00:00All right, Clint, I want to play this for you because I found it interesting
00:06because C.J. Stroud spoke a lot today, and he had some things, I think,
00:13two major things, and we'll talk about them here, Clint,
00:16that I think potentially cleared up some things that we wondered about.
00:20And I think the first one is the offense.
00:23The feel was, is this a deal of like, hey, they need him to conform to what it is.
00:31They need him to buy into the system, and he's got to be able to run this system
00:34the way they want to.
00:36I believe you said run the system, and then at the moments where they're going to need
00:40you to be Superman, go be Superman, and then come back and run the system.
00:45Here was C.J. Stroud on his thoughts of this Kaley offense going into the start of OTA.
00:54I mean, I watched a lot of our self-scout, you know, just try to fix some things,
00:59try to introduce some things that I'm used to that I've done in my past that I like to do
01:03so we can do that a little more.
01:05But, you know, I think we're both growing, you know, creating a better relationship
01:10and, you know, growing as an offense.
01:13We're trying to make it the offense for the 26, you know, 2026, 2027 Texans, you know,
01:19and trying to do things that everybody, you know, is good at, you know,
01:24and doing things that, you know, we've done in the past.
01:25So, you know, we're growing in that area.
01:27All right.
01:28What's your takeaway when you hear that, Clint?
01:30Love it.
01:31Bow your neck.
01:32Be professional.
01:34Absolutely love what CJ's saying right there.
01:37I mean, when you go down the list of, you know, ACJ, this offseason, Nick Kaley's offense,
01:44year two in that offense, what are you working on this offseason?
01:47Well, I went back and watched the film from last year to correct my mistakes.
01:51And then other than that, we're going to do some things that I'm comfortable doing,
01:54some things that I like doing, some things that I've done well in the past.
01:57And then on top of that, we're going to do things that our players do well.
02:01There was no, well, I'm going to, I'm going to, I got to really commit to this offense
02:05or I've got to embrace this offense or I've got to take ownership in this offense or,
02:10or, you know, there was, there was zero weakness.
02:14There was zero doubt.
02:17I loved what the quarterback had to say for the entirety of his time, his meeting with the,
02:21with the media today.
02:22And, and, but that is one part that really stood out to me was, you know,
02:27how is he going to handle this Nick Kaley offense in the thought that everybody
02:31with any kind of power in the organization, it seems has said, you know,
02:35we just need him to either take ownership or to buy in or, or to have more command
02:43or yada, yada, yada, where it's, it's CJ conforming to the offense.
02:47When in reality, to hear the quarterback talk, which I'm glad this is what it is,
02:50by the way, it seems like the quarterback's like, nah, look, man,
02:54I went back and watched some mistakes,
02:55but we're going to do some things different that I've done well in the past.
02:59We're going to incorporate some of those things.
03:01And he said, what, 2027 Texans.
03:03Yeah.
03:042026, 2027 Texans.
03:05Yeah.
03:05Last year he was talking about watching Tom Brady films.
03:09Yeah.
03:09In 04 or whatever, 02 or whatever it was.
03:11Yeah.
03:11No, I, I just, I liked the, the tone.
03:14I liked everything about his, and I thought he, in a very professional manner,
03:20I thought he, I thought he bowed his neck a little bit and, and, and showed that he
03:26wasn't going to just bend the knee to the organization and, and, and, and, you know,
03:32buy into, not buy into, not the right word, but, but lean into, this is all about me
03:38buying in or not buying into the offense kind of deal.
03:41But, but, but I, but it also doesn't feel like he's bowing his neck and he's going rogue.
03:46Like, it feels like there, it feels like there's been communication and maybe a compromise
03:51on things.
03:52Well, to me, that's what makes it so beautiful is because you, like, you got choices, right?
03:56I mean, you, you can go in there in this situation, you can feel like you're being wronged and you
04:00didn't get the contract that you deserve and you can be an a-hole about it, right?
04:05And you can put off those kinds of vibes and you can put off the, it's about me, not the
04:09team.
04:10It's about my money and why, and I feel like I did this or did, you know, you, you could,
04:14the way in which he communicated his points and the way in which he bowed his neck in
04:21his, in a sense of, I'm not just going to come in here and repeat the company line to
04:25you guys, right?
04:27I'm, I'm, I'm going to, in a professional manner, say what I need to say, and then we're
04:31going to keep this thing moving.
04:32And I think he did it throughout again and, but I do think there's two times and it really
04:36stood out and you just played one of them when it, when he's talking about the offense
04:40in particular, right?
04:43All of the guys, I hadn't heard one other person.
04:47We've heard everybody with the Houston Texans talk at least once.
04:50I've not heard the general manager say, you know, we got to incorporate some things that
04:54CJ does really well.
