00:01Welcome to lesson number 3 in our English grammar series.
00:04In today's lesson, we are going to learn about the present perfect tense.
00:09This is one of the most commonly used tenses in everyday English.
00:13We use the present perfect tense to talk about actions that happened at an unspecified time before now.
00:20By the end of this lesson, you will understand the structure, the signal words, and you will practice plenty of
00:25examples.
00:26So let us get started.
00:27Let us first look at the structure of the present perfect tense.
00:31The formula is simple.
00:33Subject plus have or has plus the past participle form of the verb, which is also called V3, plus the
00:40object.
00:40For example,
00:43I have drunk coffee.
00:44Here, I is the subject, have is the helping verb, drunk is the past participle of drink, and coffee is
00:50the object.
00:51Another example,
00:53He has drunk coffee.
00:54Notice that with he, she, and it, we use has instead of have.
00:59Remember this rule.
01:00Use have with I, you, we, and they.
01:04Use has with he, she, and it.
01:06Keep this structure in mind as we go through the example.
01:09Now let us learn about the signal words.
01:11These are special words that give you a clue that the present perfect tense should be used.
01:16The first signal word is, just.
01:19For example,
01:20I have just sent an email.
01:21The second is already.
01:23For example,
01:24She has already gone to the office.
01:26The third is recently.
01:28For example,
01:29He has written a book recently.
01:31Next,
01:32We have several times.
01:33For example,
01:34I have eaten here several times.
01:36Then,
01:37Lately.
01:37For example,
01:38I have given money to him lately.
01:41Next is never.
01:42For example,
01:43I have never seen him before.
01:45For,
01:46As in duration.
01:47For example,
01:48I have lived here for ten years.
01:50Since as in starting point.
01:52For example,
01:53I have known him since 2010.
01:55Yet,
01:55Which is used in negative sentences and questions.
01:58For example,
01:58I have not sent the email yet.
02:00And finally,
02:02Ever,
02:02Which is used in questions.
02:03For example,
02:04Have you ever seen him?
02:06Whenever you see these words in a sentence,
02:08It is a strong hint that you need the present perfect tense.
02:12Now let us move to our first section.
