people.
18:01The longer this goes on,
18:06it's going to affect us.
18:07He says the TTAPA members
18:10will maintain the shutdown
18:11until government officials
18:13agree to meet with them
18:15and to resolve
18:16the long-standing issues.
18:18As long as it takes
18:19to get a meeting
18:21to rectify it
18:21because the can has been kicked
18:2225 years now
18:24down the road.
18:25Everybody kicking it down the road.
18:26It has to stop today.
18:27It has to stop now.
18:29Alexander Bruiswall,
18:30TV6 News.
18:32Energy Minister Dr. Rudal Monilal said
18:34he intends to meet
18:36with the TNT Aggregate
18:37Producers Alliance
18:38even as the ministry noted
18:40that it was unaware
18:42of the organization.
18:44Energy Minister Rudal Monilal
18:46says he intends to meet
18:48with the Trinidad
18:49and Tobago Aggregate
18:50Producers Alliance
18:51following a briefing
18:53with ministry officials
18:54scheduled for early next week.
18:56However, in a release,
18:58the ministry contradicts
18:59claims made by the group,
19:00namely that no company
19:02or individual
19:03has been able
19:04to successfully secure
19:05a processing license
19:06for minerals
19:07in this country.
19:08The ministry is labeling
19:09the claims as false
19:11and says that
19:12over the past few years,
19:14it has granted
19:15numerous process mineral licenses
19:17to various companies.
19:19The ministry explains
19:20that between 2014 to present,
19:23it has been actively
19:24collaborating with operators
19:25and applicants
19:26within the mining sector
19:28to facilitate
19:29the renewal of licenses,
19:31process new license applications,
19:33and to address any concerns
19:35regarding licensing procedures.
19:38The ministry adds
19:39that it has hosted
19:40several full-day open-house sessions,
19:42allowing operators
19:43and applicants
19:44the opportunity
19:45to engage with key ministries
19:47and agencies,
19:48from which approvals
19:49and documents are required.
19:51with the last two sessions
19:53being held
19:54on Wednesday,
19:5429th October
19:55and Thursday,
19:5730th October.
19:59The ministry says
20:00it is currently conducting
20:01due diligence
20:02to determine
20:03the bona fide members
20:04of the organization
20:05calling itself
20:06the TNT Aggregate
20:07Producers Alliance,
20:09as it is not yet aware
20:11of the establishment
20:11or familiar
20:13with the work
20:13of this organization.
20:15While switching gears,
20:17two separate oil leaks
20:18in South Trinidad
20:19led to the relocation
20:21of one family
20:22in Fisabad
20:22and further disruption
20:24to fishing
20:25for Fullerton Fisherfolk.
20:27In both incidents,
20:28Heritage Petroleum Company
20:29limited dispatched
20:30cleanup teams
20:31whose response
20:32and efforts
20:33were praised
20:34by those affected
20:34at both locations.
20:37Seedruff's fishermen
20:38have been hit
20:39a double blow,
20:41first being told
20:41by Coast Guard officers
20:43to fish
20:43no more than
20:44two miles
20:45from shore
20:45and now
20:46some are unable
20:48to fish at all
20:49following oil presence
20:50at sea.
20:52Fishermen from
20:53Fullerton Village
20:54Seedruff
20:54tell TV6
20:55they first notice
20:57oil slicks
20:58on Wednesday morning.
20:59About three days
21:00we went to go
21:02in the sea
21:02and thing
21:02and all the oil
21:03and rope
21:04and oil and thing.
21:07So we had really
21:08walked them
21:09two, three days
21:09because the oil
21:10really affected
21:11for them
21:11two, three days
21:12now so we just
21:13be sure.
21:13So we had a
21:15meeting
21:15to fix it
21:19and things.
21:19Most have
21:20anchored their
21:21pierogues
21:22and hope
21:22some amount
21:23of compensation
21:24will come soon
21:25as the pre-existing
21:26U.S.-Venezuela
21:28tension
21:28already made
21:29work difficult.
21:30We really can't
21:31go further
21:32how to work
21:33through this
21:34thing with
21:34escalating
21:36there with
21:36Venezuela
21:36and the U.S.
21:38So we're
21:39working on the
21:39shore right now
21:40but this oil
21:41we really can't
21:42work on all
21:43to end.
21:44So we're just
21:44waiting to see
21:45what's going on
21:45and then Christmas
21:46right around the
21:46corner
21:47we have to live
21:48too.
21:49Right now
21:50I tell you
21:51it's poverty
21:51which is why
21:52you can solve
21:53biscuits
21:53and sausage.
21:53On Friday
21:55Heritage Petroleum
21:56personnel could
21:57be seen
21:58working on
21:59Fullerton Beach.
22:00Minister of Energy
22:01and Energy
22:02Industries
22:02Dr. Rudal Munilal
22:04says Heritage
22:05responded to
22:06reports of
22:07goblets of
22:08what appears
22:08to be hydrocarbons
22:10on the
22:10Fullerton shoreline.
22:12However he says
22:13no loss of
22:14containment
22:15or leaks
22:16has occurred
22:17in the Heritage
22:17offshore operations
22:19over the past
22:20week.
22:21He confirmed
22:22that cleanup
22:22is ongoing.
22:23saying members
22:24of the community
22:25were hired
22:26as part
22:27of cleanup
22:27operations.
22:29Meanwhile
22:29over in

22:31village
22:31Faizabad
22:32a family
22:33of six
22:33was temporarily
22:34relocated
22:35by Heritage
22:36following an
22:37oil leak
22:38in their
22:38front yard.
22:4055-year-old
22:41carpenter
22:41Vinish Mahadev

22:44the oil

22:47He says
22:48they've lived

22:51and it's the
22:52first time
22:52they experienced