04:56And Haley got to find a happy medium there to where they, they're complimenting each other
05:00instead of playing.
05:01And so we, we, we, that's, that, that's a very football one-on-one thing to communicate.
05:05We ain't heard that one time we've heard buy-in we've heard show up buy-in we've heard today.
05:10We heard from D'Amico, he's shown up and he's take ownership.
05:13Not one time.
05:14If we heard somebody say, you know, we got it, we, we got to work on doing things that
05:18are, are skilled guys are really, really, really good at.
05:22We've heard we're not building around one person.
05:24Yeah, we, we've not, we, we've not, CJ Stroud is saying what all Texans fans should want
05:32to hear from everybody.
05:33That's good offensive philosophy.
05:35That's good offensive identity.
05:37That's good.
05:38That's good practices offensively.
05:40If you want to have a winning offense, I don't care if you're going to run it or throw it.
05:43I don't care about that.
05:43But what he's saying is exactly what the messaging should be, right?
05:48Is, is we, we're going to, we're going to put our quarterback in position to win and
05:52to win with his strengths.
05:54We're going, we're going, we're going, we're going, we're just going to wrap our arms around
05:58CJ Stroud and we're going to make sure he's good and comfortable and does, we're going
06:01to do the thing.
06:02We're asking him to do the things that he's really, really, really comfortable in doing
06:05first and foremost.
06:06Right.
06:07Um, you know, that, that, what he just said is exactly what I want to hear coming out of my
06:12organization, period.
06:14We shouldn't be here and always want a quarterback to buy year four, man.
06:17It's year four.
06:18If your general manager is talking about your quarterback buying in your, but you're behind.
06:22Yeah.
06:23Right.
06:23I mean, if, if your head coach, which he did today, if he's talking about ownership and
06:27taking ownership, like, man, this is year four for CJ, this ain't his rookie year.
06:32I mean, you know, those are, those are things that I really don't like hearing about my
06:37offense and about my quarterback.
06:38What CJ Stroud just said is exactly what we ought to be.
06:41We ought to be dialed into.
06:42And maybe the bigger kind of, I don't even want to say story, but the bigger thing that
06:49jumped out from what CJ had to say when he was, when he was asked the question about
06:53the contract and, um, and him not getting an extension, this was his response, which
06:59I thought said a lot.
07:01Yeah.
07:02I mean, I let my, my agent handle it, you know, and you know, if it's time to do it,
07:05then it is.
07:06If it's not my, my job is football.
07:08So that's what I focus on is just getting better.
07:10Um, and I think I've held my bargain up on that edge.
07:13So, you know, um, you know, um, you know, whatever happens, happens, you know, I'm excited
07:16to be a Texan this year and, you know, go from there.
07:19All right.
07:19I'm excited to be a Texan this year.
07:21I held what I believe he's meaning.
07:24I held my end of the bargain up when it comes to that.
07:27And I let my agent handle that.
07:29And if it happens, it happens.
07:31If it doesn't, it doesn't.
07:32If that's where we need to go, we need to go.
07:35But clearly to me, I, I was under the impression that maybe they were all on the, on the same
07:40page about the contract stuff and maybe they are, but clearly this is not a situation where
07:46it's not him thinking he doesn't deserve a contract.
07:49He, he, he feels like he deserves a contract and he has done what he has needed to do to
07:54do a contract.
07:55And he said, but I'll be good here.
07:57Yeah.
07:58Well, look, I don't, I don't think this is the same page conversation.
08:01I don't think it was a two-way conversation.
08:03I think the Texans said, look, we ain't re-upping you this year and, and, and we want to see
08:06one more year and whether you like it or not, you're under contract and you got to play.
08:10Ultimately, that's, that's the position he's in.
08:12The beauty about this, this piece of audio right here is that to me, there's, there's
08:18some, again, professional, mature, bow your back, bow your neck.
08:22There's, it's just, it's beautifully done.
08:24Get your message across.
08:26You feel like you've held up your end of the bargain.
08:29My agent will get it done when the timing's right.
08:31I'm going to be the quarterback for one more year for, for this season.
08:35For this year.
08:35Yeah.
08:35Like taking that, that play that, you know, that, that out of, out of Nick Casario's
08:40playbook, I thought was, was, was genius.
08:43Um, but there's, there's just a, there's just an awareness there with him too.
08:49Like I understand the situation I'm in.
08:51I'm not going to hold out.
08:52I'm going to come and I'm going to play ball, but I'm, I'm definitely going to, going to
08:56voice my opinion in a professional manner.
08:58I'm definitely going to, you know, voice my opinion on things when I'm asked about it.
09:02I thought it was well done.
09:03I thought it was professional.
09:04I thought it was conducive to winning, to being a leader, to being a good quarterback.
09:08Um, I love the way he handled it.
